Being a goodreads user it is the English section of this book that had the most appeal to me. Having said that, the other topics are just as good but that one was more fun!
When asked 'How does Dylan Thomas use voices to create an image of village life in Wales?', the answer was 'Putting on accents when he reads it out loud'! The student perhaps heard Dylan reading 'Under Milk Wood' for instance!
The key theme of 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' was stated to be 'Maths and female mathematicians' - well perhaps you can't say it's a wrong answer! I did enjoy this one for in answer to which statement is correct a) Please tell Damien if there are less than five books in the library. b) Please tell Damien if there are fewer than five books in the library, the splendid answer was 'Neither, libraries should always have more than five books'. Well, we definitely can't argue with that one. And I have a new image of pronouns now after being asked what they were, the student answered, 'People in favour of nouns'! Lovely.
In the music section 'What is the Italian term for a change of speed in music?', the stated answer was a beauty 'Fast-a, fast-a'. There are a variety of Italian words for this but the answer is easier to write than, say, accelerando (speeding up) or ritardando (slowing down). The only thing the student missed out was leaving out 'slow-a, slow-a'!
In the IT section 'What is OCR' brought the answer 'A sort of yellowish colour' while in Government and Politics, the question, 'In US politics what does the term impeachment mean?' brought the answer 'It's like imprisonment but with fruit'. And an apt one for the situation today in Economics was 'What happens when an economy is experiencing inflation?' and the student gave the best possible answer, or certainly perhaps the most sensible one with 'It gets blown up'.
Drama also gave a good laugh with 'What effect do the comic characters in Shakespeare's non-comic plays have?' - the answer, again it could be argued that it is a sensible answer, 'They ruin the mood'. But the best in the drama section must be, 'What is a monologue?' the marker must have been amused when he read 'When one person won't shut up'. And on that note, this is enough, thank you for listening/reading!
