When the richest man in Big Lake is murdered on the night he announced his bid for State Senator the list of suspects stretches all the way from the small mountain town to the Governor’s office. Sheriff Jim Weber’s investigation reveals a web of secrets, illicit sex, and shattered lives that teaches him that nothing is what it appears to be and that sometimes the people we think we know are not at all what we believe them to be. Meanwhile, love has come to town and wedding bells must compete with the echo of gunshots.
That I haven't said before? Nick Russell's books are the BEST!! They are fantastic!! There is loads of humor, lots and lots of mystery and you'll never guess who the killer is, until the end. These books are very entertaining. Once you start, you won't want to put down the book, until the end. Then you'll be buying the next one in the series. They move fast. There's no wanting to skip pages, because it's so slow, or too much inner dialogue. There is just the right amount information, to help you seem out who is the killer. Each character will become like your best friend and you will hate for the book to end. Thank you Nick Russell, for having your books in Kindle Unlimited. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good mystery, with lots of twists and turns to keep you totally invested. Thanks for your great writing Nick!
A new character comes to Big Lake and she is a talker. The author has her dialog of rambling stories painting a wonderful picture. Much of this has nothing to do.with the story but it is entertaining. How the other main characters react is also entertaining.
The main story.is just the opposite. A mystery that unfolds that once again is a stretch.
The ending also seems a stretch, but so be it. The growth in the characters is good as well as understanding more.about.them.
This was a fantastic story, and a great addition to the series. While investigating a murder, which the Sheriff's department was having a difficult time getting information about, another horrific tragedy occurred. When the secrets of the past were finally coming to light, it was also giving the officers the information that they needed regarding the horrible murders. It's a story that you won't want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
This was the Best Big Lake book ! I've read them all in order so far, and that's the best way to read them. You will get to know all the characters, and follow the stories.... This one is the Best. It has lots of suspense and mystery. The characters are interesting, and you want to know what happens to them. A little romance and some comedy keeps you interested and reading. Onto the next Big Lake....
I chose a four star rating instead of the usual five star that I have given in some of Mr. Russell's other books as this one was a slow starter and I almost put it down, but thank goodness I persevered as once it got going it was a great mystery. As has been his usual style I didn't have a clue as to the murderers identity. The real shocker came at the end. What a surprise!
I love the big lake series so far but I have one thing that's bothering me. Miss Lucy's dog Charlie, and the other woman that was shot and then eaten by a bear, her dog and 3 cats. You never tell us what happened to them. I love dogs and cats and even though its fiction, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PETS. Please consider adding in those in future books. Thank you
Currently reading this book. I have to say, it's like all Nick Russell's other books. Excitement, lot's of investigation going on, and you just know there is going to be another surprise ending. I really like that a lot of the same characters are in all the books I've read so far. It makes you feel like you really get a chance to know these people, and like your right there in Big Lake with them. I just love Nick Russell's writing, and really looking forward to reading all his Big Lake Books.
Abuse! It never stops hurting! She thought that it was over sixteen years ago. But now it's back. How many will die before it's finished. Two people are dead, one more is destroyed inside. Who is this crazed killer? How will Sheriff Jimmy catch this killer? Will Robyn survive being shot? Find out by reading this great book. Highly recommended.
Frequent laughter erupted while I read this Nick Russell mystery. I'm a big fan of Russell, and increasingly his dry and wry sense of humor, which is developing along with his characters. He nailed Kallie Jo. Most of us have known a Kallie Jo and her stream of consciousness non-stop talking. A great addition to the Big Lake team.
When I start a series, I usually read the first 3 or 4 books before making a review. I have done that this time as well. Big Lake Scandal is the fourth book of the series and I can tell you that this series is well worth the time. When you’re ready to start a new series, this one comes highly recommended.
It was a very exciting story but I HATE child abuse! It makes my blood boil! The ending was just as I thought it should be. Only thing I didn’t care for in the series is reminders of the past. I guess you have to just in case someone just reads one book. Oh well, it’s still a great series.
Each of these books get better then the last, as the characters grow, and our understanding of Big Lake improves. The writing is well done and the stories are interesting.
This series is the best I have read in a long time. It has plenty of suspense and mystery. This is a book I could not put down just like all the rest in this series. I highly recommend this book and series
Seldom does a crime novel make me smile but I’ve laughed out load at the dry humor of FBI Agent Parks! He’s truly a keeper. Russell’s novels are a good read. Enjoy revisiting all the characters from Big Lake.
I enjoy the suspence, the humor and Nick's informative writings. I would recommend his books to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, with humor and some sort of action always going on. Looking forward to his next book.
This is the fourth in the series that I have read. Excellent but sad story. With evil hiding inside a person, one cannot fathom the extent of horror that gets unleashed.
Twists and turns, and more development of Big Lake and the people who live there. Unfortunately two characters lived with unspeakable sadness, and their stories ended as one could predict.
Good follow up to the previous parts of the series and one that could easily be the last. The path forward seems to be obvious so it will be interesting to see what the author does. So far, I'm not sure living in a little town is the safest thing you can do.
Wow! I was not prepared for the sequence of events as they unfolded. Nick Russell keeps you on your toes and very edge of your seat. I will look forward to the next adventure.
Still enjoying the characters but going to take a break with something else now. Some of the back story is getting a bit repetitive from reading them back to back.
A very good book, I like the way Nick Russell puts a story together. I have read his books in order and there are portions where I laugh out loud at comments made in every book.
I have enjoyed reading all of Nick Russell's books. The characters are great. Really like Webber and Nick together. Will be reading the rest of the series.
