Terrific piece of micro-history for the northwest corner of Torch Lake in northern Michigan, but more of a larger history of women pioneers, and I'm sure their experience wasn't limited to Torch Lake, northern Michigan, or the midwest.

In the words of the editor/author of this great book, Betty Beeby, "I hope this book is considered more than a family chronicle; rather, that it is enjoyed as a time capsule of photographs, postmarks and records of speech and how women 'made do' in one small place in early northern Michigan."

This was a Christmas gift to my Mom, who lent it back to me when she was done. A great glimpse of what life was like, for women especially, here in the Traverse Area of Michigan around the turn of the century. I thought the content and photos might have been better organized.

Read this years ago and loved it. I wish there would have been to it, I could have been sucked in forever! One I want to own...
