Tapestry of Strength by Tim Koch is a well written and engaging story from beginning to end. I could not put the book down once I started to read it. Every page was an interesting recollection of Tim and Betsy’s journey to forge a family through infertility challenges, international adoption and the birth of their youngest daughter. Tim does an excellent job of weaving their personal experiences along with cultural and historical information. He also added humor throughout the book which I am sure was needed through it all! My wife and I went through the process of forming a family through international adoption many years ago. Although the experiences were different, it definitely rekindled many of the experiences and emotions that we went through ourselves. This is a highly recommended reading for anyone who has experienced the love of family.
This book takes readers through the journey of Tim and Betsy's infertility, adoption and the stressful challenges of international travel. Tim's writing leads you through their emotions...anticipation, joy, uncertainty, fear, and loss. The relationships and lifelong friendships they build as they support other parents going through the same experience to build a family are heartwarming. It was easy to get pulled into their story and keep on reading to discover what happens as each child joined their family. I highly recommend this book by Tim Koch!
Tapestry of Strength is a great book to understand a few important topics, including adoption, grief, the unknowns of life presenting some good and some bad, and how much effort you truly have to put in for good things to come your way.
Tim does a great job weaving in historical context, humor, and vulnerability to leave the reader with a sense of what it must have been like to be adopting a child in the late 80's and early 90's.
I read to get perspective on other’s peoples lives, and this book gave me the ultimate perspective on the joys and fears of international adoption. I truly felt like I was walking the streets of Peru with Tim and Betsy. While there are lots of scary moments, you feel the connection Tim is making with other couples who are also adopting. The network the Kochs make is truly inspiring. A must read!
