I've never watched the cartoon so I'm judging this more on just the comic itself and I didn't really enjoy it. I loved the artwork as I always do but Knuckles was dumbed down to a "dumb blonde" kind of character which really irked me. The other characters in the classic Sonic The Hedgehog comic are way more mature than they are in this series.
It's way more childish which I didn't expect nor did I actually appreciate. Even as a child I wouldn't of enjoyed this series. It's a shame to be honest and I have the second in the series to read. I guess the only good thing is IF you want something super light to read then this is the comic for you. Otherwise, if you've only read the OG Sonic and never heard of Sonic Boom then you've been warned.

A new take on old characters and a new one too: Sticks! These new heroes are really enjoyable to read. The team’s way of acting with each other is great! The only problem with these comics are the story seems a bit weak and their adventures are a bit pointless and short. But maybe in the next volume, it will be better.

I liked this. It's pretty much like the animated series. I think my favorite one was Amy Rose's missing hammer. The one I hated was Sticks'. I actually don't like her at all, even in the show. She has a hateful personality. Because of her, the rating will miss one star. I have to add that the art is suuuuuuper amazing. Man! I wanna become able to draw like that.

One thing Sega knows are comic books. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that it’s pretty entertaining. Naturally you wouldn’t think it should work. (A comic based off a TV show spin-off from a video game that gamers try to ignore.) This book is very self-aware, comical, and different from what Sonic has had before. Unlike the comic’s; Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic X, Sonic Universe (Probably the archives and sub-books as well) This book isn’t heavy with story and it focuses more on comedy. They do repeat jokes (Such as fancy intros and yellow boxes used for ‘previously seen on issue #_’ tropes) a bit throughout the book I don’t really consider much of a crime here.
The book does break the third wall but not to the degree that it’s page breaking.
Strangely enough when skimming through the book the character seem fuller more developed and well-rounded than they do on the show. (Don’t get me wrong knuckles is still dense, and Sticks is still conspiratorial but not to such an extreme as the show represents them.)
I love how Cub Bot references Scratcher, Grounder, Decode, and Bocode in one instance. Even the last line in the story is a known Eggman quote from the videogames, “GET A Load OF THIS!” (Sonic Adventure 1)
The art is awesome and this book cover is just great! No obvious stock images to be quickly noticed. The image of Tails on this cover is just great really like the art choice on him and Sticks especially. (They all look amazing individually to.) Only little nit-pick would be the cover didn’t need Claw Bot on the cover. It just seems awkward and it doesn’t fit there well. He’s not even in the issue.
The only picture that confuses me is the havoc The Rock of Justice had on Big Boy. I had trouble figuring out the cohesion between the pictures.” I did figure it out but it took me way too long. (My bad.) The fan art is great addition as always. I don’t think they needed 4 Off Panel pages dedicated to mailing Sega/Archie letters.

The cartoon is a very strange entity, placed squarely between "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" in terms of wacky, nonsensical fun, and "Sonic X" for having a overall strange group of animals as the last defense against a madman who likes robots.
So the comic version is equally fun, but nonthreatening. Never reaching anything ambitious as far as storytelling goes, but it is somewhat entertaining to see these weirdos interact in ways slightly different than what we're used to.
