I’ve read books that make you rethink AI—this one transformed the way I talk about it. Artificial Stupelligence begins as an entertaining dive into AI, but by Chapter 7, it becomes a practical guide for understanding and discussing it.
Lynn Raebsamen has a unique ability to balance wit and wisdom, using metaphors that not only explain AI but also equip you with the language to discuss it confidently and clearly. I’ve found myself referencing this book more than any other I’ve read this year—at work, with friends, and even during a tech support chat, when I caught myself thinking, “That’s some classic stupelligence right there!”
What I find most compelling about this book is its structure. It starts off each topic with humor and levity, then pulls back the curtain on how AI really works, and leaves you questioning whether we’re already living in a Black Mirror episode. Take, for instance, the 'Mandatory Cat Video Act of 2026' line — it hit me with such absurdity I almost did a spit-take with my morning coffee. Later, I realized: if something like the Flash Crash could happen, is this really so outlandish?
Through it all, Lynn perfectly captures this moment in tech: the hype, the missteps, and the near-misses dressed up as revolutions. Artificial Stupelligence does more than simply unpack the mechanics of AI; it offers a critical lens through which to examine how it’s subtly transforming everything—even when it often feels like it’s changing nothing at all.
An enjoyable read for both newcomers intrigued by AI’s potential, and for those of us who’ve come dangerously close to losing our sanity after battling with an AI agent.
TL;DR: Five stars. Witty, insightful, refreshingly human.
