Don't judge a book by its cover! What a great little book this is. If you want to get a coherent and concise overview of Matthew's gospel, in a part-commentary, part-devotional style, this is book is the one. Jackman explains the focus and flow of Matthew's gospel convincingly, whilst also providing sharp interpretation and application of many key verses. Jackman, a gifted preacher, unsurprisingly writes clearly and urgently.
The Jesus of Matthew's account is ignored by so many of its proud and foolish characters, yet the only correct response is to take his powerful words seriously like, taking the attitude of an inquisitive child. The way Jackman writes naturally cries out for thoughtful reflection on the Word, the book opens up many avenues of thought as to how the Gospel fits in with both the whole Canon, and with the Jewish society of Jesus' day. This book is frankly for anyone, short enough to be read in a few weeks, it will help preachers, new Christians and backsliders alike.
