A guarded wallflower. A charming viscount with a past. Can their fragile bond withstand a treasure hunt filled with secrets and a cunning rival’s schemes?
After five failed seasons and one humiliating heartbreak, Jane Talbot has accepted her fate as a spinster. She agrees to attend Lord Sperrin’s country house party to escape society’s scrutiny, but the promise of discovering the legendary jewel of Parcathia adds unexpected intrigue and draws her into the path of the far too charming Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway.
Henry wears a smiling mask for society while grieving his father and bearing the burden of his duty. As the hunt for the jewel unfolds and he finds himself repeatedly in the company of the overlooked Miss Talbot, her quiet wit and warmth begin to break through his defenses. Could he finally have found a woman who sees beyond his title?
As they unravel clues amidst whispered secrets and lies, a rival emerges with both the jewel and Jane in his sights. With danger looming and love on the line, will Jane and Henry find the courage to claim the greatest treasure of all?
A Spinster for the Viscount is a clean regency romance. It's clear Killelea put a lot of effort into researching the time period. Henry was so sweet, Aunt Agatha was great, and the setting is written well. Gerald is hoot, and I enjoyed the scenes he was in. The villains are easy to hate, and it was quite satisfying to read about their fate. Sensitive readers should note a man tries to force himself upon a woman (he doesn't get too far), a woman is slapped, and a kidnapping and some injuries occur.
*I received a copy of this book for promotional purposes from the publisher in conjunction with CelebrateLit. All opinions expressed are my own.
Great characters with a fun plot! An exciting romance that kept me on my toes from beginning to end. With a hidden jewel to be found among all the guest brings deception and greed. This is an exciting read with action upon every page. So hard to put down, I read in one sitting late into the night. This story left me wanting more!
Great characters Entertaining story Needs more faith scenes and content for my liking. Some Bible verses and definitely more prayers! It's not really a Christian fiction book until close to the end. But the Faith content in there is good.
This is the third book in the series but they don’t need to be read in order. Jane has recently had her heart broken and is invited to a house party/jewel hunt. There she meets Henry, who wants to help her find the things that bring her joy again. Henry is a Viscount and is grieving his father. When Henry and Jane spend time together they quickly form a friendship. And then more romantic feelings of course. Jane is hesitant to love again after what happened with the previous man. But things get more complicated when that man suddenly shows up at the party and is interested in her. I really liked this story! I always enjoy house parties and the treasure hunt was added fun. Henry and Jane are such a cute couple. Henry is the sweetest. The author added in a bit of danger and villians to the story too. There is great Christian content. Overall a great story and I recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Jane Talbot, a resilient wallflower, and Henry Lendin, a charming viscount, form a delightful slow-burn romance while navigating a treasure hunt at a lively house party. Killelea’s vivid Regency setting and witty dialogue shine, with memorable characters like Aunt Agnes and the mischievous macaw Gerald adding charm.
There were just enough quirky and fun elements alongside alongside the more serious and darker ending. However, I did find this one slower than the other books in the series and it didn’t always hold my interest.
Still, the story’s blend of mystery, Christian themes of trust, and a satisfying conclusion makes it a rewarding read.
The plot was well done; there is humor, friendship, and adventures mixed with danger, suspense and mystery. Jane was a likable character, although I felt she kept her feelings for Henry hidden too much and ignored them. Henry was a fun, mischievous man with a protective nature when it comes to Jane. Their friendship turns quickly to more for him, while Jane’s feelings show up later.
The story was a little slow in the beginning but, toward the middle and ending, there was more action and danger. There is a sweet happy ending for them in the epilogue. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.
Oh my goodness. I wasn't sure if I could possibly love the third book as much as I had the first two, but I truly think it was the absolute best yet!!!
Jane is so endearing, and it was easy to relate to her as a wallflower who had been overlooked. It would, of course, be easy to become bitter, but she has Laurence, who has taken time to spend with her, and it seems as though she might get her love match after all...
I dare you not to fall in love with Gerald! He might just be the most fun character in the book.
I read historic romance because I love history, fashion, and, of course, a great romance. The descriptions of the men's attire were so thorough that I truly wanted over and over for this to be a movie.
Not sure a clean romance is worthy of a movie?!? Just wait until you get to the last 20 - 30 percent of the story. The drama, the ending, it was simply thrilling.
I highly recommend this the third of the "Spinster" series. I truly hope more are to come.
The main character of this novel, Jane, calls to mind two others by that name: Jane Austin and Jane Eyre. If you like books similar to these Janes, this one should appeal to you. Readers can’t help but feel sympathy for the spinster Jane, whose parents want to get her married—however no gentlemen have shown sincere interest in the dear young woman. A lengthy house party offers the opportunity for her to mix with other nobility and the chance to find a hidden jewel. Suspense and intrigue thwart Jane’s efforts to make a proper match. Then the plot twists unexpectedly and throws her and the reader for a loop. We root for her to find someone who truly cares about her and values her as a person and that those who only seek her dowry get their just due. It’s interesting to see what life was like for the upper class in those days and to see if Jane can find true love. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
A Spinster for the Viscount by Jackie Killelea is a Christian Historical Romance, It is the third book in the Saving the Spinsters series. Can a guarded wallflower and a charming viscount create a lasting bond together? Five failed seasons combined with a humiliating heartbreak leads to Jane Talbot settling on being a spinster. She agrees to attend Lord Sperrin’s house party only to escape society’s scrutiny. The promise of discovering the legendary jewel of Parcathia adds excitement and draws her into the path of the far too charming Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway.
Henry bears the burden of his duty and wears a smile all while grieving his father. As the hunt for the jewel takes shape, he finds himself repeatedly in the company of the overlooked but eventually captivating, Jane. The two unravel clues, deal with Jane’s rival, and other dangerous individuals, the two begin to develop feelings for each other.
Truly this book will capture your heart and your imagination with the excellent storyline and well-developed characters. Once I began reading, I found myself unable to put this book down.
So if you enjoy Christian Historical Romances, check out A Spinster for the Viscount by Jackie Killelea, and the rest of the Saving the Spinsters series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
A Spinster for the Viscount is a clean inspirational historical regency romance novel by Jackie Killelea. It is the third book in the Saving the Spinsters where each woman for one reason or another marriage has eluded them. This story is the most fun of the three so far with a treasure hunt. Marriage is not the goal but a jewel. It is difficult for women today to understand the need of the “seasons” with the goal of marriage as if that is a woman’s only worth. It was great in this story for Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway to see Jane as an equal in the hunt then as a friend. Deception and rivalry add to the suspense of this story, throwing these two disillusioned characters together more and more. My favorite of this series so far.
Both sweetness and suspense are scattered throughout this story of an English country house party in the year 1817. Jane Talbot is not looking forward to being part of this gathering, especially since English society has not always been kind to her. Five failed seasons in London, plus a recently failed romance, has taken a toll on her self esteem. As she gets to know Viscount Henry Lendin, he offers to help her find joy in life again. But as the two draw closer together, events begin to happen to drive them apart and put Jane in danger. I liked the way that the author allowed the sweetness of the relationship to grow between Henry and Jane, but also let the suspense build slowly throughout the storyline. They were both persons of integrity and courage, and I was cheering for them to find their happily-ever-after. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
This is a delightful tale with plenty of excitement. Fancy a house party with a scavenger hunt - to find a rather priceless jewel. Jane is recovering from a broken heart and Aunt Agnes is ready to help her find a husband, whether she feels deserving or not. A number of viable options are included in this group. Will one of these men be considered worthy to save the spinster and will the jewel be found? Time will tell with a few adventures on the way.
An early copy of Saving the Spinsters Book 3 was received through Wild Heart Books and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Allow yourself to be transported back to a simpler time of clear lines between right and wrong. Simple pleasures ruled the day and love was the grail sought by those who understood its importance. This novel essentially took over my everyday life until it was completed.
Many thanks to the author for this wonderful excursion.
Regency halls glitter with grandeur and murmur with intrigue, yet in this tale the brightest light shines through faith and love. In A Spinster for the Viscount, Jackie Killelea delivers a captivating Regency narrative where a jeweled contest, secret motives, and whispered rivalries become the backdrop for trust, healing, and devotion that endures.
Jane Talbot stands as a heroine of quiet strength, dismissed by many, yet steady in character and conviction. At a country house gathering designed for spectacle, she finds herself drawn into a world of riddles, schemes, and hidden prizes. Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway, wears charm laced with sorrow, and as their paths entwine, a bond emerges that is tender, honest, and richly human.
The contest stirs both intrigue and danger, propelling the narrative with tension and anticipation. Faith moves through these pages like a steady current, reminding the reader that worth is secure in God’s eyes, that courage carries eternal weight, and that love grounded in Him outshines every earthly jewel.
The supporting cast adds dimension and warmth, from mischievous guests to memorable relatives, while the 1817 English countryside brims with vivid atmosphere. Killelea’s prose flows with heart and conviction, shaping a novel that entertains even as it nourishes the spirit.
A Spinster for the Viscount is more than a tale of riddles and rivalry. It becomes an invitation to discover lasting riches: trust, faith, and love that cannot fade.
This book will bless readers who delight in Regency romance alive with adventure, filled with characters worth cherishing, and strengthened by a faith that makes every page glow.
I received a digital version of this book from the author and Celebrate Lit Publicity Group. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. A well-paced intriguing regency gem with heartbreak, new relationships, danger, deception, and vicious competition at a treasure hunting house party for riches and matches!!!
Miss Jane Talbot is a sweet girl that has lost her parents loving relationship and personal interests due to the all-consuming effort to find her a match in London. After 5 seasons of being a wallflower, she had a brief glimmer of hope in the time spent with Mr. Revil this season. Mr. Revil casually rejects her while marking her deficiencies and naivety to reach for a future Baron leaving her humiliated. She and her aunt get invited to a house party which serves as a timely distraction to her dispirited self-regard. The big enticement of which is the guests are invited to find a a treasure hidden on the grounds. The notes containing clues are being delivered daily, feeding the competition for the prized jewel, the lighthearted country diversion becomes a sinister pursuit. Desperation and determination make the tension and danger teeter with the endearing relationships and sweet adventures. When Lord Lendin is introduced to a charming guest he is intrigued by her and her inability to name a single enjoyable recreation. He offers to assist her in rediscovering the joys she has forgotten as means to become fast friends and make the duration of the treasure hunting house party more enjoyable. When dangerous guests threaten her safety, he is determined to protect her and gain her regard if her past that arrived doesn't succeed in rekindling her former feelings for him.
A nice clean romance awaits readers in this easy to read story. I liked the adventure that was set for visitors at a house party. This is no ordinary party though when hints are delivered about a jewel that could be found. The pressure is on for the lovely Miss Jane Talbot as she has been to many parties over the last five years. Will she find a husband soon? Jane seems very confident and doesn’t let whispers spread about her lack of marriage bother her.
Henry is sought after for his place in society and good looks. He is willing to team up with Jane to hunt for the jewel that is hidden. What a fun adventure this would be to go on a treasure hunt. Not everyone is excited about this pair teaming up though. Henry finds it easy to be himself around Jane and begins to open up a little about his past.
The story delivers laughter and a fun mystery as our main characters start to enjoy each other’s company. June has this calmness about her that sets Henry at ease. They work together well as their friendship slowly develops. Will they uncover the mystery before their competitors do?
The action really starts when rumors of the jewel being found is spread. Several unexpected events happen which puts Jane in danger. I didn’t expect the plot behind someone trying to get rid of Jane. Greed and jealousy fill the ending as we witness how love conquers all.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
"A Spinster for the Viscount "by author Jackie Killelea was an absolute delight. This Christian historical, romance has a mystery that is multilayered. It is part of the Saving the Spinster series, book three, but it is easily read as a stand alone.
Set in 1817 in England’s scenic country, (just look at the cover) this is the story of Henry Lendin and Jane Talbot. Both have been invited to a house party and naturally gravitated toward each other. The hosts have hidden a valuable jewel nearby and leave clues to its whereabouts. There are schedules activities throughout the day with dancing for the evening. Jane is a jewel herself. I enjoyed her quirky Aunt Agnes a lot.
The author has penned a sweet story that unfolds at a nice pace. Her characters are lovable and easily relatable. The villains are dastardly. Descriptions will take you to the party itself and let you taste scrumptious strawberry tarts. Conversations sounded perfect for the place and era. I loved the activities the party guests often engaged in. There are some twists and turns, mystery, romances, but the Christian element was a bit low.
I highly recommend this jewel of a novel. It was definitely a page turner. I was extremely invested in the characters and story. Now I want to find the first two books and read them. It gets a 4 star rating from me. A complimentary copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest comments.
This was a fun regency romp of friendship and romance, a scavenger hunt and danger thrown in just to up the ante. Jane Talbot is a spinster, who has been made to come out for her fifth season. Not only that, but the man she thought was a true friend and one that would marry her, was only just using her. Now she is going with her aunt to a country house party, away from the London scene in hopes to start over.
Viscount Henry Lendin sees it is time for him to settle down with a wife. He has been invited to his friend's father's country estate, and he has high hopes he might meet a young woman there. Lo and behold he does, he meets Jane. They become fast friends, and Henry is falling in love with her, yet she seems to be a bit guarded.
There are others at the party who would like to make matches with Henry and Jane. They are not exactly the nicest people for them, and they certainly show that in their actions as they try to keep Henry and Jane apart. This is also a treasure hunt; some only want the treasure and will use anyone who they can get to help. The house party starts to turn into a dangerous place of intrigue.
This was another great addition to this series. I have been enjoying these spinsters meeting their matches.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
Christian Historic Romance is a favorite genre that I enjoy. A Spinster for the Viscount by Jackie Killelea is Book 3 in the Saving the Spinnisters Series. I have been enjoying this series from the beginning.
WOW, this book is just as AMAZING as the first 2 in this series. The setting is in England in 1817. The 2 main characters in this book are Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway and Jane Talbot. Henry and Jane meet at a party given by Lord Sperrin at his house. The house party involves a Scavenger Hunt for the legendary jewel of Parcathia. Henry and Jane are teamed up together for the Scavenger Hunt. The pair get to know each other through the course of the evening, which also included dancing. Jane and Henry both had thought they both wanted a life of being alone, no marriage. I really LOVE that Henry begins to open up to Jane about his past. Danger lurks and Henry Lendin protects Jane and they immediately really discover there is LOVE to be found for them both. The book is one of Trust, finding love in unexpected places, and mystery. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance from the Regency Era. AMAZING BOOK!
Henry Lendin and Jane Talbot would have liked to have been anywhere else but the house party that they find themselves attending. But, as fortune would have it, they met early in the visit and quickly find the enjoy being in each other’s company. I enjoyed the slower paced romance and the things they did together that included catching frogs and trying to outdo each other.
I felt the book was a bit disjointed since the house party in part was to find the jewel and keep it as a reward for locating it. I thought Henry and Jane would do more hunting than they did; it seemed the couple was more focused on their outings instead of looking very hard for the treasure.
This is part of the Saving the Spinster series, but it can be read as a standalone. The romance is such that readers from teens through adulthood could enjoy reading it.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in conjunction with CelebrateLit. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book was a fascinating regency era novel with all of the intrigue you could possibly want and some great romance to go with it!
Jane is such a relatable character, and I love how we get to see how she struggles with understanding her self-worth. I find it interesting seeing how she confronts obstacles and always makes her own decisions.
Henry was a sweetie. I loved how he truly tries to get to know Jane and always wants what is best for her. It is also cool how Jackie contrasts him with the rival love interests!!!
The parrot was my other favorite character (the strawberry scene was the BEST)!!!
Overall, this was a sweet, intriguing story. If you enjoy regency romances, you should give this book a try.
I received an advance copy of this book. My opinions are my own. A positive review was not required.
I thought this was a good book. I liked how Jane and Henry became friends and worked to find the jewel but also to help Jane discover joy again. I liked how both of them weren’t expecting to fall in love but found it in each other. I also liked how Jane helped Henry to not worry so much about the future and to just do the best he could as a viscount. I liked how they complimented each other and were perfect for each other. I thought this was a sweet romance.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This is the third book in Killelea’s Saving the Spinsters series. It’s a bit different from the first two books, but not in a bad way at all. I enjoyed it just as much. This time the two main characters are at the same house party. She is on her fifth season and has parents determined to find her a husband. He’s finally ready to find a bride. There are plenty of plot twists, of course, including a hilarious pet macaw named Gerald.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
" A Spinster for the Viscount "by Jackie Killelea was a fun read and kept me turning the pages. I really liked Aunt Agnes and Jane and Henry. There is plenty of humor on the pages. I know we aren't supposed to hate but the bad guys were easy to hate, and since the characters are fictional it is okay to hate them Right? I really felt for Jane as she struggles with understanding her self-worth. If you like Christian romances with a lit bit of suspense I recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celibate Lit and these opinions on my own.
I enjoyed reading this book. I found it to be well written and easy to read. I liked Jane's personality and watching her interact with Henry. Trying to solve the clues about the jewel was fun. I look forward to reading more books by Jackie Killelea.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review
Once again Jackie Killelea has taken me to a different time and place. The details of this adorable story of Jane the lovely spinster as she steals the heart of Viscount have relatable details that most everyone has experienced at some point of their life. As the story unfolds the characters learn to trust each other and their sweet love grows, making them stronger together.
Jane Talbot has had five failed seasons and knows she will be a spinster. Her parents are pressuring her to still seek a match and goes with her aunt to a house party where she meets the charming Henry Lendin, Viscount Harroway. These house parties are really something! The houses must have been huge because all the guests stay over for days, even weeks with their maids and such so I can't imagine the rooms they have! They have all these various activities during the days and nights too! The author did a great job of describing those activities. The big draw at this house party was find the legendary jewel of Parcathia. The guests get clues every day as to its whereabouts and are all trying to find it. Jane and Jenry team up to find it but they also do other activities together. I liked both the main characters. They were down to earth even though they were wealthy. Jane's aunt was fun too. However, the other guests were something else! The one problem I had was there were too many guests for me to keep track of and too many names! Between their titles and their actual names, I got lost a few times! Lots of twists and turns, danger and secrets which made for a good story though. I enjoyed it overall!
A romance worthy of Jane Austen ignites the pages of Jackie Killelea’s novel, A Spinster for the Viscount. The book opens with a poignant scene involving a baron’s daughter in her unsuccessful fifth season in London. Jane’s heart turns fragile as she is wounded by rejection and invisibility, forced to guard herself behind a wall of quiet dignity. Then she meets a man at a house party that she wasn’t expecting. Henry, a viscount, is a vision of gentle strength and embodies rare romanticism when he comes into the narrative seeking a wife to cherish, not a jewel to display.
An unexpected friendship between Jane and Henry underscores the societal pressure bearing down as their paths collide amidst the thrilling chaos of a scavenger hunt, the promised wealth of the precious jewel a tantalizing spark amidst the hushed anticipation. The fluttering romance, at first a vibrant spark igniting amidst enjoyable outings and shared interests, is reduced to embers as insecurities and doubts chill the air between Jane and Henry. Their relatable struggles, felt in the sharp sting of misunderstanding, outside forces coming against them, and the hesitant tug toward reconciliation, draw you deeper into the story’s heart.
The straightforward prose and dialogue, echoing with the cadence of a bygone era, perfectly capture the period in a way that makes you feel as if you were there. The plot, captivatingly focused on romance, also hums with an intriguing undercurrent, piquing curiosity, especially around the glittering, much-desired jewel. Hidden subplots add to the story’s unpredictability, making you rush through the final chapters, each page a frantic heartbeat of strange developments. Suspense, thick and tangling with side characters’ hidden motives, swells midway, flipping the narrative with pulse-throbbing curiosity. The ending is quite the thrill ride. Regency romance enthusiasts—prepare to be utterly charmed by this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but was not required to leave a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I've so enjoyed Jackie Killelea's Saving the Spinsters Series. A Spinster for the Viscount, the latest in the series, is a delight. I loved the way the heroine, Jane Talbot, rediscovers things that bring her joy through the aid of Henry Lendin. When she's with the hero, Jane isn't afraid to give a wholehearted laugh when something amuses her. She's not easily ruffled by things and is the kind of character you find yourself routing for. This is a sweet read that provided a respite when I needed it.
