Voglio toccarti adesso... Penso che tu mi piaccia davvero. Sono innamorata, ma non riesco ad ammetterlo... (Dulcis in fundo) Mi fai perdere la testa! E la cosa mi piace... (Miyabi e Miyabi) Voglio vedere tutto di te. (Due paia di occhiali) Mi piaci! E non mi arrenderò! (Vane speranze)".
"Regret is part of life! Better to regret trying something than to regret never doing anything at all! Let's go for it!"
4.5 stars
This was such a fun and cute collection of love stories! I really enjoyed the running theme of each of the girls taking action and revealing their feelings to the boy they like. I found it inspiring because high school me would never be that brave! 😆 So it was fun and refreshing to see how each female lead conveyed her feelings!
My favorite story was Miyabi and Miyabi, but Double Glasses is a VERY close second! With the first story, I LOVEDDDDD the delinquent-like/playboy vibes Ichido gave us, but was actually a total sweetheart! A trope that always has me hooked, line, and sinker! LOL! Plus, I love how our female lead really softened up by the end! Much much cuteness!
Double Glasses was absolutely hilarious to read and had a blast! I'm not much for "pervy" characters, but I did find Amakuni really sweet and relatable! Mikoshiba was SOOOO cute! I really really enjoyed seeing their relationship bloom and how special it was for them to start holding hands! Was also happy to see more of them in a bonus short story! What a fun surprise!
I really liked the first one, Special Occasions, but I wish I knew and understood more about calligraphy because I think I would have appreciated the story more. I did think it was cute though!
Same as the last one, Full of Me, Full of You! It had a fun "twist" in the story and enjoyed seeing how it all unfolded!
Overall, this was a wonderful collection and I was VERY excited for more of Uzuki's works because she is a wonderful storyteller with beautiful art! I would recommend this if you're looking for a sweet and fun romance that has first kisses!
Not the biggest fan of multiple stories in one, that being said I thought it was very cute. I got a good feel for all the characters in this short amount of time and each couple did feel refreshing and new. The first couple was probably my least favorite out of the bunch which had me nervous for the rest of the stories but I enjoyed all of the ones that followed.
This was a very sweet collection of four stories about first love. All of the stories are strong with beautiful art, but my favorites were the first and third ones.
As far as anthologies go, this one is decent. It has four stories of girls finding love and getting kissed. I think my biggest issue is that the guys in at least two stories are kind of dull. The second story’s male lead is a bit less respectful of personal space than I tend to enjoy at this stage and that’s my least favorite.
The third story here is the real winner, where two people with glasses wind up dating and being really into one another and it turns out the girl has the hormones of the lead in Lovesick Ellie and the imagination to match. The whole thing is fun and the two so obviously into each other, plus a bonus for their glasses clinking when they try and figure out kissing.
I think the first story is the second best, being closer to a teasing relationship and managing to foreshadow a payoff that it then does payoff in lovely fashion when it wraps up. All of these do have strong endings, so points for that.
It all feels very much along traditional shojo lines, which isn’t a bad thing, and there’s only so much you can do with fifty or so pages, but this is also more complete than some ten volume series I’ve read. Even the worst story has some merit to it and I can’t say that about many anthologies.
Honestly, I was going to round it down from 3.5 stars, but I think I’ll go up because, on reflection, what it manages is impressive. And, really, it made me want to read a full series by Coco Uzeki, which is also quite an accomplishment on its own.
A cute collection of 4 oneshots about different couples’ first kiss by the creator of Fall In Love, You False Angels. My favorite was ch. 3 “Double Glasses,” and I ended up reading it twice!
OH DUDE this had me absolutely giggling and kicking my feet bro this was SAUR CUTEEEEEEE. how is every couple ADORABLE. my faves were glasses couple and the bratty couple absolutely loveddddd
High 4 stars. This may be higher, as one of the stories was definitely a 5 star read, and nothing was lower than 4 stars. This volume included 4 one-shot love stories. I have loved everything I've read by this mangaka.
It's so rare to get a shojo oneshot collection translated over to the West so I'm so happy this exists! Overall the collection had great character dynamics and dialogue which seems to be their real forte. Along with some great hidden feelings or people trying to hide true intentions or having a persona. Individual reviews below. Average rating is roughly 4.1/5. Highlight is definitely Miyabi and Miyabi! Special Occasions - 3.75. Miyabi and Miyabi - 4. Double Glasses- 5. Full of Me, Full of You - 3.5.
Hoteri Hotette First Kiss is a super cute manga anthology about junior high students and their first kisses. Every couple had their own charm, but the glasses couple totally stole the show for me. Their story was so sweet and adorable that I honestly wouldn’t have minded if the whole manga had been just about them.
Since this is by Coco Uzuki, I already expected to love the art that made all the little moments of young love feel extra heartwarming.
Ep.1: Girl calm down, senpai is just furthering his education, he’s not dying. (Least fave) Ep.2: A teacher needs to clock this room before teen pregnancy occurs fr. Ep.3: 10/10 MY FAVORITE AND THATS WHY THEY DESERVED FRONT COVER. Loved those two cute nerds. The pair was so Zayne/MC coded. Ep.4: Imagine your crush keeps a photo-card of you in his handbook and you did the same. Wild.
