ASIN moved from less recent edition

Lizzie Petrie doesn’t know how people manage parenting, friendship, or life.

Watching four children is hard work. This is something Lizzie’s wife, Sarah, knows about. She’s been doing it for six years.

As the kids grow older, Sarah is reaching her breaking point and pleads with Lizzie to do more to pitch in. Lizzie is certain she can do it on her own.

Lizzie is wrong.

When Sarah goes back to work full-time, Lizzie reaches the end of her rope. Her solution? Installing a secret bunker in the basement. The only problem is preventing Sarah from finding out when the construction project turns out to be just as hard as everything else in Lizzie’s life.

Can Lizzie hold it together or will everything crumble down around her, including her marriage?

This was way too short a read but I really enjoyed it. I love catching up with Lizzie, Sarah and the Petrie family. Lizzie's quirky randomness is something I can totally relate to and Sarah's patience is definitely a blessing to have in a partner... I love their back and forth, and their kids are adorable.

I always look forward to reading what Lizzie is up too. I think she did a good job of stepping up to do some adulting. Of course it is about time she gives Sarah a break. They always work through their issues and come out stronger for it. They are truly a perfect pair.

Lizzie is in over her head but she just can't see it.

Lizzie is one of the most amazing women. From the very beginning she could not see the very jewel that she is- oh she is a great professor, an amazing mind but getting through life as a Petrie has been a rough journey. This book had me laughing from page one and crying as Lizzie made her way through changes in life the only way she thinks she can, by herself. The mishaps, outright misunderstood moments and navigating 4 kids, just as many adults and trying to make "friends" with the mommy groups take more than she can imagine. I love how Sarah who seems mad at her often can still stand in Lizzie's corner and help he see things differently. The fun, odd laughter and just bizarre moments make this a great read. It has been so great a series. Book 10 is just the one to let us see her struggle to accept herself and those who love her.
I received the book as an ARC reader but as I have with all of the Lizzie series I buy to add it to my collection. I will enjoy the reread often. Each character has a unique place, story to tell and I love Lizzie.

Well, binged the whole series and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I love Sarah and Lizzy, the kids and their circle of friends and relatives. I am really glad the Markinson already has some ideas for the next Lizzy-book. Would love to read more about her clan.
My rating for the series as a whole is 5 stars.

Lizzie is one of my favourite characters and I was so happy to get to read another story about her and her family. The only thing I‘m going to complain about is that it wasn’t a full length novel and it felt like as soon as I started it I was already finished with the book.

But this complain isn’t really a complain. It just shows how much I love this story. Then what always happens when it comes to Lizzie’s stories is that I get sucked in right from the start. It’s what happened once again. Lizzie doesn’t fit in and says what’s on her mind which of course often is the wrong thing. Or just not what other people expect. And then there is her always needing much longer to figure out something. She usually needs more than one push by others to see the full picture. At first that makes her look selfish in some situations and she definitely gets on the nerves of her wife Sarah. This often leads to some very funny scenes. The ideas Lizzie comes up with in her whole Lizzie way are just hilarious. Let me tell you this novella definitely includes another wonderful idea by her. Lol

But in the end Lizzie is just so lovable in her whole being. She has the purest heart and just wants to do everything right. And even if she always thinks she is better on her on, deep inside she knows this isn’t the whole truth. In the end we all need love.

Exactly all of the things I just mentioned are the reason I love her so much. I feel close because I can relate so much to all her feelings and how she reacts in some situations. I realise that I haven’t mentioned a lot about the story itself and I’m just wondering what I should add. I think everyone who knows and loves Lizzie will just want to read the book no matter what. And what I can tell you, you won’t get disappointed. I definitely think you need to go on this ride with Lizzie once again. Watch her grow more into being an actual parent. Watch how she and Sarah handle some changes in their lives and just what makes them to the wonderful family they are. I hope when you go on this ride you have as much fun as I had.

A Woman in Hiding by T.B. Markinson is the tenth book in the A Woman Lost series. The first book in the series was published nearly ten years ago. Over the course of its lifetime, the main character of the series has become adored by its readers. This adoration has inspired fans to collectively write nearly 3,000 Amazon reviews for the books. Almost all of these reviews gush about Lizzie’s undeniable likability and uncanny charm. When Markinson recently announced she intended to end the series, Lizzie fans were crushed.

The disappointment from fans was predictable, but Markinson seemed surprised by their emotional outcry. She received countless emails detailing just how important Lizzie had become to them, and it gobsmacked her. She was amazed by their attachment to Lizzie, a nerdy, awkward fictional character. She stated that she “had no idea the impact Lizzie [had] on so many.”

Once Markinson realized how special Lizzie was to her fans, she was forced to reconsider the future of the series. Markinson now says that Lizzie will live beyond A Woman in Hiding. She reports that new story ideas are already percolating in her head. However, she wants readers to know these ideas will need time to sit before she can shape them into workable stories. It’s paramount to her that she not mess up Lizzie’s arc and disappoint her fans.

Markinson’s A Woman Lost series is an “evolving” series. She regularly incorporates world and U.S. events into its narrative. It all works to facilitate a journey for Lizzie and her nearest and dearest. It’s one that’s sometimes fraught with potholes and patchy pavement, but fans wouldn’t want it any other way. And, much like her Lizzie character, Markinson is a detail-oriented person, so it’s understandable that she would want time to formulate new plot points and character developments. The Petrie clan always seems to have a lot going on; Markinson wants to get it right. After all of the blood, sweat and tears (Lizzie’s, not Markinson’s 😂), Markinson is entitled!

If you are unfamiliar with Lizzie and her clan, I’d strongly suggest getting to know them. They are an endearing, affable group well worth knowing. This especially holds true for Lizzie. She’s an exceptionally well-written and well-developed character. Markinson manages to craft character growth and inspire change with each new narrative, making Lizzie more compelling and dimensional each time. Readers are ready and willing to embrace not only her journey, but the trajectory of it. It stands to reason; it’s always proven itself to be relatable, convincing and honest.

Since plotting and planning is important to Markinson, she has A Woman in Hiding picking up the threads of A Woman Unhinged (book nine) and marching it forward nicely. The Petries are settling into their new home in Massachusetts nicely after the move from Colorado, and Lizzie is growing comfortable in her new position at Wellesley College. Even though change has been a major theme in the Petrie family as of late, it isn’t something Lizzie relishes. However, it’s served her life well. She’s morphed from a single and unattached grad student from Colorado into a happily married college professor raising four kids in an upscale Massachusetts suburb. Readers can count on this though: At a fundamental level Lizzie will always remain a bumbling, socially awkward nerd.

Knowing that Markinson never likes to keep Lizzie’s life comfortable and drama free for too long, readers need to prepare for big changes in this newest novel. With the twins now in school, Sarah wants to return to work, requiring the couple to split the childcare and housework. As the demands of the family begin to overwhelm Lizzie, she feels vulnerable and exposed. She fears she—and her marriage—are at their breaking point. Lizzie’s struggle to achieve some kind of balance is written with believable, relatable passion. Readers see this in the wonderful, well-crafted scenes between Sarah and Lizzie. Genuine, heartfelt emotion is revealed in hi-def resolution, exposing some hard truths about their relationship. Readers will delight in the paces that A Woman in Hiding puts the Petries through. It’s entertaining, insightful and well-done.

Final remarks…

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: The Woman Lost series is fantastic. Though Lizzie remains central to the series, the whole cast works to make it memorable and entertaining. All the books are fresh, original and engaging. A Woman in Hiding is a nice addition and puzzles into the series arc beautifully. Markinson once again crafts a piece readers will find hard to resist.

Strengths…

Well-written, well-constructed
Fantastic main characters
Engaging supporting characters
Relatable and honest narrative
Charming and delightful storytelling

In short: great novel, wonderful series. Read these books in order!! I have about a dozen reviews on this series already so I'm going to keep this one short. This series has wonderful and well-developed characters that demonstrate incredible growth over the course of the series. There is wacky soap-opera style drama, heartwarming moments, spicy bedroom scenes, and a lot of exploration of different types of relationship dynamics. There is also some great autism representation.

This entry to the series was more focused on wacky hijinks and a little less on plot, relationships, or character growth. It was absolutely enjoyable, but a little more shallow. I liked how the author had Lizzy getting into some ridiculous situations that resulted in tension and drama, but saved the reader (ME!) from having to live through too much fallout. This was certainly a lot more chill than many of the previous novels, which had its pro's and con's.

Still loving Lizzie

No other sapphic character has stayed in my memory as persistently as Lizzie Petrie has. I’ve enjoyed Lizzie from my first reading of A Woman Lost to A Woman in Hiding and each book in-between.

Each encounter with T.B. Markinson’s iconic central character has made me feel like I’m face-to-face with old friends. We might all live hundreds of miles from each other and only talk occasionally, but whenever we reunite, we’re all immediately on the same page.

Lizzie, smothered, er, lovingly SURROUNDED by her family, continues to entertain and bemuse me. She makes me equally empathize — “bless her heart” — and roll my eyes — “why did she say THAT?!”

Few characters frustrate their loved ones so reliably while retaining their love, patience, understanding, empathy, and endearment.

At times I wince as Lizzie’s wife Sarah call out her shortcomings, but my discomfort is countered by Lizzie’s antics like building a secret bunker or failing to appreciate Sarah’s weariness over being a stay-at-home mom and readiness to rejoin the workforce.

T.B. Markinson puts the perfect spin on the chaos ever present in the Petrie household that includes the spouses; twins (sweet) Fred and (monster) Ollie; Demi, adopted from Lizzie’s incarcerated brother; the youngest child, Calvin; and live-ins Maddie, bi friend of the family, and her lover, Willow.

Other regular riders on the Petrie merry-go-round include Sarah’s mom and stepfather, and Lizzie’s father, stepmother, and stepbrother.

Each supporting cast member plays a key role in keeping Sarah sane, Lizzie on track, and, most important, the four kids accounted for, fed, safe, and happy.

Markinson earns one of my rare five-star ratings and my enthusiastic appreciation for another winning Lizzie story.

I Am In Love With Lizzie!

T.B. Has taken Lizzie on so many adventures that we readers can’t help but wait for the next one. There is a little of Lizzie in me and honestly it keeps me coming back for more. This was another installment of seeing where Lizzie’s brain can take only her along with Sarah and the kids mocking her. Sarah has finally reached a pivotal moment in the Petrie household. She wants to go back to work and Lizzie is not grownup to deal with that. But Sarah is doing it and Lizzie needs to figure how to make it work but after a few weeks she is not doing too well. As they are thinking of having the basement redone for Maddie and Willow, Lizzie decides she is going to build a bunker for her if the world is still standing. But as things usually turn out for Lizzie, things are not going as planned. This is another funny story to try and have Lizzie make friends and handle their four kids all while adulting and making decisions. Another great Lizzie story.

This is the 10th book of the A Woman Lost series

I love Lizzie so much, that I am always looking forward to a new book in the series. Every book is great, her way to see life is so relatable and always brings so many emotions to life. This one is more on the hilarious side but with that known deepness, Markinson adds to her characters. Lizzie and Sarah are the dream couple, I love how they go through their journey. And by the way, I want a bunker too, for the same reasons Lizzie does (ha).

The only thing is it ended way too soon; I want to read more. I’d love to know how trivia night goes with Tracy and things with the Au pair.

There is never enough Lizzie, so I hope and wait not so patiently for the next book of my very fav, Lizzie Petrie.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This is the tenth book in the A Woman Lost series and I was so happy to catch up with Lizzie, Sarah and their family. At 184 pages it is more of a short novel. And I suggest the series be read in order. If you just started here you’d be lost on the background and family dynamics. This book has the family now out of the pandemic and Sarah decides that it is time for her to return to work. This means Lizzie needs to do more adulting around the house. There is humor and always a strong connection between the spouses.

Good book

Lizzie is t it again. She always wants things to be perfect for her kids and wife but just makes a mess of things. Sarah is going back to work and Lizzie is taking on mommy duties. See what kind of messes and trouble she can get into. Plus Sarah has to let Lizzie deal with the contractor which gets thing really going in all kinds of difficult direction. A wonderful story of life with the Petrie family.

loved it & thankfully the hiding stopped.

It was so good to read about Lizzie. SarAh & their older children all with different needs & personalities.

So good to see Lizzie & Sarah taking on the different roles that being a parent entails. The different solutions. It was also a joy to meet family members & old friends.

Good to see the hiding take on shape & then later resolve.

I somehow missed this one in my reading of the author’s Lizzie series so was happy to be able to pick it up for free in promotion. It has plenty of the usual quirk and cluelessness that Lizzie is so well known for but is rather short. And you do wonder why Lizzie ever tries to hide anything from her partner, Sarah. Sarah always finds her out and saves her from herself eg. regarding the pyramid buying scheme! Not the best one of the series I’ve read but not bad either.

Lizzie and family navigate the changes resulting from Sarah going back to work. As we have come to know and love her, Lizzie’s handling of the changes is entertaining and awkward.
Markinson has penned another delightful tale of the Petrie brood full of humor, love, and sex dungeons (wink). Don’t miss reading this one!

Oh Lizzie, thank you for being you! While I read book 10 in the series first (not one for rules) this story gave me great insight into adults with an alternate skill set. I've always wondered what happened to some of the quirky teens I taught and TB Markinson scripted a stellar example. The story is light hearted sprinkled with angst, a great read for a rainy day.

Another great installment!

As soon as I saw another book in the series was published, I purchased it and read it cover to cover. Not many series can go 10 books without fading, but T.B. manages to do it and still leave us impatiently anticipating the next one.

OMG Lizzie continues to bring in the comedy without even knowing it. I can picture the crazy salute that she tries to make cool, also the bunker. I mean who wouldn’t want that quiet place they could hide out in. The “friend” parties were also amazing!

A story about an everyday family making decisions about going back to work, should they, Lizzie and Sarah, hire a nanny? Explained how to make friends. Read the story, which was entertaining to answer these questions. Yes I recommend this story. Short and sweet.

Love Lizzie

She is definitely my favorite character in all books I have read. She is so literal that I can not believe it. I have love, sympathy, and understanding for her. I want to be her friend and help her. Anyway, I loved the book and am looking forward to the next one.

Lizzie is back!

Lizzie is back and still as clueless as ever. It's like meeting up with an old friend, where years have passed yet nothing has changed.
