Unlike his brothers who had regular jobs, wives, kids.... a place to call their own, all Samson had was his bike, the road and the club. It was enough, but sometimes, when he needed to escape all the crazy, he came here.

He knew she'd never be his old lady. That wasn't a life for her. She loved to ride with him and was under no illusion about the club and his role in it, but she was too much of a free spirit to tie herself down that way. And even if she was willing to give up her solitude, what would the club make of this weird, vegetarian, hippie chick who spent her days growing vegetables or painting, and in the evening would rather curl up with a book than party?

I live in Devon. I'd like to say that I write by the sea, but this is Britain and its usually much too chilly. Plus, I prefer to be nearer to my kettle and the tea bags. I don't have any pets, only a son to keep fed and watered. I spend too much time in my imaginary worlds to keep a goldfish alive.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy long walks along the beach or across the moors, and I have been known to ride on the back of a motorcycle on occasion.
I'm pretty new to this whole writing thing, and still feel a little too embarrassed to call myself a writer. Luckily my muse doesn't care what I call myself and insists I write every day.
I don't write romance, but I do write love stories. I don't obey the rules, because I don't know what they are, and I don't guarantee a happy ending – just an ending.

A MUST READ!!! A MUST READ!!! AMAZING MC BOOK!!!!

 photo 194f4e5e-d0a2-4332-af86-921a85b98a57_zpsdgimiofq.jpg

If I loved the first book of this series A Family Man, I can only say that I adored even more this second installment. The writing style got even better, the characters completely blew me away and this time around the steam factor also went up, big time. Needless to say I will be a Sarah Osborne fan for life, she just knows how to tickle my MC fancy. VIVA The Freaks MC!!!!!

Samson is the president of the Freaks MC nomads, so you know he's not the kind to put roots down anywhere. He loves all his brothers and even more the lifestyle he keeps of always riding and being in a different place all the time. In one of his trips he meets Emma a free spirited, vegan, artist, who for the past five years has been okay with him stopping sporadically by her house for just a good time and then he's gone. This arrangement has been working for both because neither of them wants to give up their freedoms.

As the life of one of his closest brothers is changing and moving into a more domestic path, Samson starts to realize that perhaps is time to just claim his girl and start a life with her, because of all the women he's been with and there's been a lot, Emma is ultimately the one he loves. Can Emma and Samson make it as a couple in the life of the club, can these two wild souls settle down and allow love to take charge of the reins in their lives?

I don't have the kind of special way with words my Buddy Read partners do so I'll just make it short and sweet:

I devoured this book! I really enjoyed A Family Man but I absolutely LOVED Sanctuary because besides Samson and Emma we got to see a shit load (pardon my French!) of Tiny and Beth as well and I just adored the relationship between the two couples! Do NOT read this series out of order. Major spoilers in this one for A Family Man and I mean MAJOR SPOILERS!

Books like 'Sanctuary' and 'A Family Man' are MY kind of books because they make me feel. All kind of things... Both books in this series had stuff happen that broke my heart ('A Family Man' especially) but at the end of the day, when reading a book, I'd rather feel than not. I said it before and I'll say it again - I love reading MC Romance because of the simplicity of the MC culture. I love that the stuff they care about is stuff worth caring about - loyalty, friendship, brotherhood, honor, family... I love that these flawed individuals who do 'bad' things by breaking the law and taking justice into their own hands are most often hard on themselves because they don't see themselves worthy of the women who choose to love them. I love that when they love, they love hard. It's like a no frills kind of relationships - all you get is raw feels. These guys are up front and honest and sometimes it takes their women by surprise, which makes for some great, laugh out loud moments.

There were many but these are some of my favorite quotes:

"... homecoming fucks ... When it felt she would die if he didn't stop and would die if he did."

"Maybe they should just ride forever. Just the two of them chasing the sun for the rest of their days."

"You are a Freak, Tiny. Freaks love hard and they love forever."

I recommend this book to those who love MC books with substance.

Cheers!

P.S. I think Spike needs his own book ... IMMEDIATELY!

5+++ "Wanna take a ride?" Stars

After meeting Samson in A Family Man there was not doubt I needed to know more about him. Thankfully, Sarah Osborne wrote Sanctuary to provide us his incredible story. I loved book one of this series. I LOVED, LOVED book two. This author really honed in on her writing and method of structuring a story. Sanctuary brings all the feels and builds upon the feelings she created in us with the first book beautifully.

Peeling back the many layers of this man as he navigates through his relationship with one very special woman this book, yet again, gives MC romance lovers a different kind of story-telling and structure giving the genre further substance in the reality of the relationships these people are in.

At the very beginning, we see Samson and Emma together while they remember how they came to be. From the first page they are together. It isn't a story of how they met and fell in love, Sanctuary is the story of two distinctly different people meshing together perfectly and how they navigate the circumstances of their lives to facilitate their relationship.

This book will put you through the emotional ringer. There's angst of them understanding what it takes to be together. Darkness falls onto this couple in a traumatic way. But through all of it, through the whole book there's this peace we get from knowing what they mean to each other and how they interact with each other. There were so many times I laughed out loud, so many times I was grinning along with Samson at Emma's sarcasm and vice versa. The camaraderie, the respect the characters have for each other and for those closest to them represent what should be most important to all us mere mortals.

Through Emma and Samson we learn of loyalty, honesty, brotherhood, love, forgiveness, and fear. Complex concepts for most that only FCP MC romance authors truly make simple. Sarah Osborne is no exception as her writing exquisitely showcases a beautiful love story. Told in 3rd person, we feel the pain and sorry, the joy and peace through these characters implicitly. Tiny and Emma develop a friendship, even deeper than that, an unbreakable bond that will leave you breathless. Tiny once again proves why he's the family man while Samson learns what it takes to become one. After witnessing his relationship with Beth in A Family Man the satisfaction to see the momentous shift in him with Emma can hardly be explained.

Samson and Emma are two incredibly strong characters. Ones who you will want to emulate. They bring the best out in each other. Emma especially brings the best out of Samson. She has the ability to bewitch with her serene attitude and giving nature, Samson's "little witch". And Tiny too, in a way Tiny thought he'd never have again. The strength of them all, of their brotherhood, of their family remains intact and impenetrable as they grow. The new secondary characters we meet add much to the story as well. Felix, Emma's friend. And Spike (crossing my fingers Spike gets a story) with his total bad assery yet tender and comedic relief.

The substance of this book is in the journey. Layers and layers of depth provide so much to the reader. There's no explicit sex, not even explicit violence. It's a fade-to-black kind of way of projecting the events but it is so effective. You feel it ALL as the reader in a major way. In a way that gives you real, honest feelings and reactions.

Excellent writing. Excellent story telling. Excellent characters, main and secondary. The pain just as exquisite as the peace. Sarah Osborne gave me a reading sanctuary for a few days as I was absorbed in this story. Reading it as if I were living in her world.

The Freaks MC series cannot be missed for MC romance lovers. I highly recommend A Family Man first and then no doubt urge you to read Sanctuary immediately following.

Authors of The Freak Circle Press have set the bar incredibly high in this genre.

I think I preferred book one of this series. Although I did enjoy this one, it took me a long time to warm up to the heroine and I just felt like Samson deserved better...
She was so snooty and judgmental, which didn't suit the laid-back hippie personality we were being told she was supposed to be.

That leads me to another point. I really didn't feel the love between Samson and Emma. We were told how they met five years ago (which was nothing special at all) and then that they had been sleeping together ever since. But they don't really know each other at all. Also, neither of them ever seemed to want more... we were told how they felt. Told they wanted to be together. But the most important thing was, we weren't shown. Not really.
Even once they finally decided to be together properly and Emma gave up her life to move and be with Samson, I still just wasn't feeling it.

Samson was a much better character. He's still so honest, loving and caring. I adored him.

It was so great to see Beth and Tiny/Joe again. I am just relieved that things are still going well for them, even if Joe is definitely still an overbearing prick. Haha

I really hated how things have gone for Barney too. I liked his character in the previous book so much, seeing him turn into someone else was awful :(

So overall, I did enjoy reading this book. But there were definitely a lot of holes...

Thanks to Jen for the Buddy Read. It's always great reading with you :D

11/15/2014 -- A solid 3.5 Stars

This book resonated with me. What do you want in a relationship? As I got older, if I were asked this question, I could respond with one word; PEACE. I get what this author was trying to do with the title and this story. For the most part, I think she accomplished her mission.

A few things that stood out for me in this one:
1 -- I really enjoyed the characters. We have a bad ass nomad biker who doesn't belong any specific where; Deacon Samson. Doesn't want to. Doesn't put down roots. Has no need to. Until ... until he meets Emma. Emma is this hippie chick who is all laughter and sunshine. She does something to the soul of this man. For five [5] years he seeks her out when he has that yearning for a safe place. She is his sanctuary. Likewise, she depends on him. She never meant to. She was quite alright doing everything all on her own, but how she loved it when he'd stop by on his way to somewhere else. Watching this relationship evolve is the meat of this story. It really isn't any more complicated than that. I really enjoyed it.

2 -- The back story for me is a plus and a minus. A plus because it was pretty simple. This author doesn't give you tons of unnecessary details. She weaves a tale that is pretty simple in its' complexity. Sounds strange, but I can't describe it any better. The simple is nice, but then sometimes you needed a bit more explanation or detail and you don't get it. This is the minus. It was the same for me when reading the first book in this series -- but more negative. This go round the plus outweighs the minus here.

3 -- We get a bit of the MC life. Just enough to keep us interested but not all the grit that puts some off. I'd call this MC light, but in a good way. We also get Beth and Tiny. We see a different side of them than we do in Family Man. Liked them then, but really like them now. I thought Tiny [Joe] was in his own head too much in book #1. We don't see that here. Loved seeing their children in play here too.

4 -- Love the title. I think it very appropriate. Plus, because I read #1 and liked it well enough, I was willing to spend the $3 for this one. I think it is a good price point -- plus, if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership, it can be yours for $0!

I have a few negative points to make:
1 -- If you're looking for bunches of excitement, this won't work for you. If you like a bit of a slow, meandering tale, this will suit you just fine. I enjoyed it. I loved the characters and thought the story played out well enough, but it wasn't chock full of crazy excitement.

2 -- There were editing issues. More as you got closer to the end. Saying this, I think this was a downfall of #1 and this one was much, much better. Still noticeable, but better.

3 -- The time lapses in the book don't always make sense. It moves fast and slow and you have to pay attention to figure out how much time has elapsed. When you do, it may not make sense. It isn't obvious which is probably why it didn't bug me more. Also, it moves very fast towards the end. Like a horse smelling the barn and speeding up to end his day. This book felt a bit like that. Slow and meandering in the beginning and towards the middle and then faster and faster and ...

Overall, a nice book. Great for a cold Saturday. Book, dog, warm blanket and my coffee. Perfect.

Happy Reading!

Sarah Osborne is a friend and fellow writer in the Freak Circle Press.

I really love the way Sarah writes. Her characters, whether they’re MC enforcers or hippie-chick artists, old ladies or their kids, friends or foes, all feel like real people, individuals with their own minds and ways of seeing and speaking. I feel like I’m really in the moment with them, always. They infuriate me and make me want to comfort them. They make me cry, and they make me laugh. She writes characters who have real problems without magic solutions. And I love them all.

I loved Joe and Beth’s story in A Family Man, and Samson really emerged there as a man I wanted to know more about. And Sanctuary is absolutely everything I could have hoped. Deke (I think the distinction between the “Deke” he is at home with Emma and the “Samson” he is as a Freak is frakkin’ brilliant) is such an amazing man. He’s not perfect, and sometimes I wanted to scream NO, BUTTHEAD, DON’T GO TAKE A RIDE RIGHT NOW, but those flaws make me love him more when he sees his mistakes and works to right them.

And Emma! She knows who she is, and even though she doesn’t fit the MC life, she fights to find a way to make a life with her MC man. I love the way she sees the world. I love her style, I love her sass and savvy, and I love her animals. The dog(s), the goat, the “girls.”

Just love love love this story.

A lot more gentle than the first book in the series but not without some tough situations. One in particular might be an issue for some .

Nice to hear from favourite characters from A Family Man and they blend in easily to Deke and Emma's story. Good, meaningful friendships are relayed reinforcing the importance of the simple things in life.

Even better than the 1st book. I just loved Deke "Samson" and his "little witch" Emma. This couple goes through a heck of a lot but they come out the other side so much stronger.

Can't wait for more.

Like A Family Man, Sanctuary takes you on a journey between two people - Deke (aka Samson) and Emma - as they both try to navigate their way through a relationship where Samson's position with The Freaks MC must always come first.

The book opens up with them already together, having met years ago in a diner, where, over time, Emma and her home (complete with an ol' dog, whimsical décor and hens pecking around in the backyard)becomes Samson's refuge - his 'sanctuary'. Samson is a big hunk of a man with a surprising soft side (remember what I said about the dog). Emma is anything but a biker chick with her bo-ho style, artistic talent and vegetable garden. Life on the road is hard, and what Samson does for his club is even harder which causes him to question a more permanent life with Emma rather than a place to crash and ease his weary head body every few months.

His life isn't easy, but they share a love and a connection to where they both have to make choices around the lifestyle he has committed to. It's about sacrifice on Emma's part and fear on Samson's. She loves him enough to give up her home to be closer to him while he fears he'll never be able to be the man she truly deserves. Both are stubborn, yet completely honest with stating how they feel and aren't afraid to lay it into each other. Their life isn't easy - and at one point it's devastating. It puts the relationship which had began in a diner and led to this very moment to the test. Their story is proof that unconditional love will hold you together and get you through anything

Adorei!
Recomendo!

I loved it. It's not your typical MC read. This author just doesn't tell you how 2 people fall in love, but instead how 2 people stay in love and fight everything that is thrown out to them. It makes it more realistic from my point of view.

The story starts a couple of years after Joe "Tiny" and Beth have there first child. This is Samson story with Emma...... how they fall in love, how they fight and try everything in their hands to stay in love and live a life where both of them can co-exist and live happily ever after.

5 Beautiful stars

A beautiful story of Deke/Samson who never want to settle down till he met his beautiful hippie girl Emma. Love it.

“Jesus. Why do you think? Because I fucking love you, you stupid bitch.”

“Yes, it is. My house is as good as sold. What if I'm making a terrible mistake? I've only been here for three days and already we're fighting. I'm giving up my whole fucking life for you, and I feel like I'm never going to measure up as an old lady. Have you any idea just how much I fucking love you? I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want us to choose a puppy together. I want to have your babies… I want… Why are you grinning? This isn't funny.”
“No it isn't.” He pulled her into his arms. “It's absolutely terrifying.”

“Does this mean you're going to keep going all caveman on my ass?”
Picking her up, he crossed the room and dumped her unceremoniously on the bed. “You better believe it, baby.”

“And I suppose you'll beat your chest afterwards, then drag me home by my hair.” She lay back down and trailed her fingers down his chest.
“Are you making fun of me, girl?”
“Hard not to.” She snuggled closer. “Caveman”

“Deke scowled at her. “You spoil that fucking animal. You need to show him who's the boss.”
“Sure, baby.” She grinned and closed the gate. “There's only room for one alpha, right?”
“Damned straight. That flea-bitten piece of shit needs to learn his place.”
“I know, baby.” She held out the bag. “You wanna piece of candy?”
“One of these days, woman...” Emma loved how his eyes danced when he smiled. “Stop grinning. I'm a big bad motherfucker.”
“Yep.” She wrapped her arms around his waist. “And you're all mine.”

“Deke lay on his back and wrapped his arms around his wife.
He grinned. His wife. This smart, beautiful woman had actually agreed to marry him. He’d always believed that it took a special kind of woman to love a nomad, but it took an exceptional one to make that nomad give up the road. “So. No regrets, Mrs. Samson?”

Emma smiled, and, turning her head slightly, kissed his chest. How could she regret marrying him? He had given up so much to be with her. Whenever she thought about it, it felt like her heart would burst.
No, she would never regret marrying this funny, kind, gentle, giant of a man. “Mmmm, let me think. Nope, Mr. Samson. No regrets at all.”

“Mother and daughter were fast asleep when he got back to their room. Ignoring the first rule of parenting - let sleeping babies lie - he picked up his daughter and, sitting down on the chair next to the bed, held her against his chest. “Hey, little bit. We’ve been waiting a long time for you. Ain’t sure I‘ll be the best dad in the world, but I'll try real hard to be. That woman over there, she’s amazing, strong and smart. An’ I swear, you will never get a better mom. You’ve got more aunts and uncles than you could ever need, and every last one of them will lay down their life for you.” He kissed her downy curls. “Welcome to the family, Charlotte. You're in for one hell of a ride.”

Sanctuary (Freaks MC #2)
By: Sarah Osborne
5/5 stars

I fell in love with Samson during book 1, A Family Man, for just being himself. He helped Joe so many times and the way that he helped and comforted Beth and how he was just there for her and was so understanding had my heart going out to the man. So I was very happy that his book was the next one! I loved the big man even more in this book. This book takes place a few years after the end of book 1.

Samson has been the President of the Nomad charter of the Freaks MC for the better part of 20 years. He’s never felt the need to settle down, put down roots or ever stay with a woman. He loves the road, his brothers, his bike and usually his job within the club. But there is one woman who he returns to that is unlike all the other women that he’s ever been with, and he likes that about her. But one of the main things, I think, that he enjoys about her, is that when he is with her, he is just Deke and he can leave the club behind him and just be with her. He has seen what the MC life does to the Old Ladies and he doesn’t want his girl to ever have to deal with it or become hardened to life.

Emma is a new-age hippie, vegetarian artist who gardens & raises chickens. She met Samson at the diner she was working at and for 5 years, they have had a non-relationship relationship. He came to her home when he wanted or needed and she accepted him as he was. They didn’t share telephone numbers, much less any deep background information. But she knows that she fell in love with him years ago, and that she just can’t bear to turn him away, even though she wants a husband and kids someday, and doesn’t know if there is a future for her and Samson. She doesn’t think that she would make a good old lady, but she knows that she wants Samson and to be by his side and to be his “more” in life.

But being part of an outlaw motorcycle club will have blowback, and sometimes that lands on your doorstep, happens to you or happens to someone you love and all you can do is work through it and be there for each other.

In this book, Joe is there for Emma in the way that Samson was there for Beth in book 1. We do see quite a bit of Joe & Beth in this book, along with their kids and several of the other Freaks members. I’m hoping that Spike gets a book and I’m thinking he will since this book ended much the same way as book 1 ended.

Sarah Osborne is a friend and fellow writer of the Freak Circle Press.

I don't know how she does it, I really don't. There is such an understated grace to how Sarah Osborne creates a character. It's mostly dialogue, she lets conversations form these characters into believable "people." They are funny, charming, quirky, neurotic, maddening and gloriously endearing. It's not fancy and fussy, just so genuine you don't question anything.

Then she side-swipes us with gritty and unflinching MC culture, while also giving us a biker that cries when a dog he "doesn't even like" gets put to sleep.

We get more Beth and Tiny in this installment as well, and Samson and Emma will share a place in your heart right along with them. I don't even really know how to review this work, other than to say I loved it and to encourage everyone to read "A Family Man" and this one as well. There is something special being built here, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Osborne has in store for us next.

I'm giving this a 4* although by the end I was tempted to downgrade it just a little. It was certainly different from the more standard MC romance novel. Although it did have moments of high drama it read less like a romance and more like a story of a relationship progressing with various highs and lows over the years. At first, I was quite taken by it, and felt a real rapport with both the H and h. I liked them, their problems felt true, their struggles and emotions and responses what I would imagine would happen in real life.
Unfortunately, by 2/3's of the book, it was getting too real. I wanted sizzling romance, hot sex, drama. Yes, you say there was drama. I guess, it simply didn't feel very dramatic to me. It didn't feel very sexy. It definitely had its moments, and it held me in its thrall for a good long while.

A fantastic second book in what I hope will continue with a third.....fourth......? LOL.....
After reading the first book I knew I had to read this second offering and I'm so glad to have been on board.

We got plenty of Beth and Tiny (Joe) - from book one, as well, and what a love story they have. The continuing saga of their paring and the family they create is terrific!

I loved Emma and Samsun (Deke). GREAT paring and their love story is both unique and 'special'. These are 'real' people with 'real' issues. Ms. Osborne has a way with writing character emotion. It's quite descriptive - yet subtle.
MC life is very violent at times and the way Sarah Osborne writes it is gives detail without being overly done. We know what happens without having to know about each drop of blood!

Definitely; a must read. Recommended highly. Thank you.

THIS was phenomenal! I am so excited for this series!! I read the first book (A Family Man) this weekend, this book yesterday and have already started the third! I am devouring them and hoping that I don't regret reading them so fast once it is all over. Savoring it is not in my vocabulary, when it is this good, I can't stop!! In this installment we got to delve into the life of Samson and Emma. Samson is the nomad President. Total tough, big, scary bad a$$ m'fer=) He was all that but could still sit at a table with James and Felix and fit in, gah I love his macho self!!! I love this family of Freaks!

Another fantastic read! I am so happy the author gave us a book for Samson 'cause I really liked him in A Family Man. I loved the parallels in relationships between Samson & Beth & Tiny & Emma. I loved how the story unfolded, I enjoyed the pacing. I had a smile on my face a lot of the time reading - I loved the humor. I loved the characters. I loved how they interacted with each other. I loved how Samson & Emma were together. They could tell each other to fuck off but could be okay again easily (which is refreshing) with just a hug. I just really enjoyed this book. I love these big badass bikers with the biggest hearts. :)

4 stars. I feel like I've been on an emotional roller-coaster a little too long.

I loved Emma. She was such a strong and caring woman. Her love for Deke was unconditional. Deke was swoonworthy but when his bossy/stubborn alpha side showed up at the worst possible times I wanted to kick him in the shin. My annoyance never lasted very long. Just him saying "Wanna take a ride" melted my heart.

While enjoying this book and seeing Emma and Deke's relationship slowly unfold into a true love story, I must admit I wavered when a specific incident occurred and it really made finishing this book rather difficult. In the big picture of their story this issue didn't overwhelm everything but it stuck with me and I honestly struggled to finish.

I loved having Beth and Tiny play a big part in this book. Tiny's relationship with Emma was wonderful. It made me remember why I loved his book so much.

If you enjoyed Tiny and Beth's book you will really enjoy Emma and Deke's story too.

Super-fast moving timeline. The author has a unique writing style that makes the story seem more realistic. I feel she does a great job of really putting the reader on the journey with the characters. Spicy, but not overdone. Good characters that are imperfect, yet show growth in character. The main couple actually seem perfect for each other, and I enjoyed their relationship. Their conversations and confrontations were on the mature side--they did not talk and act like kids, but worked things out like adults. I also really enjoyed the interaction if the secondary characters--especially the h and Tiny. Second book in a series. I did read and enjoy the first one too (I did not find this one quite as emotional), however, I think the reader could get by with reading this as a stand alone.

Not a bad read but there are a lot of issues in this book, some stem from the relationship between Deke and Emma and the other comes from being connected with a MC. A lot of the ugly things that happen in this book happen off screen but you still end up reading about the after math (some of it's pretty horrible). I get the relationship that Deke and Emma had though it seemed to me that Deke was more uncertain about everything than Emma was. I haven't felt up to reading the first book yet (to me it sounds like a drama ride, though I may get to it at some point), but I did enjoy the interactions that Deke and Emma shared with Joe and Beth. 3 stars.

It took me a while to finish this one...but I'm glad I'm finished.. I liked each and every one of the characters, especially the glimpses we got to see of Beth and Tiny and their growing family..
I loved Emma; she wasn't your every day type of heorine.. she was a hippie, didn't need to rely on anyone, and was just so dang on lovable..
Deke, he was macho, alpha, sometimes a dog, but when he loved, he loved hard!

I really like the Freaks MC books, it changes from the other MC book, it's more about the characters and their relationships then the MC. Don't get me wrong, we still have drama and terrible scenes that usually happen with that sort of books. But it's more about people living the life and how they deal with it.
The author have a way with her characters that always pull me in.
Hope will have a third soon, and can't wait to read more from this author.

This novel takes us into the world of Samson and Emma. Wow! That all I can say another wonderful view into this special world. I love that the characters have weaknesses and struggles In their lives. We begin to care about the characters because they are so like us. There is no magic answer that solves everything. I look forward to next in the series.

Book started off great and was really well written, but then it just started to drag! It was too long and could easily be cut in half. Soon I lost interest and in the end I just skimmed half the book.

Enjoyable MC book. A lot of time seems to pass between events which is both nice and not. On one hand it makes it feel more realistic, because real relationships take time. On the other, it made me feel like I was missing out on something.
