I love the Titanian Chronicles by Victoria Saccenti, so when I came across this book, I was certain I would enjoy it—and I was right! Culgan is the first book in the Freki Wolf Clan series, and it’s an incredible start to the series. It's even better that we get to see characters from the Titanian world as well.
Defending the hidden Freki stronghold is second nature to them, but it could also spell their doom. Once Roisin embraces her wolf form, she discovers her fated mate, Culgan, and becomes something she has longed for: a Griffin rider. As they bond, they share each other’s powers.
In this beautifully written, magical paranormal world, we encounter magic, shapeshifters, griffins, evil demons, fated mates, epic battles, drama, danger, tension, and so much more. The story is intense and intriguing, making it hard to put down.
Reading about griffins alongside dire wolves is a first for me and feels both exciting and unique. I'm eager to see where Victoria takes the Freki clan next, as it can only get better from here!

Culgan is book 2 of the "Freki Wolf Clan" series by Victoria Saccenti. Im an absolute sucker for anything to do with shifters, of any kind, so of course I was gonna find this sooner or later! This is a new author to me, and regardless of me not having read the first book, this was absolutely addictive. I devoured this book in just a day and a half, I was so invested in this read. I highly recommend giving this author a chance, I didn't regret it and I heavily doubt you will either!

I have read books by this talented author before but this is the first Paranormal book by her that I have read. I have to say I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading more. Fated Mates, such as Roisin and Culgan, in a paranormal world is always a draw for me. Add in Shapeshifters and Magic, along with a captivating and intense storyline and I am hooked.

This was a good book. Loved the direwolf shifters riding griffins. Gods, mages, demons, fates mates, seers, what’s not to love. Now I have to go and find the beginning of these stories since there are other people who are obviously very important to the world and I need to hear their stories.

Victoria Saccenti’s Culgan is a rich and magical tale set in a world where direwolves, gryphons, and ancient magic exist in powerful harmony. The story follows Roisin, a young woman on the verge of discovering her destiny as a direwolf shifter, and Culgan, a seasoned warrior and heir to the Freki clan. As a dark force reawakens in the world, Roisin undergoes her shift with Culgan’s help, and together they find themselves bound by fate, ancient prophecy, and a rising evil that threatens the balance of their realm. The narrative weaves romance, fantasy, political intrigue, and supernatural battles into a tight, emotional adventure.

I found myself drawn in almost instantly by Saccenti’s worldbuilding. Her ability to blend myth, lore, and visceral details into a living, breathing world is impressive. The Freki stronghold, the gryphons’ bond with their riders, and the mystical laws of the universe all come alive with elegant precision. But it was the emotional depth of Roisin’s awakening, the fear, the wonder, the pain, and eventual triumph, that left the strongest impression on me. Her transformation didn’t feel like just another magical puberty metaphor. It felt real. And Culgan, stoic and noble, struck the perfect balance between protector and partner. Their connection had a slow-burn warmth that felt earned.

At times, the story takes a pause to dive deep into the background and inner thoughts, which can slow the pace a little. And I felt some of the dialogue leaned toward the polished side, feeling a bit more formal than the story's otherwise grounded and emotional style. Still, these moments felt intentional and helped flesh out the world and its history. But these moments were few, and the rest more than made up for them. The villains felt truly menacing. The magic felt ancient and consequential. And when Saccenti brings in darker themes like abandonment, manipulation, and power struggles, and she doesn’t sugarcoat it.

Culgan is a heartfelt and exciting fantasy that reads like a coming-of-age epic blended with a deep, magical love story. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy immersive fantasy worlds with strong female leads, loyal found families, and just the right touch of romance. It’s perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas or Patricia Briggs, especially those craving more complex shifter lore and mythology. Saccenti writes with conviction, and her story pulses with emotion. I walked away from the last page feeling satisfied, hopeful, and more than a little tempted to dive back into her world again.

Roisin longs to be a gryphon rider, to shift for the first time and finally take her place among the other gryphon riders of her clan, and protect the ones she cares about. However, things are never easy, and when she does feel her inner wolf rise for the first time, it's within a cloud of evil magic that threatens to stop her shift and silence her. But Culgan, a warrior of the Freki clan and someone Roisin has admired and loved from afar, is there to protect her, guiding her through battling the darkness that engulfs her and leading her out on her first run as a fully shifted wolf. Their bond grows deeper as they train together, but darkness creeps ever closer, threatening the Freki clan and everyone that Roisin cares about.

This book really wasn’t my jam. While I thought that the world Saccenti created was interesting and vibrant, and the elements of magic and the way they were described within the story were pretty cool (the gryphon rider element was interesting), I just couldn’t get into this. I’m not a massive fan of werewolf books, and the ones I have enjoyed have leaned more towards the horror rather than the fantasy. I will say that Saccenti writes interesting characters, who are sympathetic and grounded, and it was interesting following Roisin as she grew into herself and became more confident with shifting. The romance was pretty good, although I, for some reason, struggled with the age differences. I don’t know whether it was because Roisin came across as being younger when I was reading, or the fact that she was shifting for the first time, but I struggled with it. I’m not sure why, because I have read romances with a similar sort of dynamic and not had an issue. Saccenti also wrote the dynamic pretty well, too. I think I ight have gotten into this more as well if I had read the first book in the series and gotten some context for the lore of the world Saccenti has created, as it is pretty rich and complex. Think I may go back and read that and try this book again at a later date.

I would recommend this book and the series to anyone who likes a good werewolf romance with lots of mystery, magic and intrigue. As previously stated, the world that Saccenti has created is rich and vibrant and entirely unique. Well worth the read if you’re looking for a new series to sink your teeth into.

In Culgan, the first installment of what promises to be a lush, emotionally charged fantasy romance, Victoria Saccenti plunges readers into a vividly imagined world of gryphon riders, wolf shifters, and ancient magic. With a fierce heroine, an emotionally complex alpha mate, and a looming war threatening to destroy everything they love, Culgan blends high-stakes fantasy with a deeply sensual fated-mates romance that will leave fans of paranormal and epic fantasy swooning.

At the heart of the story is Roisin Hati, a young warrior-to-be impatiently awaiting the awakening of her inner wolf. Her dreams of joining the elite gryphon riders of her clan are interrupted when a cloud of dark magic unexpectedly triggers her transformation—and lands her in the presence of Culgan, the powerful and brooding direwolf warrior sworn to protect her people. What follows is a slow-burn journey into trust, power, and the primal call of destiny.

Saccenti’s worldbuilding is rich and layered, filled with tribal customs, mystical bloodlines, and the bond between humans and magical beasts. The Freki stronghold feels alive with history and purpose, and the political undercurrents simmer just beneath the surface. The threat of an ancient daemon rising from the desert adds a looming sense of dread and urgency, propelling the story forward with both action and suspense.

But it’s the bond between Roisin and Culgan that gives the novel its emotional center. Their connection is immediate, raw, and charged with tension—not just sexual, but emotional and spiritual. Culgan, the reluctant protector with a tortured past, is the perfect foil to Roisin’s youthful fire and determination. Their mating isn’t just about desire—it’s about surrender, loyalty, and discovering strength in vulnerability.

What sets Culgan apart from typical shifter romances is Saccenti’s elegant prose and careful character development. Both leads are fully realized individuals with past traumas, dreams, and insecurities, and their love story unfolds organically amid trials of war, prophecy, and sacrifice. Saccenti also avoids easy tropes, allowing her characters to wrestle with choices that carry real emotional consequences.

Culgan is a gryphon rider, a Freki Clan warrior and the next in line for the throne, he is devoted to this life and has no time for romance or bonding, so he throws himself into his duties. One of these duties is to investigate an attack on an outlying shifter village and when he gets there, he finds one lone young wolf who is close to death and he makes the decision to take him back to the palace.

Roisin is a young woman with a dream, she wants to be a gryphon rider and is fully prepared for everything that entails and all she has to do is now wait for her sleeping wolf to awaken, but she also has an eye for the leader of the riders. One day, she sneaks into the audience chamber of her godparents as she has a feeling something will happen that she doesn't want to miss out on, so when Culgan enters with an injured wolf, she immediately senses something is wrong, but she cannot say anything because she is being silenced by dark magic.

As soon as Culgan senses a wolf in trouble, he immediately goes to help, the fact that it is Roisin makes the pull even stronger and after helping her to battle the forces blocking her shift, he takes her for her first run, this is when their bond begins to form. Roisin shows Culgan that she has the intuition to help him and her strength and determination are prevalent as she goes through the intense training period, but things are not smooth going for the two, they try to deny their bond, but eventually they succumb to the mating fire and become stronger because of it.

Meanwhile, dark forces, a Daemon and Goddess make a bargain to extinguish the light of the Freki Clan and work together to take the battle from exile to the Clan, but can Culgan and Roisin work together to save their people, or will they burn before their relationship begins to sizzle? This is a romantic fantasy with twists and turns throughout which will keep you guessing and reading throughout.

Culgan (Freki Wolf Clan #2) by Victoria Saccenti

This isn't the first book I’ve read by the author. I read the books backwards not realizing it. Culgan is the second book in the Freki Wolf Clan Series. Again these can be read in order or they can be read as standalones. Culgan is a fantastic read and it competes with Brynjar for book of the year.

Culgan is the heir to the Freki Wolf Clan and he is usually out on missions instead of being social with the citizens of his land. He brings back an injured young wolf who is infested with Dark Magic and it isn’t good. Then the Dark Magic brings forth a wolf that Culgan can hear. Without thinking about it he takes the young wolf on their first run. He takes her somewhere and tells her this: “A word of warning and some history, little wolf.” His tone was careful and slow. “Magic is new to you. Until you have more experience, think human in a private place. If not, you’ll display your lovely human physique without a stitch of clothing to those present. We used to think only the Frekis shifted to human form with their clothes on. As centuries passed, we’ve discovered other major direwolf clans, such as the Hatis, Geris, and Vuks have the same ability, but to summon this power requires trial and error. In time, you’ll wield enough magic to produce clothes with your shift.”

Roisin is one of Sable’s best friends and has been in love with Culgan since she could remember. When Sable is at a dinner with her and Culgan she mentions the mating fire to Roisin. She tells Roisin that she thinks that her and Culgan are mates. After connecting with her gryphon Culgan comes to her and claims his mating call on her. She tells him this after encountering something dangerous: “Whatever it is, we can talk about it in our room behind closed doors. You know the saying about ears, walls, and things like that.”

This is the second book in the Freki Clan series. I have to admit this author is one of my favourites. I never hesitate to pick up a book written by this author because I am always transported to a world that is magical and dangerous, with magnificent creatures and a fated mate story that is so powerful you can't help but be dragged in from the beginning to the end.
This is a paranormal romance, with fated mates elements, danger, evil and challenges to the Freki Clan and the romance between Rosin and Culgan
Rosin has always had dreams of being a warrior but she needs her wolf to awaken to fulfil that dream.
When Culgan rescuses a pub he brings back more than an evil pup he brings evil that could threaten the clan.
As the evil builds it finally awakens Rosins wolf and Culgan realises that she is his mate.
As Rosin continues to try and settle into life as Culgan's mate the danger and evil keeps growing. Something is preparing to attack the clan and they need to stop it before it succeeds.
This is a story about good and evil and fighting to save and protect what is yours from the forces of darkness. I love a fated mate story as they are so strong and powerful and what I love even more is that Rosin is strong and powerful and can handle herself which is great to read a strong female lead without it taking away from the Alpha male strength.

I loved this story and I can't wait to read more

Culgan by Victoria Saccenti

This book is a mix of paranormal romance and fantasy. Roisin has long dreamed of riding gryphons and awakening her inner wolf, but one day she’s thrust onto a path she never expected. Culgan is a direwolf who responds to her emerging power with fierce protectiveness and undeniable command . This is the second book dealing with the Freki stronghold and soaring gryphon riders. It is a story filled with clans, ancient gods, and a looming demonic threat.
Culgan is the brooding, alpha-driven warrior—his presence raw, protective, and irresistibly fierce. Roisin, with her white hair and determined spirit, is no damsel: she’s a fighter, both training in battle and confronting the power stirring within her. Their connection burns with a passionate intensity. The story is filled with danger, demons, goddesses, and a destiny that could shatter the Freki
Although I didn’t read part one, the author provided enough information so that I wasn’t too lost. It had a bit of everything, wolves, demons and magic. The chemistry was sizzling between Roisin and Culgan which kept me wanting more. This is a great paranormal romance and now I have to read part one.

This is a part of the Freki Wolf Clan series. It plunges you into a world where ancient instincts collide with looming threats. Roisin has long dreamt of becoming a gryphon rider and defending her clan. She becomes impatient waiting for her inner wolf to awaken, only to get more than she bargained for when a cloud of dark magic awakens it, bringing forth a powerful direwolf. The emergence of Roisin's wolf stirs an irresistible primal urge within Culgan, a warrior of the hidden Freki stronghold who has never before prioritized bonding. As Roisin navigates her battle training, Culgan becomes her unwavering guide. As Roisin and Culgan's bond deepens into a powerful mating union, dark forces gather, threatening their blossoming relationship. A vengeful daemon, empowered by a goddess, seeks to destroy the Freki, forcing Roisin, Culgan, and the gryphon riders to confront the ultimate sacrifice to save their kingdom. I loved how the intricate world-building weaves a narrative rich in passion, action, and high stakes that keep the pages turning. The blend of supernatural romance, thrilling battles, and deeply emotional bonds makes for an enjoyable read.

This book is by an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book. I enjoy their creative writing skills that make her characters pop off the pages. They bring their story to life and keep you coming back for more. This book is no different. This is a well written story about bonds and sacrifice. Roisin and Culgan’s story is one of a journey of bonding, mating and saving a kingdom from a deamon who wants revenge. This is a story that is full of action and romance as well. Roisin and Culgan are great characters that have an attraction that they cannot deny and chemistry as well. I enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story which made the story easy to read. They are connectable and relatable and I enjoyed how supportive the other characters were to them. This is a fast paced, engaging story that is hard to put down. This is the second book in this series and I highly suggest reading the previous book as well. This is a great story that I enjoyed reading and I highly recommend this book.

Culgan by Victoria Saccenti is Book 2 of the Freki Clan series. Culgan is the future Alpha of the Freki clan. Roisin has dreamed of becoming a griffon-riding warrior, and she has been waiting for her wolf to awaken so she could begin training. Culgan brings back a wounded wolf pup he rescued after receiving a distress call from a neighboring village. Unfortunately, the pup was infested with evil, which Culgan brought back to his clan. The black cloud of evil was just what was needed for Roisin’s inner wolf to awaken. When Culgan saw Roisin in her wolf form, he knew she was his fated mate. As Roisin continues training as a warrior, she is settling into her new role as Culgan’s mate. The clan is aware that an evil force is preparing for war against the Freki clan, and the Freki are preparing for the attack. The world that Ms. Saccenti creates is full of magic, magical creatures, as well as love and action. This story is a wonderful look into a magical world. If you love mythical, magical worlds, read this book.

"This was a fast, engaging paranormal romance that pulled me in right away. Roisin’s impatience to awaken her inner wolf and prove herself as a gryphon rider made her an easy heroine to root for, especially once her awakening comes in such a dangerous, unexpected way. I loved how her growth was tied directly to battle training and survival, not just romance.

Culgan is very much the intense, protective warrior type, and his bond with Roisin develops quickly but with plenty of emotional weight. Their connection feels instinctive and powerful, and the way he guides her through both training and transformation worked well for the story. The mating bond is passionate and dramatic, fitting the high-stakes world they live in.

The larger plot with the daemon threat and looming sacrifice added urgency and kept the story from feeling too contained. While some elements moved quickly, the mix of action, romance, and mythology made this a fun and satisfying read, especially for fans of fated mates, warriors, and epic fantasy stakes."

Culgan, the future Alpha of the Freki Wolk Clan is a griffon riding warrior. Getting hit with the mating fever when they are facing threats from an ancient enemy is NOT on his adgenda, or good timing - Fate doesn't care! When dark magic causes Roisin's wolf to struggle, Culgan rises to the challenge and assists. Thus starts their bonding process, again, at the worst time possible... or is it? This book is full of mystical fantasy and multiple clans. While Culgan and Roisin are the primaries, the secondary cast is impressive and dreadfully pertinent to the story. Some are in it for the positive, and some are purveyors of dark magic. Admittedly, a couple of the scenes with the "villians" are quite engrossing, and one almost feels sorry for them... almost! You will find yourself getting lost in this battle between good and evil, and of course the romance that blossoms in the midst of it all. Honestly, I can't wait for the next book in this clan's story.

Roisin has always dreamed of something more. When she finally embraces her wolf side, she gets it. She discovers her fated mate, Culgan, a gryphon-riding warrior and future Alpha of the Freki Wolf Clan. Together, they form a powerful bond and even share each other’s magic. But with danger looming and an ancient enemy rising, the timing couldn’t be worse... or maybe it’s exactly right.

This story is packed with magic, shapeshifters, gryphons, demons, and intense battles. The mix of dire wolves and gryphons felt really unique and exciting. There's also a strong supporting cast, some good, some dark and twisted, and plenty of emotional and romantic moments to keep things interesting.

At times, it was a bit hard to keep track of all the different clans and bits of information being thrown at you, but the world is so intriguing it pulls you in anyway. I’m really curious to see where the Freki clan’s journey goes next!

Culgan is the second book in the Freki Wolf Clan by Victoria Saccenti. This is a paranormal romance, with shifters, dire wolves, gryphon riders, fated mates, fantasy, action, adventure, drama, danger, intrigue, tension, mythological elements, dark forces, a plot for revenge, magic, warriors, good vs evil, sacrifice, and high stakes.
Roisin and Culgan have quite the tale to tell, and I was engrossed right from the get-go. Fate certainly threw some challenges in their path and Ms. Saccenti put them through their paces- but I was invested in them and the outcome of their story, avidly following along to find out how everything played out in the end.
With Ms. Saccenti’s wonderfully descriptive writing and clever details, the story was brought the story to life, leaping off the pages. The author’s world building being both imaginative and well-constructed, which all resulted in a richly vivid tale.
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Victoria Saccenti!

Culgan by Victoria Saccenti is the second book in the Freki Clan series. This book centers around Roisin Hati and Culgan Freki. Roisin is a fierce, determined woman in the Freki clan, determined to awaken her latent wolf-shifter nature. She is unexpectedly psychically bonded to Culgan, who is an intensely protective, archetypal alpha shifter with emotional depth. Battling between loyalty to his clan and the connection to Roisin Culgan, he must find a way to balance both sides of his life, otherwise he could lose both of them.
World building is a welcome familiarity with other romantasy style writings, and the instant mate trope brings excitement, but I did feel a bit rushed throughout the book. I think this was a good book, but I felt like it was missing something to really draw me in. If you love mainstream romantasy or alpha/mate themes, then this is a book to check out. I highly recommend reading the books in order to get the best layout of this series.

Culgan (Freki Wolf Clan) by Victoria Saccenti. This is the second book in the Freki Wolf Clan and its a great addition. It's the continuation of Roisin and Culgan's story and they are so fun. I love their chemistry. Roisin has always dreamed of more than where she is now, so when her inner wolf side awakens she embraces it. She also finds out that Culgan is her fated mate and he is the future Alpha of the Freki Wolf Clan. Culgan is also a griffon riding warrior and Roisin dreams of becoming one as well. Together they are fated mates and are forming a strong bond but when dark magic causes Roisin's wolf to struggle Culgan is there is take care of it. They are facing threats from an ancient enemy right when they decide to mate, bad timing for sure but they get the job done. Sharing powers and love they are a formidable team. Will they be able to survive all that's thrown at them? Such a great book full of magic, shape shifters, demons, and crazy battles. A fast paced thrilling read!

Interesting little treat for a summer Saturday being lazy while it rains. Every time I pick up a Victoria Saccenti book, I know I am in for or good story. The perfect blend of the plot, the emotions, the chemistry keeps you going. While this is the second book in the Freki Wolf Clan series I had not previously read book one and didn’t find myself confused while reading this one though I do plan to go back and read it while waiting for what comes next in this new series.
Roisin has prepared her entire life to be a gryphon rider and awakening her wolf. Culgan is the future Alpha of the Freki Clan and when he first meets Roisin, he senses something stronger. A cloud of evil magic is just the thing she needed to finally awaken her wolf and the moment it does there is no doubt they are bonded mates. With each other at their sides they grow stronger as they defend Freki. Will they succeed or will they lose too much?

Roisin Hati dreams of being a gryphon rider and defending her clan, but for how she must settle on improving her grpund combat skills. As Roisin is training with the dire wolf, Culgan, she is also impatiently waiting for her inner wolf to awaken. It finally happens but in an unexpected way. Culgan is a warrior defending the Freki so bonding, or finding a mate, has never been the top priority. It comes as a surprise to him that Roisin has awoken that part of his instincts. As they spend more time together, their bond becomes stronger and they ultimately mate. Although things seem to be going well there is danger on the horizon. A daemon hell bent on getting revenge has made a bargain with a goddess to be able to destroy the Freki. The gryphon riders may need to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep the kingdom from falling. This story has great world building and likeable characters. The author did a great job describing things and brought a whole world to life with words.

I was really excited to started reading this story as this author is never one that fails to entertain me. I love how diverse her writing always seems to be and how interesting her characters are. I loved reading about Culgan and Roisin. Their connection was instant and the chemistry between them was hard to deny. But with a force to deal with, their path was never going to be easy.
From the moment I started reading this book I was easily pulled into the story line. The author described everything in a way that made you feel like you were there on the same adventure. The storyline is imaginative and a really exciting read. I would highly recommend this book, and anything from this author!

I fully enjoy all of this author’s work, and this book just added another winner to the collection. It was such an exciting ride! The world building was on point and the character development was amazing. There is such palpable tension between Roisin and Culgan and it pulls you in as they both navigate their feeling and looming threats. Their bond is both tender and intense though, making their love story stand out. As the stakes get higher, it was impossible not to get swept up in the tension of whether they’ll survive what’s coming. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you absolutely hooked on its action, romance, and those irresistible slow burn moments, this one is for you! Buckle up for strong bonds, intense magic, and a battle for survival.

Victoria Saccenti’s Culgan is an irresistible mix of romance, myth, and danger. Roisin’s long-awaited awakening and her bond with Culgan are written with passion and authenticity, making their connection feel both fated and hard-won. The chemistry between them burns bright, yet what makes the story stand out is how it balances tenderness, loyalty, and fierce devotion.

The worldbuilding is equally captivating the Freki stronghold, the gryphon riders, and the desert backdrop are vivid and immersive, while the looming threat of a vengeful daemon adds real urgency. Saccenti blends action, emotion, and sensuality seamlessly, creating a book that feels legendary yet deeply personal. Culgan is a thrilling, heartfelt read that lingers long after the final page.

This is the second book in this series but you can read this one without having read the first one and still have a good understanding of what's going on but I do recommend reading them in order. This book had plenty of action, romance, and magic. I was pulled into this story from the start. The author built a world that took me on an adventure and kept me entertained and turning pages. This author never disappoints. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read what the author has in store for us next.

What a great read! I loved seeing old friends from the Titanian World. The Freki Wolf world is amazing and will continue to get better and better. The pairing of gryphons with direwolfs is brilliant. They have their own special powers that pass from each bonded pair that is unique. The book was gripping with battles, steamy scenes with powerful allies and victorious outcomes with great losses. The tidbits of the cliffhanger was intriguing. I highly recommend this book.

A world filled with magic and magical creatures in many forms. Culgan is a gryphon riding direwolf shifter and the son of the leader of the Freki clan leader, An old enemy threatens the Freki Clan and it is going to take every bit of skill Culgan possesses to overcome them. Now is not the perfect time to find your bond mate, a newly minted gryphon rider.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rich tapestry of this world and look forward to future visits.
