Liked the variation of the puzzles. However I would have liked the option for hints as it got closer to the end. Also some require some specific knowledge... flower names etc. Good overall and I would get another by the same author.

I enjoyed a great number of the puzzles and felt a great sense of achievement when I solved them successfully.

However, I wish there’d been a note at the start mentioning that there were some codebooks at the back to help. I found them by accident days after having eventually manually worked out how Braille might work! Other codebooks however weren’t provided. Did I cheat by googling a binary-letter key? I’d worked out it was needed, but didn’t have the knowledge to solve the puzzle, so had I not resorted to the internet I would have been left disappointed here.

Additionally, a number of the puzzles were too tricky for me to fathom, particularly those where I was somehow expected to work out that an entirely random code (with no context) was being used in an entirely random way before I could attempt to solve the puzzles.

I also found the repetition that fictional sleuths Harold, Gladys, Ben or Emily had managed to solve each puzzle within a few seconds of looking at it, particularly annoying.

Inconsistency :
In 7:4 the solution stated in the back isn’t quite right for the puzzle. It doesn’t make a difference to the storyline in any way, but it’s frustrating that the cardinal direction is ignored nonetheless.

He disfrutado esta experiencia de lectura, pero debo decir que la historia se me ha quedado un poco floja. Entiendo que es solo una excusa para tenerte resolviendo pruebas, pero me hubiera gustado mas desarrollo.

Sobre las pruebas y acertijos, me parece que no tienen término medio en cuanto a dificultad. O son muy sencillas o demasiado difíciles. También me hubiera gustado que todas las pruebas fueran esenciales para la historia, algo que no sucede.

Como puntos positivos, pienso que es un libro muy entretenido y que te mantiene enganchado resolviendo una cosa y otra. También te ayuda a fortalecer la capacidad lógica y a utilizar tu ingenio.

La idea del libro me parece de diez, te hace sentir como uno más de esos investigadores.

Si sois novatos como yo en el mundillo de los enigmas, quizá no es el mejor libro para empezar. Si sois veteranos, es posible que lo disfrutéis más.

Muy entretenido para ejercitar la mente y pasar un buen rato. Me habría gustado que incluyesen más códigos al final o bien diferentes elecciones porque hay claves que se repiten en varios juegos y no están

Fun but a few issues. This puzzle book would've benefited from having hints, rather than only being able to see the solution to get a little boost. Too many of the set ups didn't have enough information to even begin to intuit the method you need to use to solve the puzzle. Another issue was that the few keys they did include were on the very last page of the book, and unless you were looking at a solution already you might not have realized they were there. It would've been helpful if, the first time you encounter a code with a key, there was an indication to check the back (or specific page number). Another issue was a lack of space to solve a lot of the puzzles, I just hate having to use scrap paper.

I had fun in general, though.

A fantastic concept, poorly executed. I'd really love to see another one, with a hint system for the puzzles and better guidance for each one. Also less expected knowledge on outside things. The storyline was terribly sweet but the puzzles were a bit of a mess.

Książkę kupiłam specjalnie z myślą o wakacyjnym relaksie, ale niemiło się zawiodłam i zdecydowanie nie polecam. Nie skreślam na razie gatunku, bo może inne tytuły z zagadkami są lepiej skonstruowane? Kiedyś się przekonam.

„Kto zabił burmistrza?” poległo przede wszystkim na poleceniach. Są zbyt ogólne, trzeba się domyślać, co autor miał na myśli, często trzeba po prostu strzelać w ciemno, a bez zaglądnięcia do odpowiedzi i tak nie dowiemy się, czy dobrze się domyśliliśmy. W efekcie praktycznie przy każdej zagadce musiałam sprawdzać rozwiązania, aż w końcu odechciało mi się próbować.

„Najlepsze” z poleceń było takie, gdzie przed czytelnikiem stało zdanie z wyrazami w rodzaju „hsjhdoabobda” i trzeba było złamać szyfr. Na czym polegał? W odpowiedziach przeczytamy, że litery są zamienione losowo. Tak. Frustracja, to jest słowo, którego szukacie.

Fabuła również nie była zbytnio wciągająca. Podejrzani zaczęli mi się mylić z poszukiwaczami, było za dużo postaci, a większość z nich i tak było niepotrzebnych. Rozwiązywanie zagadek nie przynosiło żadnej satysfakcji, bo równie dobrze można było przekartkować książkę i tak dojść do zakończenia.

Lubię wszelkiego rodzaju gry, krzyżówki, szarady, ale tak ułożone, żeby z pomocą logiki dało się je rozwiązać. W tej książce zostało to wszystko stworzone niechlujnie, jakby naprędce, niektóre zagadki były za łatwe, niektóre za trudne, a jeszcze inne niemożliwe do odgadnięcia. Nope.

Es un libro original y entretenido, pero no era lo que yo me esperaba.
En un pequeño pueblo de Inglaterra aparece muerto el Alcalde. A la investigación son invitados a participar cuatro habitantes aficionados a la resolución de crímenes. Entre Harold, Gladys, Ben y Emily van a ir resolviendo los difíciles o no tan difíciles acertijos que irán apareciendo en su camino.

La premisa es muy interesante, pero realmente no me pareció tan guay como lo que yo tenía en mente.
Hay acertijos de distintos niveles y de distintos tipos, desde matemáticos, con códigos, letras cambiadas e incluso algunos de dibujar.
Yo con este libro he descubierto que estas cosas no se me dan demasiado bien y que también soy un poco perezosa de más para tomármelo en serio.
Me imagino que si te gustan mucho los acertijos lo pasarás bien con este libro, aunque hay acertijos que son muy aleatorios en su resolución y hay otros que me parecieron muy difíciles.
Y aunque no haya sido mucho mi estilo, es algo distinto, novedoso y entretenido que no tiene porque ser un juego individual y que puede servirte para hacer otros juegos distintos con tus amigos.

Its fine as a puzzle book, though the difficulty and involvement of puzzles varies WILDLY. In some cases my wife and I could spend an hour on a puzzle and just not get it, but then proceed to the next puzzle which was solved at a glance.

If only the same logic that is required to solve the puzzles had been applied to the construction of the book then it would have made for a more fluid (and ramping) experience.

There is also the matter that while this puzzle book tells a story and attempts to bind the solutions to puzzles into something in the narrative, it just doesn't feel like it works very well and ends up being quite unrewarding.

(bad) Example: The suspect has left behind a code that has to be cracked! Can you uncover what the code says? Great, everyone loves a good bit of a code-cracking, no issues there. What's the result of your code-cracking? A revelation perhaps? No. It's the word "door". huh? How is that a rewarding experience?

It has the premise to be really great and has a lot of really fun puzzles, but it's biggest flaw is that it has lots of codes in the back to help you out such as braille, the periodic table etc, so you would naively assume everything you need to know to solve the puzzles will be contained in the book. Wrong.
You cannot complete this book unless you know:
How to read music
Different types of flowers
Different types of wine
Binary... who just knows binary off the top of their head???
I'm sure there's many more things too that require outside knowledge.

A lot of the puzzles were a huge stretch too and I had to read the answer and thought there's absolutely no way I would have got that, and I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person who loves puzzles!

Puzzles structured around a narrative. Agatha Christie this is not, but one wouldn't expect that, would they? It's as-advertised. I'm satisfied. I probably wouldn't buy another of this sort as, it turns out, my puzzling limit is much too low.

I enjoyed the murder story but the puzzles were a bit hit and miss. Some were incredibly easy and some I had no clue how to go about solving them. Some hints would have been good or else more instruction. Overall, quite enjoyable.

This book disappointed on so many levels. It's so clearly an example of a company jumping on a trend that it wasn't at all bothered about. Nothing more than a cash grab.
