There are more than 25,000 Little Free Libraries around the world, and each has a one-of-a-kind origin Todd Bell, after having been laid off his job in 2009 in his mid-fifties….he went to work turning his garage office into a one-room School house in honor of his mother, June Bol, A former teacher and lifelong reader.
“As he thought about his mom during the construction process, he said to himself maybe will put books in it”.
By 2010 he launched 1000 libraries: the Bols hosted a sale in their front yard, and Todd mounted the school house full of hard covers and paper backs on a post. It was the first Little Free Library, though it wasn’t called that yet.
