Now Run by Kate Bold is the first book in the Brynn Justice series. FBI agent Brynn Justice is partnered with Special Agent Derek Cole to investigate two missing girls with symbolism related to Greek mythology linked to their disappearances. An excellent fast paced thriller. I loved learning about the way Brynn analyses clues and looks for patterns and her knowledge of symbolism. Derek seems to be a great partner for her and hopefully we will see more of him. Plenty of suspense as they race to stop the psychopath who has modelled himself on the Greek Underworld God Hades.

FBI Agent Brynn has always been different, perceiving what others not only miss, but could never consider. And it is her unusual gifts that allow her to unpack the undiscovered clues the local sheriffs have neglected to see. When she and her new partner are sent to assist local authorities after a second girl within a small community disappears, she knows she will be expected to work with her new partner on unfamiliar environments as they navigate case specifics.

It becomes apparent to Brynn that the cases are not only similar, but connected linked by drama/theater performances, specifically classical tragedies and mythology. The race ensues to try and save these girls before another goes missing, abducted by a psychopath. Fast read with strong characters.

In my opinion, it was a really good book!
It was full of suspense and kept me hooked from beginning to end — I honestly couldn’t put it down! 😮🔥
Of course, in some parts there was a bit too much detailed analysis of the events, but overall I truly believe it’s a great book and definitely worth reading! 👍😊

Very nicely done! crisp, straight to the point, no unnecessary romance but good partnership and nice flow of the whole story. However, if you have ever seen Criminal Mindd or read any other crime novel - you know how this goes.

Now Run - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

FBI Special Agent Brynn Justice must stop a megalomaniac killer with delusions of grandeur - that he's the Greek god Hades, to be precise - in Kate Bold's epic series opener, Now Run.

Working with a new partner Special Agent Derek Cole in a hostile environment - both literally and personally - the duo must have each others' backs, even though Brynn's use of criminal profiling is new to Derek.
Will they find the latest victim alive...and what deadly traps lie in the 'underworld' this twisted Hades has chosen for his lair?

My lips are sealed, but know that Now Run is a must, for fans of Rachel Wood, Clive Cussler or Blake Pierce...go grab it now!

It was fair. It was more of a 2 1/2 🌟 rating.

All the law enforcement officers in this book were either overinflated in their abilities or portrayed as incompetent, power-hungry, chauvinistic, or not able to get their heads in the game due to trauma. Really? Of all the law enforcement isn't there anyone capable of working a crime who is level-headed?

The serial killer is obviously going to be somewhat deranged and that's fine. However, the first 1/3 of the books focus on fruit was WAY too much. It felt like she felt the reader was ignorant and needed a lot of explanation and reminding.

I like Kate as an author, but I didn't care for this book.

Reminded me of a show you would listen to on the radio…kinda fun but predictable and needed more details 🤷🏼‍♀️
Pretty sure this was a teaser to a series but didn’t quite hook ya enough to keep going.

The book follows FBI BAU agent Bryan Justice who’s been promoted from just doing desk work investigations to being out on the field, with a new partner FBI agent Derek Cole.

The first investigation (and book) is focused on the disappearance of Emma and Lily, two girls who loved theatre and wanted to be actresses, Justice and Cole are sent in to find out if they had run away as the local police suspected or if there was something more sinister. Justice uses her knowledge of Greek mythology and symbolism to find a strong connection, that there’s a kidnapper out there believing he’s Hade. Emma is eventually discovered but she has been murdered… will Justice and Cole solve the mystery of Hades identity in time or will Lily be Hades next murder victim?

This is an easy read and a relatively short story, so I wasn’t expecting much from it however I enjoyed the suspense and it didn’t make at all who the killer was too obvious, the FBI agents name being Derek did give me flash backs to Derek Morgan (FBI agent in the famous tv series Criminal Minds), as this is book one in the series of a Brynn Justice suspense thriller series I can see why the author had provided just a little bit of background for back characters (Justice and Cole) but it didn’t over rule the premise of the book.

The book covers themes of misogyny and sexism in the work place, highlighting that Justice is aware she’s one of the few women working in a male dominated role however I feel that the author had forgotten that half way through (unless covered in the other books), an example would be the author draws attention to the police officer giving Cole the car key and that it would be assumed he would be doing all the driving because he’s simply male, however when it came to kicking down the garage door, Brynn was happy to let Cole break down the door with his foot instead of using her own initiative, considering she wants to be an equal and goes to the gym three times a week it should of been an easy task for herself.

I’m glad the author didn’t go down the path of making Justice and Cole fall for each other, though again as I’ve not read the rest of the series I hope that they remain co workers and not fall into lovers as that would not add value to the story line.. in my opinion.

Brynn is an FBI profiler and is used to working behind a desk, Derek is an FBI agent and he's used to working in the field, they are put together to try and find two girls who were at drama school and have been kidnapped and the local police chief is a total moron who handled the original cases very badly. Now Brynn and Derek have a killer to catch before he kills both girls and who knows if others are being lined up to take on parts in a dark play.

This didn't move along all that fast and some of the characters were a bit wooden but I liked the thinking they both had about the cases they were working on, they do make an unlikely team but a good one nevertheless, they complimented each other nicely. The killer calls himself Hades and his victims left in deep dark caves are his Persophenes (hope that's the right spelling) who are to be killed and go down into Hades where he will join them, but I don't see him killing himself along with his victims, hmm. Anyway Brynn and Derek are on his trail and they are not now that far behind him.

It's strange to say I liked a serial killer book but I much more liked the soft interplay between Derek and Brynn, they were now at the point of second guessing what their partner will do next, so I feel as if their relationship will be cemented in further books and this then makes them become more interesting to the followers of this series.

Title: Now Run
Author: Kate Bold
Year Published: 2025
Emma:

“What happened?”
“Where the hell am I?”
She couldn’t remember how she got here, and her last vague recollection was of walking along a trail near the caves. Her hands are tied up. There was a flashlight. Her heart leaped “Here!” She shouted. What seemed like hope turned into desperation.
“Persephone, I have been looking for you.”- Man.

Bryan:
Maya would have been thirty-four by now, and if her sister was still alive, Brynn was sure that she’d be at the pinnacle of the successful acting career she’d always dreamed of. But then, after Maya’s murder when her older sister had been eighteen, she’d decided to go into criminal justice.

The prologue reminded me of a Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series and as a huge fan of it I would say that there is a glimpse of the series at the beginning of the novel. A personal question, is Emma and Maya the same? Could it be a typographical error or could they be related? I just cannot simply wait to gather up evidences and get the answer in front of me!

Greek Mythology Murder

The book Now Run (A Brynn Justice FBI Suspense Thriller) by Kate Bold was a wonderful mix of Greek Mythology and murder. This book is part of a series so you can continue to follow Agent Brynn Justice on a new case. I’m definitely looking forward to all the books in this series. The book was fast paced and easy to digest. The story starts off with two FBI agents working together to find two kidnapped college students. This book brings out so many different emotions like sadness, anger, frustration, gratefulness, and success. I would recommend this book to everyone and I rate it a 5 out of 5!

tldr I’m on a car trip with my dad and he listens to free audiobooks on Spotify and I’ve heard like 75% of this one.

It’s always crazy to me how thrillers in book form always feel so… slow? Like this just constantly felt like we were moving through molasses. And every line from the villain felt very corny.

And some of this lines just sound awful when read aloud. There have been multiple times I just went 😐 . And this author is one of those that just churns out multiple books a year so I’m not surprised the quality isn’t great.

Ridiculous

Really unbelievable. Kept saying "I hope this gives us a lead" but literally everything was a lead from the second she arrived. I imagine police would love to chase a serial killer with as much ease.

I had no idea this was an actual series!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, I enjoyed looking into the symbolism and going about a case in a different way than most would.

I thought this was incredibly interesting, I'll be looking into reading the rest of the series! 🙂

As a short FBI procedural, this was a good start to a series. Some depth is lacking, but the characters are likable and the case they were on was interesting enough.
