Luz Martinez moved back to Willow Creek to make a new life for herself and her kids. She's the first woman ever to serve in the Willow Creek Fire Department and she's proud of how far she's come and everything she's accomplished. She knows her kids will thrive, and she has the safety net of her big brother Dex and his fiancee if she needs the support of family. What Luz doesn't count on is how her new boss gets under her skin.
The Willow Creek fire chief, Ian Montgomery, didn't want to hire Luz. He didn't want a woman on the force - especially a single mom he can't stop thinking about. He's witnessed firsthand what happens when women run out of resources to protect their kids, or get caught up in situations that leave them dead or worse. He doesn't want the fire department to be the reason there are more motherless kids in the world.
There's only one solution - avoidance. That will work, right?

Tropes: grumpy x sunshine single mom workplace romance small town mental health rep Dual POV
No Apologies is my first book by Andrea Jenelle and is part of the Willow Creek series, though it can be read as a standalone. The FMC and MMC are both firefighters and I thought that was pretty cool, you don't read about women firefighters often. This book did introduce me to other characters who were the MCs in prior Willow Creek books that I'd like to go back and read their stories.
FMC Luz is a single mom of 3 who's recently moved back to her childhood hometown to be part of the fire department. She's had a lot on her plate raising her children by herself, racism, and deadbeat ex's, but Luz is here to prove that women, even single moms, are just as capable as anyone else. However, her new fire chief isn't going to make her job easy.
MMC Ian is the local fire chief. Before moving back to Willow Creek as the fire chief, Ian was a smoke jumper, fighting wild fires out west. After a traumatic and devastating fire, Ian is left with the ghosts of those he couldn't save and a broken heart. He has his reasons for not being keen on the idea of Luz being in the middle of the action, but he also know she's qualified and expertly trained for the job.
Luz and Ian are cute but I can't lie, Luz's kids stole the show for me. I love how protective Rico was, how conniving Rosie can be, and how adorable Rubi is. Luz definitely shows us that when you have people supporting you, you can accomplish everything. I also enjoyed the mental health aspect from Ian and his background as a smoke jumper. I never read a story about or with that profession before and I definitely want more now!
And just like that we are BACK in Willow Creek setting our sights on another couple to be. This time we're following Luz Martinez and Ian Montgomery.
Luz is a single mom of three and she's recently joined the Willow Creek Fire Department. The only women ever to be apart of it and it's not without it's hurdles. Ian, the fire chief, didn't want to hire Luz. He didn't want a woman to be on the force--let alone someone who is a mother--a single mother. Someone that he is bound and determined to fight his feelings for.
Luz didn't move to Willow Creek to find love. She wanted to build a life for her kids there and be near her big brother Dex. A relationship was never on her mind. She didn't want to put her kids through her finding someone else--let alone when their father is still alive--just not around--a very let's skip this awkward and probably emotional time for them especially if a relationship doesn't work out. She's fairly content with her life.
Ian isn't looking for love because his past haunts him and he very much let's that rule and control his life in the present.
The two face so many hurdles both at work and off.

I didn't connect with these characters as much as I did in previous books. I found myself to be a little off put at times when we were in the head of the characters but the children were still in the room. For example: the twister scene. Ian being turned on toward Luz and being in that headspace to me wasn't necessarily an attractive moment for me due to knowing the kids are there. It was like a family night type situation. (That being said a lot of people LOVED this scene, everyone is different.) Having kids in a romance book is always up in the air on whether I will enjoy it or not. It depends on the situations that we're presented with, etc. Like, I love the inclusion of them, just, not every situation works for me. I will chronically overthink it. For example: I LOVED the inclusion of kids in the earlier novel No Doubts.
Thank you Andrea for the ARC it was nice being back in Willow Creek Again.
Luz and Ian were so cute! Luz has recently come back to the town she grew up in for a new career and has her 3 kids with her after leaving her ex-husband in Florida. Ian is the fire chief and a hottie with some Viking good looks (except a ginger instead of blonde).
These two hit it off on a rough note 😂 Mr. Grumpy pants has a lot of trauma in his past and lets it rule him for a bit before he decides to take control of his life more and Luz is all for giving in and seeing where the sparks take them ❤️ of course with a little meddling from her kids!
This was such a great read! Loved the family dynamic between Luz and her kids, as someone who grew up in a single parent household, it was great to see the representation in book form ❤️.
There is open door spice in this book! The scenes are scattered and not too many are in there, but what’s there is hot 🥵
A few triggers to be mindful of:
Fire/fire ruining house/home Grief/death (remembered) Car accident Paramedic situations (Luz is a paramedic for the fire station) Racism (1 scene) not from MMC
Overall, a quick read with banter, playfulness, serious situations and small town gossip 😂
Single mom Luz is relocating from Florida to be closer to her brother and to begin a new chapter in her life as a medic and firefighter. Her new boss hasn’t been quiet about the misgivings he has hiring a young mother to fill the position his battalion desperately needs.
Commander Ian has seen more than his share of tragedy befall fellow hotshot and traditional firefighters in his years of experience. The last thing he wants to do is watch another group of children become motherless on the job. It certainly doesn’t help matters when he’s got little choice but to hire a young, attractive colleague to fit the bill, and the added worry and stress he feels as a result.
Add in at least one of Luz’s children being neurodivergent, and another with deep fear-based trauma, and it’s a situation fraught with pitfalls.
It took me a while to get into the story, but I appreciated very much the diversity of Luz and her family as well as the way in which Ian couldn’t do anything but be thoughtful and compassionate toward the kids.
I received an advance reader copy from Andrea Jenelle and booksirens, and I’m sharing my honest review.
“I just needed to know if you’d be as sweet as I imagined, Luz. I’ve been dreaming about your kiss since that damn Twister game,”
No Apologies, my first novel by Andrea Jenelle, exceeded all expectations.
Set in Willow Creek, the story revolves around Ian Montgomery, a rugged fire chief, and Luz Martinez, a firefighter & single mother of three, whose lives intersect in unexpected ways.
As Ian navigates his feelings for Luz and her kids, they must confront their past, vulnerabilities, and the power of trust.
Andrea did an amazing job blending Ian into Luz's family and highlighting the value of accepting help to share life's challenges.
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Willow Creek series and Andrea's upcoming works.
Honestly, I could’ve given this book a 5 star review before even starting it because Andrea never disappoints. I have high expectations for the main characters she writes because every single one is unique and perfectly written. Not that they’re actually perfect – they’re all flawed, but so easy to love because they feel so real. Honesty, emotions, struggles. Each book in this series, and their characters, bring something new to Willow Creek. Luz and Ian are no exception. I loved their story so much. That being said, there were plenty of moments I wanted to punch Ian Montgomery in his fictional face. I was trying to talk him through it like he could hear me.
Ian Montgomery is the small town’s fire chief, who carries a lot of weight on his shoulders because of past trauma, doesn’t want to hire Luz, who is returning to Willow Creek as a single mom with nearly nothing to her name. He’s adamant that the job is too dangerous for a single mom and he doesn’t want to add the possibility of something happening to her (and leaving her children motherless) to his conscience. Luz, of course, is too stubborn and determined to let him decide what’s really best for her when he doesn’t even know her. Even when he does get to know her, she’s not the type of woman to back down when she doesn’t think he’s right. Watching Ian struggle to appear like he has everything handled, while battling his past and trying not to let it affect his future, was so relatable. Mental health matters, and I love the way it’s depicted through the mmc without seeming unbelievable or like it was being used as a cop out for his actions. We love our cinnamon roll male characters and fierce female characters, even if we have to watch them struggle through so many things to find their peace. I loved this book. And as always, I can’t wait for the next part of the series.
Another wonderful read by one of my favorite authors. I really enjoy this series & this one definitely did not disappoint this reader. Ian & Luz’s story will stick with me as most of the characters in the series have. Willow Creek is an amazing series with its characters. This Author crafts, characters, and storylines that gets you, the reader, invested and involved. I am looking forward to her next book.
Wow!! She did it again!!! So amazing!!!! Luz and Ian are amazing!!!! Luz a single mom who has been through ALOT come back to Willow creek broke with her 3 kids. After a fire devastated her she decided to become a firefighter/paramedic. Ian a man with a troubled past, who lost so much. He doesn’t want to lose her, but as fire chief he has to pick his battles! Omg this book is so so so good! Highly recommend!!!! I love her books and this is so amazing! I couldn’t put down!
Another Andrea Jenelle MMC to add to my book boyfriends list. Honestly, she has her own category under Willow Creek hidden Cinnamon Role Book Boyfriends.
Ian Montgomery is the grumpy scarred hero we all can fall for. Having experienced multiple traumas in his line of work as a fire fighter, (now fire chief) he has closed himself off to relationships. (Especially calendar ogling - sorry not sorry Ian - I would be fall into such an ogle trap!) I always love how Andrea Jenelle doesn't pull punches when it comes to serious subject matter and characters who are flawed. She creates a world in which the characters feel real to the reader and allows the reader to feel (well this single pringle) that HEAs can exist in and off page. Luz Martinez is a character I was so excited to read her story from the brief mention of her in her brother's book and I truly enjoyed seeing her strength as she manoeuvred her and her family into the kind of life they deserved to live. Those moments of quiet struggle and all the things she did for her kids and herself just showed that single mom strength. Those times when one doesn't feel strong but in how they handle situations and continue to strive for their dreams just makes you champion their journey. The power dynamics within their relationship at the beginning or more accurately their immediate attraction for one another brought that instant yearning that I love as well as the angst that kept me turning the pages. I feel like once you start an Andrea Jenelle novel, it is so hard to stop reading! You will find yourself ignoring everything in order to reveal in the burgeoning relationship between Ian and Luz. How they work on themselves (Ian more so in the end) to figure out a path forward side-by-side. I would go more into the traumas that both Ian and Luz have experienced which made them complex characters but I feel like it might feel a little spoiler-y. I simply suggest you read this amazing novel in an amazing series! Which I will add can be read as a standalone although as an avid fan of the series I suggest you read them all!
Thank you so much to the author for an eARC in exchange for an honest review! I cannot WAIT to read Jack and Ophelia's upcoming novella!!!
Another Willow Creek book I didn’t want to put down! I love how every book makes me love this town more and more and especially when my faves from previous books are front and center (looking at you Dex!!).
I’m not normally a single parent trope lover but Andrea has a way of making me eat it up! Luz has had a rough go with her ex and she’s determined to not date and take focus off of her kids. Ian is suffering from PTSD after a fire took more from him than he wants to admit. He has not dated in years and neither of them are looking for anything serious, especially since they are co-workers. Luz comes as a package deal with her 3 kids and Ian knows the lengths she will go through to protect her family and what he will do to ensure she doesn’t leave her kids without a mom in their line of duty.
I loved their slow burn and the tension with stolen moments of intimacy and wanting more. There’s still some spicy moments for sure! As a parent, I know how hard it is to find time with your spouse for smexy time and each stolen moment and quickie is worth it! Their journey from chasing O’s to hearts is a journey full of tough choices, past heartbreak, learning to trust another, and dealing with the risks of the job. There’s some very emotional scenes too so get ready for some tearing up.
This book is full of feminine strength and going against the stereotypes women face in roles normally deemed for men. Andrea always finds a way to show women they can be a mom, a professional, a wife, an independent force who can also be an equal partner. She also shows her male characters as strong and protective, yet gives them the freedom to express emotions, to cry it out, and know when to ask for help. This is what draws me to her books over and over.
It’s a fast read, yet you don’t feel you’re missing out on anything. She’s able to lay the foundation pretty quickly with these two and the dynamics, while also giving you breadcrumbs to upcoming characters stories. I can’t wait for more!
Note: My role as PA to Andrea has no weight on my thoughts and opinions and this review is of my own.
No Apologies by Andrea Janelle is the latest heartfelt addition to the Willow Creek series, perfectly capturing the essence of small-town life. Luz Martinez, seeking a fresh start for herself and her children, returns to Willow Creek to be closer to her supportive big brother Dexand his fiancée. With a new job, a place to call home, and the warmth of family around her, Luz seems poised for a new chapter—except for one uncertainty: her new job under the reluctant supervision of Fire Chief Ian Montgomery.
Ian has personal reasons for hesitating to hire Luz, reasons thoughtfully explored throughout the story. Initially, their interactions are like oil and vinegar, clashing with tension and guardedness. Yet, as their true selves emerge, they blend seamlessly, much like the comforting harmony of peanut butter and jelly. The narrative delves into the inherent dangers of firefighting, the profound impacts of loss, and the struggles with PTSD—handled with grace and dignity.
Luz and Ian are characters you can’t help but root for. Both scarred by past relationships, they're hesitant to open their hearts again. Andrea Janelle masterfully portrays their emotional journeys with authenticity and depth, making their growing connection genuinely moving. The theme of truly being seen—understood and accepted—is rendered with breathtaking beauty. Luz’s strength as a single mother shines through, her resilience inspiring as she navigates life’s challenges for herself and her adorable children.
No Apologies is a story of healing, self-discovery, and the transformative power of love. It gently reminds us that even after heartbreak, opening up to the right person can lead to profound fulfillment. As I turned each page, I felt deeply connected to Luz and Ian’s emotional battles, fervently hoping Ian would find the courage to risk his heart. This is more than just a beautiful love story; it's a testament to resilience, vulnerability, and the redemptive power of connection.
I look forward to more stories in this amazing heartfelt series. I received an advance copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“Because you see me, Luz. Even when I want to hide who I am and what I am feeling. It’s scary as hell, but it’s liberating too.”
No Apologies by Andrea Jenelle is the perfect continuation of the Willow Creek series. It was like a homecoming of sorts – I was invested from the very first page and loved being able to go back to this wonderful small town, and fall in love with two more residents. I loved how the characters were firefighters, and how Andrea viewed PTSD (which has been discussed in previous Willow Creek books) through this lens. The way Andrea writes about mental health and PTSD is powerful, compassionate, and deeply authentic. She handles difficult topics with such grace and honesty, and it is impossible not to be moved.
I adored Luz and Ian. Their connection is incredibly powerful, but it is more than just love, it is soul-deep. Watching them see and truly understand each other was truly moving and emotional. We all want that feeling of being seen – really being seen – which is such a profound theme brought to life with breathtaking beauty. Luz’s strength as a single mum, and Ian’s quiet depth, was vulnerable, raw, and real. I cannot put into words how utterly stunning Andrea’s writing really is, with vivid descriptions and an immersion that you crave. She doesn’t just write stories, she creates worlds that you long to be a part of and never wish to leave.
This is a single mum romance – which I know some readers are a bit hesitant to read. However, trust me when I say: Luz’s story would not be the same without it. Her role as a mother isn’t a sub-plot or side note, it’s woven intricately and deeply into who she is and adds an emotional richness to the story that you would miss. Rather than complicating the romance, it deepens it. You see her strengths, her vulnerability and her fierce love – with Ian falling for it all. It makes their connection feel so real, hard-earned and worth rooting for. It is one of the most powerful parts of this book.
This isn’t just a love story—it’s a story about healing, identity, and the many forms love can take. Emotional, romantic, and heart-achingly beautiful—No Apologies is the perfect addition to an already loved series. I didn’t just read this story—I felt every word.
No Apologies is the 7th book in the Willow Creek Series that can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading them all!
Luz and Ian's story starts out with immediate tension with both of them having their backs up. Ian's protective instinct is in full force which clouds his judgement of Luz's career choice as a firefighter. His feelings are understandable, to us anyway, due to his past experiences and are nothing personal.
Luz on the other hand DOES take it personally. She's proud of what she accomplished after a disastrous first marriage leaving her a single mom of 3 kids. She's excited to be a part of a bigger picture making a difference in the world and there's no one, man or woman, who will stand in her way.
What follows is a truly heartwarming story of two people moving on in a life that has been anything but fair for either of them. There is so much healing and growth as they face and work on overcoming their tragic pasts. This is shown in such a healthy way that includes communication and recognizing when it's time to seek outside help. I love how in every book of Andrea's she shows her characters that they are never alone in their struggles.
Besides some of the heavier moments in the story, we get romance, humor, education and a whole lotta heat! The kids in this story add a little levity with their innocence and gives us an opportunity to see the softer sides of the MC's. The small town atmosphere and the feeling of community really draws you in making a reader feel at home.
The door is wide open, even unhinged in some moments, with multiple, memorable intimate encounters.
Overall, this is a quickly paced, well-written story with beautiful dialogue and No Apologies necessary if you put everything aside to finish it in one sitting.
I was honored to receive an early copy from the author (Thank you!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this new installment of the Willow Creek series. It's a slow burn smalltown romance with firefighter, workplace romance, grumpy-sunshine and age gap tropes featuring a single mum of three and a traumatized hero. The characters are very likable and have instant chemistry between them, but somehow the story lacks a bit of pizzazz compared to the earlier books. I also thought it was a shame that you don't meet all the protagonists from the other installments this time. But I did find the cross-reference to "Spine of Steel" funny and Luz's children were really cute. The challenges of being a single mum with dating, matchmaking efforts, jealousy and rejection were very realistic.
After her divorce, mother of three Luz Martinez moves back to her hometown of Willow Creek with her children to be near her brother Dex. After surviving a house fire some time ago, Luz trained as a firefighter and paramedic and now has her first job with the Willow Creek Fire Department Fire Chief Ian Montgomery, however, is anything but accommodating. Ever since his girlfriend and colleague died on a call under his command, leaving behind her adolescent son who blames him for her death, Ian has suffered from guilt and nightmares. That’s why he doesn't want Luz to be part of his team and history repeat itself, even though he's instantly attracted to her…
Although it's not my favorite book in the series, the story is very emotional, interesting and filled with drama, angst, spice and suspense, and I'm happy to recommend it!
I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.
Okay soooo I read the first book in the Willow Creek series and skipped straight to the 7th 🫣 not usually how I read a series but this book can be read as a standalone just fine. However, being the person I am I prefer to read a series in order so you best believe I’ll be reading the rest.
Luz Martinez is a single mom who has learned how to take care of herself and her kids on her own. She moves back to Willow Creek to be closer to her brother Dex and to have a support system. She is the first female firefighter hired in the small town and has paramedic background. Our girl is a baddie who will do anything for her three kids.
Ian Montgomery- Mr. Grump himself (all for valid reasons) is a man who has been through and seen things that I cannot fathom. He is such a great grumpy MMC. I absolutely love him. He wants no part in a relationship. That is until he meets Luz. Luz takes his breath away and he finds himself wanting to protect her more and more while trying to navigate his own demons that haunt him that he thinks he has “handled”.
I love the relationship both Luz and Ian have. Ian is so respectful or her kids and puts them first always. He respects that for Luz her children come first and if that isn’t just swoon I don’t know what is. I absolutely love their story!
5/5 ⭐️ 3.5/5 🌶️
Tropes: ✨Slow burn ✨workplace romance ✨Grumpy x Sunshine ✨Single Mom ✨second chance romance ✨age gap ✨anywhere but the bed
Luz is starting fresh in Willow Creek with her three kids, ready to build a new life. Thanks to her brother Dex, she has a beautiful cabin, which was a huge upgrade from her former living place. She is excited to start her new job at the Willow Creek Fire Department. Heading in to meet her new boss, Luz is surprised at how stubborn and cold he seems.
Underneath Ian’s tough exterior is a man still haunted by tragedy. A fire not only took members of his crew, but also his fiancé. When his new hire arrives, he instantly wants to push her away to protect her and her kids.
Despite the walls Ian puts up, I loved watching those rare, vulnerable moments where his charm slipped through. He was so attracted to Luz, and got protective over her as well as her 3 kids. I loved Luz's character. She was strong, sassy, and a fiercely devoted mom who didn’t let anyone push her around. One standout moment for me was how Ian stepped up when an issue arose with Luz’s son’s teacher.
Ian’s hesitation to fall for Luz made sense given his past, especially after one intense and suspenseful scene that added another layer of depth to the story. I LOVED the ending. This book had the perfect amount of tension, yearning, and spice that kept me entertained through the whole story.
Well I just fell in love with another member of the Martinez family!!! I freaking loved Dex story and seeing his sister get get HEA was 👏👏👏
Ian and Luz had the chemistry since the beginning but were fighting that attraction for sure. Boss/employee romance could definitely get the town going. Specially since Ian hadn't had any relationships since moving back.
Both of them had a past. Ian had unresolved trauma and Luz had her kids has part of the package.
The story is a short read but will give you all the feels you're looking for. Ch5 was sad for sure when they responded to a scene 🥺 specifically for Luz.
Andrea gave me a flashback to my childhood with a meal that I have never liked but for some reason our parents were so set on doing so often. I'm an adult now and I still can't get the flavor or liver and onions off my head lol.
I'm also gonna have to rewatch Erin Brockovich with Julia Robert's was ICONIC and the little role play Ian and Luz did was so fun 🤭.
Can't wait for the next book in the series. I can always count on Andrea to make me swoon 🥰
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I absolutely have fallen in love with all of Andrea Jenelle's books, and I haven't been able to stop reading them! The moment I saw No Apologies, I knew I had to dive in.
I've been eagerly waiting for Ian's story, and I’m so glad I got it. He’s definitely a little grumpy and antisocial, but that’s part of his charm. And can we talk about Luz? I love that she has more than one child! It’s refreshing to see a single parent book where the kids are older than just a toddler. 😂 This dynamic makes for a much more engaging story, especially when it comes to the groveling aspect. It's not just about winning back the significant other, but also winning over the kids.
I loved every moment of this story and can't wait for more in the series. I just know Jack's story is going to be a wild ride, especially with that intriguing description of the female lead! 😂
If you’re looking for a heartfelt story about love, family, and overcoming obstacles, No Apologies is a must-read!
Ian Montgomery and Luz Martinez can be summed up in one word - baggage! Never have two people had more to unpack than them. After losing love in a wildfire, Ian has a hard time opening up and letting go. Luz is a single mom with a careless ex, so she has a hard time trusting. Their road is far from smooth but it is fun, electric and sweet. The firehouse brings the action, Luz & Ian bring the heat. Ian seems to seamlessly fit into her life, winning over her kids is a breeze. Winning over their mom will take more work. I love the family dynamic, the headstrong teenage man of the house to get past, the bubbly girls that wrap him around their finger. Add in the Montgomery clan and you’ve got a wonderful, small town love. Of course there’s alway more eyes in Willow Creek and they’re all on Luz & Ian. Andrea Jenelle writes small town packed with love, sentimentality and a slow burn simmer of heat. No Apologies is a wonderful addition to this delightful series and I can’t wait to see how things unpack for Jack Montgomery as for the first time in his life he has to fight for the girl.
This is my first book by Andrea, and I enjoyed it. Ian and Luz as main characters was nice to see. I feel like this book took me through many different feelings. Seeing Ian and what he went through broke my heart, but it made me realize why he was so protective over Luz. I enjoyed seeing Luz and how she navigated being a single mother. She wouldn’t let Ian treat her any different and showed how much she valued her job.
The slow burn in this book was definitely there. The cute nicknames “hotshot” and “little demon” were such a nice added touch. I didn’t want to put this book down because I enjoyed seeing the differences in the characters. The ending was nice and I loved Ian’s gesture with the kitten and bark. I can’t wait to explore more books in the Willow Creek series.
“I might not look tough, but I’ve seen my share of the crap life likes to throw at you when you least expect it. I know how to pivot and I’m resilient.”
This book was so cute. I love books that give the Hallmark Romance movie vibes and this didn't disappoint.
They say it takes a village to raise children, which is exactly why Luz and her 3 kiddos moved to Willow Creek; to be closer to her brother and his fiancé. Luz wanted a fresh start and had applied to be a firefighter and paramedic working under a rugged, trauma filled fire Chief, Ian. Who, based on his past, really didn't want a single mom on the team. Watching these two fall in love and work through their past traumas was perfection.
I love how Andrea took the time to slowly introduce Ian to Luz's children, to show the struggles of a teen boy who was the "man of the house"as he adjusts to having another father figure around.
This was the first time I’ve been to Willow Creek, and I’m so thrilled to have been given this ARC because now I want to read the rest of the Willow Creek books.
Luz Martinez is a determined single mom and the first woman to join the Willow Creek Fire Department. She is tough, grounded, and doing everything she can to build a better life for her kids.
Ian Montgomery is her grumpy fire chief who did not want her on his team but quickly finds himself drawn to her. He tries to keep his distance but his sweet side comes out in the most heartwarming ways, especially with Luz’s children.
The chemistry between Luz and Ian is undeniable from the start. I loved how their connection built slowly as they worked through past trauma, personal growth, and a few small-town complications. Luz was a strong Latina lead without the usual clichés and that representation felt refreshing and real.
This book delivered all the cozy Hallmark romance vibes with just enough emotional depth to keep me hooked.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a warm, engaging read with just the right mix of emotion and romance. Luz is a strong, determined heroine who’s working hard to build a better life for her kids, and it was easy to admire her drive and resilience. I loved seeing her step into a role she’s proud of, even when it means facing doubt and resistance.
Ian is a complicated, well-meaning hero whose worries come from fear rather than cruelty. His inner struggle adds depth to the story, and the tension between him and Luz makes their slow-burn connection especially satisfying.
The small-town setting, family support, and workplace chemistry all come together nicely. This book delivers heartfelt moments, realistic challenges, and a romance that feels earned. A great choice if you enjoy stories about second chances, strong women, and love growing in unexpected places.
I received a complimentary copy from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Luz is a single mom starting over in Willow Creek with her three kids, ready to give her kids a better life and start her new job at Willow Creek Fire Department, yet what she doesn't realize is her new boss Ian didn't even want to hire her.
Ian doesn't want to hire Luz, not because she is a woman but she is a single mom and he has already lost crew members throughout his fire service, including his fiancé' who was a single mom. Even though Ian has a hard exterior deep down he is a big softy, especially when it comes to Luz and her children. I loved how strong Luz was and she didn't let anything stop her or put her down.
The slow burn and banter between Luz and Ian..chef's kiss! and the spice. This book had everything you needed to create a great small town slow burn. I finished this book in one sitting. This is my first book by Andrea and it won't be my last.
I absolutely LOVED this book!! Luz Martinez was such a powerful, inspiring character — strong, fierce, and an amazing mom to her kids. I was rooting for her from page one! She’s the kind of woman who doesn’t back down, even when the world is trying to break her.
Ian was the ultimate grump, and ooooh boy did he have some demons, but watching him open up and fall for Luz (and her kids 😭) had my heart in a chokehold. And can we talk about Ian’s mom?! I adored her — she added so much heart and healing to this story.
This book had the perfect balance of tension, heat, emotion, and heart. I flew through it and didn’t want it to end. Andrea Jenelle just gets it. Highly recommend if you love a grumpy x sunshine romance with found family feels and real emotional depth.
Luz is returning to her home town, a single mother of 3 and utterly broke. She is looking forward to starting a new job as a firefighter paramedic and being closer to her brother, Dex. The fire chief was not thrilled to hire her, but her credentials spoke loudly.
Luz discovers an issue with the new job almost immediately. Her new boss, fire chief Ian, is so handsome, but so grumpy. He has some past experiences he is still working through and is reluctant to send a mother out on jobs. But once he sees her in action, those feelings dim, but are replaced with attraction like he hasn't felt in years.
This story was sweet, and a bit heated. I enjoyed the interactions between the adults and children.
No Apologies is yet another reason I will forever hold the Willow Creek series in my heart. They are always a story full of growth and true love. No Apologies didn't disappoint one bit. I absolutely finished this book the same day i got it. Luz and Ian are just so perfect even though they both had to deal with some tradgies to get to where they are. My heart broke for Ian at times because he went through a tragedy that haunted him for years and almost destroyed him. Luz went through some hard things as well but she proved time and time again how strong she is. If anyone needs a great small-town romance, I won't hesitate to suggest No Apologies and all the other Willow Creek books as Andrea Jenelle never disappoints with her work.
another willow creek hit!!! i swear Andrea knows how to write a small town romance. i have not found one of these willow creek books i haven't liked. i always say i have a new favorite but i swear Ian and Luz just hit different. Luz a single mom returning to willow creek for her job and Ian a grumpy trauma having firefighter. he makes it hard for luz on the team but only because of his trauma. but you cant fight fate. these two together made flames.... pun intended. they tried so hard to keep it professional but the feelings wouldnt allow them not to mention Luz's kids and their devious little twister game debacle.... lol the banter between characters was gold and the story another hit i loved it so much.
Yet another great book from Andrea! we were introduced to Ian a while back and I've been curious about his story for a while so it was nice to finally be able to read it. This book deals with some very serious stuff, however, we can still somehow relate to the characters. Luz is strong and independent, she has had her unfair share of crap but she didn't let it weigh her down. Instead she used it to elevate herself and create a good life for herself and her kids. Ian, the not so grumpy Ian. The man has demons, as does every firefighter. Reading about them put him into better perspective and how he finally handled those demons was inspiring. It's never too late to seek the help we need. I don't want to give anything away, but this book is amazing and should definitely be read!!!
