Celeste Nilson Walker made up her mind about Ray when he walked out of her life without so much as a good-bye. Eight years and one disastrous marriage later, she s sworn off men for good. Now Ray s back in town and Celeste will do everything in her power to keep him from discovering the gift he left behind her precious daughter, Mia. Self-made millionaire Ray Fontana has run out of challenges. He s met every goal, fulfilled every ambition and still he feels empty. When a tall blond stumbles out of his past, Ray s heart gets a jump start. He s determined to win Celeste back, not as a wealthy and successful entrepreneur but as plain old Ray, a man with a troubled past and a blue-collar future.
I enjoyed a lot of the story, but there were some irritating elements as well. The most irritating, is that the book is peppered with common spanish phrases that the author felt the need to translate. That really messed with the flow of the story. If Celeste had spent all of her life with Rosa, Rosa would not continually translate into english, the spanish words/phrases. Likewise, Rosa would not speak fluent english, and be constantly tripping over common english words and phrases (i.e. "'What is the word you use when Mia is hungry or tired?' Rosa's brow furrowed. 'Cranky?' Rosa nodded vigorously." and, "...how do they say, 'fat and happy'"
Also Ray was kind of a sleaze, and Celeste was rather weak.
