Irritating. I like the plot but the characters grate on my nerves. Bren is obtuse and don't let me start about Faye! She was as clingy as old ivy and barnacles. One of the worst things was when she told Bren "I will never be happy if you say no to me" and Bren was all "Then I can't tell you no". Well he simply didn't seem attracted to her at all. He actually acted as if he wasn't attracted to anyone. He let the others drag him around and couldn't say no to anyone. Couldn't he have dumped Faye since it is clear he doesn't really care about her? He didn't think of her at all when she wasn't attached to his arm or staring at him with soulful eyes!
Another bad moment was the scene where the two queens arrived racing their carriages. Someone asked "What's wrong with them?" And the answer was: "They are women." I'll not comment further on that.
Other than that, this book needs editing. In several places Bren's name is switched with Thad's and there were a lot of questions without question mark at the end.
Sooo the female characters are mostly shallow and the male main character is usually an amoebic pushover with a few rare moments of awareness of his own inadequacy.
But I will give this book three stars because the story was interesting. Don't know if I'll keep reading when the next one comes out though.

I had to give this book 5 starts because even though it was rife with bad grammar, Spelling and misused words I was so caught up in the story I could not put it down and had to immediately move on to the next book when finished.

Grammar and spelling

I am enjoying the story, but would like it better if someone had proofread the book successfully. I need to figure out how many of the words are meant to read
