Although an interesting story in some aspects, there was so much repetition in this book that it became utterly predictable. Although the author shows promise as a writer, they also felt the need to explain everything - more than once - as if the reader could not make any deductions themselves. The characters seemed to serve no further purpose than to solve the mystery the author had created - making them feel one-dimensional and not characters I truly divested in. It felt a bit like reading an action movie - with events reported at break-neck speed, instead of a natural unfolding of the story. The author also felt the need to repeatedly remind us of the occupations of each character - which became extremely irritating and repetitive. The story also felt too convenient - that the exact characters, with exactly the right skills, at exactly the right time, are all present in order to unravel the mystery. It didn't feel organic at all, but rather, extremely contrived.

A story full of twists and turns!

This was an interesting mystery-thriller. The villain had all the prerequisites for a deeply flawed but extremely intelligent mastermind. Meg was interesting from the very beginning. The author didn't fall for the age old trope where law enforcement treat civilians as stupid and in the way. A side character I fell in love with was Eleanor. Very well written. When she suffered, I felt it deeply as a reader. Well done! The reason for the four stars is the teasers that were never resolved such as infiltrators who were never exposed. A love interest is casually mentioned in the Epilogue but there was no hint of it before. I instantly wished to know more. Maybe something to be built on in a second book. Fingers crossed.

A Deadly Cat-and-Mouse Game

Insurance investigator Meg Sawyer's attempt to nurse her broken heart at a peaceful beach house backfires spectacularly when her curiosity leads her down a dangerous rabbit hole.

What begins with a strange distress signal spotted on satellite imagery quickly spirals into a high-stakes mystery that nobody asked her to solve – except maybe her own restless investigator's mind.

Enter the mysterious Alex Reeves, who brings exactly the kind of complicated energy a woman trying to recover from heartbreak doesn't need – yet can't seem to resist.

With its perfect blend of beachside setting, unexpected romance, and deadly stakes, "Nowhere To Hide" delivers a thriller that proves sometimes the most dangerous vacation souvenir isn't a sunburn...

Meg visits a friend’s cabin to take a break after her divorce. Passionate about photography, she searches for places to explore and unexpectedly comes across a message on a roof while browsing online. This discovery piques her curiosity and leads her to investigate further. I truly enjoyed the book; the intrigue, suspense, fear, and heartbreak experienced by Eleanor kept me eager to find out more. The way the plot developed, along with the various characters involved in unraveling the mystery and preventing disaster, made it so engaging that I read the entire book in one sitting.

Thank you to HiddenGems for providing me with an advance copy. I’m leaving this honest review voluntarily.

This is a new author, and I thought it sounded interesting when I saw the ARC offered by Hidden Gems. It is the story of Meg Sawyer, an insurance investigator who has just gone through a painful divorce and decides to spend time at her friend’s beach house. While exploring the area, she discovers a Help Me sign on the roof of a cabin in the area. From there, the story takes off about abductions, criminal activities, and past murders. Overall, it was a good story, but this author could use an editor to cut down some parts of the book.
