Ghosts: True Cases of Hauntings and Visitations

'No one can deny Paul Roland is a complete master of his subject.'
Colin Wilson , author of The Outsider

Ghosts and spirits inhabit the world around us. We can hear and see them if we are only sensitive - or psychic - enough to be aware of them.

Re-examining a fascinating assortment of recorded sightings from as far back as Roman times, the author presents a serious look at ghosts, not as chain-rattling spooks, but as actual entities with which we share a greater reality.

Nor does he accept that ghosts are merely the spirits of departed people, or energies left behind. Uniquely, Paul Roland provides self-tested evidence on the idea of spirits as the manifestation of people still living, proving that out-of-body experiences are not as rare - or as impossible - as some people might think.

The result is a profoundly fascinating, thought-provoking book that will challenge your beliefs as never before.

I personally really enjoyed this book. The pictures are good quality and the layout is unique and engaging. I thought it was a fun read that is perfect for anyone who is wanting to get some basic grounding on some known and lesser-known paranormal events and history. I rated four stars only because there was ONE single incident I noticed where a sentence abruptly ended, but we are all only human. This did not deter my enjoyment of this book at all.

Picked up this book for a Halloween themed escape room I am putting together - some of the typos in the book make it pretty clear that it is not as polished as it could/should be, and this is really just a “greatest hits” of “ghosts” and the search for the afterlife, but I think it accomplishes what the author appears to have set out do: a brief, all readers-friendly, introduction to the topic. And, a big plus, I found the image/photos selected for inclusion to be really solid.

A fun little coffee table book perfect for spooky season! I like the combination of micro anecdotes and longer histories. This is a great little foray into all things haunted and eerie, with much opportunity for extracurricular research, if a reader's interest is piqued by any one tidbit. Definitely worth a flip through if paranormal activity interests you!

Although it is poorly written and edited, this book is entertaining. Sources, basic identifying information, and, maddeningly, photos that are referred to, are glaringly absent. The format is reminiscent of elementary school textbooks with lots of photos, illustrations, and sidebars. It is, at least, a fairly quick read.

It's a bad sign when you're reading a spooky book that's repeatedly referencing photographs that AREN'T IN THE BOOK!!! I was Googling the pictures on my phone while reading just so I could see what the author was talking about. There was some interesting history about the Victorian era and their fascination with the occult, but otherwise this was a disappointing read.

Great book. A very engaging read. It sent tingles down my spine. The only thing that really got me on edge was the painting called ‘the hands resist him’ (at least I think that’s what it’s called). I couldn’t sleep with it in my room after I read about it.

It has many tales of hauntings and possession. It’s well written and some things he wrote make sense.
Overall, I enjoyed it more than most books of this nature.
