This gripping tale follows Seira, a young and powerful witch whose life is thrown into chaos after the brutal murder of her mentor. One of the most compelling aspects of the book is its eerie, immersive atmosphere. From the very first page, the novel pulls you into a dark world where magic is both a gift and a curse. The author masterfully weaves tension and suspense into every scene, making it nearly impossible to put the book down. Seira’s journey is fraught with danger, deception, and unexpected alliances—one of the most intriguing being her connection with a mysterious vampire. Their dynamic adds an intense layer of complexity to the story, blending elements of trust, temptation, and hidden motives.
The book also shines in its rich world-building and deep lore. The magical system is well thought out, adding depth to the conflict between witches, vampires, and other supernatural beings. The history behind these creatures is intricately woven into the plot, enhancing the sense of realism within the fantasy setting.
However, the novel does have moments where it leans heavily into descriptions, occasionally slowing the pace. While these detailed passages help bring the world to life, some readers might find them a bit overwhelming. That said, the story quickly makes up for it with its high-stakes confrontations and unexpected twists, keeping the reader engaged until the very end.

So I just finished reading "The Sequence of Immortality" and, no joke, it's pretty epic. Imagine living in a world crammed with strict witch laws and sneaky immortals lurking around. That's the crazy backdrop to Seira Dufey's life, which goes from zero to a hundred real quick when her mentor, this super powerful High Witch Matace, gets brutally offed. Like, seriously, it's intense from the get-go.
Seira's thrown headfirst into this wild investigation that's all about danger and people playing two-faced games. And then, there’s this vampire who's been popping up in her dreams, which is kind of spooky but also sort of thrilling? He's all mysterious and somehow plays a big part in her life, making things both exciting and a bit scary.
As she's trying to figure out all this supernatural political drama, Seira finds out there’s this hidden link between her and the vampires, plus some dark secrets that could basically blow the magical world to bits. Enemies are everywhere, and Seira's gotta tap into some powers she just found out she had to protect her peeps and get to the bottom of things.
But here's the kicker: the more she dives into this, the higher the stakes get. We're talking about losing her soul high. "The Sequence of Immortality" isn’t just another magic story; it’s about how far you'd go to uncover the truth when everything's on the line, including your life. And let me tell you, failing isn’t just about dying. It’s way more.
Definitely give it a read if you're into magic, mystery, and not knowing what's gonna happen next. It’s a wild ride from start to finish!
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book. I received a complimentary copy from Voracious Readers.
The idea of a fantasy with somewhat of a murder mystery was so exciting to me! The book started strong, but overall missed the mark for me. There were times that I struggled to follow the story, as far as where the characters were located and why and how they got from one place to another. I also felt like there needed to be more action on the lead up to the big battle.
I really appreciated the author’s commitment to being descriptive and trying to immerse the reader in the emotions or environment of the scene, but I found a lot of the adjectives or phrasing to be repetitive and think the story could be improved with some editing on this front. Being descriptive is great and I did feel like vibe! I just think a bit more finesse is needed. I will be saying “palpable” in my sleep for the foreseeable future…
I also struggled with the characters constantly in flux emotions/dispositions. One second you can’t resist the person and the next you’re treating this person as though they are the bain of your existence? Not to be confused with an enemy to lovers relationship, just overall bizarre switches between infatuation, friendship, hatred, lust, jealousy, joy, anger, and indifference woven throughout and extending to the main and secondary characters. I also struggled a bit with Siera’s ego and random bouts of superiority as the book came to its conclusion.
The Sequence of Immortality by Laurie Bowler is a captivating dark fantasy that blends magic, mystery, and high-stakes intrigue. At the heart of the novel is Seira Dufey, a young witch who embarks on a perilous quest for justice after the brutal murder of her mentor, High Witch Matace. Seira's journey through a world where witches, vampires, and immortals coexist is filled with danger, betrayal, and unexpected alliances—most notably with a mysterious vampire who haunts her dreams.
Bowler’s world-building is richly detailed, immersing readers in a realm where supernatural politics and ancient powers create a web of tension and suspense. The complex relationships, especially between Seira and the enigmatic vampire, add depth to the narrative, blending romance, trust, and danger. As Seira uncovers dark secrets about her own destiny, the novel explores themes of personal strength, sacrifice, and the pursuit of truth, no matter the cost.
While the pacing occasionally slows due to detailed world-building, the novel's twists and emotional depth keep readers engaged. The story’s high stakes, richly developed characters, and haunting atmosphere make The Sequence of Immortality a must-read for fans of supernatural thrillers. Bowler delivers a gripping, thought-provoking tale of magic, mystery, and power that will leave readers eagerly turning the pages.
Laurie Bowler’s The Sequence of Immortality is a fascinating dive into the world of supernatural fiction. It’s more than just a fantasy novel—it’s a thought-provoking story that questions the cost of eternal life. The way Bowler writes about immortality, not just as a gift but also as a burden, makes this book stand out. The main character’s inner conflict is powerful, making you wonder what you’d do in their place.
The book is beautifully written, with vivid descriptions that make the setting feel alive. Whether it’s the dark, gothic landscapes or the intense moments between characters, Bowler’s writing pulls you in. The pacing is well-handled, blending fast-moving action with slower, emotional moments that make you reflect.
One thing to note is that the world-building can be a bit heavy at first, but once you get into it, the depth adds so much to the story. The characters are well-developed, each with their own strengths and flaws, making them feel real despite the supernatural setting. The dialogue is natural, with a mix of casual conversations and deeper, philosophical discussions that make you think.
Overall, this book is perfect for readers who love supernatural stories that go beyond the usual tropes. It’s engaging, beautifully written, and leaves a lasting impression. Definitely worth reading!
Laurie Bowler’s The Sequence of Immortality is one of those books that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go. It’s a dark fantasy packed with supernatural politics, deep emotions, and some incredible world-building. At the heart of it is Seira Dufey, a young witch who finds herself in a dangerous game of secrets after the murder of her mentor, High Witch Matace. As she digs deeper, she uncovers things about herself, the people around her, and the true price of power.
What really made this book stand out for me was the characters. Seira isn’t just a typical “chosen one” type—she’s flawed, she struggles, and she grows in ways that feel completely natural. Her relationship with a certain vampire (no spoilers!) adds so much tension and complexity to the story. The side characters also break away from stereotypes, making the world feel more alive.
Bowler’s writing is poetic without being too heavy, balancing gothic atmosphere with a story that moves at just the right pace. There are moments of action, moments of heartbreak, and even moments of quiet reflection that make everything hit harder. Sure, the pacing slows down a little in some parts, but every twist and turn builds up to an ending that really makes you think. If you love dark fantasy with strong characters and a story that keeps you on edge, this one’s definitely worth reading!
If you love dark fantasy that combines supernatural mystery with emotional depth, The Sequence of Immortality is the perfect read. Laurie Bowler delivers a gripping story full of intrigue, power struggles, and morally complex characters. The novel follows Seira Dufey, a young witch whose world is turned upside down when her mentor is murdered. What starts as a personal tragedy soon becomes a dangerous journey into a supernatural world filled with shifting alliances and secrets that could change everything.
Bowler’s writing is lush and atmospheric. She knows how to create an eerie setting without slowing down the story. There’s a gothic beauty to the world she’s built, but it never overshadows the action or the emotions driving the characters. There are high-stakes action scenes, but there are also quiet, reflective moments that make you feel the weight of everything Seira is going through.
This book is more than just an entertaining read—it makes you think about destiny, power, and what it really means to live forever. It’s dark, thrilling, and impossible to put down. Definitely a must-read for fans of supernatural fantasy with rich storytelling and unforgettable characters!
Laurie Bowler’s The Sequence of Immortality is the kind of book that completely pulls you into its world and refuses to let go. It’s dark, mysterious, and packed with tension—both the supernatural kind and the emotional kind. From the very first page, the story sets up an intriguing mystery: Seira Dufey, a young witch, loses her mentor in a brutal murder, and what starts as a search for answers quickly spirals into something much bigger.
One of the best things about this book is Seira herself. She’s not just some one-dimensional "chosen one" type—she’s complex, struggling with grief, doubt, and the weight of the revelations she uncovers. And then there’s the mysterious vampire she’s tangled up with, which adds a whole new layer of chemistry and conflict. The relationship between witches and vampires in this world isn’t just background noise; it’s deeply woven into the plot and adds to the intensity of every decision Seira makes.
If you love dark fantasy with strong characters, intricate world-building, and twists that keep you guessing, this book is a must-read. It’s got everything—mystery, supernatural politics, emotional depth, and just the right amount of gothic intrigue. Highly recommend!
While The Sequence of Immortality has good story bones, it needs a heavy copy edit and the characters flushed out better. The author’s descriptions are really good and drew me in, but the heroine’s bipolar reactions and thoughts, especially regarding her situation and Lucas verge more on bullying than simply a person trying to figure out what’s going on in a world she’s been thrust into. One minute she’s dreaming happy thoughts about him or reacting with a teasing nature and the next, she’s furious and either throwing caustic words or actually hitting him. Lucas seems more stable, but his thoughts/reactions are also jumbled.
The plot is so heavy-handed with nonstop action, it doesn’t give the reader much chance to calm down, and by the middle of the book, I had a difficult time even wanting to see what happens between Seira and Lucas. A thorough copyedit would make this book really good. Keeping a balance of action and calm, tightening the narration and aligning it with the actual dialogue for continuity, and flushing out the character arcs are a must to keep the reader’s turning the page.
Overall, the storyline is refreshing and the worldbuilding is amazing. I love the author’s idea of bringing in creatures not often written about.
When I started reading this book, it was fast and exciting. The story takes place in a world where witches have to follow some strict rules, and there are immortals who are hiding in the shadows & causing trouble. Seira is the main character who is living a normal life until everything changes suddenly. High Witch Matace was her mentor & was murdered in a brutal way. From that moment on, things get really serious.
Seira goes into a dangerous search for the truth, & surrounded by people she cannot trust. There is a vampire who keeps appearing in her dreams. It’s creepy but also kind of interesting. The vampire is mysterious, and I don’t know why for some reason, he’s strongly connected to her life. She continues her search, & discovers a shocking link between herself and the vampires.
There are some dark secrets that could destroy the entire magical world. She’s up against some powerful enemies, and seira learns how to use new powers to protect the people she loves and figure out the truth. This book isn’t just another magic story; it’s about how far someone will go to uncover the truth, when the price is more than just their life.
It’s a perfect mix of magic, mystery, and raw emotion, wrapped up in a beautifully written fantasy world that feels rich, immersive, and dangerously real.
At the heart of it all is Seira Dufey, a character who I found myself rooting for instantly. She’s strong, determined, and deeply complex, making her journey from an apprentice to a force to be reckoned with incredibly satisfying. When her mentor is murdered, she’s thrown into a world of power struggles, supernatural politics, and dark secrets that had me flipping pages like crazy.
One of the biggest highlights for me was the vampire dynamic. The mysterious figure that has haunted Seira’s dreams brings intensity, tension, and just the right amount of romance to balance out the action-packed story. Their interactions are layered with so much emotion and intrigue that I found myself completely invested in every moment between them.
Witches, vampires, and immortals all coexist under strict magical laws, creating an atmosphere of constant suspense. The supernatural politics are intricate (and at times, mind-boggling), but instead of feeling overwhelming, they make the stakes even higher.
The Sequence of Immortality is a gripping blend of mystery, magic, and supernatural intrigue. From the very first page, the worldbuilding pulls you in—witches bound by rigid laws, immortals lurking in the shadows, and a murder that sets everything in motion.
Seira Dufey is a compelling protagonist, navigating a web of deception and danger after the brutal murder of her mentor. Her connection with the enigmatic vampire adds an irresistible tension to the story, keeping you hooked as she uncovers shocking truths about the supernatural world. The pacing is excellent, with twists that constantly raise the stakes.
What kept this from being a full five stars for me was that some plot points felt a little rushed, and I wished for a bit more depth in certain character relationships. That said, the atmosphere and suspense were fantastic, making it hard to put down.
If you love stories filled with magic, intrigue, and morally complex characters, this is definitely worth reading!
The Sequence of Immortality by Laurie Bowler is one of those books that keeps you guessing. From the start, you know you’re in for something different. It introduces Seira Dufey, a young witch on a dangerous path of revenge. She’s fierce, reckless, and totally determined to find justice for her mentor’s murder.
Now, let’s talk about the writing. It’s a bit bumpy at times. Some scenes feel slow, others are packed with action, and there are moments where a sentence just doesn’t quite land right. For example, the opening line leaves you hanging mid-thought, which can be frustrating. But even with those hiccups, the world Bowler creates is so intriguing that it pulls you in anyway.
The real magic of this book? The relationships. Seira’s interactions with other characters, especially a mysterious and charming vampire, make the story even more gripping. Their connection is complex—it’s not just romance, it’s layered with tension, mystery, and a bit of danger. That makes the supernatural side of the book feel even more real.
The Sequence of Immortality is a gripping and imaginative fantasy that had me hooked from the start! The story follows Seira Dufey, a determined young witch whose mentor is murdered, sending her on a dangerous quest for the truth. What starts as a simple investigation soon unravels into a web of secrets, betrayals, and unexpected alliances that kept me on edge the entire time.
The world-building is absolutely stunning! Witches, vampires, and other supernatural beings coexist in a delicately balanced yet volatile world, making every encounter feel intense and unpredictable. Seira is an incredible protagonist—strong but vulnerable, driven yet constantly evolving. Her dynamic with a mysterious vampire adds a layer of intrigue and tension that made their interactions electric.
If you love fantasy filled with action, adventure, and deeply personal stakes, this book is a must-read. The murder mystery, romantic tension, and magical power struggles make it a truly unforgettable journey.
Laurie Bowler’s The Sequence of Immortality was a fun and engaging read! I’ve always been a big fan of paranormal stories, and this one had an interesting mix of witches, vampires, and demons. The author’s writing style is strong, and the plot was well thought out. I especially liked how the supernatural elements were blended together in a way that felt fresh.
That being said, I did have a few issues with it. Some of the character shifts, especially with Darcy, felt a little too abrupt, almost like they were changing personalities on the spot. There were also a few inconsistencies—like a character having siblings in one part of the book but then being called an only child later. And the switches between first and third person were a little distracting. Also, there were quite a few editing mistakes, which made it harder to stay fully immersed in the story.
Despite those bumps, I still really enjoyed the book. The plot itself was great, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good paranormal novel. It might not be perfect, but it’s definitely an entertaining read!
I went into The Sequence of Immortality not knowing what to expect, and honestly, that’s the best way to read it. Laurie Bowler has created a supernatural world that feels fresh and full of surprises. The story follows Seira Dufey, a 23-year-old witch who throws herself into danger to avenge her mentor’s murder. She’s reckless, determined, and easy to root for.
I will say, the writing can feel a bit uneven. Some sections are fast-paced and gripping, while others slow down more than needed. There are also moments where the writing feels a little clunky, like in the opening paragraph, where a sentence just… stops mid-thought. But despite that, the story itself is strong.
What I really enjoyed was the relationships between the characters, especially Seira and a mysterious vampire who helps her out. It’s not just a typical love story—it’s suspenseful, complicated, and adds another layer to the book. The emotional stakes feel just as high as the supernatural ones, which makes everything more intense.
A captivating novel involving a murder mystery, witches, vampires, otherworldly creatures and dimensional travel. Seira is a witch who was adopted and raised by human parents. They’re disappointed that she’s decided to become a witch but perhaps that’s her destiny. At the beginning of the book we learn that her mentor, the High Witch Matace has been brutally murdered. She vows that she will investigate the murder, discover who the culprit is and ensure they face justice for the crime. Luke, an immortal vampire, feels the same way and wants to assist Seira, in any way that he’s able to. They’re shocked when they find out who’s responsible and to hold the murderer accountable for their actions is significantly more complicated than they anticipate. They end up having to travel through dimensions and deal with mythical creatures. A very enjoyable and entertaining read.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Laurie Bowler delivers an intense and immersive supernatural fantasy in The Sequence of Immortality. The story follows Seira Dufey, a witch thrown into danger after the murder of her mentor. As she digs deeper, she’s entangled in a web of politics, betrayal, and a mysterious vampire who has been haunting her dreams. The world-building is fantastic, and the tension in every scene keeps you hooked. The lore behind the witches and immortals is deep and well thought out.
However, the book does lean into heavy exposition at times, which slows down some of the action. Some parts, especially battle sequences, feel a little too detailed, but if you stick with it, the payoff is worth it. There are high emotional stakes, shocking revelations, and intense confrontations that make this book a thrilling read. If you enjoy dark, magical worlds filled with secrets and power struggles, this one’s for you.
The Sequence of Immortality by Laurie Bowler is an atmospheric, emotionally charged dive into a world of witches, vampires, ancient secrets, and fierce loyalty. From page one, you're pulled into Seira Dufey's journey—a young witch reeling from the murder of her mentor and determined to uncover the truth, no matter how dark the path gets. What unfolds is a riveting tale of betrayal, vengeance, and a slow-burning, dangerous bond with a vampire who might be her greatest ally... or her undoing. Bowler crafts a vivid, magical world teeming with supernatural politics, forbidden power, and layered lore. Seira is a standout protagonist—brave, flawed, and full of heart—and the emotional stakes are just as high as the magical ones. Yes, there are a few rough edges in the pacing and the prose, but none of that dimmed the story's gripping hold on me. If you love your fantasy laced with mystery, danger, and a touch of the forbidden, this one's for you. I'm already itching for book two!
This book is everything anyone would love in a supernatural fantasy! The Sequence of Immortality throws you right into a world of magic, danger, and hidden truths, with a story that’s impossible to put down.
Seira Dufey is the kind of protagonist anyone would adore—fierce, flawed, and fighting for justice in a world that’s constantly working against her. The murder of her mentor sets off a chain reaction of shocking twists, pulling her deeper into supernatural politics, secret betrayals, and an intense, mysterious connection with a vampire who’s haunted her dreams
The story doesn’t just rely on its fast-paced action (though there’s plenty of that!); it also delivers some deeply emotional moments. Themes of identity, loyalty, and sacrifice are woven seamlessly into the narrative, making the stakes feel incredibly real.
This book took me by surprise in the best way possible. It blends dark fantasy, supernatural intrigue, and even a touch of sci-fi, making it a fresh and exciting take on the genre.
Seira’s journey to uncover the truth behind her mentor’s murder is gripping from the start, packed with suspense, mystery, and high-stakes magic. But what really stood out to me was the unexpected sci-fi elements woven into the spooky, mystical atmosphere—it’s a bold mix, and it totally works! The dynamic between Seira and a certain vampire adds layers of tension, intrigue, and just the right amount of romance, making the emotional stakes just as high as the action-packed ones.
If you’re looking for a unique, genre-blending story that keeps you guessing, this is definitely the book to pick up. It’s eerie, exciting, and unlike anything else I’ve read in a long time!
A Witch’s Journey Through Magic, Murder, and Mystery
Even though dark fantasy and mystery aren’t usually my go-to genres, I picked up The Sequence of Immortality because of its intriguing title — and I must say, it’s a great read. The story feels rich and layered, with enough twists to keep you guessing while still being easy to follow. Seira Dufey, a young witch, is on the hunt for her mentor’s murderer — the High Witch Matace — and is drawn into a dangerous investigation that weaves together witches, vampires, and supernatural politics. She’s relatable in her doubts and determination, and the tension surrounding her connection to a mysterious vampire adds another layer of intrigue. Altogether, it’s a captivating tale of magic and mystery that highlights Seira’s journey of courage, determination, and self-discovery.
I'm surprised this story hasn't been selected by more readers. While it may not align perfectly with everyone's expectations for a strict horror narrative, there's something commendable about its bold blend of science fiction into the traditional creepy tale format. The way these elements are woven together not only adds depth but also introduces a refreshing perspective that sets it apart from other stories within the genre. Exploring the unknown through a science fiction lens while maintaining an atmosphere of suspense and eeriness is no easy task, and this story manages to do so in an intriguing and enjoyable manner. If you enjoy vampires, romance and science fiction all thrown into one great book then this is for you.
This was a fresh spin on vampires, witches and mythical creatures. It felt different from the usual stories in this genre. The world-building was super creative, and the characters were strong and well-written, especially Seira. She was independent and powerful & making her a main character was the perfect choice.
The mix of magic, mystery, and danger made this book really interesting. Seira’s journey was exciting and emotional as she faced powerful beings and uncovered dark secrets. There was a lot of tension, and there were plenty of twists that caught me off guard.
The supernatural politics were intense, and the stakes were high. This is a great dark fantasy with suspense and surprises. Super fun.
What really set this story apart for me wasn’t just the incredible world-building or the compelling magical elements—it was the way the author seamlessly wove in mystery and psychological drama. As the plot unfolds, you’re constantly faced with one burning question: how much are you willing to risk for the truth? And, more importantly, is the truth even worth it if it costs you everything? This book doesn’t just entertain—it challenges you to think, making it an incredibly engaging and immersive experience.
The pacing was spot-on—there were tense, suspenseful moments, unexpected plot twists, and an underlying sense of mystery that kept me hooked until the very end. The characters felt real and complex, and their struggles added an emotional depth that made the stakes feel even higher.
I just finished The Sequence of Immortality, and wow—what a ride! The story revolves around Seira Dufey, a witch who has been mentored by Matace, a powerful figure in the supernatural world. But when Matace is brutally killed, Seira is thrown into a whirlwind of secrets, politics, and hidden dangers. Along the way, she finds herself drawn to a vampire she’s only seen in her dreams.
What I loved most about this book is how immersive it is. The world-building is fantastic, making the supernatural politics feel real and layered. The characters are also deep and complex—no one is just ""good"" or ""evil."" Seira's journey is intense, and you feel every bit of her struggle. If you enjoy dark fantasy with strong female leads, you’ll love this book. Definitely one to keep in your collection!
Laurie Bowler has created an incredible dark fantasy world with The Sequence of Immortality. The story follows Seira, a young witch trying to uncover the truth behind her mentor’s death. What she finds is way bigger than she expected—dangerous secrets, supernatural politics, and even a strange bond with a vampire that adds so much tension to the story.
One thing I loved was how real Seira felt—her struggles, growth, and emotions hit hard. The world-building is also top-notch, making witches and vampires feel completely new. There are some slower parts, but they only make the big reveals even better. The mix of action, mystery, and emotion kept me hooked, and the ending left me thinking about so much more than just the story. Highly recommend it if you love fantasy with depth!
