Colonial Gothic

Colonial Gothic: Rulebook

Rate this book
You know the history.

All have read about the founding of America. This history shows what led to the American Revolution and the cry for independence. The history is clear, and there is no real dispute over these events.

Or is there?

There is a secret history, and this history deals with events that took place in the shadows. These events played a role in the history of the American colonies and the Revolution that few know about.

The truth is hidden, and plots are afoot. Events are moving behind the scenes, and lurking in the shadows are agents with their own agenda.

War is coming. The Siege of Boston is lifted, and General Washington is leading the Continental Army to New York. The enemies are many, but as to who they are, you do not know.

Colonial Gothic is a supernatural historical horror roleplaying game set during the dawn of the American Revolution.

Nice RPG based Based before/ during the War for Independence. Very streamlined rules, point buy system to create characters and well written. Lots of good information about the colonies. Includes a bestiary.

Cool background history for the RPG game. My husband is hoping it will inspire me to play...as I am a History Geek. 🙃

This game is ultimately not ready for prime time. The systems are incoherent, the writing is poorly edited and fundamentally subpar for the genre (meaning alternate historical RPGs as a whole) and, to be blunt, the ideas are derivative. Nothing here is new, except that it's historical setting is about a century earlier than the idiom would normally employ.

Werewolf: the Apocalypse and Deadlands have done this before, and done it better. The ideas are insufficient to justify another game.

As one of the authors of the book I'm not going to review it.

However I will say that working on this project was an interesting experience and the lessons I learned about certain people in the industry are invaluable.
