During a restoration of Silver Peak's historic opera house, where luminaries such as Buffalo Bill and Sarah Bernhardt graced the stage in its heyday, workers discover an old, ornate pedestal safe that's been sealed in the walls. How long has it been there? And why would someone hide it in the opera house? Sadie can't wait to examine the rare antique to discover what treasures might be inside. If the safe is as valuable as she believes it to be, it could be sold to subsidize the opera house's restoration. but when threatening notes arrive, Sadie must race the clock to unlock its secrets before it's too late.
I hate even rating it this low. It’s an ok book, just the pacing in this series really tries my patience. I have one more in the series I was gifted but then I think I’m going to donate to a discount store. You can be a clean series without being boring but this series isn’t evidence of that sadly
The town is redoing an old opera house, a safe is found inside a wall. The safe it’s self is valuable and who knows what is inside. Sadie manages to open it and finds several WWII things, a bible with several verses about forgiveness and a letter written in German. She gets it translated and tries to figure out who owns the safe. A decades old mystery proves to be hard to solve. Interaction with her daughter, grandchildren and new boyfriend adds to the story.
The opera house is being restored, so Sadie is given a safe found in a wall to find out who it belongs to, and what is inside of it. Sadie starts getting letters telling her to stop trying to get information about the safe. Then her shop is broken into. Nothing is taken the first time, but the second time the thief takes the contents of the safe. Meanwhile, Edwin is running for Mayor and is wanting to spend more time with Sadie. Read the book to find if Sadie can figure out who the safe belongs to and who is sending her letters, and who broke into her shop. Also, does Sadie feel the same way Edwin does towards her? Enjoy.
Sadie owns an antique store and is interested in all historical artifacts. When she is given a safe found hidden in the old theater, she starts researching it's history. Threatening notes start coming but are they really threatening?
There is a light romance with Edwin who is running for mayor.
Who the owner of the safe was and why they want it to stay a secret did not become clear until the end of the store. Part of the Silver Peak mysteries.
I actually had the hardest time reading this book. I know it is old, but I have been trying for months. I finally had to stop halfway through and toss it in the donation pile. It had so much repetitive nonsense about details that, to me, dragged the storyline on and was very boring. Maybe it's my adhd, but I can't read a book that doesn't grasp my attention and keep it. The cover is beautiful, though!
What a fun project. Between the first and second books, I could tell the different styles in the authors' writing, but it made it more fun to read. Sweet cozy mysteries, written by different authors. About a town called Silver Peak in Colorado. Sadie, the antiques dealer, comes across mysteries and just has to solve them to her satisfaction and to the readers. I can't wait to read more of them.
This was another lovely mystery solved by the likable Sadie. I really like this series with mysteries to solve from years gone by that Sadie has to crack. Easy to read, soothing and fun describe this series and this book. Will devour this series!
Wonderful sequel in this series. I love the characters, Sadie, Edwin, Sadie's daughter and grandkids! I love the town and the people who live there. It's just a delightful book. It's easy to read, yet the mystery keeps you wondering "who done it"!
An old safe is found in the wall of the old theater as the theater was undergoing renovations. Sally takes the safe to her antique shop hoping to open the safe so she can find the owner and the reason it was hidden in the wall.
I loved this book. I was into the mystery from the very first pages. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me interested. I had trouble keeping the characters straight at times, but all in all a very fun read
This is the second book in the Christian Guideposts series Silver Peak Mysteries. They are set in the Colorado old silver mining town of Silver Peaks and feature the widowed Sadie Speers, known as the Antique Lady since she own the town's antique store.
The old opera house in Silver Peaks is being restored. Workmen find a valuable old ornate safe hidden in a wall. They bring it to Sadie who finally is able to open it after much trouble. The contents are not impressive or valuable but someone wants them enough to break into her shop and send her anonymous letters. While not threatening, the letters beg her to drop her investigation to save a family from being ruined. The notes make her uncomfortable but Sadie can't stop until she solves the mystery.
As in book #1, there are many typos. That's my only complaint about this series.
Probably only 3.5 stars. A cozy little Christian history/mystery involving a WWII-era secret and an old safe. Speaking of safe, this series is "caffeine free." There is absolutely nothing in this book that will trigger your atrial fib, unless your trigger is religion.
Nobody's Safe is pretty much an advertisement for the perfection which is Colorado -- somewhere between Xanadu and Shangri-la. Everything except the food, that is. On page 204, our protagonist, Sadie Speers, an antique dealer and amateur sleuth, goes to a place that, according to her, makes "the best pizza in Colorado" and she orders a Hawaiian. 🤢🤮
I liked it but not as much as the first in the series. It was much slower and the mystery seemed forced. There was more character development in this one. Sadie continued to struggle with whether or not she wanted to take her relationship with Edwin from friendship to dating.
The second in the series - written by a different author which caught me a bit! Another fun cozy Christian mystery. Exciting place, fun characters. I preferred the writing in the first book.
