The world ended in a solar storm, burning the sky and frying the grid, leaving humanity to claw its way through the dark. Georgianna Harris and her friend Ana carved out a fragile existence in the ruins of the Twin Cities, trading medicine for survival, deciding who gets to live another day. Mercy is a luxury they can’t afford.

Then he appears—bloodied, broken, and impossibly familiar. David Andrews was just a nameless John Doe in a hospital bed before the blackout. Now, he’s awake, battle-scarred, and just as lost in this new world as she is. Their uneasy alliance is built on necessity, but the heat between them is something far more dangerous.

Winter is closing in. Factions are at war. George’s family is caught in the crossfire, and David’s past is creeping in like a shadow. In a world where love is a risk and survival is never guaranteed, they have a choice: trust each other, or let the darkness win?

Perfect for fans of Station Eleven, The Last of Us, The Book of the Unnamed Midwife, and The Light We Lost.

"The world had gone quiet, but silence didn’t mean survival. If anything, it meant the opposite.... survival was a fragile, fleeting thing." (Ch 1)

Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian Romance

A story of individuals coming together in a post-apocalypitic world. A romance that sort of (ish...) started in the life before, and it has a possible chance of playing out in this new life. They feel their way through, find comfort, friendship, hatred, and healing... and more in each other.

"For all the suffering and cruelty that still gnawed at the world outside, they had kept each other from being swallowed by it. They were a family. An awkward, ungainly, mismatched family." (Ch 11)

But not without darkness, a little bittersweetness, and danger.

And pasts that still haunt them and hold them back.

They'll have to do things they wouldn't have imagined doing before all of this came about. But they have to do what needs to be done, morality aside, to survive and to live... And to protect what is theirs.

Oh, I did not like how much Ana passively aggressively guilt tripped George! And then that shocking ask! Like WTheck! I get it, she was still carrying the pain and the resentment, but what kind of friend is she that she would ask that and also still harbor such resentment after all that time for something that wasn't even George’s fault. Seems toxic to me. Ugh. It's not right.

George and David’s relationship was sweet(ish). But got to wonder how much you actually know about a person who you see day in, day out. What lies are they telling, what secrets are they hiding, and if, by chance, they have an alter ego...

"He could live with her secrets. Because she could never live with his." (Ch 13)

It was a surprising read! Unexpected. Part thriller, part romance, wholly a game of survival.

description

The Last Light of Home by Sophia Luxe is a fictional story that blends mystery, love, and tragedy.

This book isn’t just a science-fictional story; it’s about what happens when everything falls apart, and how people change when survival is all that matters.

The book really shows how a pandemic messes with people’s minds. It makes you stop trusting others. The life you knew disappears fast. And just trying to stay alive can turn even good people cold inside.

I loved how Georgianna remained a bold character throughout the story. She wasn’t just strong, she was smart. The contagious disease made it hard for her to stay soft and naive for a long time. Throughout the story, she didn’t hope for the best, but she planned for the worst.

“Even in the dark, there is hope.”

But what makes her different from others isn’t just her toughness; it’s the cracks beneath. The way she remembers being softer, the guilt she buries under practicality, and the quiet moments where she wonders if surviving is even worth what she’s lost.

Besides, the character development was intriguing. The writer did a great job of writing a post-apocalyptic book, highlighting the facts that the world faces during such a time.

What makes the book unforgettable is the quiet, burning intensity of Georgianna and John Dae’s love. It’s not loud, but it’s the kind of love that survives in silence.

The way they showed affection and gratitude is a reminder for readers that love always finds a way to survive.

Sophia’s writing style is straightforward, making it accessible to a wide range of readers. The tone and pace of everything were smooth.

In the Last Light of Home solar flares and plague have ravaged Earth leaving survivors struggling in a post apocalyptic world.

Georgianna Harris a nurse and her colleague Ana survive by bartering their medical skills for favors or goods.

Georgianna often thinks of the John Doe who had been brought into her medical center one day, comatose and never claimed, and is surprised when David that same man from the time before is brought to her with a bad infection from wounds suffered after an attack by thieves.

This slow-burn romance was an entertaining, nicely written story of love and survival filled with drama, emotion, struggles, personal vulnerability, and passion.

I enjoyed these characters who were well crafted and set within a story whose journey was at times dark, and painful, but with hope, and perseverance were able to survive and fight for another day, and each other. HEA

This story had me hooked from the moment we find out that David was George's patient. What she did for him as a nurse was admirable and I loved how this love story got started. Knowing he thought he was dreaming her while in a comma... so sweet!! Then he finds her again and protects her, and is there for her, understands her and cares for her like no one else. There were a few things that weren't super clear regarding George's brother and her "political standing" withing the town but otherwise, the story was super interesting. I love a dystopian romance and this was a good one.

This book was stellar. I love dystopian everything, but this book seemed to hit me differently. I wrote a quote or two from the book down as I read ( emotions galore!) and have already used the phrases in reality. There's not a single thing more I could ask for in this, other than another book! Pick this up! You'll love it! Thank you for letting me read your book!
