An impressive Yale degree. Great friends. An even greater boyfriend and a bright future- Ariana Berkley thought she had it all. She thought her life was perfect. She should have thought twice.
Hundreds of lies and a single confrontation changed everything she thought she knew. It crushed her both physically and emotionally and shattered her confidence of herself, men and love.
Broken, scarred and still hurting, all Ari wants to do is get away and take some time to put herself back together again. With the help of her roommate and her new friends, maybe Ari can accomplish stitching her heart up with friendship and polishing it with laughter.
And maybe, just maybe, with time she can let go of the past, heal her broken heart and unbreak her trust just enough to risk it once more.

In September of 2014, she published her first novel Unbreak Me. It’s the first book in her Always Only You series. A series of sweet, funny and heartbreaking books about loss, friendship, love and finding happiness. EJ resides in Lexington Kentucky, with her two amazing sons. When she’s not writing she enjoys designing book covers, reading, boating and of course spending time with her family.
absolutely brilliant I loved this book it was such a heartbreaking, heart warming story of love, loss, family and friends. from the first page I loved Ari and couldn't believe at only a two chapters in I was crying. I just really felt for Ari and her situation and as much as we should hate Kyle once we read his letter you can feel your heartbreaking and how much he loves Ari. Caleb Caleb Caleb tut tut tut what a man, loved him from that first phone call and even though a few times I wanted to kick him up the ass I couldn't hate him, I loved the banter and closeness that develops between Caleb and Ari, how sweet is It that the notebook is their film and Caleb picked! major boyfriend brownie points :) watch out book boyfriends Caleb Carter shouldn't be underestimated :). I so want me personally meet the "elite eight" a group of hot males all different but all smoking hot!! ouch! I absolutely loved Jake and Tessa what a pair! and Aiden we all need us an Aiden around cannot wait to read his and callie s story, as we know them just not deeply as this was Caleb and Ariana story. I'm not normally a fan of authors writing the same "scene" twice but from different views so like we get Ariana view of events then we get the same events but from Caleb`s point of view normally it would it annoy me but the author really made it work and I loved reading it from both views,it helps in the case of the Aiden and Caleb situation and some might think that Ariana is a tease but see how Ari feels we know she isn't nasty and isn't using Aiden she generally wanted friendship and hoped for maybe more in the future as she thought she didn't stand a chance with Caleb. this will go into my favourite pile as I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next book :)
I'm so happy for have received an ARC of this book, it is so good. The story, the characters, evrything was perfect for me. This a story of discovering love, for Ari, love again, and for Caleb, let the love enter in his heart. The story begins with a tragic event for Ari, I feel so sorry for her, but in life bad things happened. After a period of suffering, she decided start again, and it is when she met Caleb... He is cousin of one of her best's friend.
Caleb is a very good friend for Ari and he helped her a lot, what he couldn't see at first is that in reality Ari is helping him a lot too... They developed a great friendship but also they started to have feelings for each other, but is possible for Ari llove again, and more important is possible Caleb love and being loved? Caleb's friends and Ari's friends are a plus in this book, they really are that good, and I expect to read more about them. Great job E J Logan!!
I'm having a hard time rating this one. The beginning of this book had my stomach in my throat and started off really promising. Then it kind of turned into the typical romance...wealthy guy, older, doesn't do relationships or bring women to his bed but whores around. I wish it focused on Ari (h) more and her hardships. Don't get me wrong there were parts I loved about this book too. So I'm going to start with the good and end with the things that bothered me. Let me start by writing a little about it.
After graduating from Yale with a degree in architecture Ari is headed home. She can't wait to get home and see her long time boyfriend Kyle. Kyle and Ari have known each other since they were ten and have been a couple since they were sixteen. The long distance relationship has been hard on them both, but more so Kyle. When Ari receives a call at the airport before she boards everything changes.
A year has past and Ari is ready to move out of her moms and get a job in San Francisco doing something with the degree she attained. Before she knows it she lands a job, and a place to stay.
Caleb (H) has had a very emotional upbringing and finds himself too afraid to love. So instead he sleeps around and won't let anyone in. Caleb is a gorgeous architect who just so happens to be one of her best friends cousins and her new roommate. Right away there is a mutual attraction and flirtation between the two of them. Caleb decides not to let it go past friendship and warns Ari off. They soon become close friends...but will their feelings get in the way? And will they be able to help heal the other?
Okay, the first few chapters of this book I loved, everything that happened between Kyle and Ari was well written and I really felt the emotion. I do wish we would have gotten a glimpse of little things that year she was living at home to connect with her more emotionally. I loved Ari and Caleb's phone conversations and their initial meeting. I felt that immediate attraction they had for each other...and oh how I felt for Ari when she would see him with another girl. I really loved Tess and thought she was fun and a great friend; Aiden as well, he was well written and a pretty stand up guy. I found myself rooting for him at first.
I was a little confused how Tess and Jake's relationship was written in the book. It almost felt to me like I was missing something and I checked to make sure there wasn't a book about them first. I loved them as a couple I just felt like Ari was recapping their story from another book. Now I like cocky H's but not over the top cocky more of a subtle cocky I guess, so to me Caleb became a little too full of himself.
Caleb: "I think every girl in the place had their eyes on us. Who could blame them when that many good looking guys walked in at once. I was used to it though, this happened anytime we went out together."
I know this is fiction, but when do you see eight drop dead model gorgeous men together? And it seemed every guy Ari came across was ridiculously hot.
I was also starting to think that these are twenty eight year old men acting like a bunch of twenty one year olds so when Ari states, "I swear they act like a bunch of college kids. I mean some of the guys were nearing thirty." I was really happy the author wrote that in. I thought Tess was a much better friend than Callie was. Callie wasn't even honest or up front with Ari about Aiden which I thought was pretty shitty. The epilogue with the whole added drama of Dan I thought should have just been a chapter and then the epilogue should of wrapped up their story.
I thought this was a good debut novel, there were editing errors throughout but that usually doesn't sway me one way or another. I guess I just wanted to connect with both the H and h more. I won't rate this because I truly do not know what to rate it. I didn't dislike the book and I read it in a day but I couldn't love it. And I won't bring down a rating because of my opinion.
*I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review*
After reading the blurb I was excited to make a start. Wow! What a start it was. I was on the edge of my seat, quite literally speechless after only ten minutes of reading.
A series of revelations, events and consequences leave the heroine with a heavy burden to bear on her shoulder's. I couldn't even imagine being in her position. Not only having to live with what happened to her, but also to have to live with 'his' subsequent action...It's gut wrenching really.
I must admit, I was a little worried moving forward. It was going to go either one of two ways for me; an emotionally dark roller coaster which would have no doubt left me with a book hangover, or a satisfying journey of self discovery and determination. Much to my delight it was definitely the latter.
Ari, although she wasn't without her faults, was great. As damaged as she was, her determination to not let her past define who she was, her strength and ability to push forward was admirable. She had an amazing support system; great friendships, family to hold her up, and a fiercely protective roommate ;)
I loved Caleb, admittedly he was frustrating at times, but he had a certain vulnerability about him that had me rooting for him regardless. Can I just say... Eight hotties, all close friends... Um can I get an invite to the next party! Damn!
There were some very... Complicated relationships going on that at times gave me a little whiplash. It could have been a cluster F waiting to happen, but I think the author handled it nicely. Bravo for that. In fact I think all of the delicate situations were handled well!
Friendship played a huge part in this book and it was refreshing to read a book with such a huge pool of friends.
Loved the epilogue, although I'm not sure what the point of the dose of drama was? I can only assume it might come up again in a future book.
Looking forward to reading Aiden and Callie's book. I loved Aiden!
The book was littered with lots of little errors, particularly the first half. Incorrect punctuation, wrong words which I can only assume was the result of an autocorrect feature? But it did get better towards the end.
Overall, I really did enjoy the story of Ari and Caleb and their journey towards healing and happiness. With a good edit, it would definitely have made a solid four stars from me.
Unbreak Me, by EJ Logan is one of those amazing books you will read it one sitting, but then as soon as your done you wish you has slowed down and made it last! The books starts out with one of the main characters Ariana waiting to go home from college to meet her long term boyfriend and high school sweet heart Kyle. This is the only man she has ever loved. Unfortunately what he does to her will break her in a way that most people couldn’t recover from. Ari being strong women, does her best to recover from all the trauma that Kyle put her through. It’s during this recovery process that she moves away from her childhood home and safety net, she finds a roommate and gets a job in the field she loves. She hopes her roommate Caleb will help her move on and get over what Kyle had broken in her because Caleb is the first guy that Ari feels comfortable with since Kyle. She hopes that being close to Caleb will be just what she needs to get over her traumatic past and start trusting men again. Can he be the close male friend she needs? Will Caleb be able to unbreak this woman? A woman that he falls for more and more every day. Will she be able to break down the walls that he has made around his heart to protect it the way he was taught to? Or will she walk away and find someone else? I don’t think I can express enough what a great story this is! I absolutely LOVED it! Within the first 15 pages I was hooked and there was no putting this book down. I stayed up until 2am just to keep reading. This book has everything you could look for in a romance book. There is an amazing story line, and some steamy sex senses. The characters are so likable, and relatable, there are times while reading that I caught myself holding my breath or trying to read faster just to see what happens because I got so emotional involved in their story. I hadn’t read anything by EJ Logan, but after reading this book I have become one of her biggest fans! I can’t what to see what happens in the next book in the series! If you only read one romance book this week, month or even year, this is the one to read!
I was provded with a copy of this book to give an honest review...
This story follows Ari, who experiences something that no one ever should, trying to pick up the pieces of her broken life she moves to San Francisco to pursue her dream job in the world of architects! Hoping she would be able to live with her college room mate Tess, this doesn't quite pan out, but when Tess' cousin offers up a room at his house rent free, she gives it a go!
Caleb has never had a relationship due to the influence of his father, but after just one phone call from someone he has never met he offers her a room in his house, breaking all his rules! He just had to get close to her.
Not only are the main characters well written but the other characters are fantastic, I love the group dynamic between them all!
I don't wanna say too much and give away this story, but I really enjoyed if from start to finish! Some of the one liners had me laughing out loud getting very odd looks from the people on the train! There were parts where I was getting frustrated hoping that they would both get their act together, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it! I know this is part of a series and we get to see a bit more of the the other 'elite eight' but would love to hear more from Ari and Caleb!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed the easy read and the characters. The drama was filled with sexual tension that had me wanting to keep turning the page. I wish there was more build up to the attraction rather than insta-lust but I enjoyed it still. His urgency to not want more and pull away was futile and I think as the reader you new what was up but I wish the reasoning behind it was not just clumped towards the end into one big delivery. I wish there was more of a build up in finding out what his issues really were. Dan's interference came out of left field and really didn't hold much interest for me. If anything I wished Brent's or Aiden's interest was used to build conflict more. Brent's final reveal was entertaining to me and I loved the humility it brought to the situation and the time wasted. Overall I enjoyed this book and the characters and look forward to more from this author.
I read this book in it's draft stages and loved it. It helps that I was picturing the male lead, Caleb, as Channing Tatum and he hit the sweet spot for mix of playful and masculine. His character infuriated me sometimes, but he had his reasons for being so resistent and the tension created between the two, Caleb and Ari, kept me up reading!
The main character, Ari, is a heroine you can relate to and admire. The novel starts with an incident that traumatizes her, and she struggles with issues caused by it throughout. But she has great friends and family for support and builds a friendship with Caleb that also helps. As their relationship heats up it becomes apparent that Ari may be able to help Caleb as well.
This is E.J. Logan's first published book and I would recommend it to all New Adult Romance fans. I, for one, will be awaiting her next published novel!
Hot romance great weekend read. This romance is sweet, spicy, and sensual. You will add a new book boyfriend to the list. This is a stand alone so you get the whole story in this one book. There is just the right amount of flesh. This is a very good book so enjoy!
*****Thank you for gifting me a copy of this book for a fair and honest review*****
This is definitely a 5***** read for me. After receiving a copy of this book, I started to think to myself, this sounds familiar. In fact, I had read this story before as BETA for book 2. Why didn't I leave a review before, I'm not sure! Well, I reread the story and fell in love all over again.
Ariana has just graduated and can't wait to get home and spend the rest of her life with her boyfriend Kyle, who she left back at home. Thinking now that she has finished school they will begin their lives together because they had remained solid thought the years. While waiting for her flight she receives a call from him that turns her world upside down. Needing time to think about the phone call, she gets on her flight and contemplates how she is going to deal with situation. When she finally arrives home, devastated, she learns that things are alot worse than what she thought. After a tragic incident happens Ari is left broken and fearing love. In a need to move on with her life she decides to accept a job as a PA and move to a different city with her college roommate, Callie. She soon learns that Callie has moved in with her boyfriend, but the room with her cousin is available. Feeling a little insecure, she contacts him and they automatically hit it off, even though she is still hesitant. After a few conversations she feels comfortable with the situation and decides to take the chance.
Caleb is Callie's cousin. He is a handsome successful architect, that doesn't do relationships. He is broken by events that happened early in his life and can't seem to know how or want to love someone. One-night stands are his thing. With a room available Callie tells him about her friend Ari and that she is looking for a place to live. Filling him in briefly about what she has been through he skeptically calls her and enjoys their conversations and looks forward to her moving in.
Now is where the story really begins. Ari moves in and Caleb is taken back at how beautiful she is. Knowing that she has trust issues he tries to make her feel as comfortable as possible. After talking a little more he soon realizes that she is his new PA, added bonus. Knowing he shouldn't over-step his boundaries with her, he can't help but be the flirt he has always been.
This book had me crying, heart-broken, laughing, swooning as I was fanning myself, and cheering for a HEA for Ari and Caleb. Both of them have been broken deeply. Can they find a way to heal each other enough to get to a happily ever after. You will have to read their journey to see where it will go. Even after reading this for a second time, I couldn't just skim through. I loved it once, I now even love it more! Thank you EJ Logan for giving me this opportunity to reread an awesome story!
Unbreak Me is a fun and fairly fast-paced, modern day love story with likable characters, ones who had realistic thoughts and emotions.
Ari's story started with a unexpected, brutal opening, without any backstory or any real precursor to the situation … which would have been completely fine if, in the aftermath of what happened, Ari had an emotionally charged and dramatic response to it. I wanted so much to connect with her on this, to feel her pain, but unfortunately, her reaction never really hit the level of emotion I needed in order for me to sympathize with her. Because I didn't get the impression that Ari was truly 'broken' it was hard to understand the need to 'unbreak' her, and it kept me from fully commiserating with her character.
What I loved most about Unbreak Me was the conversations. They were great — humorous and witty, and I could easily imagine them happening. I also enjoyed the dramatic sexual tension between Caleb and Ari.
Though I liked the story, sadly, it suffered from technical problems: grammatical and otherwise, which were distracting — and can easily be resolved with a thorough re-editing. I have been in contact with the author about these issues.
Overall, I think this is a good first effort from EJ Logan, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
Unfortunately this book was just not for me. I had a very hard time connecting to the characters, I didn't feel they were very realistic. Ari was actually my favourite character out of everyone. I thought she was strong in trying to overcome her fears. This is something I did enjoy, I like seeing strong heroines grow. However, Caleb just wasn't the hero for me. I didn't enjoy his point of view. I found he was too stereotypical and didn't have many redeeming qualities. I felt the rest of the characters didn't act their age, it felt more of a 19- 21 age range, rather then 25-28. This being said, although there were some editing errors, the writing was good and I like the pace of it. It was an easy read, had some funny moments and I liked the setting. The beginning chapters were very heart wrenching and brought out many emotions in me. Although this wasn't for me, it might be for others.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Well honestly....I had a hard time putting this book down!It has been several books past since I have come across a book that I was 100% immersed into like I wad this one. I cried in the beginning because Ari's start in this book was just so damn sad that I couldn't not cry. The story was pretty predictable but that is ok. I still loved it nonetheless. The book does need a little re-editing however. Other then that I thought the writing was good and the plot worked well, and I enjoyed the characters. Overall a pretty great read!
I really liked this book and the story behind the characters. Caleb and Ari seem to really have a connection and help eachother work through some pretty major issues in their lives. There were a lot of sweet moments and ones where you want to smack some sense into one or both of them. I can really say few follow on novels would be great, with the "Elite Eight" I am sure there are a few fun stories ahead. Now the wait for Callie and Aiden!
There were some parts that seemed rushed or not fully developed. I felt that way in the very beginning, but an glad I took the time to get into the story.
but seriously I was beginning to really get tired of waiting for these two to get their stuff together. Then they got together and it lasted for a minute before we go through a two month separation. again I was getting really annoyed with these two.
anyway all's well in the end. nothing outstanding. the characters ages didn't ring true for me. they really seemed on the immature side to me. if they would have been in college I might have felt them to be more believable.
Read/review for the author for a honest opinion (new adult book club)
An "AMAZING" story just loved it. Couldn't put it down from the first page wanted more at the end. It went from heartbreaking to sweet, spicy and heartwarming. I'm looking forward to reading more in the Always Only You series and more by this author. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance.
i liked the story, the characters, and E.J Logan writting style. the relation between Ari and Caleb is beautiful. After the tragedy, Ari deserve this love story. Just a little "bémol" (fail), the fact that Caleb can easily touch Ari is a little bit astonishing. Can wait to read a new book from E.J Logan, it was a great moment
I really loved this book!! I thought it was kinda slow in the beginning but then I got sucked right in. The writing is great and the plot folds out perfectly. I highly recommend it to all who are looking for something to read like love at first sight!
This is a good story, plain and simple. This story could be made better with significant editing and minor tweaking in terms of passage of time, but is still a good story. I need to say that first and foremost because my observations below may not reflect this opinion. I like the characters so well that I wish the second book was completed so that I could continue to read about the other characters' stories (this assumes a second book would be edited significantly better than this first book).
This review will remain spoiler-free. This review is an assessment of the author's presentation of her story, not a critique of the story itself. The story itself is a good story. The presentation is where I find this book needs work. If, in reading this review, you are interested in a story summary, please refer to the book blurb or the writings of other reviewers.
I received this book from the author when I volunteered to read it in exchange for a review through Goodreads.com. The cover photo and layout caught my attention. The book blurb lured me in closer and I couldn't help but want to read this new adult contemporary romance despite a mere 3 reviews on Amazon and 7 reviews on Goodreads (I presume there is overlap between the two). I tend to shy away from books with so few reviews because there are too many well-crafted "finished" books available for me to use my precious few reading hours on books not already "tested" by others or not cleaned up by the author and/or an editor. When I volunteer to beta-read or read an ARC, I know that the said story is not fully polished and my expectations regarding consistencies, grammar, punctuation, story line flow and character development are lowered -- that is simply the nature of beta-reading or an ARC book.
While this book is neither stated as being in beta condition or ARC version, it is my opinion that this is not ready for readers because of the hundreds (yes, hundreds) of punctuation and grammatical errors. Indeed, there are times when fragmented sentences and run on sentences are appropriate to communicate the emotion or mood of a scene or scenes of the story. I do not believe, though, this is appropriate for nearly each and every page of a book. This story is significantly flawed by the rampant misuse and absence of commas, apostrophes, semicolons and even periods (sometimes compound sentences simply need to be broken into two or more sentences). There are a number of missing end quotes, misused pronouns and wrong words that forcefully pull the reader out of the story in order to reread the sentence(s) or passage to "fix" in the mind what was not written properly on the page. I am sorry to say that this caused me to remove two stars. I can guess that the author, other readers and potential readers will conclude that I am being overly harsh. The writing errors were so distracting and pulled me out of the story on nearly every page. I cannot honestly rate this as better than "it was ok", the description Goodreads associates to a two-star rating. In comparison, Amazon's rating system assigns three stars to "It's okay". So, that is how I have rated this book on these two sites.
Putting the extensive writing flaws aside, I feel the story could be made better with minor tweaking of the timeline in two ways. First, by providing more information about the "gap" year, the reader can better believe Ari's lingering concern with men. Second, by lengthening the time frame within which our Hero and heroine develop their relationship, the reader can better believe that He and She have truly made a soul connection to last a lifetime.
The opening chapter was fantastic in capturing the readers' attention and connecting the reader to the heroine, Ari. Despite being the naive age of 21, Ari comes across as intelligent, honest, and real. Once we are brought past this opener, this traumatic event, we jump in time by a year. This is an opportunity that the author did not take advantage of. I agree with another reviewer that this would be the perfect place in the story to reinforce to the reader how this traumatic event did indeed alter Ari's ability to be near men. Use this time to give Ari actions to support words. Instead, Ari and two of her closest friends declare her skittishness in a few sentences, but Ari's actions do not reinstate this understandable fear created by the traumatic event. Sometimes, whether in the real world or in a biblio-world, a person can make a statement and it is believable. Other times, the proffered statement is not believed because of contradictory actions. This is the case here; the author has Ari behave an a manner contradictory to what the reader is expected to believe. With two of the first three men she meets, she is remarkably, surprisingly not skittish. To the third (the best friend's boyfriend), she stiffens upon meeting when she shouldn't because of her love for, faith in and trust in this best friend and her judgment.
The other timing issue relates to the primary action of the story. The relationship that develops between the He and the She takes place in one month, with two months of abstinence due to misunderstanding/miscommunication. This timing is simply does not sound plausible with two educated, independent, intelligent characters. If the timing simply must be condensed, with raw unharnessed lustful emotions driving some scenes and nurturing moments deepening the relationship in other scenes, then at the minimum swap the time -- two months to develop the relationship and one month of abstinence. As it stands, these twenty-somethings, to this reader, are not convincingly driven by thoughtful consideration, but, instead, my really strong lustful emotions.
In an age when publishing and self-publishing books is barrier free, if an author wishes to make a career of story-telling, they need to "finish" their story -- spend time to edit, to clear the flaws, to fix the details, polish it to a gleaming shine. You wouldn't purchase a new car with scuffs, scrapes and scratches on the paint job, smoke infused into the fabric, missing side or rear view mirrors, or the wrong sized tires appropriate for the car. Indeed, the car may be a perfectly functioning machine, but the details, the selling points, are off and you will most likely move on to another option, another car. That analogy works with books, too. You may lure some readers, but a writing career cannot be made without a mastery use of your tool -- language. True, some readers may buy your first book, but they probably won't consider your next book or books if the writing is this marred.
1 Star I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. The first chapter captures how excited she was to see her boyfriend (long distance relationship), the incident when they meet and the subsequent tragedy where her life is changed considerably. However after that chunks of time disappear and I don’t engage with her experiences. I liked the characters and their banter but with all the grammatical and spelling errors, I was critiquing the writing more than I was enjoying the story. I noticed the writing from the different perspectives was very repetitive and I often reread dialogue from both characters as the writing switched between perspectives without much added to the story.
Book was a little unrealistic to me, in some of the aspects how it everything rolled together. Just think it was a little far fetched how quickly she'd move in with the guy, and then how they didn't piece together that he was going to be her boss very fast. Just a little too cutesy for me in that way. The hardships Ari went through before were heartbreaking, and I think added depth to her character that I appreciate.
But I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others for a good story. Just not exactly what I normally enjoy.
This is such an amazing book. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Caleb and Ari have a lot of issues to work out. He is a womanizer where she has only had one boyfriend, and that didn't turn out so well. Read this book to find out what happens with them. I didn't want to put this book down.
