Is there nothing a mother wouldn’t do to save her own child?

Rochelle Pendleton has a problem. Her three-year-old son, Joey, has been diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness, and his only chance for survival is a bone marrow transplant—and his odds are best with a familial donor, and she’s not a match. Her dilemma lies in the non-disclosure agreement she signed at Joey’s birth, exchanging her silence regarding the child’s paternity for a sizable cash settlement. Desperate to appeal to the man’s sensibilities without violating the NDA, Ms. Pendleton sets out to hire a team of private detectives to relay her urgent plea for help, but she can’t seem to find a firm willing to accept the assignment—at least not until she walks through the doors of Boggs Investigations.

Once Dwayne Morrow learns the identity of Joey’s father, a powerful senator with connections to an achingly fresh personal loss, it provides an unexpected opportunity to gain closure for his family while helping a distraught mother in the process. With or without Doug’s approval, it’s a case Dwayne simply can’t refuse.

Will Dwayne find the answers he’s looking for or will the senator’s highly-trained security detail stop him dead in his tracks?

Deception is the seventh edge-of-your-seat entry in the Dwayne Morrow Mystery series!

Secrets, personal stakes, and that Midwest grit...

As expected, Deception delivers everything I’ve come to love about the Dwayne Morrow series—his impulsive, act-now-think-later approach keeps the reader entertained while also keeping us flipping the pages faster and faster to get to the answers. And in this particular case, Rochelle Pendleton’s heartbreaking predicament adds an emotional depth that pulls the reader right in. With the tangled web of secrets, government power, and Dwayne and his family's personal grief tied to this case, the stakes feel even higher than usual.

Also present is one of the things I love best about Miller’s writing, and that’s his uncanny ability to weave in that distinct Midwestern flair that makes the setting feel lived-in rather than simply described. I just love getting to visit in each and every one of these books.

And while I thoroughly enjoyed this one, I have to admit—Abduction still holds one of the top spots for me in terms of sheer intensity.

That being said, fans of the series will find Deception just as addictive as each of the other books. I know I did!

Book Review:
Rochelle Pendleton is a devoted mother driven by a mission of utmost urgency. Her young son, Joey, faces a life-threatening need for a bone marrow transplant if he is to survive beyond the age of three. In search of a compatible donor, Rochelle's gaze turns toward family members, as they often make the best matches. However, she finds herself in a precarious situation: Joey's biological father, her last resort, is a well-known public figure, entrenched in a prominent political family. The barriers are substantial—security measures prevent her from reaching him, and a non-disclosure agreement binds her to silence. Despite lingering emotions for him, exposing his identity could jeopardize his career, a risk Rochelle is reluctant to take. Yet, with her son’s life at stake, she must consider every possibility, leading her to the doors of Boggs Investigations.
Upon her initial meeting at Boggs Investigations, Dwayne Morrow is immediately drawn into Rochelle's case, which hits uncomfortably close to home for him—it's personal this time. As he delves deeper, he uncovers a complicated web of secrets that intertwine his personal and professional life. Danger is no stranger to Dwayne, but this case raises the stakes significantly. Someone is determined to thwart his investigation. The threat extends to his loved ones, marked by a menacing visit to Melanie’s home. Although Melanie is fiercely independent, Dwayne's protective instincts ignite, further complicating their already strained relationship.
Rochelle's situation takes a dire turn when she is accused of murder. A body is found in her guest cottage, and her fingerprints are discovered on the weapon. Despite the evidence, Dwayne remains doubtful of her guilt. In a race against time to prove her innocence, he faces several crises—a family member and a close friend both land in the hospital, and Dwayne himself suffers his worst physical beating yet. The emotional turmoil from his sister Gina’s past continues to haunt him, and his relationship with Melanie teeters on the brink, further strained by their attempt at counseling.

I’ve waited a long time for Deception, book seven in the Dwayne Morrow Series, and Darin Miller did not disappoint me! When we left off, Dwayne and Mel were on the outs, and nothing was what it seemed for Dwayne’s family.

In Deception, the intricate web of lies is tightly woven in the life of Boggs Investigations' newest client. She needs their help to put her in touch with her baby daddy. The problem? He’s, shall we say, well known, and the likelihood that the bumbling Dwayne Morrow will accomplish what so many others failed to do is slim...or are they? He may be bumbling, but he is persistent, which is what Rochelle is counting on.

Dwayne's relentless pursuit of the truth leads him to uncover secrets one man would prefer to remain covered, and he suffers because of it. When Mel’s family runs into trouble, Dwayne is pulled in more directions than a man has time, and suddenly, he’s faced with deciding what’s more important - a little boy’s life or his future.

Miller's ease at storytelling shines brightly in Deception and keeps readers on the edge of their seats, weaving suspense into family and friend drama that makes you wonder how it could possibly all work out. Especially since Dwayne is playing it solo and making it up as he goes along. The relationship between Dwayne and Mel adds emotional depth to the narrative, giving the reader a thrilling mystery and a poignant exploration of love, and thereby trust, between two people who are clearly made for each other. Deception is another well-done whodunit that will have you turning the pages late into the night to see if Dwayne can figure it all out before it’s too late.

Absolutely love this Series! Dwayne is goofy but kind and sensitive. He’s working on becoming a PI. Working with his school pal, Doug. In book #7 Dwayne is trying to help Rochelle get through to her son’s father. Who just happens to be a popular Senator. She hopes that the Senator will be willing to help save her son. He needs a life saving bone marrow transplant.

Dwayne seems to always have a series of unfortunate events.
In this episode of Dwayne gets in trouble.. Starting with couples counseling . He doesn’t take it seriously. However, Melanie is very serious about it.
Next we have a malfunctioning water heater. That leads to Dwayne using his clients guest house. Then he literally bumps into the senator’s wife. Throw in a medical emergency and finding the out the senator is dead in the guest house he was using. Poor Dwayne then decides to mouth off to one of the Hired goons and take a major beeting. Luckily Brady comes to his rescue.

The Dwayne Morrow books are a must read!!

Bunches of babies, disgruntled women, politics, and the lack of Doug Boggs. Soon to be Detective Dwayne Morrow has his own problems to deal with but is suddenly the main one handling Boggs Investigations newest case. He is determined to help the client because it it a matter of life or death. But Dwayne has a way of stepping on toes and causing more trouble than he anticipated. This book is full of action, and will keep you holding your breath. I love that the main characters interact with one another in such a way that makes me laugh at their friendship and relationships…or sometimes lack of, but at the same time working together to reach their end goal. And I definitely recommend this book and the entire series

Darin Miller has really hit his stride with the latest entry in the Dwayne Morrow series. He has consolidated threads from the previous books and their characters into a tight, exciting story with Dwayne mostly fumbling through his investigation as usual. As much as the action grabs you, this story is really character driven.

Millers control of his characters has really grown over the series, and the emotional ties growing between them are as delightful as they are sometimes largely unexpected.

If you're a Dwayne fan, you definitely don't want to miss out on this one. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

What a surprise! Boggs Investigations takes on a client no one else wants and Doug Boggs turns the case over to investigator in training, Dwayne Morrow. Not only that, penny pinching Doug Boggs hires another investigator, no other than Dwayne's girlfriend Melanie. The new case involves a woman who's son is in need of a bone marrow transplant. The mother is not a match and is hoping the father is. One catch. She had signed a non disclosure with the father who just happens to be an influential senator and is connected to the death of Dwayne's sister. I loved the way parts of previous books are incorporated into this book. The characters are intricate and I love their interaction with Dwayne. The plot pulls the reader in from page one. Everything fits together perfectly for another thrilling, intense story by a master storyteller.
