Erica Ruffin and Clyde Glasper knew they had a once-in-a-lifetime type of love—one that sizzled under the electric beats of an Atlanta college block party and would burn hot and long after they reached their destinations as STEM professionals. They were destined to be a power couple, until they weren’t.
Nearly twenty-five years later, life has left its mark on both. Divorce. Children. Sickness. Betrayal. Erica, now a director of an artificial intelligence education center, has learned hard life lessons that leave little room for self-care and love. Clyde, a guidance counselor, has sacrificed his marriage and career trajectory to be a caregiver.
When life forces their paths to cross again in the heart of rural Alabama—brought together by Erica’s new job—it’s more than a reunion. It’s unfinished business. The fire remains. That undeniable attraction. But so are the unresolved issues. Erica’s fear of being vulnerable in love battles against Clyde’s pain of being rejected again. And neither of them are the gullible kids they once were.
With past wounds at the surface of their interactions, is love enough for Erica and Clyde to give each other a second chance? Or will history prove that some relationships are meant to stay in the past?
Deja Vu had me deep in my feelings; it was a second chance story that tugged on my heartstrings. I was intrigued because the storyline of Erica hit really close to home for me. I admired her strength to make a difficult decision for her and her son and I’ll always root for a “Warrior” to win, every time. Clyde was such a good man; in my eyes he did everything right and Erica did him wrong.. 😑 and who knows maybe the situation with Rory was karma having her way.. nonetheless, I enjoyed seeing Clyde and Erica rekindle their love story. I enjoyed it. 💕
Erica irked my nerves in the beginning of the book with how she treated Glasper once she saw where he was from. She was very judgmental and too uppity for me. The fact that she could express her love so freely and then leave him with no emotion didn't sit right with me.
Once they crossed paths again years later by happen stance, I felt Glasper took her back too easily. Yes, it is okay to still want the one who got away but the way she treated him I felt he should have made her work harder to get back in his good graces. Also at times when I was reading it seemed the timeline wasn't exactly clear which kind of disrupted the flow for me. There were also some odd parts with her mom that seemed to come out of nowhere and didn't quite make sense in the story especially not at that particular part.
At the end of the day, Glasper and Erica felt it was God's will for them to be together so I am glad they got their second chance at a HEA with each other but the overall book was just okay to me.
This couple met in college and dated seriously for 3 years. Talk about a judgement issue ruining a perfect relationship. Erica and Clasper met again after 20 some years and realized they still loved each other. Fantastic second chance love story.
Loved it from beginning to end amazing 👏🏾 second chance at love ❤️ he was the most awesome and sweetest person ❤️ the way he loved whole hearted ❤️ beautiful amazing story ❤️
This second chance at love story was so good. After we learned about how the couple broke, I was interested to see how Monica would bring them back together…and it was perfect. She does so well writing characters who are grown, flawed, and healing while creating a story of love, passion, growth that leave you wanting more. I loved this book!!
"Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover" Glasper =💰💰 Let me begin by saying I didn't like Erica for a minute. I didn't realize how vain and shallow she was until she visited Glasper's family. The nerve after he spent Christmas with her snobbish daddy and loose talking mother. He had a mic drop comeback for her after she treated him like sh**. "I'm sorry too for wasting my time and yours. Get some therapy so you can figure out what you want from life and be more transparent with your next victim."🎤
God definitely has a way to make us humble and Erica was after: 1. A devastating medical illness (cancer) and 2. Her undeserving trash POS husband (now ex.) She Redeemed Herself, Yes!
Be Careful How You Treat Others!
God also has the power to align the stars and give us not only what we need and what we want, and goes by the name of Clyde Glasper. Erica ends up in Dotham, Ala, on his turf.
Glasper is back in the picture after 25 yrs. and the surprise of them seeing each other was priceless.🤣 His purpose was to bring life, laughter, joy, peace, protection, and love to Erica and her son, Maxwell. Maxwell also benefitted greatly from Glasper's mentorship, based off his initial meeting of his school counselor.
Those teenagers of the two Maxwell (Erica's) and Damita (Glasper's) were hilarious. They matched their parents' energy, ripping them equally apart about following the same rules they expected of them while addressing their unexpected pregnancy. They were blunt! Legs closed or use condoms.
A beautifully written second chance story with passion, truths, love, ugliness, happiness, forgiveness, and new beginnings, with the blended family and a new Glasper baby addition.
Last but not least, I loved the transition from the HBCU college scene & career chemistry/STEM focus to grown folk sexy and taking care of business. 💗
I am a sucker for second chances. This was one of the best as it had been over 20years. For gasper and Erica to both be divorced and had to go through so many obstacles only to end up where it basically all started was everything. Rory pissed me off everytime his name was mentioned. I wanted to smack him so bad. Maxwell and Damita had some moments I wanted to tell they lil asses something. As a parent of an only child I could definitely relate. All in all this book was a great read. Dealing with love and loss, cheating, divorce and sickness…to finally get that happily ever after. GO READ IT!!
3.5⭐️ Erica PMO with her shallow self during her relationship with Glasper while they were in college. Ms. Uppity was too good to fit into Glasper’s lifestyle & accept the way he cared for his family, etc. that she dumped him and proceeded to find greener grass, or so she thought! Years later, both Erica & Glasper reconnect; I wish Glasper would have accepted a better apology from Erica instead of boom, boom, bam… now let’s reconnect and have a HEA. This was a fast-paced second chance romance that left me wanting more.
Sometimes the second time around is the best time especially when you start a relationship while you're so young. The first time just wasn't Erica and Glasper's time. That relationship probably wouldn't have lasted long because she was so self centered in her younger years. The second time is the charm.
This story is such a love letter and prophecy to the reader who needs to forgive themselves for their old self and embrace their future. The richness of the characters communicate this message in such a loving and direct way.
