Rate this book
Experience the Victory, Peace, and Freedom that You Have Been Looking For! Jezebel is mentioned 22 times throughout the Bible. Bob Larson has been in the demon-fighting game for decades, and in Jezebel: Defeating Your #1 Spiritual Enemy he'll let you know how to battle the demon he encounters most often. You can hear me review the book in audible form (starting at 56:38) on this episode of Oh No, Ross and Carrie, my podcast that investigates fringe science, spirituality, claims of the paranormal... and people like Bob Larson.

You may already have a mental image of Jezebel, a name associated with lascivious, wanton and corrupting sexuality. The original Jezebel is one of the few women in the Bible, a foreigner (boo) who married King Ahab and brought Baal worship (bad) to Israel. One of the stories she is best known for is the one where Elijah the prophet squares off against Jezebel's 450 priests of Baal and 400 priests of Asherah in a my-god-versus-your-god showdown. Elijah successfully calls upon Yahweh to rain down fire from heaven and then has all of the priests murdered. Jezebel is not present for that contest, but is eventually cast down from the parapets to her death. Bob points to a powerful demon that inhabited Jezebel as the true culprit and enemy. It is the same unclean spirit found in Lilith, Ishtar, Diana, Aphrodite, Isis, Kali and many other evil women throughout the ages and cultures (we wouldn't want there to be too many female characters to track, so might as well collapse them all into a single entity). It may thus be surprising to learn that Jezebel is actually a male demon, as apparently all angels (and hence, corrupted angels) are. This one just happens to take on a feminine aspect.

While Bob often encounters Jezebel in the expected sexual impropriety and adultery cases, "she" also makes herself known for overweening and punctilious expressions of faith, and can find her way into the church through people obsessed with the outward forms of piety and rule-following. Bob calls her a "control freak". While each Larson encounter ends with the demon cast irrevocably into "the pit", somehow there are endless copies of Jezebel out there for Bob to expel.

How does Bob know all this? Now that's a good question. He claims, as of the 2015 release of this book, to have performed over 30,000 "documented" exorcisms. While he cautions against taking what demons say at face value (lying is just one more sin on the pile), he seems to trust his ability to sift through the things snarled at him under the influence and suss out the consistencies that fit within his theological framework and reading of the Bible. For example, if a demon tells Bob it has inhabited a bloodline for 1,000 generations, Bob will dismiss that particular bit of play-acting as a demonic lie: the world is only 6- to 10-thousand-years-old by his reckoning. After warning us about how you shouldn't do precisely this, he shares his own revelation that followed a week of encountering an even greater demon lurking behind Jezebel. Three times in a row, that demon claimed to be one of the seven princes of hell... (this is a big reveal, but I'm going to spoil it for you...) MAMMON!!! Those familiar with the Bible may remember Mammon as a term for money, or perhaps the love thereof. Bob generalizes this to greed, and decries a bunch of ills in our society (like D&D, of course: a perennial bogeyman) without saying a single thing about rapacious capitalist excesses. Huh.

Any Bob Larson book will contain accounts of his battles with demons, and there accordingly plenty of stories and dialogue from Jezebel encounters. He also leaves you with a Jezebel-proofing prayer, which I shall share in part: "I loose the dogs of Jezreel to speedily come and eat your flesh and lick your blood, Jezebel. I call upon the horses of Jehu to trample you in terror and judgment. There will be no mercy for you, Jezebel and Mammon, nor to all your subordinates. You are foul and despicable agents of evil, likewise deserving of the punishment due that fallen angel Lucify with whom you conspired in rebellion."

Jezebel: defeating you #1 spiritual enemy is a solid read for those of a more Pentocostal theological persuasion. Bob Larson demonstrates the importance of spiritual warfare and how powerful the demonic, especially Jezebel are.

Larson provides tips on how to spot Jezebel and her minions. He is passionate about spiritual warfare and it comes across in this book. He also goes into detail about different exorcism and the demonic behind various types of sin.

Even in the sections where one might not agree with the author, his passion for setting people free is apparent. This is a good book for those interested in the spiritual realm.

I received a copy of this book, an advance readers copy, for free from goodreads in exchange for a fair and honest review.

It's fitting that Bob Larson, who is obsessed with the concept of sex and possession, would entitle his work "Jezebel." Page after page of superstitious psychodrama ensues, leading the reader down a path of gullibility and silliness. If ever a work deserved negative stars, it was this one.

Very informative book on Jezebel

I chose a five star rating for this book, because it is the best book I have ever read that teaches you about the spirit of Jezebel. It is especially educational, if you are interested in deliverance. I will definitely read more books by this author.

A decent overview of the spiritual of Jezebel, outlined by the biblical story of Elijah’s confrontation with the ancient queen.

This book is about an exorcist that exercises demons. I thought this book would be more about how to defeat the enemy spiritual and how to guard yourself from that. It does discuss that topic to an extent, but the majority of the book is about his experience exercising demons. Although, I did enjoy the discussion of Jezebel and Elijah in the book. Also, the book pages are marked incorrectly. Chapter 1 of the book starts on page 13, and was listed as having 224 pgs, it only has 184 pages. Overall the book was not what I thought, but does have some interesting points and information.
