Highland Revenge Trilogy #2

Intrigued by a Highlander

Rate this book
It was a simple mission… until it wasn’t.

Knox is a man of few words, and what little there is to tell, he keeps to himself. Sold to mercenaries at the age of eight, his life has been nothing but a cycle of relentless battles and endless training. Women have always been within his reach, drawn to his striking looks, yet none have ever truly held his interest. All he seeks is a small piece of land to live out his days in peace. It’s a simple dream, but one that feels impossible… until an unexpected proposal changes everything.

To earn the land he so desperately craves, Knox must find Lord Torrance’s elusive half-sister, Autumn, and bring her to him. The task seems straightforward enough for a seasoned warrior, and once it’s done, he’ll have a place to call home. But what starts as a simple mission quickly becomes much more complicated.

When his search leads him to Clan MacLeish, Knox seeks the help of Dru, a cunning thief with a reputation for knowing everyone’s secrets. Their paths cross in an unexpected—and rather inconvenient—situation, forcing Knox into a hasty marriage with the petite and sharp-witted woman. Desperate to be free of their union, Dru agrees to a bargain… help him find Autumn, and in return, Knox will release her from the marriage.

As they set out on their dangerous journey, it becomes clear they’re being hunted, with a deadly foe stalking their every move. Together, Knox’s strength and Dru’s indomitable spirit see them through the mounting dangers. But as Knox repeatedly saves Dru from her own bold decisions, they both realize that love has quietly bloomed between them.

When a shocking secret is finally revealed, it threatens their future together, posing a danger more perilous than they ever imagined.

Accidental marriage + Stoic warrior + Clever FMC = Expectations set high. The math mostly worked… just not explosively.

Let’s start with the good, because there is good. Knox is peak stoic Highland MMC: emotionally locked down, trauma-shaped, obsessed with the idea of land and peace, and absolutely convinced he does not want love (sir, sure). His backstory is genuinely heavy and gives real weight to his restraint, and I appreciated that his growth felt earned rather than rushed. Dru was also a standout for me: clever, resourceful, sharp-witted, and refreshingly capable. I loved that she survives on her intelligence rather than brute strength, and their dynamic once they’re forced together had some genuinely enjoyable tension and banter.

The accidental marriage + bargain setup is where the book really comes alive. Once that happens, the story picks up, the chemistry starts simmering, and the emotional stakes finally begin to matter. The slow-to-medium burn worked overall, and when Knox starts softening (just a little), it hits.

That said… the pacing is doing a lot of heavy lifting early on. The first chunk is very setup-driven and leans hard into Knox’s internal stoicism, which made the beginning feel slower than it needed to be. I also wanted just a bit more emotional depth on the page, some moments felt like they could have gone deeper or lingered longer instead of moving on too quickly. The romance is solid, but it didn’t fully tip into “obsessed” territory for me, and the payoff, while satisfying, didn’t quite match the buildup I was hoping for.

Overall, this was an enjoyable Highland romance with a strong MMC, a smart FMC, and a trope combo I’ll never say no to - it just didn’t completely blow me away. Worth the read if you like stoic warriors, forced marriage chaos, and slow-burn emotional thawing…just don’t expect maximum angst devastation.

Due to a misunderstanding, Dru found herself married to an infamous mercenary, Knox, who was tasked to find Lord Torrance's half-sister, Autumn. Wanting to dissolve the marriage, Dru agreed to help him find her. As their search continued, they started caring for each other and slowly fell in love. But as their search for Autumn continued, it led them to a deadlier foe, thirsty for revenge against his clan and a secret that protected Autumn from a gruesome fate.

Intrigued by a Highlander is the second book of the Highland Revenge Trilogy by Donna Fletcher that takes us on a journey of finding love in unexpected places. Dru and Knox have different backgrounds. Dru, having experienced familial love but lost it when tragedy hit her life. Knox, on the other hand, steeled his heart to survive the life he was forced to live. Their unexpected union rediscovered lost and buried feelings within themselves, teaching them what love truly means.

I like Dru. Her form of defense against bigger and physically stronger opponents than her is refreshing from other heroines Donna has written. Dru knows her vulnerabilities and weaknesses but finds ways to get out of difficult situations. Her strength is her strong personality and kindness, making sure she helps those who really need it.

Knox's past didn't stop him from remaining a good person despite the hardships he faced as a boy. He is a fierce warrior but has a good moral character, so he didn't hesitate to agree to a marriage that he didn't want initially. The pair's dynamics complement each other, even though it shows in subtle ways. It makes them an unlikely pairing at first glance, but you can see how well they work together as the story unfolds.

The appearance of Lord Torrance is a nice change. Donna often mentions the next male or female MC of the next installment, but they are often just talked about and not an active participant. A glimpse of Torrance has me intrigued and looking forward to the next book.

But all in all, this story is heartwarming yet action packed that would have you looking forward with every turn of the page.

Intrigued by a Highlander by Donna Fletcher
Highland Revenge Book Two
Knox is a warrior, a mercenary. Yet, the offer of getting his own land is too enticing not to find the half-sister or Lord Torrance. He’ll need the help of a woman he’s heard about. She’s known to have information, so he’s depending on her help to find this unknown woman, who no one even knows what she looks like. He has to succeed.
Dru has done all she can to keep herself invisible since her mother’s death. Being alone, she keeps herself dirty and smelly to keep men away as she travels alone. If not for needing to clean up before Dru could stay at the abbey, her life wouldn’t have changed drastically. She’d heard a mercenary was looking for Autumn; she didn’t expect to run into him while bathing in the loch.
An intriguing story as this colossal man and a waif of a woman get thrown together on this adventure while she helps him find information. Unique twists and turns.

This historical romance follows Knox, a battle-hardened warrior seeking revenge and a peaceful life, and Dru, a sharp-witted thief with a hidden past. Their paths cross unexpectedly, leading to a hasty marriage and a perilous journey filled with danger and unexpected emotions.

Knox is a man of few words, driven by a quest for vengeance and a desire for peace. Dru, on the other hand, is a cunning and resourceful woman with a mysterious background. The forced marriage between Knox and Dru sets the stage for a slow-burning romance, with both characters grappling with their growing feelings amidst the chaos. Their journey is fraught with danger, as they are pursued by a relentless foe, testing their trust and survival instincts. The story delves into themes of trust, revenge, and the possibility of love amidst turmoil, offering readers a rich emotional experience.

Marriage, Secrets, Trust, One Great Complex and Delightful Love Story.
Wow, make yourself comfortable for this story had me captured until the very end.
Talk about an unusual mystery love story that has so many complications for Knox, a giant of a man and a scrawny brave wisp of a gal named Dru:that had my heart pounding so many times at their shocking and courageous decisions.
So much undaunting fear, so much strength in both characters, it was like being on an emotional roller coaster ride.
My thoughts, the threats, the shocks, the battles just kept coming one after another.
This is the second book of the series, and I truly enjoyed the happy rewarding ending to a great in-depth story.
⭐The cover is awesome.
💖Favorite character: Mave the healer seer.

Absolutely a great plot with many twists and turns, lots of evil guys intent on doing harm. There is also a hero that will make the reader swoon and a heroine that is strong, likable and gets herself into lots of trouble. Donna Fletcher knows her highlanders and has such a talent for making her reader fall in love with each one she writes about. Her highlanders are strong men who love strong and fight strong to rid the land of all sorts of evil and help the ones who are in trouble. The reader can’t help but fall in with love Knox and Dru and will definitely be excited for their happy ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Forced togetherness.

Knox is a mercenary hired to find a lairds half sister Autumn. His search has taught him that he must find Dru first to help in his search for Autumn. Dru is known for her gift of getting information. She is also known for her offensive smell which is deliberate in order to protect herself from men. A chance encounter in a pond at an abbey puts Dru and Knox in a delicate situation that requires they marry immediately. Now forced to work together, their relationship begins to change from one of hostility to one of comfort and trust. But Dru has secrets and more than one person who wants her caught.

I received an ARC of this book. My opinions are my own.. First off I love all Donna Fletcher’s books. This one was no exception. I loved the characters and the storyline. It was a slow burn with an average steam level. The main characters really seemed to care about each other. I am looking forward to the next book. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

I really like Dru and Knox story….beginning to end!!! Personally, I am not a fan of spoilers, so I will limit what I will say. Dru’s strong personality we were introduced to in the first book remains, while love is blossoming between her and Knox. Wish we learned more about Mave (lol).

Oh man, so good. I just love a good Scottish historical romance novel, and Donna Fletcher does great Scottish historical romance novels. And this book is certainly no different. I really enjoyed Dru and Knox's story. Dru's quite the spitfire, especially for women in that day and age. She's got brains and a very quick, and sarcastic tongue. She's also a little bit of a thing who's got the heart, and bravery, of a man the size of her unwitting husband.
As for Knox, well he might be a mighty, and feared warrior, but he's also a big ole teddy bear at times, and I love that about him. I also like the way he is with Dru and her wild ways.
Like a lot of Donna's books, this one has a lot going for it. Action and adventure. Sweetness and a bit of spicy. Loving and tender moments. Laughs and moments of sadness. Mystery and intrigue. And the beautiful historic Scottish Highlands.
It's definitely worth a re-read and let me tell you I can't wait for the final book in the trilogy, which is due to come out *hopefully* in August.
