Guilt is dangerous. It rules my life. I am riddled with it. After fifteen years, you would think it would lessen. It hasn’t. Drugs numb it, women relieve it. But it always returns, stronger and heavier. Always. The light, it is refreshing. It gets closer and I reach for it. But it is always just out of my grasp. Always.

I received a copy of the book for an honest review.
Piper dream of being a architect and working for large firm and proving to her father she can make it on her own have come true. She meets a mystery man one night at a concert. She spends quite a few nights hoping to run into him again. Until she gets to work at the job site and there he is. Fenton is a broken man, carrying his demons around with him. The connection they feel keep pulling them together but the tensions between her boss Frank and Fenton along with pretty much everyone else makes it hard for them. There is a lot more to Fenton then piper knows.
I had mixed feeling about the characters. Most of the time I loved them. At moments I really had to question Piper. She got the dream job she wanted but she has no qualms about leaving work and chasing after Fenton putting it all in jeopardy. Makes her seem a little immature at times. Fenton bounced from one emotion to another but his is explainable. Overall it was a great read. Lost of suspense and just when you think you are finally going to get the answers you need the book ends in big cliffhanger
Piper’s a fresh out of college architect looking to make a name for herself outside the family construction business. Once she lands her dream job, she meets foreman Fenton. After a chance meeting at a club, Piper knows her attraction to Fenton is only going to grow on the jobsite. Can she stay away from him or will she be drawn in like a moth to the flame?
There are no intelligible words for how much I loved this book. Nicki’s characters literally jump off the page and enter your life from the start. You know there’s more to playboy Fenton’s story right off the bat. You’ll feel the heat of Piper and Fenton’s interactions and it just might melt your e-reader. Nicki makes you wait until the VERY end of the book to drop a HUGE bombshell on her readers. This bombshell will rock whatever you thought you knew about Fenton’s shaded past. It will leave you reeling while you wait in suspense for the next book.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and you will too! Piper is starting a new job at a large architectural firm, and wanting to stay independent from her dad. Her sister Phoebe lives with her and they go out one night to a club. Enters hot, sexy and very handsome Fenton and something draws her to him. He has his demons and basically doesn't open up to many people and works as construction crew. Piper has no idea who this sexy man with this incredible voice is and seeks him out, she finds that fate is funny with how things work. Everyone warns her, but is she just a bleeding heart that does not see it or is everyone else wrong? The passion and the story heat up and leave you wanting more. The characters flow and they make you curious to what all is behind everything. I enjoyed reading this story and cannot wait till to read the others!
What a great start to these books I was gripped by Fents story and with piper trying to be a independent business women she is up against some pretty scary odds.
The twist at the end wow but there is a lot of drugs mentioned in this books so please be warned
Normally I don't post reviews but the rating for this book leaves me highly disappointed having read it. The book is literally cover to cover grammatical and contextual spelling errors (bare instead of bear; conscious when it should be conscience; you're for your, etc) but it doesn't usually bother me quite as much as this book did....
Because on top of that you have : very formal, stiff dialogue; very flat characters; and an absolutely overblown plot. To be fair, the overblown plot doesn't become quite so apparent until the middle of book two. After a cliffhanger in book one. After that, for me, it became a bad 80s soap opera.
The basic storyline is so similar to so many better written books. I wanted to like this one because the blurb made it sound so great but instead I'm kind of resentful of the time I've wasted reading it. Fortunately, these books are currently available on Kindle Unlimited so I'm not out of pocket as well. Needless to say, I won't be following this author.
I loved "Damaged Perfection" by Nicki Rae up until the cliffhanger, and then I hated her for leaving me hanging without answers for Piper and Fent's relationship!!! Ok maybe hate is too strong a word, but I don't like cliffhangers and this really does leave you hanging with no final answers. Luckily book two "Resisting Perfection" is already out, so now I can get my Piper and Fent fix!
This is a sexy read, despite the fact that Fent is broken from blame in his past that rests on his shoulders. Piper is just the one to reach in and smooth out the rough places. Their chemistry from the start is so erotic that it pulls you in and makes you want to read form start to finish.
I was honored to have been able to read an ARC of this book. Nicki Rae set out to deliver a suspenseful, intriguing romance, and she absolutely did! I was wrapped up in Fenton and Piper's stories from the very beginning.
I love that the author was able to combine both dark mystery and romance so seamlessly. I felt vested in all aspects of the story; not only was I rooting for the romance, I also wanted to find out what Fenton isn't telling anyone! I can't wait to hear the rest of the story.
First off I want to say that this book is AMAZING! Now for the review. We start with a young woman fresh out of College beginning to work at a major architect firm. She meets Fenton who has a damaged past and has demons that he is trying to hide. They find each other and start to fall in love. However this is no your cookie cutter romance. I was turning every page with glee wanting to see what was next. I did not want the book to end. I cannot wait to see where Nicki Rae takes us next in the series. I HIGHLY recommend this book! You will not regret reading this book.
Damaged Perfection is one of my favorite books! Nicki Rae is a writing goddess! Piper and Fenton have great chemistry from the start. Fentons past is heartbreaking and he holds so much in until he meets Piper. She calms him when no one else can. Piper tries to fight her attraction for him but he has a way of getting under her skin. She can sense he's had a hard life and wants him to open up to her but doesn't want to push him. There is a huge reveal at the end of the book that I didn't see coming. Nicki please hurry with book 2 I need more Fenton!
Last night i finally finished this book. I saw finally not because it was long or boring but because life got in the way for my reading. I can describe this book in one word... AMAZING!
From the first chapter it captures you and takes you to a completely different place. Piper and Fent are two of my all time favorite characters. From the moment they meet you can FEEL the connection they share. And the things they face together as a new "thing" is enthralling. Nick rae wrote an absolutely BEAUTIFUL book. I can't wait to read the second book. I am not good with cliff hangers at all!
Omg can we say wow. Fenton is sex on a construction site. He is just like the title damaged perfection. His demons are huge, but his heart is bigger and you want it to shine through. Piper is a head strong take no grab kinda of girl. She wants Fenton she needs him but afraid. The chemistry is out of this world. Fenton is tender with her but rough to. I just wanted to hug him and rocking like a baby. Can't wait for next book.
OMG A MUST READ!!!ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! My adrenaline is pumping still after finishing this book!!! I couldn't put it down I'm so in love with Piper and Fent it's unreal their story is just beginning and I need and want more! !! What a amazing writing style and very different than any thing I have read to date!!! I was gifted a copy from Facebook and wow is all I can say if u read only one book this year make it Damaged Perfection
Great story. The author did a good job with her descriptions and letting you get to know the characters. Fenton doesn't have many redeeming qualities but Piper can see past his rough exterior to the caring man he is underneath. It does end in a cliffhanger that makes you wanting more! I can't wait for book 2.
Amazing start to what will be a great story. I got so invested in the characters and trying to figure out what Fenton wasn't telling anyone. This book takes you on a emotional rollercoaster, and there are some wow moments as well. Can't wait to read more.
Piper lands her dream job with a prominent architecture firm. When she and her sister go out to celebrate, she meets an enigmatic man who leaves a lasting impression on her. She’s reunited with him at a construction site for a project assigned to her by her boss. Although Piper was initially attracted to Fenton’s appearance, she soon realizes there’s more to him than just looks. He’s a hard worker who enjoys teaching her the ins and outs of what happens after a blueprint leaves the drafting table.
The more time Fenton spends with Piper, the more he likes her. It isn’t long before the pair’s working relationship grows into a heated offsite one. This makes it increasingly difficult for Fenton to hide his rampant drug addiction. It’s the only thing that, in addition to Piper, makes his life bearable. Although he loves his job, he hates his employer and has a plan in motion to soon part ways.
Everything seems to be on track until an unexpected event in Fenton’s business partner’s personal life pulls the rug right out from under his feet. Unable to cope with the loss, Fenton becomes unglued. He ditches work and chooses to dull the sting of his sorrow by sniffing lines of white powder. But instead of finding comfort in the ensuing numbness, he gets a major confrontation with his boss, who turns out to be more important than Piper initially thought.
The premise of this story drew me in, but I found the language in both narration and dialogue to be a bit difficult to navigate. There were many instances in which contractions would have made for easier reading. I also kept getting tripped up by improper use of dialogue tags and commas. I had to repeatedly go back and reread sentences or paragraphs to get the full context of what was happening or being said. These two reasons are why I gave only four stars instead of five. Fixing these small problems would take this book from good to great. I’d love to take a stab at correcting the manuscript to help the author get more positive reviews. If she sees this, PLEASE contact me. I’ll gladly assist you. I think you have a lot of potential, and I’d hate to see you not live up to it due to minor errors that can easily be fixed.
I was grossly immersed in this book, however; I am broken hearted by. The events that took place. I am onto the next book in hopes of promise of a happier ending.
I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.
WARNING: CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS & MATURE AND ADULT CONTENT
This book was GREAT! It keeps you guessing all the way to the end. Then the book ends with a cliff hanger that makes you want to scream that Damaged Perfection is over and immediately pick up the next book so that you can continue the story.
This book is about a woman named Piper and she has just graduated college. She is valedictorian of her graduating class. She has followed in her fathers footsteps and gotten her degree in architecture. Piper wants to prove that she can do this all on her own without the aide from her father, so she has moved from Ohio to Indiana to go to school. Upon graduation she gains a job in the most prestigious architecture company in her area. Once she lands this choice job, her and her sister Phoebe decide to go out on the town in celebration. Piper enjoys herself and ends up dancing with a guy she instantly feels sparks with. She never gets his name before she has to leave to save her sister from getting into trouble.
Enter Fenton who from all appearances is a bad boy. Fenton is a very busy man. He works full time in construction, part time at a security agency, and also owns a bar. He plans on becoming financially stable so that he can quit his construction job (one less job for him, and more time on his hands). Fenton carries guilt around that he attempts to hide from everyone. He hides this guilt with drugs, alcohol, and an endless supply of women. One night he is at his bar and begins dancing with a beautiful woman. He never gets her name before she leaves.
Soon after the bar Piper is taken to the construction site where her plans for a school is being built. She is told to hang out on the site for the day. She walks up to the gentleman that will be showing her around and it is Fenton. Her mouth drops open as she looks at the guy she was dancing with the night before. Even in the light of day the instant chemistry and camaraderie is there. Is this fate?
What is in Fenton's past that holds all of these years of guilt over his head? Does Fenton leave the drugs and women to pursue something with Piper? What is going on between Fenton and the owners of the architect firm? Well now if I told you, then you wouldn't need to read this wonderful book from Nikki Rae.
Nicki has blown my mind on this story. I did not expect Damaged to end when it did. Now I am searching for the next book so I can get into it just as soon as I get a cat nap. Thanks for the wonderful read!
This is the story of Piper and poor, tortured Fenton.
Piper is a determined young lady who is on a mission to prove she can become a first class architect without the influence of her architect father. So she moves away for school and is lucky to interview with James Construction. Enter Fenton our tortured hero who relies on drugs, alcohol and women to help him forget a past that won't leave him alone. We follow along in their turmoil filled relationship always on what seems to be the edge of finding out the mystery of what lies behind Fenton's torturous past and behaviours.
Then, BAM Nicki leaves us with a mind blowing cliff hanger that made me want to scream out loud. I encourage anyone who likes a little mystery in their romance to check this one out.
Amazing story line. BUT the author needs to learn to spell check and grammar check. Very rarely do I mind this type of issue, however it is really bad through out the book. Whole words are missing like the author started typing a sentence and something distracted her and when she came back she missed a word or two of her thought. At other times it was like spell check was used but the wrong word was picked.
With that being said the story line is amazing, I love the emotional connection between Piper and Fenton. You can almost feel the snapping in the air between them. If you can over look the above mentioned grammar and spelling issues the books is worth the read.
I will note that I started the second book and even the first page of it is missing a word in one of the sentences. I would strongly recommend that the author gets better beta readers and proof readers. As at this point I am afraid to try her other books for fear of running into the same issue.
However, good heavens the writing. CONTRACTIONS please. I mentally had to insert my own just to enjoy the story. The writing issues really just about spoiled it, enough I almost put it down. I'm giving it three stars because the story is good. The characters have me interested, though they are a little annoying in an immature sort of way. They just don't act on target socially to be 20 something. Even the secondary characters are a little off, ie best friend, sister, and father.
I hope book two is better written as in editing and adding CONTRACTIONS. THAT MEANS BOTH DIALOGUE AND INNER MONOLOGUE.
Book given to me by the author for an honest review! I really enjoyed reading this book. The author does a beautiful job at showing a tortured soul. The demons that the main character deals with is not something that we all deal with but the guilt we may feel over something is still the same. The pain feels so real and it just sucks you into the book and you really get invested with the characters and each chapter you keep asking what is going to happen i gotta know! It was a wonderful book to read. Only down side to the book is how short it is and the cliffhanger it leaves you yelling Nooooo!!! I need to know what happens! Other than it was a good book!
Who is this man? He's dark and sexy! He has Piper's interest but can he have her heart? Fenton coming from a bad past, can he win her heart? Will Piper give him the change to love, can Fenton love? This is an amazingly good read! There is a twist coming...but you will have to have to pick yourself up a copy and see what happens!
This book was great, BUT. Use contractions when you write! Not, 'I am', use 'I'm'. Not, 'I do not want...', Use, I don't. I didn't realize the importance of contractions until I read this book. Who is the editor that allowed this? Please fix so I can read more of your books.
I liked this book. But if you're looking for action, in the bedroom or out of it, you won't. This is a story about a boy and a girl who are both damaged, they meet, and are on their way to loving each other. I'm looking forward to the next book, just to have the story advance
Too many irrelevant characters. A lot of unnecessary details. This was all over the place. Had great potential but was disorganized and chaotic. Many times I couldn't follow the dialogue and who said what.
