Science says love is the solution to her problems, but will she find the right formula? Clinical scientist Laila has no time to date. Cooped up in a hospital lab all day, she's busy working towards her five-year plan. But when her carefully structured world starts to crumble, her friends stage an intervention – a love intervention.
Their remind Laila there’s more to life than work and reconnect her with the three men who stole her heart while she was studying in the States ten years ago – Austin, Edoardo, and Mateo. From California to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, Laila reunites with her past and reignites passions she thought were long dormant.
But who will be the one to rewrite her five-year plan? And was it just her love life which needed an intervention?
This was a welcome surprise 😊 all the usual tropes you’d expect from a romance novel, but with added family and friendship arc that I didn’t wholly anticipate.
The Love Intervention is pretty much as it sounds, Layla has a lot of weight to carry, she’s struggling in a job she’s supposed to love, caring for her mum and buckling a bit under the pressure. Her two best friends stage the intervention, science says love is the answer, and Layla is a scientist after all. They plan a trip where she has to rekindle three old flames and see what comes of it, this was a lot of fun, and for me there was a definite front runner amongst the candidates.
Layla discovers a lot about not only herself, but family secrets, secrets within her friendship group and realises there are some old wounds that need to be healed for her to truly be happy.
I loved that this wasn’t overkill on the romance, the characters were fun, they made me laugh, at times they really irritated me but it all rolled up to an ending that was perfect.
The audio narration by Daphne Kouma 🎧
An easy 4 🌟 Huge thanks to Bolinda Audio via NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC 🎧
I was immediately drawn into the main character’s journey, especially as she explored the idea of falling in love. She’s a hard-working woman with a tough past but a successful career, which made her feel both relatable and strong. The unique twist of reconnecting with three exes kept the story engaging, and I loved seeing her personal growth throughout the experience.
The portrayal of female friendship was truly heartwarming. It felt authentic and added a wonderful layer of warmth to the story. These friendships really balanced out the more challenging parts of the character's life in a beautiful way.
I really enjoyed the pacing, which kept everything moving smoothly, and the characters were so engaging. The story was an enriching journey that left me feeling satisfied and connected to the characters. It was a wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.
Breaks my heart to do this but I have made the decision to DNF this at 40%.
This is such a cool concept and cool idea but I just am so bored. The pacing is so slow, too slow for my liking, with barely any character development or progression through the story.
There are three MMCs and having only met 1 at this point in the story, I am just struggling to see where it could go and how the story could end.
I may come back to this in the future, and I definitely think there are readers out there that will love this book and will give it 5 stars - I just don’t feel a connection with the story and am too bored to reasonably continue.
Thank you Canelo & netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I did not like this book. I thought that there was too much going on which took away from the objective! This book either needed to be longer or have less problems/guys! I loved the premise of this book so much and I am so disappointed that it wasn't for me :(
This was…okay. It was just a little on the boring side for me. The premise of the book is really want drew me in; it sounded so different and interesting to me but when I finally finished it I just felt like I lost time. I really wanted to like Laila, she just felt….weird to me. Like she was trying to hard and sometimes she came off unlikable. I am seriously having no luck with British love stories😭 I’m starting to think they are not for me😂
*Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo, and the author Caroline Khoury for the ARC!”
When I picked up The Love Intervention, I was genuinely excited. The cover was cute🥰, and the summery on the back had me hooked at the very fist sentance🪝. It had all the potential to be a real banger of a book. And while it turned out to be a decent, easy read… it ultimately didn’t live up to what it could have been😔.
The story follows Leila, a total workaholic🔬, who is forced to take a break from her job. Her well-meaning friends stage a “love intervention,” encouraging her to reconnect with a few men from her past in the hope that she’ll rediscover herself, and maybe even find love❤️. But the twist? Her friends have no idea about the real history she had with these men… and the reasons those relationships never worked out in the first place🧐.
Usually, I adore books that play with dual timelines, past and present, but in this case, neither storyline really gripped me😕. Both felt quite surface-level. A lot was happening plot-wise, but somehow nothing actualley went deep. There weren’t many surprises or dramatic moments to pull me in, and as a result, I didn’t feel that urge to keep picking the book back up every time I took a break⏯️.
It’s by no means a bad book, it’s a perfectly fine read for a lazy weekend or beach day🏞️. But sadly, it left me a little underwhelmed. That’s why I’m giving it a solid but unenthusiastic 3 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Not a love triangle, but a love SQUARE in this one! Laila is a clinical scientist, and she has been working hard to secure a promotion at work, putting in the hours, as well as looking after her mother, who suffered a fall and is incapacitated. Things take a downturn at work at the same time as her two closest friends decide to stage a Love Intervention for their friend, knowing that relationships are very low on her priority list. Laila finds herself on a trip to the US and beyond, under the guise of work, to meet three men from her past, to see if they might just be her one, but things are never that simple, are they? I did enjoy the story, though not sure that planning to meet and possibly hook up with three different men, knowing there may be emotions attached, was the best play, however I know which of the three was my favourite from the off, and Laila definitely has fun as she meets each one, with a bit of sizzle and spice (And sometimes a lot!) included. There are different factors in Laila's past, including her estranged father and her mother, who won't talk openly about many things, given her background, that also come up during the trip, just to add some more seasoning to an already spicy story! An easy, fun read. Many thanks to Canelo Books for an ARC.
Amazing and fast-paced romance fiction. Really enjoyed the main and side characters. It was very nice to see the present but also get behind the scenes with appropriate flashbacks to the past of the character. I think the plot was brilliant and well thoughts out - really enjoyed how it was all resolved and the way it was written. The writing was very smooth and didn't drag with any unnecessary details.
The plot encourages the reader to realise that not everything in life has to be according to a plan, but some freedom and spontaneous adventure is what is needed from time to time - and perhaps life leads us to it.
Really enjoyed the idea of the plot and it kept be guessing as to which character does Laila's heart belong to. Furthermore, I loved the touch of 'family life unresolved problems' that were added to the plot - making it not all about romance but something deeper too.
I really enjoyed this! It had all the tropes, but then added lots of depth and thoughtful reflection on topics such as grief, guilt, family and friendship. I also liked that there was a look at STEM careers.
I didn't always agree with the main character, nor always understand her thought processes. But I did like seeing her growth throughout the book, and was fully invested in her story. Some bits were really very emotional. Lots in here to make me laugh too.
There are three very different men in this book, and it was good to have the different tropes for each! I very much had a favourite haha
Overall a fun read, with lots of depth (no I don't mean with the spice, but actually...).
Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book.
Well, it's safe to say I adored this book 🥰 4.5🌟 Had all the feel-good cosy warm feels. Maybe it won't be one I will be able to recall per say but it definitely made an impact. Beautifully written and well narrated, all the characters just felt like you knew them easy to relate to, likeable and so realistic in a rom-com type of way!
Laila is a clinical cardiologist who is currently working hard, caring for her sick mother, and simply doesn't have time for or make much time for herself. She seems to be missing something in life and this is clearly noticed by her 2 best friends Jenna & Samira who have walked through much of her life with her, they can see she is missing part of herself she is simply working too hard and isn't getting enough of those feel good happy vibes in her life so how can they possibly do anything to help her when she is so independent and stuck in her ways... Well approach this in a way that Laila would just maybe accept like a business model with a presentation of course full of explanations of molecules and examples of the missing chemicals she needs to function as a happier human being!!!
CHNO Chemical for dopamine this is the missing link they decide before embarking on their journey of The Love Intervention...
Samira and Jenna set up an intervention for their friend Laila Clark as they believe she is working way too hard and looking after her mum she needs love and fun in her life she needs all the feel good ingredients like dopamine serotonin etc. So being her best friends they intervene in the best way they know how and they go on a quest which leads them to social media to find 3 ex boyfriends/ male friends that got away or didn't quite make it into Lailas love life. In 1 way or another via her social media all from diff countries but all crossed Lailas path 10 years ago at NYU so they hatch a plan together for her to travel to see them and she can decide from there what happens! Her friends will take care of her mum while she travels so she has no excuse not to go or anything to worry about they know she has accrued annual leave one more box ticked, what could possibly go wrong.
Friendship is the foundation for a good relationship, after all, so they reveal a full presentation to her hopeful that Laila will embrace their reasoning and intervention.
The first person to get in touch is Austin Bradley after her friends had sent him a message when she was at the bathroom because they knew she wouldn't take it seriously.
"Phone buzzed with a WhatsApp message from someone I hadn't heard from in 10 years... 1 name 2 words ~ Edwardo Moretti"
"The absence of serotonin in the system could cause a range of symptoms, decreased energy levels, sadness, feeling hopeless, mood swings, increased or decreased appetite, difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much and cognitive symptoms such as poor memory"
A little note from me here in my own personal take from this in the message behind this beautiful story is that... People really underestimate the power of love whether it be with friends, family or a partner there is so much truth in these facts and alot of people who struggle or suffer with physical ailments as well as mental health issues can often be helped with simple connections of being heard, seen and comforted by others. Communication and connection are so much more important to humans that many really fail to give credit to or understand the importance of how much you matter to another person in your life. You never know how you may habe made someone smile in their day by your message, your warm embrace or simply your smile we all need these chemical releases and they most definitely have a massive impact on our physical and mental health and well being!
When we laugh, we produce oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin etc all the feel-good ingredients our body needs without the addition of pharmaceuticals. It isn't to say of course there isn't s place for them as each individual is different but this audiobook for me really is highlighting so much of a bigger message of reality and how when someone feels truly loved they do feel better overall.
I'm sure you have all heard people say you are glowing etc or you may have said this to another usually this is when someone is at peace within themselves, in their lives and living their most fulfilling best self at that time!
Thank you for the beautiful reminder. Back to the review!
"The recurring theme without an absence of these molecules had a detrimental effect on your mental health.... but was love the answer...."???
Love really does cure a lot ❤️
Sad lamps etc ofc do assist in aiding someone's health particularly in winter months however it is a dose it is fleeting this is why it truly is important to have people in your life who love you unconditionally and who you love the same way! Hugs well 🤗 I've always been a hugger, and this just sums up why hugs help people so much, a 20 second hug can release all those positive, feel-good chemicals.
After visit with Austin for a week it had been a fantastic time spent at the vineyard only to come to the realisation that 10 years ago there was a misunderstanding of what may have actually happened Austin hadn't been with her room mate like Laila thought he wasn't the f*ck boy she thought he was, her room mate threw herself at him thst last night when he went to find layla he found her kissing Edwardo and was heartbroken he wanted to give it a go now and make a go of them being a couple and suggests going with her to peuerto Rico but Laila says he can't because she going to see Edwardo which is when all the truth comes out.
This begins a spiral of events that I don't want to give away any more of the plot because it really is so much more than I even anticipated but this is simply a little taster of the backbone of the basic elements of the why these friends set this up, their intentions and also how strong friendships, love and forgiveness all is when faced with various adverse conditions that we don't see coming.
Life isn't easy for anyone we all have our paths to walk however if you walk it with love in your heart & peace in your soul I'm sure like this wonderful book illustrates you will find happiness within ♥️
Absolutely beautiful story of friendship, forgiveness, betrayals, confusion, hurt, angst, twists, and turns but deep faith in love winning in the end!
With thanks to Netgalley & Bolinda Audio for this ARC in return for this review. With best wishes for publication on 1st March 2025. I'm sure this will be a success 🙏🏼♥️🎧
At first it took me a few tries to get started. Given how ridged Leila was, I almost thought she might be high function ASD. But it took getting to 33% of the book to get to the good stuff.
Essentially, Leila's 2 best friends thought she wrung herself out and need some fun, or love. It was dumb how she was forced to take her holiday, by work which she dedicate her time and energy into that betrayed her. At any rate, she went to revisit the 3 guys she had 'a thing with' 10 years ago.
Austin Man, I was rooting for you. You were doing everything right by my book until the last portion of the book. That really pissed me off, he was so promising. Seems like he only have eyes for Leila, knows how to take care of her, how he realized he was on a hamster wheel and know how to get out of that mindless wheel and pivot. Even thinking future with her, not to mention outdoor shower sex is hot! But her beef with that is: the future is hers not someone else's to make decision on her behalf. Fair point, but it's unfair to drudge up some Josh guy who got a promotion, proposed and expects her to move with him... that tidbit of a background to explain why she hated that idea, was flimsy at best. By gosh, the man travel across USA and the Atlantic to come see her and beg her to reconsider. The latter reason of Austin's character was a stronger argument for Leila to close that chapter.
Eduardo The author made clear that he was never a choice because he never chose her. All in all, it's unfair because he got the least time to be with Leila, both 10 years ago, and this revisit. He's a gentleman and all, but he never prioritize her then and doesn't even when she came to visit as a guest. Also, no sexy time for you my friend. I'll give a star for you traveling to see her and not just be a jealous fool and stomps off.
Mateo He's just a heart of gold, and the author guided you there time and again. He wants to take care of her, liked her even when they were kids at the same conference before Uni. He's thoughtful guy, and been thru hurt like she had, He's willing to be vulnerable for her, willing to wait for her to come to her own decision and not make the decision FOR her, but damn is that man patience, bless his heart.
I think I love out of all of that is her decision to see that pivotal one person in NYC. Their relationship blossomed and helped healed her so much, totally what she needed. I would venture to say, it healed them both. Mom was selfish and there's some hurt there, but glad she came to her senses and her journey wasn't an easy one either, but thank goodness to her best friends and mom talk and got to have the entire thing come to full circle.
Personally, if I have to go back 10 years to my old love to see if they were the real loves, I feel like I haven't grown as a person. I get it, a, this is.a book- that is the premise, but in reality, I would feel very different about that. b, no one so lucky to get 3 memorable loves that you wouldn't mind going back to revisit. We all have that one that got away, but 3? Not realistic. I think for this book, 2 would be ok. c, Also unrealistic to show that the 3 men have grown in their work life but not emotionally grow. Hopefully they're not all the same people they were 10 years ago, besides sex why is that part of growth not important?
Anyway, it's tough on the pacing to get going in the beginning, but hang on, once you past 33% it's worth digging into, I literally cannot stop until I'm done. There are spicy scenes, you've been warned.
Thank you NetGalley & Canelo for the ARC.

Laila is too busy with work to even think about dating. Luckily her friends have noticed that she isn't doing well. A forced leave of absence allows them to set her up with some of the men that "got away".
In the modern world in which we live, where women are told they can be anything they want to be, it is easy to imagine someone like Laila. Career-focused, she hasn't got time for silly things like a social life, or even a life. Laila is dedicated to her work. Her friends, Jenna and Samira, have noticed and have decided to stage an intervention.
This is no ordinary intervention though. Knowing that Laila is very analytical they play to her scientific nature and explain how she's lacking in dopamine, the "feel-good" hormone and come up with ways in which she can increase her dopamine levels. Between them, Jenna and Samira have scoured social media and discovered that three of the men that Laila had brief relationships with when she was studying abroad ten years ago are still single. By combining a holiday with a brief chance to reconnect with each man, Laila should be able to boost her dopamine levels, and she may just fall in love.
Laila is skeptical and far too busy, but a problem at work results in her having to take a forced leave of absence. It's the perfect opportunity for a much-needed holiday in America and a chance to reconnect with old flames, Austin, Edoardo and Mateo. Laila also has an ulterior motive, she hopes to put to rest a problem from her past that has been haunting her.
We follow Laila through two magical weeks of sunshine, fun and steaminess as she reconnects with each man and discovers that the relationship she had with each one ended in a misunderstanding. Laila begins to wonder if she's made a mistake by letting each one go - but at the back of her mind is the constant thought of her career and responsibilities back home.
I enjoyed the fact that events weren't wrapped up at the end of the two-week holiday, Laila returns home, refreshed by dopamine, but fully intending to resume the life she'd had. However, while she's been away other people have taken the opportunity to re-evaluate their lives and are about to make drastic changes. As for Austin, Edoardo and Mateo, maybe they see a future with Laila and aren't prepared to let her escape a second time!
When this first got going, it reminded me of another book that I'd read a couple of years ago, with a similar theme.
However, I remembered just how much I'd loved it and wondered how this would compare.
Well, I can confirm that this was an absolutely brilliant read.
We all feel a bit stuck in a rut every now and then and I'm sure lots of us wonder about the past and those missed moments or connections that we never took any further.
Well here, we follow Laila as she embarks on a journey to visit 'the one that got away', 'the old boyfriend' and 'the old best friend' in the hope that reconnecting might provide some closure or better still, rekindle feelings and maybe something more?
I absolutely loved all of the characters in this story.
Laila had obviously had a tough time recently and this break was definitely going to boost her mood and give her some time to reassess life.
It seemed a little unrealistic that all three men were free, single, still in love with Laila and all in exotic locations - but hey, this made for the best of adventures and a glorious setting that would spirit us all off on the journey along with them.
Each of the boys had their charms but I think it was pretty obvious which way things would go and who Laila would choose in the end.
However, I loved that the storyline had some surprises and twists along the way that I hadn't seen coming.
As we follow the story in present day, we also see flashbacks too, so the storyline unfolded gradually, filling in the gaps from the past and explaining the character's decisions and motivations.
I loved how Laila found a way to heal from the past and to move forward in a way that didn't compromise any of her hopes and dreams - and we're obviously treated to a very satisfactory ending.
The writing style had me immersed from the start and even though I thought I knew where this was going, I loved every second.
I'm now really looking forward to reading more from this author in the near future.
The Love Intervention by Caroline Khoury Narrated by Daphne Kouma
I am not typically a fan of stories that shift between the past and the present, as this one does. However, I chose to continue listening because the narrator, Daphne Kouma, captivated my attention with her skilled storytelling. I'm so glad I persevered because the latter half of the book turned out to be incredibly engaging.
Initially, I was sceptical about the concept of the "Love Intervention" trip, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth it brought to the narrative. The book explores significant themes such as grief, guilt, family dynamics, and the essence of true friendship. Samira and Jenna, two devoted friends, decide to stage an intervention for their friend Laila Clark, whom they perceive as a dedicated workaholic engrossed in her career while taking care of her mother. They believe that Laila needs to embrace love and joy in her life once again.
To achieve this, the two friends embark on a heartfelt quest that involves combing through social media to locate three significant men from Laila's past, specifically three ex-boyfriends or male friends from her university days a decade ago in vibrant New York City.
The men they hope to reconnect Laila with are:
Austin - a close friend who she wished was more Edwardo is the ex-boyfriend with whom she ended things when returning from uni. Mateo - another friend who shared memorable experiences during their college years
Their journey takes them to exciting and diverse locations, including the bustling streets of New York City, the sunny beaches of California, the rich cultural heritage of Puerto Rico, and the lush landscapes of Costa Rica. Each destination adds a unique layer to the story, filled with nostalgic moments and unexpected twists that ultimately lead Laila on a path of self-discovery and healing.
4.25 stars. This contemporary romance found me at the perfect time, and as a result, I loved everything about it. Laila is a hard working, independent woman who has made her way through the medical research field. Her two friends decide that she is close to burnout, and devise a plan to help her bring serotonin back into her life with a three week vacation. This love intervention is comprised of travelling around the world to meet three men of Laila’s past, and figure out if it’s possible to find her romance book worthy man, while enjoying the break and the sun.
Being published on February 13 2025 for Valentine’s Day, I cannot recommend this romance enough.
I enjoyed the fact that throughout the entire Love intervention, you had no idea which way Laila was going to sway until later on when things were revealed that made the final decision so much more satisfactory. I loved the dynamic of the friend trio, as it is usually obvious that one person is the outsider with a duo, but this was not the case. I do wish that Jena's conflict was a bit more fleshed out, as I felt that Samira's conflict with her daughter and family was built up and we got a chance to see it more in the interactions with Laila's mother. I wish I got to hear more about how Jena's reflection on the Love Intervention impacted her as in one chapter she was thinking about it and in the next, she had made her decision, which is in contrast to the other girls fleshing out their thought process.
Laila is a 30 something british woman too focused on work and family to even think about sex, let alone love, or a relationship. But things are about to change when her two best friends decide to stage a Love intervention: a plan to give Laila time to reconnect with past lovers, heal herself, and be ready for a future filled with love and possibilities.
Overall, I think the book tells a nice story. I particularly loved the flashbacks, linking past and present without it being too much. I also loved the FMC character growth throughout the book.
What I didn't expect, given how much stuff happens, is how well Caroline Khoury depicted the ripercussions of grief and guilt over a prolonged period of time: Laila's guilt for past actions is all over the book, but not in an unrealistic or overdramatized way. Rather, we walk her same steps, and even if we don't always agree with her actions, we can still simpatyze with her.
On the other hand, the MMCs felt a little flat: while Laila changed between the past and the present, it seems like the guys she remembered were still there, no major changes in the 10 years between the then and now. But again, it's Laila's story of self discovery, not theirs.
A minus for me, this is mostly a closed door romance, and most defenetly not a why choose as the cover might suggest.
I would defenetly recommend this book for a fun and easy read, and I hope we get to see more of the minor character's story in future installments. I feel really invested in what happens to her two best friends.
I started reading the ebook (and was enjoying it) but the desire to pick up my kindle wasn’t there so the audiobook via netgalley was a life saver.
Without audio I would have missed out on a gorgeous romcom that was so much more. The pacing was a little slow at times, but the story kept me interested. It’s what you expect from a romcom with your favourite tropes too but the part I loved the most was this goes deeper than just a love square. There is heartache, laughter, growth, reforging of relationships and so much more. It’s hard to explain more without spoilers so all I will say is “The Love Intervention” Layla’s friends set up, ends up being more than searching for DOSE! (Dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin & endorphins).
Layla kinda annoyed me at the start but as her story unfolded I grew to understand and relate to her more and loved the journey she took including all the highs, lows, heartache and pleasure! And yes there is spice. It’s possibly about a 1 on the spice scale but took me by surprise.
The audio narration was brilliant. It was easy to distinguish between each of the female characters and it did help bring their characters & personalities to life. And even the male ones were good. Whenever someone narrates in the opposite gender and with an accent, I can’t help but smile but it doesn’t detract from the story. I love audiobooks and will definitely pick one up if Daphne Kouma is the narrator.
Love, in all its forms, is definitely at the core of this story. Such a fantastic read.
Thank you canelo for the ebook & Bolinda audio for the audiobook.
Review: This book follows the story of Laila Clarke who is a clinical scientist as she goes on a vacation to meet 3 guys from her past in order to get DOSEd up (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin & Endorphins) for a change with a new adventure.
This story was very intriguing as it goes back and forth between two different timelines with 4 different characters. The present timeline where she works at the hospital and takes a vacation due to unforeseen circumstances, and the vacation was planned by her 2 best friends who were worried about her. The vacation plan was to meet with all the 3 guys, one after the other and experience life.
The past timeline is 10 years ago when she was studying in NYU. Austin was her crush in Uni, Edoardo was her boyfriend and Mateo was her bestfriend. They all lost touch after graduation.
I liked the plot a whole lot more than the execution. I wanted to see it through the end and know whom is Laila gonna fall in love with. I wanted to see her grow and make her own decisions, but that was missing. It shows her journey about healing from past trauma and finally get the courage to move on.
My most favourite character was Gregory (I won't spoil who he is for y'all, because he's not who you think he is).
The premise is definitely interesting and it is a love square, so if that is intriguing, you can give it a shot.
Thank you Net Galley for providing me with this ARC and this is my honest review.
Nope nope nope. This was book was so messy. This was just not it. The first 20% of the book was so boring. It was hard to feel interested in the FMC because her career is something I don’t understand. Her attitude towards her friends bothered me too. I think the idea of this story is a cute one but the execution totally missed the mark. Austin was not it. Homeboy is just too much. Edoardo was the perfect character to be the one that she doesn’t re-connect with. Mateo was EVERYTHING. I knew from their time together that he would be endgame. BUT the sudden “I gotta go back to the states to meet my gay dad’s husband and resolve my guilt and grief” ruined the entire book. First of all, the gay dad thing and “how does he identify” just felt so wrong. Do people genuinely ask that about their parents? Idk I just felt the whole grief/gay dad thing was so left field and ruined the “romance book” that this was supposed to be. And then she just goes months without talking to Mateo? Also, how did her friends not take any accountability for contributing to the drama that was the men finding out about this intervention? I’d be so mad that my friends didn’t take that into consideration. My 2 star rating is for Mateo. He was the only thing I liked about this book. Idk I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the ending, I didn’t like the story changes….. just wasn’t it for me. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had high hopes for this one! The blurb sounded fresh and original—a woman in STEM applying science to love? Sign me up! The book starts off strong, and I really liked the idea of Laila’s friends using a “scientific” approach to reconnect her with the three men from her past. Plus, I’m always here for a women-in-STEM lead.
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Daphne Kouma, and while I didn’t love the book itself, her narration was fantastic. She did an amazing job with the different accents, making each of Laila’s past loves feel distinct. Honestly, her performance was one of the highlights for me.
That said, somewhere along the way, I started losing interest. There was a lot going on—past timelines, multiple love interests, personal growth, family drama—and it got a bit too messy for me. The frequent jumps to the past made it hard to stay engaged, and at one point, I found myself reluctant to pick it back up.
It’s not a bad book by any means. There were parts of Laila’s journey that I really enjoyed, especially her self-discovery, but even that felt a bit rushed. But I think if the story had been a little less complicated (maybe fewer love interests?), it would have held my attention better.
Overall, a mixed experience—great narration, an interesting premise, but a bit too much going on for me to fully connect with it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bolinda Audio for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Clinical scientist Laila has no time to date but when her life starts to crumble, her friends stage a love intervention. They aim to reconnect her with three past loves to show her there’s more to life than work. Will one of them be the one to rewrite her five year plan? Was it just her love life that needed an intervention?
I absolutely loved this! The characters were so complex and beautifully fleshed out. It was so fun to see them grow over the course of the book, both the side and main characters. I feel like this book had me reflecting on my own life, which I love when a book makes me question things especially in my own life. I would definitely be interested in reading more of Caroline’s books as this was my first!
I just absolutely adore plots where a character’s life is falling apart right in front of their eyes but then it ends up becoming so much more fulfilling for them by the end. Although I didn’t mind the ending, I do wish that it was longer but this is purely because I was invested in the romance. It would have been so nice to see their life together after everything that had happened and I would have loved to see more bonding with one particular character because towards the end, it felt like everything was moving a little quickly for my liking.

Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the advance copy.
Laila has no time for a social life. The last decade of her life has been dedicated to her job at a London hospital as a clinical scientist. Her two best girlfriends are ready to intervene. They know Laila needs a break from work and caring for her mother, in addition to sunshine and sex! Sneakily digging into the past the girls force Laila to admit she has not had an actual relationship or even a crush since her graduate school days at NYU. After doing some of their own love research they decide to arrange a three week vacation bringing Austin, Edoardo and Mateo back into Laila’s life. Categorizing these handsome hunks as second chance romance, friends to lovers and the one that got away, she begrudgingly sets off on this life changing adventure. From magnificent wine vineyards in California to the nature trails of Puerto Rico and Costa Rican beaches Laila wakes up from her work coma and begins to realize she can write the script for her own future. Through one steamy mishap after another Laila must come to terms with painful memories that have been holding her back for a decade. What better Valentines read than to learn it’s never too late for love!
3 stars because it was a well planned romance, closed door, and slow building. While not my favorite kind to read it was its great moments, specially at the 70-80% mark. And I’m glad I didn’t DNF
This book had so much potential, the concept of an intervention and the FMC going on a trip to reconnect with 3 different guys from her past it was so interesting.
It had some fun moments and it was clear from the begging who was the one.
It’s incredibly slow, and up until the 80% mark lacked depth and emotional connection. We had all the facts of what happens throughout the book but a lot of it what about what she was doing not what she was feeling. Which made it difficult to connect with the heroine.
At 80% we finally get some emotion and personal growth. Which at that point felt slightly rushed. Would’ve loved to see and hear more of her moms relationship with her, her stepdad and even a more in depth connection with her friends. Or maybe a little more of the 3 guys everything was just surface level about their jobs and what they did. Maybe except with 1.
This was such a fun, heartwarming read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Poor Laila really went through it in the past and she's focused so hard on her career as a clinical scientist (and an ailing mother) she's forgotten how to have fun. When things hit rock bottom at work her friends decide to intervene and call a Love Intervention, namely with 3 of the men from her past (Edoardo, Mateo and Austin), and sets off on a trip to reunite with them. During the trip she deals with the demons from her past and really develops a deeper understanding of her self and what she wants from life (with some fantastic spice along the way!). I definitely found that this book gave me a lot more than I realised as it is a gentle reminder to not take life too seriously and get caught up in the same routine every day before looking back with regrets at the time wasted, and about appreciating who you have around you and standing up what is best for yourself, even with family. I also love the fact she has a career in STEM (might be biased because I am a nurse haha). It was a perfect time in my life to read this too.

I loved this layered contemporary romance sprinkled with spice.
We have our heroine Laila, a workaholic shadowed by an underlying darkness. When her friends decide to intervene and encourage her to revisit relationships of her past, Laila sets off to discover more than she bargained for.
I loved the depth in this book and how it wasn't just a typical romance, but so much more. I was on Laila's journey of discovery with her. She was unsure, I was unsure, and this was a testament to Khoury's writing.
I loved how the theme of this story was centred around the healing qualities of touch and the importance of letting barriers down to be able to move through our storms. A great message, and personally, this book was a comfort to me at a difficult time.
The characterisation was on point and championed all those favourite tropes... second chance love, friends to lovers, the one who got away and all that wrapped up in a love square bow!
I can't recommend it enough. It's found a home for life in my permanent collection, and now it's time to invest in Khoury's back catalogue. Can't wait.
The Love Intervention is a light, easy read, with 3 girlfriends taking care of each other. The plot centers around Laila, who is stuck in a work/life rut and is reluctantly convinced by her 2 best friends that she needs to get a shot of dopamine and other feel good hormones by having some international booty calls.
I enjoyed the love shown between the 3 women - their history, their secrets, and their friendship. But the booty call situation just felt icky. It's the female version of a sailor with a girl in every port, and regardless of double standards and whatnot, it still felt manipulative and disdainful of the feelings of others.
Let's boil it down. Laila is selfish. She does her Eat Pray Love sabbatical at the expense of others. And then when she gets the swoony big gestures, decides they're not good enough? As if we all have 3 hot guys who want to be with us and we get to choose?
There's plenty of grief, secrets, misunderstandings, emotional growth, and other big feelings to excuse everyone's behavior, but it all felt "off".
Spice was good, definitely some grief triggers, and for what it's worth, an HEA-ish, but not quite for me.
This is one of these books that you love the story, but you want to yell at the main character at points. It is a heart-warming, fun, and emotionally rich romance that takes you on a journey of self-discovery and second chances. Laila, a hardworking scientist is stuck in a routine, lives at home with her mum, and her whole life is her job. Her best friends stage a "love intervention" to help her reconnect with three men from her past—each representing a different path her life could take. The book moves between the present and the past, and Laila navigates old flames, family expectations, and the realization that love and happiness don’t always fit into a perfectly planned life, while understanding herself and others better. With humour, heartfelt moments, and a touch of adventure, this book delivers an engaging read. It is a bit slow, but that adds to the depth of the stories for me. I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook for this, and the narrator did a great job expressing different characters' voices, and emotions. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of the audiobook for me to review.
