"C minor carried melancholy as if she were the reaper herself. Her dark resonance lingered in the air like a shadow stretching at dusk. The notes pressed against the strings with hushed intensity. The low, brooding C string hummed with sorrow, while the higher tones carried a whisper of something unresolved—grief, longing, or maybe even the echo of a distant storm. When played softly, she felt like a secret confession. When drawn out with force, she wailed with a raw, aching beauty.
The violin was a woman. No one could tell me otherwise."
Piper Hermès, the youngest of the Hermès siblings, has spent her life carrying the weight of loss and longing. Now, on a journey to reclaim herself, she collides with a man who sees her with a clarity she's never known—a dangerous clarity. But in a world where darkness moves in shadows she barely understands, he is public enemy number one. Told through a tapestry of lush prose and intimate poetry, Piper must navigate a labyrinth of love, betrayal, and loyalty — where every step closer to her heart's desire risks leading her further from everything she thought she could trust. In the second installment of the Hermès Family series, the line between salvation and ruin is as fine—and as breakable—as a violin’s string.
It took me forever to read this book😩 It wasn't that long and the story was engaging so I am sure I was the problem.
That said I really love the poetic way Ms. Anderson wrote the story. It was descriptive, but felt like it flowed like music. Her writing is different than most books I've read and I enjoyed it.
In this story we get Pretty Piper's story, the baby sister of Prime. She too is a musician; a masterful violinist that blends hip hop and classical music. We previously learned about her trash husband and we get to experience her moving forward and claiming new love. Piper and Denim were forbidden from the start. Who her family was and who he was clashed When I tell you this ish was heavily layered and complicated!!! The way the connections were threaded and the drama that kept bubbling up, Chile I was tired for them.
Denim was a Detective. I wouldn't say he blindly bled blue, but he was loyal to those around him and desired to upkeep the law. When he found himself entangled with a beautiful woman with questionable family ties he didn't know how to handle it. You could literally both feel and picture the turmoil he felt. One thing for sure it was clear he loved Piper.
I was left with one question when did her divorce finalize and how was the ex handled?? Besides that I enjoyed the story, and I can't wait to read Pierre's story.
I thought I loved Prime's book, but this here! 🔥 Piper was quiet and unassuming, but she was a Hermes and could get down with the best of them. Meeting Denim was unexpected, with immediate chemistry. However, as soon as they began to fan the fire, all hell breaks loose. I went back and forth multiple times as to who the culprit could be and was still wrong. 😂
Denim was like a dog with a bone and found every angle possible to solve his case. What is Prodigy up to? Seems that he may be pulling strings to get Denim on his side. Hmmm..... Looking forward to Pierre's story, as I have a feeling there is more drama to come. Damn good read! 👍🏿👍🏿
Rae Anderson nailed it again! Piper Hermès is this super complex character dealing with some heavy family stuff. She meets this mysterious guy named Denim, and things get intense fast. Their connection is like a wild rollercoaster of passion and danger.
The story dives deep into Piper’s emotional world, showing how love and pain can get totally tangled up. She’s trying to figure out her life while dealing with some serious baggage from her past.
This book is the second in the Hermès Family series, and it’s seriously good. Anderson writes in this awesome way that just hits you right in the feels. The whole story is like a delicate dance between hope and heartbreak. Definitely a five-star read that’ll keep you hooked from start to finish.
The Violinist follows two people from opposite sides of the tracks—a police officer and a talented violinist from a family tied to crime. She’s unaware that he’s investigating her family, and when the truth comes out, their love goes up in flames. Can they find their way back to each other? An engaging, emotional read with romance and tension throughout.
This author is new to me. I started with book one and couldn't put it down. Full of mystery and shock it was good to the very end. I can't wait for book 3. I'm sure we haven't seen anything yet that will come to Pierre.
Going into this book, I expected it to be a continuation of Winter and Prime’s love story. I definitely wasn’t disappointed once the story got going. I could tell once she found out who Denim was, she was going to have a war within herself of whether to choose her heart or choose her family. Especially when she has always chosen her family.
I definitely want to get more into Rae Anderson’s catalog after reading this series.
Ok. I’ll be honest. Was not a fan of the Hermes sister. Like sis did NOT care about anybody but herself. Didn’t care about the blowback of her actions or anything.
Like ma’am get some situational awareness cause she was seriously lacking.
It’s good things worked in the end but still she was naive. This MMC had to grow on me. I was not a fan of him for the bulk of the book.
I will say thanks for the artist recommendation with Damien Escobar.
