I love the title of this book Swedish Death Cleaning. I am surprised to find that it is a real thing there in Sweden with its own word and all. What a wonderfully written book, clear and concise with everything flowing well.
The book begins with, and I understood the concept of community-oriented living. I appreciated starting with 6 basic rules, to set goals and write them down. There are practical and actionable suggestions for creating memory and stories books of photographs and whatnot before cleaning them out. I love the "goodbye" ritual idea too. Starting room by room is logical. But more importantly, getting rid of things with emotional attachments is hard. I like the explanation to shift your mindset from maintaining the past and focusing on relationships in the now. That seems very clear to me, and I am going to get started decluttering ASAP.
The book covers eco-friendly declutter methods, including upcycling. I thought the chapter on mindfulness and gratitude was lovely. I follow these practices throughout my life and love seeing them integrated in all areas. We don't talk about it enough, but the information regarding one's eventual death is invaluable. It can help many people.
The book was a great read. It's full of helpful suggestions. There are a couple of illustrations that are blurry and hard to see, but this in no way diminishes the quality of the written content. This book is well done, author and worth the read.
