In the aftermath of a string of mystical murders that rocked her small seaside haven, Wendy Lightower is glad to have her life back to normal. Except that with her own witchy powers and an uncle in the paranormal investigations business, "normal" is a word that doesn't really apply. Her previous role in uncovering a killer aside, Wendy is determined to stay out of the investigation game for good. However, her family and friends have other ideas. When her best friend disappears while working in the local magic store, Wendy will use all her resources, mundane and magical alike, to find her.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This seemed a lot slower paced than the first book in the series, which made it boring at times. Despite that, I did find myself enjoying it. I do wish Wendy would have made a different decision at the end though.
I really enjoyed the second book in the Wendy Lightower series. I have to say that I preferred this one to the first one, because I didn't find it near as predictable and I think it flowed much nicer than the last. I love Wendy's relationship with her best friend Magda - it seems like a very genuine, realistic friendship. I also really enjoy the chemistry between Wendy and Ian, they are so precious (at least in my head). The plot and mystery were not near as predictable as I thought it would be. It may not have been the greatest mystery ever, but it kept me reading to find out who the killer and kidnapper was. I look forward to reading the third book when it comes out later in 2015! Emily Rylands is a great author. I would definitely recommend the Wendy Lightower Mystery series to anyone looking for a cute, cozy, witchy mystery.
Librarian and witch Wendy Lightower is involved in another mystery when her friend Magda is kidnapped. The danger and drama is brought close to home with Wendy when she contacts her friend and realizes the very real threat to her life. More magic, small town politics, the investigations business, and a bit of romance play a part in this second book of the series.
Light reading, but good. The only thing I wish was different (and that's in a lot of other writers' mysteries as well) is that the heroine Always ends up going it alone, by herself, to "save the day". I don't think anyone is that stupid Every Single Time...so please find another way to complete the mystery.
In my opinion this was even better than the first book. I'm happy with the way Wendy's story is headed. If the next book is this good, then the author has a fan for life. A quick read that just flies by. I can't wait for number three.
Book 2 in the Wendy Lightower series and did not disappoint!! Really great series I would recommend to anyone who wants to unwind and read a book that keeps you interested and ready for more!!
This is an interesting series. The characters are fairly believable. Wendy is a little too naive, but she came across better in this book than in the first book.
Only a girl from Northern California could entertain another NC girl with such a delightful read. Can't wait to start the next book. Thanks for the great read!
