ARC Review

Meh. Not as entertaining as All the Hidden Monsters but I still managed to survive. 😐😐😐.

All the lost souls is part of a paranormal series that I should be falling in love with. I mean, we literally have an entire series that introduces readers to a whole universe of paranormal monsters. Majority of them live amongst humans as well as other like-minded creatures and are willing to let their magic shine all over the place (so exciting). Add the fact that this series also features a Warlock police force, The Arcañum, who solve a load of murders and mysteries and boom!!! WE SHOULD HAVE THE PERFECT PARANORMAL SERIES TO EVER EXIST!!! Unfortunately, for me, I have found that after reading both All the hidden monsters (Book #1, which I finished back in September of this year) and All the lost souls, I feel nothing but disappointment, boredom, and annoyance.

As I sit here and compose this review for All the lost souls, I cannot help but think about my experience with All the hidden monsters. Back when I read All the hidden monsters, I did a physical book and audiobook read along. By participating in this process, All the hidden monsters was brought to life for me. I was able to capture the essence of both Sage, the FMC, and Oren, the MMC. I was able to visualize the setting of the book as well as get to know a little of the side characters and how they became the paranormal creatures that they are. I even found myself falling in love with Patricia, aka P, the beautiful poltergeist who is Sage’s best friend and who found a way to develop her own relationship with Oren. Reading All the hidden monsters with its audiobook companion also allowed me to enjoy a well crafted murder mystery that broke my heart a little. All in all, my experience with All the hidden monsters was a 3⭐️ read, which is pretty good in my opinion. But, as sit here and think about my experience with All the lost souls, I find myself thinking that maybe I might need to end my journey with this series right here, right now. Given that the next book doesn’t appear to be coming out until next year, I seem to have time to decide. I shall see. 😬😬😬.

When it comes to the books I read, I often find myself needing to read the synopsis first. With All the lost souls, I read the synopsis back when I requested the ARC and then decided to just read the book itself without participating in a synopsis recap. Oooh boy will I not be doing that again. All I remember about the gist of All the lost souls is that Sage and Oren continue their working partnership as they are called to solve a mysterious problem between a Witch Coven and a Werewolf Pack. It also seems apparent that Sage and Oren not only develop a friendship but romance feelings for one another as they take residence in a mountainside to figure out what is truly going wrong with these two paranormal groups. Given that my experience with All the hidden monsters was a 3⭐️, I was really hoping that All the lost souls was going to be a step up. But, nope!!! Again, I am left feeling disappointed, bored, and annoyed. 😒😒😒.

While I might be up in the air about the next book, my favorite thing about this series is that each chapter is told from a different POV. Where All the hidden monsters only featured Sage and Oren’s POV, All the lost souls featured Sage, Oren, and P’s POV. Being able to finally see the world as well as her feelings from P’s POV was an interesting touch to this series. However, it wasn’t enough to save this book for me. One of my biggest issues with this particular book was Sage. According to both books, Sage is a 19 year old female human who has been a werewolf for 11 years of her life. However, Sage acts like a 12 year old teenager. In this book, her chapters felt like she was immature and incapable of controlling her emotions. Even though there were a number of excuses given as to why her emotions were all the place, she was still extremely annoying. And let’s not get started on her feelings for Oren. One sentence she was unsure about her feelings and then two sentences later she was jealous of Oren being with another girl or couldn’t stop thinking about him. Soon, it just got to be too much for me. My second issue with this book is Oren. In All the hidden monsters, Oren was written as the typical brooding male type. He was Mr. “I don’t care about anything,” “I don’t need friends,” and “showing emotions are gross.” In All the lost souls, Oren still carried that same attitude only he kept contradicting himself when it came to Sage. Oren appears not to care about much of anything but all his actions were driven by his feelings for Sage. For some readers, several of his decisions might make them swoon, blush, or even say “awe” but, for me, I felt like I was experiencing whiplash. All the lost souls has me feeling very worried about Sage and Oren’s relationship in Book #3. I honestly do not know if I can handle another book where these two act like it is going to be the end of the world after a fight or if they genuinely try to have a real romantic relationship. I know this is YA but, even YA readers act more mature than these two characters. Ugh!!!

And then we have my third and final issue: the “case” that was the main focus of this book. I am proud to say that my memory about the gist of this story is correct. Readers are introduced to a Witch Coven and a Werewolf Pack that share a river bank that runs through this beautiful mountainside. These two paranormal groups are currently unable to get along with one another which has led to a ton of animosity as well as strange situations occurring on each side of the river. Without revealing too much, things are not really how they seem or how Sage and Oren’s boss, Roderick, presented things to them. In my opinion, this case was more of a cold case than a murder mystery. It took forever for the truth to be revealed (49 chapters to be exact) and this portion of the book moved really slow.

After skimming a few other reviews, I can see that my review is going to be a minority one. I mean, there are moments where this book does work and has some beautiful things happening but, for me, there were more instances where things really annoyed me or I found myself wanting to scream at a certain character for doing something that felt so dumb. Again, I honestly don’t know if I am going to read Book #3, especially after reading its synopsis. I will say though that if you do find yourself wanting to read this book, let alone this series, then I think you should. You could find yourself reading what could soon be your next favorite series.

Thank you NetGalley and Chicken House/Scholastic for granting my request of an Advance Reader’s Copy in exchange for my honest and personal opinion!!!

Thank you to Amie Jordan for setting new, impossibly high standards for men. Not only do they need to possess magical abilities, but I will now only accept a man that transports me to the eiffel tower for a dinner date.

This is a heartfelt, emotional and funny second instalment in the series, that picks up straight from where the first book left off, when Sage and Oren are given another case to solve. I loved how the setting of this story is completely contrasting to the first, as we’re introduced to witch covens and werewolf colonies outside of Downside and the UK.

This book is the perfect blend of fantasy, mystery and slow burn, but I personally adored the focus on friendship and found family. Whilst the story, and world building, is easy to follow, it deep dives into these themes through the complexity of the characters and their relationships. It perfectly illustrates that age, race, profession (or even specie in this case!) doesn’t determine who your friends are. There’s a high stakes, forbidden love theme running throughout this, that often made me want to scream at the characters!

Reading chapters from P’s pov was such a welcome surprise as she is my favourite character!! Her resilience, kindness and determination shine throughout this book. She is the best friend every girl needs.

I loved how we saw a more raw side from Oren, as he opened up and connected to his feelings. We saw a softer side to him, whilst still being his ruthless, fearless self, which only made him more likeable. I also appreciated how this book gave a nod towards mental health, dealing with trauma and the queer community, keeping it relatable and realistic (even for a fantasy!)

Now I desperately need book 3!!

Well, after how much I loved All The Hidden Monsters, of course this was a must read for me as soon as it arrived on my doorstep! A million thank you to the publisher for sending me an early manuscript of this to read and review.

What a breath of fresh air it was to be reuinted with Sage and Oren again and ofc everyone's favourite perfect poltergeist, P. We would definitely bond for hours over our love of cheese 🤭🤣🤣

I was sucked right back into their world and I didn't want to leave. It doesn't take long for the action to kick in, I was gripped from the very start and was completely consumed by this book. I couldnt think of anything else while reading and when I was busy, all I wanted was to go and pick this up again.

We are introduced to array of new characters while investigating the mysterious events in the Jura mountains. Some are sweet, some suspicious. The only thing these rival clans can seem to agree on is that they cant get along with eachother. But all is not as it seems...

We uncover dangers and death and so many secrets hidden within these pages. Theres also alot of mystery surrounding one of our main characters too which had me on the edge of my seat at times!

This was an absolute joy to read and I am willing to sell my soul for Book 3 because there's no way I can wait over a year to find out what happens next after THAT ending 👀

A sensational sequel that made me gasp and giggle. If you're in the mood for a supernatural story filled with twists, turns and treachery then you need look no further.

why is no one reading this series? 90 ratings...

great character development, representation, messages. only criticism was that there was a lack of P, Oren and Sage dynamics which I missed.

All The Lost Souls is a wonderful mix of Mystery, folklore and the complexity of love in the face of mortality.

This books filled with sweet moments that just make you want to smack the characters so they wake up realise how STUPID they are being!!!

You pick up straight after the first book where Sage is on her first mission for the Arcanum and of course grumpy / insufferable warlock Oren has to get himself invited along to her first mission. I loved that they are thrown into a completely different setting out in the wilderness that feels so different from the first book!

The world expands when they have take up a perilous case, between a rival witch coven and warring werewolf pack that hits closer to home than either of them could ever suspect!

This book was heartfelt , fun and had me guessing right up until the end!! I’m living for all the sweet P moments she needs her own spin off novella please!!! 😭😭😭

Thank you so much Chicken House for the early manuscript!! The only downside is now I really need to know what happens in book 3 😭😭

Prepare yourself for the explosive follow up to All the Hidden Monsters - This book DELIVERED! Mind-blowing and a true heartwarmer, it will have you utterly captured from the first page.

Being back with Oren and Sage (and of course, our favourite poltergeist P) was like catching up with your favourite friends. I’m so invested in their story, all of the heart fuzzy happy feelings I got reading the first book instantly came rushing back.

Not only is the story itself absolutely amazing, but that paired with the lovable characters and effortlessly entertaining writing, makes this book an easy contender for your shelf.

It’s everything a supernatural YA should be. It has werewolves, warlocks and wayward magic, grumpyxsunshine and a found family which will have you happily bawling. I absolutely love the Sage and Oren duo on the case of supernatural investigations and if I could have a mind wipe to experience this book again for the first time I would.

My excitement levels for the third book are gargantuan and after that ending - ooof. It has been such an amazing series so far and it’s really become an easily enjoyable comfort series that you want to return back to again and again. I can’t wait to pick the story back up with Sage, Oren & co in the next book.

Thank you to Chicken House Publishing for an early copy of this book, and to the author Amie Jordan for the chance to read and review this ahead of publication.

What an absolutely incredible, warm hug of a book! All The Lost Souls picks right back where All The Hidden Monster has left off, and being reunited with Sage, Oren, P, and the rest of the gang, has felt like being home again.

In this instalment, Sage and Oren are on their way to the Jura mountains in France, as they are on a secret Arcanūm mission that involves mediation with other wolf packs, witches, and other magical creatures. But things quickly turn dark, as a mysterious, black fog emerges upon the mountain villages and kills everything it touches.

The supernatural element in the book weaves in perfectly into the fantasy world that Amie has created. Character depth and storyline flow together seamlessly, no stone left unturned. I have loved being part of the ever so slightly growing romance between Oren and Sage, and oh boy, are we all now just subject to extremely unrealistic expectations of being shifted to Paris for dinner?!

Aside from a splendid main cast of characters, we have some absolutely fantastic secondary characters. P, obviously, who is everyone’s favourite chef poltergeist and master negotiator, is someone I want as a best friend. Hozier and Berion are absolutely incredible additions to wrap up our little Arcanūm family, and the other wolves and even the witches have been developed in a way that reels the readers into the magical world of All The Lost Souls.

I cannot wait to see what else Amie is keeping up her sleeve, but I am already so excited for the third book, and will be shouting about this one from the rooftops!

Wie gut war das Buch?! 😱

Second book in the series; the lore is getting deeper, and the slow burn romance is keeping me gagged 😍

I didn't know how the author was going to top the first book, but oh my does this sequel deliver! We get deeper lore to Oren and Sage, as well as the world in general (Baba Yaga?!) as well as the romance which is simmering and I can't wait for them to admit their feelings to each other properly!

P remains my favourite character and I'm glad that she is getting the page recognition - I'm also anticipating a romance for her as well.

I never want this series to end!

All The Hidden Monsters was an unexpected favourite book of mine for 2024, so I was delighted to have the chance to read the sequel, and I will start by saying this - All the Lost Souls was everything I came to love in the first book, plus so much more.
I adore all of these characters- Sage and Oren's chemistry is so much fun to read, and everyone needs a friend like P. 🥹
There is no messing around and the action starts straight away, with a potential dilemma thrown in very early on, that has the potential to change everything for one person. (Doing my best to avoid spoilers but I *loved* this and the difficult position it put certain other characters in!)
I loved the French mountain setting, seeing a whole other part of the supernatural world away from Downside, and the secluded, eerie vibe I got straight away with the tensions between the two rival groups, as well as meeting so many new faces and seeing how Sage and Oren fitted in and sussed everyone out.
It was so fun to see how everything all knitted together so perfectly, and there was another twist that I completely didn't see coming - I genuinely gasped reading it.
A brilliant sequel - witches, werewolves, romance and found family, whilst still keeping me desperate to see the mystery solved - what more could you want from a supernatural novel?! An emotional rollercoaster, and I cannot wait to see what Amie has in store for book 3!

It’s been a while since the events of book one, where we saw limits tested, secrets unfolded and fights leave Sage on the brink of death—saved by Oren’s magic. Now, the unlikely group of friends, Sage, Oren, P, lived together, united even tighter by the loss and destruction they’d faced. But not everyone is happy with the time Sage and Oren spend together, namely his boss, finding their investigative partnership laughable, questioning her strength. That, and the newly unsettling way pieces of a mysterious puzzle of Sage’s wolf form are brought up, how it’s uniquely harnessed in ways that shouldn’t be possible, the thought haunting Oren’s thoughts. Still, the two are sent on a new mission to test their limits and strengths—to the Jura Mountains to investigate a looming tension between the witches and werewolves.

Sage is determined to prove people wrong, throwing herself into solving the bewildering case of dark, old magic causing mayhem for the witches and werewolves. Oren wants to solve it, too, all the while always looking out for Sage (who he has found himself kissing more than once…) their connection—likely the reason they are being thrown into a dangerous situation—just as powerful. Sage finds the werewolf packs eye-opening and some more welcoming than others, though taken aback by the sheer formidable fright of the witches who want no part in helping find the cause for the growing deaths and loss of crops in the area. Meanwhile, back in the Downside, P, Berion, and Hozier are running their own investigation into Sage’s werewolf origins, unveiling their own tangled branches of mystery. But in the Jura Mountains, a dangerous fog threatens to wipe out everything in it’s path, and if Sage and Oren don’t crack the case, it might just get them, too.

Overall, All The Lost Souls was entrancing and truly spellbinding, the feeling of coming home to familiar, cosy characters strong throughout. The slow-burn romance (that was once enemies-to-lovers) comes alive during the book, and I found myself pulling for Sage and Oren’s connection to continue flourishing. There were so many moments where my romance-loving heart beat for their shared glances and Parisian trips. New for this story, we were welcomed with a POV from P herself! I loved getting the glimmers of the Downside through her POV whilst the mystery unfolded in Oren and Sage’s POVs in France, giving a rooted balance of what I loved about All The Hidden Monsters whilst gifting us something new and tantalising. Amie’s writing has fully blossomed with the unravelling of the deeper lore and worlds of this bookish universe created around Sage, and I just cannot wait to continue this series. It’s one I’ll be recommending for life. Bring on All The Cursed Creatures next year!

A magical mystery with grit, heart, and a hidden world you can easily get lost in.

3.5⭐️

Ok, so I’m being generous here — and honestly, this rating is very much a me thing. I went in not realizing this was book two in a series, and these are definitely not loose stand-alones. You can catch up because the author gives enough context on the magic system, world structure, and character history, but I still felt like I was missing emotional groundwork from book one.

That said, there is a lot here that works really well.

The world-building is creative, atmospheric, and genuinely fun — I loved the paranormal procedural vibe where magic meets investigation. The Downside setting has this gritty, hidden-world energy, and the supernatural tensions add great stakes. The found-family connections were heart-warming, the romantic threads added softness without overwhelming the plot, and I really enjoyed the multi-POV structure. It gives the story movement and lets the emotional beats and supernatural elements breathe.

Pacing-wise, it’s steady with bursts of action, and the magic system is layered but accessible once you settle into it. There’s a nice blend of mystery, danger, and character-driven moments that create a unique reading experience.

On the flip side, because I didn’t read book one first, I never fully connected with the characters on the emotional level I wanted. It’s clear the deeper character work lands in book one, so jumping in here meant I was engaged — but not fully tied to their arcs.

Overall, if you enjoy fantasy mysteries with found family, magical investigation vibes, and layered world-building, this series has a ton to offer. I definitely recommend starting with book one to get the full emotional impact — I think my experience would’ve been stronger if I had.

For readers who love a blend of magic, mystery, found family, and a world that reveals itself one secret at a time.

I was fortunate to receive a complimentary eARC from Scholastic via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to share my voluntary thoughts.

How I Rate
Because I mostly read ARCs, I focus on how I think fellow readers with similar tastes will respond. I sometimes round up or down based on pacing, prose, or overall impact, and I try to keep my personal preferences from weighing too heavily.

⭐️ 1 Star – Finished, but not for me as it has way too many issues; I never DNF ARCs but would have had it not been one.
⭐️⭐️ 2 Stars – Struggled due to writing, content, or editing issues.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 Stars – Decent read with untapped potential; recommend with some reservations.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars – Really enjoyed it and would recommend for several reasons.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Exceptional; lingers in my mind well after reading. A story I’d gladly revisit.

In All The Lost Souls, Arnie and Amie Jordan take us deeper into their supernatural crime world, pulling us from Downside’s gritty shadows to the eerie isolation of the Jura Mountains.

The result? A story that’s colder, quieter and far more haunted.

Sage and Oren, our superb duo, two agents with electric chemistry and a connection they’re not supposed to indulge are sent into a tension-laced powder keg between witches and werewolves.

What starts as political babysitting quickly turns into a chilling descent into arcane horrors.

There’s a fog. It kills. There are souls. They’re lost. And there’s old magic here, whispering through the woods and clawing out of the past.

If Book 1 was a gritty supernatural procedural, Book 2 is its ethereal twin, quieter but no less deadly, steeped in folklore and dread.

What I Loved:
* Witch covens and werewolf colonies—two cultures caught in a centuries-old feud, both deeply realised.
* Unfolding mystery with a slow-burn pace, drawing tension not from action, but from unease.
* Ghosts of the past—literal and metaphorical—challenging Sage and Oren in ways they didn’t expect.
* Atmosphere so thick, it’s practically a character. Cold winds, ancient woods, and a fog that feels sentient.
* Emotional layering—the case might be deadly, but it’s Sage and Oren’s forbidden connection that cuts deepest.

This isn’t a wham-bam thriller, it’s a slow, eerie walk into a storm you can't see coming.

All The Lost Souls builds not just on the plot of its predecessor, but on its emotional stakes. The magic is dangerous, the setting otherworldly, and the bond between the leads? Tense, restrained, and beautifully painful.

A powerful second entry that expands the world while narrowing the focus. Think The X-Files with a gothic soul and a dash of The Witcher's grit.

Another great book from Amie Jordan!
Amie Jordan is an absolute genius at weaving everything together. You think you have the plot all figured out and then a plot twist comes along to spin your head off your shoulders!
Speaking of the plot it had me hooked right from the get go. I blew through this book in a day because I NEEDED to know what was happening!!
I love how the romance between Sage and Oren was upped in this book, it was one of the things I had a real gripe with the last book and it was gorgeous to see the tension and yearning and jealousy finally come to the surface, especially from Oren!
I love how we've seen Oren wear down from being that cold individual with so many walls up to finally admitting he doesn't need to be lonely. And it was nice to see it not just done from Sage, the love interest, but from his new found family too.
Sage is such an unbelievably loving FMC who is deeply loyal to those she loves. She's a joy to have as a protagonist as we get to hear the struggle she's having with herself and her wolf, I hope in future installments she comes to love her wolf!
It was nice to have chapters from P's point of view that was a fresh perspective on everything that was happening!
My only problem which took a star off for me was when our main love interests finally had their kiss it just felt really lack luster. It happened and was finished like 0.2 seconds later. I know this book is YA but I've read a lot of YA and they still can have passionate kissing scenes. Hopefully these will come in the next books.
Overall really loved the story and the characters and can't wait for the next book!

A petty grievance between witches and werewolves in the Jura Mountains is rising into something dangerous. They have requested Arcānum assistance, and Sage has been assigned to this impossible task. But with the shame and embarrassment of her past pushing down on her, she has more to prove now than ever. Oren refuses to let her go alone. Sage and Oren are sent to investigate the rising tensions between witches and werewolves in the Jura Mountains. This case seems like punishment for their undeniable connection. But neither expects to find traces of old magic, tortured lost souls and a deadly fog that kills everything it touches.

In this compelling book filled with twists and treachery. Sage and Oren weave their way through new secrets and greater mystery. The author has written a novel that combines mystery and fantasy. I didn’t get a chance to read the first book in this trilogy. I didn’t find it making it hard to become involved with the characters and plot. It’s a good novel to read.

Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

Fantastic! Following on from the gripping first book.. All The Hidden Monsters, All The Lost Souls does not disappoint. The dynamic between the main characters Sage and Oren further develops and the plot line introduces a different setting away from Downside, Manchester where the first book is concentrated. This time Sage and Oren are in the French mountains with feuding werewolf packs and witch covens! Some great world building here. Characters in their group circle make an appearance.. Berion, Hozier and and the most brilliant brilliant poltergeist P has a part to play .. great stuff. Couldn’t put it down! The ending to this one is such that you can almost not bear the wait.. can’t wait for the third book to see how it all turns out. It’s a dilemma of a plot line for the characters. Great and well worth a read for sure!

Excellent, excellent, excellent! A fabulous follow on from All the Hidden Monsters book 1. Couldn’t put it down and now eagerly awaiting the third book to see what happens.. don’t know how it can resolve itself this plot but suspect will be as good as these first two book plot lines. Really well written, well done, author, Amie Jordan. If you’re looking for a good read, then read book 1, All The Hidden Monsters, then this one.. great stuff!

Started and finished date - 02.09.25 to 05.09.25.
My rating - Three Stars.
I really like is book and I did enjoy parts of book, but I didn't love it also I think people who like now, conjurers by Freddie Kölsch or big demon energy by Deborah Wilde may like is book. The cover of book was simple but stunning. The writing was fine, and the writing was easy to follow also the ending was okay.

Both the atmosphere and the mystery was fine, but I would like it to be flash out bit more also the world building was okay. The paced of plot was well structured and steady paced. I like most of the characters, but I think they need to flash out bit more.

This book carries on from where book 1 ended and our main characters Oren and Sage have a new case.
Again this book has a perfect mix of fantasy and mystery. A lot of the focus is on friendships and family.

This is the second book featuring werewolf, Sage, and warlock, Oren, as they shift about the supernatural world solving mysteries on behalf of the Arcanum. Sent to mediate a dispute between werewolves and witches in the Jura Mountains, Sage and Oren encounter a dangerous black fog that threatens the very existence of everyone who lives there. Surrounded by secrets and mistrust, they soon discover they need help from their friends back home, and not just to solve the mystery in the mountains. They're both suffering from the trauma of their last case, and it will take their own pack of found family to help them through.

Compelling, twisty, and clever, and with a crackling romance, this is now my favourite YA series.

OH MY GODDDDD I LOVE THIS BOOK SERIES SO MUCHHHHHHH I NEED THE NEXT ONE NOWWW AGGGHHHH!!!! I absolutely devoured this book, I adore Jordan’s writing style. I enjoyed the development of the characters and their relationships, their personalities, dynamics and descriptions make me feel like I have met each and every one. I found the world building really interesting and the incorporation of various cultures through the presence of their supernatural beliefs was really cool. I liked the change in perspectives from Sage to Oren to P, I thought it really adds to the overall experience of the reader.
Also Sage + Oren… omg. Like wow, just wow. I love them so much.
I’ve not read a book that has made me want to cry, laugh, giggle and kick my feet as much as this one did.
I thought the story was really interesting and I definitely did not expect the ending but I loved it nonetheless. Also I was right about the Sage’s wolf being different thing lol…

I have really enjoyed both books in this series (so far).

If you know book 1, I’d say highlights in book 2 (another genre-blending delight) for me were:
-P’s arc.
-Oren and Sage’s will they, won’t they moments
-the mythologies of the mountains
-the amazing final act when all the threads come together and a unexpected hero is called upon
- the freshness of moving the action in this book far away from an urban setting

If you haven’t read this series yet, pick it up- you won’t regret it.

It was an okay read, I felt it was a much slower burner than the first book and I found it really hard going and confusing to follow

Brilliant. A fast paced, high tension page turner with all the characters I loved in the first book.
Fabulous setting, great twist, and the promise try of lots more to come. Well done Amie Jordan.
