Those familiar with Peter Haggard’s previous book, Insects of the Pacific Northwest, will not be surprised that this book about native gardening has a lot of information about and wonderful photographs of various insects. Peter and his wife Judy converted a former cow pasture into a small endemic woodland and their food garden of vegetables and fruit trees. The book provides advice on designing and establishing an environmentally sustainable garden, recognizing garden allies versus competitors, and maintaining the garden in environmentally responsible ways. It also shows the authors’ pure enjoyment of the natural world. Hopefully that joy is infectious.
