Chasing Snowfall

Rate this book
The day Charlotte Adler decided to stop running from her past, she found herself in the sleepy town of Silver Rapids, Wyoming, trading a fancy high-rise in Boston for a small bungalow and a luxury SUV for a horse. As long as she kept a low profile, no one would find her— and no one would get hurt. Life as a ranch hand was uneventful enough, barring one the enigmatic man who had charmed her out of her panties over the summer and then vanished without a trace was back in town.

Maverick Bennett wanted a fresh start, away from the pressures that had plagued him. Even if that meant juggling two jobs, he was determined not to slink home in defeat. But his plans fell apart, and now he’s back in Silver Rapids, facing a different kind of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed bombshell who slipped through his fingers. Now, she's kind of his boss, he needs her help to keep a promise, and she’s hardened her heart. Losing her again isn't an option, and he'll do whatever it takes to keep her— even if it means confronting her demons until they’re dead and buried.

When you've spent your entire life chasing snowfall, what happens when your heart made of ice thaws?

Anastasia Wilder is a dark romance author who writes morally grey stories for readers who want to be seen, desired, and worshipped. The kind of stories that have velvet-wrapped romance, laced with shadows and desire—and thoughts that linger.

She writes love that is fierce, flawed, and anything but safe.

Anastasia lives in the Midwest with her husband and two fur babies. When she’s not falling for morally grey heroes, wing leaders, or a certain territorial fae bastard, she can be found skiing, traveling, daydreaming, or swinging in her hammock with a cocktail and book in hand.

Chemistry is strong with these two!
After a one night stand where these two connect on another level, a miscommunication throws them apart with repercussions to boot 😳 there’s a lot of bitter feelings between the two of them that’s brought to a head when they’re forced to work together (that’s a heart wrenching moment 😢) they’re sniping is amusing but you do kind of want to scream at them to sort their stuff out 😅 I found Maverick a little hard to connect with as for me he came across as petulant at times! Charlie is a good character and you learn of her back story and why she’s on the run (I wouldn’t necessarily call this a dark romance, more touches on darker themes)! Their connection is fire especially when Mav wakes up and realises she’s his and becomes this whole protector persona 🔥 I just found it a bit of a trek to get to that bit, I found I could take it or leave it at times rather than desperately wanting to finish the book- possibly because I didn’t quite connect with the MMC. Still a solid small town read others may like.

Absolutely fab read by anastasia. A binge worthy small town spicy romance ( not dark romance imo ) packed with all the best tropes. Enemies to lovers, fmc on the run, troubled mmc. I was really looking forward to this book after midnight chase and was fully invested, it didn't disappoint it was full of suspense and was such a good plot. Anastasia is a fabulous author and has writen her characters and plot fabulously. I recommend reading midnight heatwave first. A novella that leads on to this one.

This is Anastasia's first full-length novel, and it is SOLID. We care about the characters, we're invested in the second chance romance, and we're dying for more details of Charlotte's life before Silver Rapids and why she's on the run throughout the whole story. Anastasia does a great job of leaving just the right amount of information off the page to keep you reading, following her breadcrumb trail. The setup for the next book is FANTASTIC too. Excited for what's to come.

I had high hopes for this book and was really enjoying the story and characters, but the flow of the second half was off and had several plot holes. Charlotte is on the run and finds herself in Silver Rapids, a small ranching town. She takes a job on a ranch and the owner, Jasper, takes her under his wing, showing her the ropes. Maverick is helping his best friend and his family out on their family ranch in Utah. Jasper wants Charlotte to take things over at the ranch since he’s estranged from his son. Charlotte and Maverick had met at the beginning of the summer and had an intense and spicy night together that both of them keep thinking about months later. When they meet again, they’re both grieving and angry with each other. The banter and tension between each other was fun but went on for too long. When Maverick learns her secret and how much trouble she is in, he decides he’s going to protect her and thats she’s his. Charlotte believes she can’t be in a relationship because she’s on the run. She fights her feelings and her indecision gave me whiplash. The confrontation with Charlotte’s past was anticlimactic and disappointing. I liked the side characters and Quinn was a great best friend to Charlotte. When Charlotte and Maverick finally accept their feelings and get together, things get hot and spicy. There is a novella that I didn’t know about beforehand which would have helped a lot in the beginning. I suggest reading it first.

Read the novella first!

I went into this without reading the novella first because I didn’t know it existed. I got about 10 pages in and had to go back and read it to understand who everyone was and to know what happened between Charlotte and Maverick.

I enjoyed the enemies to lovers aspect of this but I wasn’t a fan of the writing style.

Oh man….this book. This AUTHOR!! I was lucky enough to come across Anastasia Wilder on TikTok and connect with her and she’s just as amazing a person as she is a writer. She was sweet enough to send me a PR box for her new full length novel, Chasing Snowfall, and let me tell you. The box was small but just might be my favorite PR box of all time? It’s proof that bigger isn’t always better (not in the bedroom. In the bedroom that rule still applies…men don’t get excited) everything in the box was so perfectly tailored to the book. It was perfection. And she even sent a copy of her novella , Midnight Heatwave, which, in my opinion, you 100000% need to read first otherwise you’ll be lost in the sauce reading this one.

Ok. On to the good stuff. This. Book. I love a good enemies to lovers, rip my soul out and make me question life and that’s exactly what this book was. It’s not necessarily a dark romance , but it has some pretty dark undertones which add to the grittiness of the story.

Maverick and Charlotte meet and share one night of sizzling passion that neither is soon to forget. But when morning comes, Maverick is gone and Charlotte is pissed. Feeling like she was used and discarded. Vowing to hate Maverick forever even though she literally can stop thinking about him. Mavericks departure isn’t really what it seems but he’s got bigger things to worry about and tries to forget her which is easier said than done.

Charlotte finds herself on the run after being involved in some shady dealings. She finds herself working on a ranch trying to find some peace from the chaos her life has become. Suddenly who appears? But the man she hates, the man who gave her the best night of her life…Maverick.

These two are like oil and water. They are spitting hatred and insults at each other faster than I can turn the page and honestly? I was here for it 😂 I love a man I can hate and who hates me but still makes me weak in the knees. And that’s exactly what we get here. The banter, the push and pull. These two want each other in a visceral way but they both hate hiding so much pain and darkness from their past that it seems almost impossible to let those walls down.

Anastasia has this great way of writing just enough to keep you hooked. It’s definitely a SLOW BURN but high heat and tension. I do think there were spots where there was a bit too much filler. This is her first full length novel so I think it just may be harder to feel like you need to fill the space and make things longer after writing only novellas. But over time I think this will get better so I wasn’t too bothered by it.

We truly feel the pain and turmoil that Charlotte is going through. We don’t have all the pieces yet and I love and hate that lol I want to know NOW but also love the suspense it gives and I think it adds more to that gut wrenching pain you feel when you learn more about Charlotte and her past. Maverick was going through it too. He had no time for a real relationship but the minute it all clicked in his head that Charlotte was HIS?? The man went into alpha protective mode and I was squealing and kicking my feet. Yes daddy! 😍😍😍

The heat between these two is off the charts. They both love and appreciate the others body and have mouths on them that would put some our best smut lovers to shame. And I wax HERE FOR IT ALL! I could read a whole novella of Maverick talking dirty to me and be happy.

The set up for the next book was perfect. Left me wanting more and more. I hope we finally get some clear answers as to what’s happening and what the future holds for these two chaotic love birds 🤎

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. Wow oh wow!! What a phenomenal story!! Absolutely loved the chemistry between Charlotte and Maverick!! I had my doubts in the beginning on how this was going to end as there were some twists and turns!! I ended up reading this all in one day as I could not put it down had me by the edge of my seat with full of adventure and spice 🥵🥵🥵!! The ending wow what a cliffhanger left you wondering!! Now I need a book 3!! Thanks Anastasia Wilder for the wild ride!!

This book was really well written and I have no doubt that many will absolutely love it! I think where I got hung up a little for me was how I had seen a bunch of people say it was a Dark romance western. While reading this it felt more romantic suspense than true dark romance and I think that I just kept waiting for that to happen which took a little something away from the experience for me personally. The parts that you could consider dark romance did not come into play until way past 50% (like closer to 70 or 80%) though the book.

I will say I put this book down at one point due to mood or frustration I’m not sure but I just kept thinking about it and had to know how it ended so I will say it does rope you in! I truly wish I had gone into this book blind as I feel like that would have been a completely different experience for me. I appreciate Greys for giving me an ARC opportunity with this book!

What a whirlwind ride Charlotte and Maverick went through. They spent a life changing night together when Maverick had to leave, without a word. Or so she thought. It's been months and he's still on her mind even though she hates him now. Charlotte is also on his mind even though he's tried to move on.
When he needs to come home, they run into each other and can hardly stand to be near the other. They need to work together to help the ranch, and eventually they talk out their differences.
When Charlotte's past comes back to haunt her, Maverick does all he can to protect her.

Their banter and chemistry was so good. I love two broken people coming together to heal and support each other.

Everybody know I love a good dark romance and this was it. Add small town into the mix and I’m sat.
Charlotte Adler has decided to stop running and she finds herself in the small town of Silver Rapids.
Maverick Bennett wanted a fresh start. Long story short his plans didn’t work out and he finds himself back in Silver Rapids. Come to find out the girl who slipped away from him is now his boss. Maverick will do whatever it takes to keep her this time.
OH my god I loved this book so much. I have so many good things to say about it but it would take all day. All I have to say is that everyone needs to read this ASAP!!! Chasing Snowfall out now!!!

Chasing Snowfall is a solid read. It’s got all the right elements of a small town romance with some dark elements as well. Charlotte is easy to like and I did really feel invested in her story. Maverick is a little harder to really feel connected with. The spice is great, it feels realistic and not as forced as some other romance novels.

At times, it felt like the plot and timeline had holes and was a bit jumpy, however I did read this as an ARC, so I would have to believe a few or all of those issues were fixed before publication!

As a first full length novel, I think this shows a lot of potential for where Anastasia Wilder will go from here and I look forward to reading more of her work!

Well that took me for a ride! I will say you should read the novella first to understand and get to know & love the characters more. You’ll get a better backstory. That being said, I loved this book. Cowboy, suspense, traumatic past, small town, enemies to lovers, second chance, and spice. Yes I said spice! Read the triggers first, but I absolutely devoured this book. I loved the characters. Even the characters that weren’t necessarily the main characters. The author makes them easy to love. This book left me wanting more. But for real…is there going to be another book cause I need it like yesterday.

Chasing Snowfall immediately picks up from Midnight Heatwave. So pick up the novella and enjoy it first!

Diving right back into Maverick and Charlotte’s story, we get giggles, spice, and a few tears. We also get hella miscommunication which I usually don’t enjoy but it worked for them.

I could not image having to up my life and live in fear, but having a hot man protect me could sway me.

Cannot wait to see what’s next for Anastasia 🖤

I love Charlotte and Mav’s story. I read the novella beforehand, which I think is important. It leads into the story and gives you the backstory you need to understand their relationship. It was so good and had protector vibes, which is always a turn on. I went into the story without even reading the plot (I love to do that), and I was pleasantly surprised ☺️ Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and Anastasia Wilder for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

This book... WOW.
From the very first sentence you'll be hooked (iykyk). I recommed starting with the Novella: Midnight Heatwave. I finished it in an hour or so.. It's quick and gives a great background and setup for Chasing Snowfall.
I LOVED this book. I cannot wait for the next installment. I had the pleasure of meeting Anastasia Wilder a couple of times, and I love that from what I saw of her, her personality comes through in the story.

What a ride!

The romance was HOT, especially between these enemies-to-lovers. The plot was equally engaging as I tried to guess how it would resolve. I didn't figure out the "who," however, so maybe you will.

There were some really sweet moments between the main characters, and I felt the detail given to them only deepened their character arcs.

This small town romantic suspense is a mix of high stakes danger and chemistry. Charlotte (FMC) is a fiercely resilient heroine hiding from her past and Maverick (MMC) is the ultimate broody, morally gray hero obsessed with protecting her.

The tension is thick and the pacing is fast.

Yes, I loved this! The chemistry between Charlotte and Maverick was sizzling, and definitely carried over from Midnight Heatwave. The banter was top tier, and the friend group was so good! I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what Charlotte was running from. Plus.. I have questions and I hope we see more from a certain, potential couple 👀.

This was a 3.5⭐️ for me I rounded up. The story line and spice was there, however it could’ve been 250 page book easy. There was a lot of filler and repetition that just didn’t matter. Overall it was ok it just wasn’t for me personally but I recommend checking it out.

Enemies to lovers done exceptionally well

I love Maverick and Charlie so much. The steamy banter and the “good” scenes were so well written. Anastasia did an amazing job with this debut. Gave you just enough to keep wanting more. Cowboy romance has never been done this well. Make sure to read the novella Midnight Heatwave to get a little extra insight. I loved this sooooooooo much.

I wanted to like this. When I saw all the tropes for it (small town, broody cowboy, romantic suspense, forced proximity, and second chance...just to name a few that def drew me in), it was an easy yes for me. However, I couldn't get myself to be invested in the characters or storyline. It should've been an easy investment considering the FMC is on the run, but I found myself dreading to pick the book up. Ultimately, I think it falls down to the writing style. It's not my jam, and that's okay! I wish this author all of the best.

I enjoyed Chasing Snowfall. Sweet. Romantic. Enemies to Lovers with some suspense. Small Town. I've never heard of skijor before, and learning about this event was pretty cool. Charlie is a hoot, and I love her personality. Maverick is pretty great, too. Once they got over the initial shock of each other and started working toward a mutual goal for the ranch, their friendship and relationship evolves.

Chasing Snowfall by Anastasia Wilder is a dark, emotional enemies to lovers romance that delivers a potent blend of small-town grit, cowboy swagger, and toe curling spice. From the very first chapter, Wilder dives straight into a steamy scene, setting the tone for a romance that is as intensely physical as it is emotionally charged and unpredictable.

Maverick and Charlotte’s chemistry is undeniable. He’s intense, closed off, and carries a quiet, simmering edge. She’s bold, layered, and vulnerable. Together, they ignite a story that balances raw emotion with explosive attraction. The spice is intense, frequent, and perfectly timed, but it’s the emotional undercurrents and surprising depth that truly elevate this romance.

What starts off feeling familiar quickly shifts into unexpected territory. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, Wilder delivers twists that reshape the story and deepen its emotional impact. She sure made me eat my words after telling a friend this one was a tad predictable.... I was wrong!
The plot weaves together themes of grief, betrayal, miscommunication, and second chances, while also exploring healing, self discovery, and the power of found family.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths lies in its emotional growth arcs. Charlotte’s journey to reclaim her autonomy and voice is handled with care and realism, while Maverick’s slow reckoning with his grief adds a layer of tenderness that grounds the heat and angst. It’s dark, passionate, and unexpectedly hopeful, with moments that will have you laughing, crying, and holding your breath.

Wilder masterfully balances spice with substance in Chasing Snowfall, and was a pleasure to read.

What it’s about…
Charlotte Alder - Charlie - is running from her past when she finds herself in the quiet town of Silver Rapids, Wyoming. Leaving behind her fancy high-rise and corporate job to be a ranch hand living in a small cottage. Believing if she keeps a low profile no one will be able to find her and no one will get hurt.

For the most part she is able to keep to herself, until the man who disappeared after charming her out of her panties waltzes back into town.

Maverick Bennett - Mav, Ranger Rick - was after a fresh start, he was determined not to return home. But his plans fell apart forcing him back to Silver Rapids to face a different kind of failure. The bombshell who slipped through his fingers over the summer is now his new boss. He will do whatever it takes to win her over - even if it means confronting her past.

My thoughts…
Where to begin, we jump straight to the spice in this book. I knew this book would have spice but I was not expecting it in the first couple of pages and damn I was giddy as a school girl discovering her first crush. The story then twists and we fall into the slow burn of enemies to lovers but the chemistry between Charlie and Maverick is fantastic - there is even one bed trope thrown in there.

This book isn’t all spice, there is a storyline too along with sarcasm, insults, humour and one liners. Throughout the book there are inclusions of text messages which I love, as it just adds a little more to the story and makes me feel more connected to the characters.

Anastasia did a fantastic job at getting the reader to connect and become invested with the characters as they develop through the book. There are some dark scenes in the book but if you are a fan of Yellowstone - in particular Beth and Rip, it's safe to say you would enjoy this book.
Umm excuse me Anastasia no you did not just finish it with that text message I need to know when your next book is coming out!!!

— thank you to Anastasia Wilder and Grey’s Promotions for the e-arc to review!

Looks like I am in the minority, on this one.

I felt like this book had a choppy flow to it. The author would just jump weeks (or months) and it didn't transition well. I felt there should have been a "next scene" and it would just be next month. It was odd. I think this book needs some editing and tightening up. The story was there... but it wasn't on lock.

I, also, did not feel any chemistry, between Reid and Charlotte. I am not seeing what you all are seeing. I like a strong woman, but for some odd reason... I just didn't feel it with Charlotte. I feel like I should have? I was not endeared to her or any of the other characters.

I could NOT stand Reid either. He was whisy-washy and immature as hell. Which sparked no heat for me.

This just missed the mark, for me, and at 60% (and I was TRYING to push through ) I just could not do it anymore. I feel no investment in these characters, I had to let it go. 🫤

What to Expect:
-Found Family
-Slow Burn
-Enemies to Lovers
-Second Chance
-Dark Small Town
-Suspense
-One Night Stand

This was a wild ride from start to finish! Charlotte and Maverick were perfect for each other and I’m so glad they found their way back to each other🤭

Charlie is such a strong character after all she’s been through, and she’s always on edge too. She doesn’t really let anyone close so if she does, you know she really cares🥹

Maverick is so protective of everyone around him and for good reason too. He’s such a hot cowboy and I loved his journey with Charlotte😍

The spice, banter, the side characters, the storylines, all of it was just a great time and although it was my first Anastasia Wilder book it won’t be my last😩
