Rate this book
Unlock the secrets behind building lasting wealth with How the Rich Get Richer by Gabriel Shahin. In this eye-opening guide, Gabriel, the Founder of Falcon Wealth Planning, shares his philosophy on smart investing, offering a refreshingly honest perspective on wealth management and financial planning. Unlike many advisors, Gabriel operates as a fee-only advisor—not commission-based—meaning his advice is free from the pressure to sell products. This allows him to provide an inside look at the strategies used by the wealthy to grow and preserve their fortunes—strategies rarely shared in a commission-driven industry.

With years of experience at major financial institutions like Edward Jones and TD Ameritrade, on the way to starting his own firm, Gabriel has witnessed what works—and what doesn’t—when it comes to wealth-building. He understands the traps that many investors fall into, as well as the strategies that help the rich become even richer. His decision to leave behind the traditional model and establish Falcon Wealth Planning was fueled by a desire to put clients' best interests first and offer a more personalized, transparent approach to managing wealth. He is in the “people business.”

Gabriel’s philosophy is simple but true financial freedom starts with knowing your why. Whether you dream of retiring early, buying a second home, or simply feeling secure in your financial future, it’s crucial to have a vision for what you want—and a trusted advisor to guide you there. In How the Rich Get Richer, Gabriel emphasizes the importance of goal-setting and a strategic approach to investments, tax planning, and wealth preservation.

This book is more than just a guide; it’s a comprehensive roadmap designed to help readers navigate their financial journey with confidence. Gabriel explains complex investment strategies in a way that is easy to understand, empowering readers to make informed decisions. For those who are already wealthy and looking to leave a lasting legacy, he shares advanced techniques to ensure that your wealth continues to work for you and future generations.

Whether you’re just starting to build your nest egg or are an established investor seeking a fresh perspective, How the Rich Get Richer provides the insights you need to take control of your financial future and reach your most ambitious goals.

Review of How the Rich Get Richer: Your Ultimate Guide to Building Wealth by Gabriel Shahin

Initial Impressions & Emotional Impact
As someone who has always been intrigued by wealth-building strategies but often overwhelmed by financial jargon, Shahin’s book felt like a breath of fresh air. From the very first chapter, I appreciated the straightforward, no-nonsense approach to demystifying wealth accumulation. The author’s tone is both authoritative and approachable, making complex concepts like tax optimization and portfolio analysis feel accessible rather than intimidating.

One section that particularly resonated with me was the discussion on how rich people know what they want— explaining the types of financial intelligence - from the Fake Rich "influencer" to the "elite rich". It made me reflect on my own mindset and how subtle shifts in perspective could lead to tangible financial growth. There were moments where I found myself nodding along, scribbling notes in the margins, and even feeling a surge of motivation to revisit my own financial plan. The chapter on how rich people want to leave a legacy, also was profoundly educating. I had never heard of some of the options discussed, and I doubt many outside the financial field have. I think this would be extremely helpful for everyone to read.

Strengths & Constructive Criticism
-Actionable Advice: Unlike many finance books that stay theoretical, Shahin provides clear, educational discussions of risk, owning a business, and understanding tax laws. The delineations on the basics of things like investing and insurance are especially practical, breaking down each one into simple explanations.
-Real-World Relevance: The inclusion of his lived experiences helped ground the advice in reality. I could see how these principles applied to everyday people, not just Wall Street elites.
-Room for Depth: While the book excels at breadth, I occasionally wished for deeper dives into specific topics—e.g., more nuanced discussions on systemic barriers (like generational wealth gaps) or tailored advice for freelancers/gig workers.
-Structural Flow: Some chapters felt slightly disjointed, jumping between high-level concepts and granular tactics. A stronger narrative thread tying these together could improve readability.

Final Thoughts
How the Rich Get Richer lives up to its title as a “guide”—it’s not just informative but empowering. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it consolidates timeless principles with modern relevance, making it a valuable addition to any personal finance library. My biggest takeaway? Wealth-building isn’t about luck; it’s about readiness, consistency, and the courage to act—a message that stayed with me long after I finished reading.

Rating: 4.5/5 (A compelling blend of motivation and methodology).

Gratitude: Thank you to Forbes Books and Goodreads Giveaways for the free copy—this review reflects my genuine engagement as a reader eager to bridge the gap between financial literacy and action.

Good Coverage of Investment Options

This is a review of How the Rich Get Richer: Your Ultimate Guide to Building Wealth by Gabriel Shahin. This book has a lot of information on financial investing. It covers investing in real estate, stocks, bonds, gold, and collectibles. It covers starting your own business and the traits of various forms of business organizations. There is information on different forms of trusts. There is information on tax planning. This book seems like part introductory book to financial planning and a small part advertising for the author’s firm (not overwhelmingly so). It would be a good book to read before going to someone for financial planning, because he details the situations that might not be in your best interest and introduces financial vocabulary with clear explanations.

It explains that you need to understand yourself. How open are you to risk? What do you want from your money? You may prefer to invest in specific stocks, such as those that are environmentally friendly. It does not provide tips on choosing stocks. It emphasizes the importance of diversification and the many ways you can diversify. It provides an thorough overview of what the rich do, but the specifics would vary by person. It also covers what they don’t do.

My husband had been investing since he was a young teen (through his dad) and was considered a financial genius by the VP at the brokerage they used. Because of that, I didn’t really learn anything new, but it reminded me of everything he used to say - including everything he complained about people doing.

I received this book for free in a Goodreads giveaway.

Planning your financial future

If you want to plan your financial future and don’t know how to do it, this book is a great option. With clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language, Shahin, the author of How the Rich Get Richer, offers a roadmap of the key points to consider in order to succeed, stay on track, and avoid failure.
As the reading progresses, the author’s deep knowledge on the subject becomes evident. He also shows that what he proposes is possible, achievable, and leads to the expected results.
The author’s effort to explain potentially complex topics in a simple way is also noticeable, making them easier to understand and allowing the reader to stay focused without having to search for the meaning of what they are reading.
I really appreciated the emphasis he places on honesty. It shows the kind of person he is; an honest individual who respects others and acts with integrity, without stepping on anyone to get ahead.
Unfortunately, this is a value that has been lost nowadays.

This was a GoodReads giveaway win of a Kindle ebook.

As the saying goes. "Don't dress for your current job, but rather dress for the job you want." Well, that pretty much also applies to how to get rich. You are doing everything within your current means, but you have to look ahead to opportunities that are available to get you to the next level.

I have read a lot of books on personal finance over the years. I learned some things in this book. Room for me to grow. Of the vast majority of personal finance books I have read, few also touch upon TAXES. Let's face it. That 401(k) you have is not entirely yours. You may think it is a cool $1M, but Uncle Sam is there for his cut and could take a full third or more of your $1M if you don't handle things correctly. You need to get your act together and think ahead. This is a great start to that end.

Now go grow your wealth and also take the time to find your next GoodReads.

Disclaimer: I obtained this book through the Goodreads Giveaway program.

There were some confusing sentences and a confusing tax diagram though I did rush through reading them. The author promoted his company a lot though he did give convincing reasons why his company and similar ones are superior to commission-based firms. He made a couple of incorrect statements since some savings accounts do offer yields above the US inflation rate and cars and houses can be bought with money in a bank account instead of through loans. That said, he packed a lot of information in a short book. He is right that consistently saving money is the foundation of successful personal finance. He made good points that rich people have clear goals, right personal and professional partners, have real estate and businesses, use tax breaks, get comprehensive insurance, and do not get excessively greedy in the stock market.

I truly recomend this useful book!

How the Rich Get Richer by Shahin is eye-opening, and incredibly thought provoking. The author lays out financial mindsets and tactics separating the wealth from the rest of the world. He clearly lays out and contextualizes the real-world examples based upon economic hypotheses. He talks about how the wealth play the game, where they exploit systems, investments and industry knowledge to leverage infinite multiple wealth rewards. He does not simply state how bad the wealth inequity is in society, but he empowers the reader with their own 'operation system' to embark on their journey on a financial path. He covers passive income, asset accumulation, smart investing etc., it's essentially a wake-up call and bulls eye guide. His writing is honest and unfiltered which is relatable to everyone at every financial level. If you are serious about changing your financial future, it is a MUST READ.

A guide to prosper

This book helped me see personal finances from a different perspective. It is not only about earning more money, but also about understanding how to manage it wisely. The author explains topics that may seem complicated in a very simple and friendly way, as if he were speaking to you like a trusted friend who has real experience. What I appreciated the most is that this book is not just for wealthy people. Anyone can apply the advice he shares, no matter their financial situation.

The most valuable lesson I took from it is that having a clear plan, making thoughtful decisions, and surrounding yourself with the right advisors can make a big difference. It also encouraged me to think more about the future, instead of only focusing on the present. If you are just starting out or looking to improve your financial life, this book is an honest and practical guide. It gave me clarity and the motivation to take action with more confidence.

How the Rich Get Richer by Gabriel Shahin is a refreshingly candid and practical guide for anyone serious about building lasting wealth. Mixing straightforward financial advice with real-world experience, Shahin pulls back the curtain on how the wealthy actually manage their money, without the jargon or sales pitch. I really appreciate his no-nonsense approach as a fee-only advisor, which gives the book a rare air of trustworthiness. This isn't just another “get rich quick” scheme; it's a roadmap grounded in strategy, purpose, and integrity. Shahin’s emphasis on knowing your “why” adds a personal touch that makes the financial content more relatable and motivating. Whether you're starting from scratch or already financially stable, this book provides solid tools and mindset shifts to elevate your planning. A mix of financial education and life coaching, it empowers readers to dream bigger and act smarter. Definitely, it's worth reading and sharing.

This book is a good overview on the complexities of financial literacy including investment options, business set-ups, and insurance. Consider it like a quick reference without too much detail. So if you just want a quick rundown on what is available / possible to do with your money, then this book will help give you ideas to get on the right track. But if you are actually interested in learning more or would like more actionable steps, you’ll need to find other resources. Would probably be useful to read before meeting with a financial advisor for the first time. For me, I found there was too much information that was only broadly touched on, so I felt a little overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time.

Thanks to NetGalley and Forbes books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The author of this book is an expert on accumulating wealth and managing it. That is part of how his idea for this project came to be. However, this concept isn’t just about how one makes money and keeps it. It’s more about generational wealth and how ordinary individuals can get in on the action.

What makes this book different from others that promise to make you rich is that it doesn’t just deliver the answers to how one accrues personal wealth. It’s also concerned with precisely why some techniques continue to pay dividends and why others don’t. If you have bad money habits, and if you think you’re not ever going to get ahead, this is the book for you. By reading it, you will learn how to break out of the cycle of living check to check.

I'd never read anything about this topic before, but I decided to read this book because I felt it was time to get serious about wealth building. The book How the Rich Get Richer truly opened my eyes to new possibilities. Now I feel a lot more comfortable making financial decisions since the author provided me with real tools. I liked that he didn't try to sell anything and was straightforward. His sincere desire to help is evident.

I particularly suggest it to people who, like me, have never explored this area and wish to start learning how it works. Those who are seeking a more strategic viewpoint but already have some knowledge may also find it helpful. I highly recommend it!

I loved this book.

I loved this book. I also feel like the author wrote it with a lot of love. You can feel it in every page, with his financial wisdom, giving us theory based on examples on how to plan a proper financial life. I really like the author's message, and I always agree: if we don't have financial knowledge, it's very difficult to plan for a good outcome at the end of our lives. I know there are many books that cover the same topic, but for me this book has a different meaning because you can feel the author's passion for these topics, and this makes us even more drawn to reading it.

This book offers really useful advice for people looking to improve their money situation, how they manage it, especially if they want to have a clear view of how to approach world wealth to be smart and built over time.

The no sales approach feels refreshing and the authors experience really adds to the book. Financial topics are explained in an easy way, so everyone in any level of knowledge about the topic can understand perfectly what the author wrote.

To sum up, although some parts feel a bit repetitive, it's still a solid book to make it a starting point and take smarter steps with their money.

A helpful guide.

I believe this will be a productive read for anyone who wants to generate financial wealth, improve their economic future, or secure their legacy. How the Rich Get Richer not only talks about making money for the sake of it, but it focuses on finding the reason for doing it for each person in particular, in order to direct our activities to achieve that objective.
I must say the title was a bit of a turn-off. I was expecting something much more superficial and banal, but instead the author offers an honest and real guide. It can be useful for those who want to invest in their future and need a practical guide.

How the Rich get richer gives a lot of helpful insights and keys to building wealth that aren’t always known by people in the field of wealth management. Some of the topics are basic while others make you think deeper about your own spending or the “why”. That being said, it did seem like the author was trying to sell the services of his Financial Planning Agency. I get it go with the grind and sell the “brain”. Overall a really interesting, thought provoking, and informative read

Provides an excellent overview of the many aspects people need to consider. While it is somewhat an advertisement for the authors business, he does a good job especially emphasizing the importance of taxes which traditional financial publications mention but inadequately cover. It is a good introduction to help setup questions should ask their own financial, tax and legal professionals.

Good content

The book started pretty slow. Didn’t think I would finish it. But I don’t do reviews unless I finish the book. After the first few chapters, the book improves. I recommend the book to people who want to protect their wealth and to protect their future generational wealth.

This was a giveaway selection that I won and by far one of the best introductions on the wealthy and how they invest and keep their finances in order. It really gave good insights on how much investing and taxes play a big role when you eventually get in a higher bracket. I learned a few new things and would definitely love to read more books from the author.
