YEP. SHE SURE STICKS IN A MAN’S MIND

The new multi-author series, Gun For Hire, is sweet Westerns with romance. It is men who live by their guns—never knowing if this is their last day on earth. They are loners, guns-for-hire, cleaning up the evil, having a reputation as some of the fastest guns in the West. Life changes when they meet the right woman, one who can see past the harshness he faces and gives him hope for a future.

In April 1866, near Lost Spring, Kansas, Outlaw and gang leader Carl Edwards led the pack to rob another stagecoach. When those working the line and inside the coach started shooting back, Edwards killed them all, including an unarmed young woman. While Clint McGuire didn’t participate in the gunning down of these people, he rode with Edwards, and knew what they did was breaking the law—and he needed to get away and start a new life. He gets hired on as the shotgun for the Express Stage and Mail line and has been with them for ten years. Now, Clint wants a different life, one with a wife and children. The sheriff of Valduska, Kansas, offers him a deputy position that he decides to accept.

Schoolteacher, Ophelia ‘Lea’ Walcott, is all alone in the world. She has lost both her parents and her only sibling, her brother. After the death of her mother, she will sell the family home and move into the apartment over the bakery, run by her best friend, Joanna ‘Jo’ Mason. Ophelia will be looking at her upstairs window when she hears a loud commotion in the street and sees the men riding hard down the street—the leader will see her and will stare at her as he leaves. Lea will go to the sheriff, alert him that she saw at least one of the men’s faces, and he will have her look through wanted posters.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. When the last stagecoach arrives in town, it will have Clint coming back to town to become a deputy. They had a group of riders try to waylay the stagecoach, but with Clint and the new shotgun rider, Max, they prevented it from happening and killed two of the bandits. Clint and Lea had briefly, casually met before, and he couldn’t get her out of his mind, but Lea was just as infatuated with him as he was with her. It won’t be long before the new deputy finds himself rescuing cats from trees, learning about people in town, and making sure one father sober up and becomes accountable for his daughter, Lillybeth. When the Edwards gang makes another appearance, they learn what they are after, and the people of Valduska rally around one another to prevent a robbery.

I liked Clint and Lea together, and think that they made a sweet couple. I liked that he was honest and willing to pay the price to prevent the Edwards Gang from destroying more lives. The story is very well written and a pleasure to read.

I enjoyed this book and will recommend it as another wonderful tale of Gun For Hire. I cared for both main characters, their story and am very satisfied with the ending. JudyE
