From the bestselling author of Fairydale comes a dark tale about a killing machine who can’t feel anything and an innocent nun who feels too much.

Vlad Kuznetsov is a psychopath—a killing machine. Experimented on from a young age by a mad scientist, he cannot feel anything.

No pain. No remorse. No regret.

His violent episodes make him a danger to society, so he’s learned to live in the shadows.

Alone is safer. Alone means control.

Until her.

Assisi Lastra. The little nun with fire in her eyes. She should fear him—everyone else does. But instead, she stands toe-to-toe with the devil and dares him to feel.

She calms the chaos in his mind, quiets the voices that demand violence. For the first time, he craves something…more.

But his violent nature cannot be tamed. His darkness isn’t a wound to heal; it’s the essence of what and who he is. And no matter how much he craves her light, he knows one thing:

A monster like him can never love. It can only destroy.

This is an EXTREMELY DARK BOOK. Please check the triggers before reading. It is the first book in the Morally Ambiguous Duet. Parts of it were previously included in Morally Ambiguous.

Don’t let the cute cover and name fool you. This book is very dark but somehow cute ?!?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ IDK ! It’s a mixture of gore, dark, violence, abuse and cute, innocence, lust, love and humor …… somehow it works !

I have to warn anyone who wants to pick up this book to read that it is very descriptive and there is description of child abuse, sexual and physical on paper, it’s not a mention of without describing, it’s a fast and small BUT descriptive scene. I am used to this dark content, Isn’t something I like to read but I’ve read it before so I can stomach and move on, but If you can’t than this book is not for you….

This is Vlad and Sisi story. Vlad is Bratva and he was taken as a child with his twin sister, they only found him a few years later almost dead with horrific scars and his sister was dead. He was completely unaware of his sister death since he still seen her and talks to her plus he doesn’t remember anything about his time in captivity. He only learns she is dead when he is a teenager and his father tells him, he is perplexed but he still seen and talking to her but now he knows she is a ghost or a figure of his imagination. When they found him he comes back a complete psychopath at the age of 8, he loves to kill and he loves to experiment with the corpses and organs. He is utterly terrifying but somewhat cute and loyal. He has the most terrifying black outs when he sees blood and he is capable of killing dozens with his bare hands when that happens. He is a killing machine….. but how? Well that’s the mystery of what happened to him in his time in captivity. He is looking for one of his sister who was kidnapped and he won’t stop till he gets to the bottom of and destroy the monsters, even though he is a monster himself……
Sisi is sister of one of his “friend” (he truly has no one so Marcello isn’t even his friend) but she was raised in a convent away from there her criminal mob family. But she is no saint, she is actually pretty messed up herself….. she is what Vlad likes to call her a “Hell girl” .
He gets so infatuated with her and he doesn’t even understand since he can’t feel anything for anyone.
So their story becomes a mixture of cuteness and extreme violence and innocence. She’s not afraid of him but he is EXTREMELY afraid of hurting her or worst, kill her in one of his uncontrollable episodes. The ending of this book left me sad and wanting to read the second.

Well, this is messed up, and I love it. 😂 It's gory, bloody, and full of violence. So please, please, please check the TW.

I've read Morally Ambiguous before, but reading it again still hits me just like the first time. 🤭

Anywaaay, I don't remember much about what Vlad did to earn Sisi's forgiveness, but I know he eventually did.

So in this version, he better grovel on his knees in the second book. Because, man, that cliffhanger made me want to knock some sense into him. 😤

Can't wait for the next book!

The cute psycho ⭐️⭐️
This started so strong and then steadily got worse and worse and worse. I LOVED the first 20%. Dark and depraved but so captivating. I was on the edge of my seat and so bloody interested (puns intended with all the blood in this). But that was quick to change with our fmc. Our mmc was Given so much background and flashbacks and care at the beginning and then our c WAS GIVEN NOTHING. She was insufferable from early on and her character lacked literally anything you could think of. And after all the work we put into mmc early on she just like gave up. Because I ended up being annoyed by the fmc and then I felt like I was reading an entirely new lead man around the thirty percent mark I just no longer cared. The political climate was glossed over and nothing was explained. All the other relationships in the book were done poorly. There were cute romantic moments and crazy gore tho. Some dark shit in here and it had all the potential to be great then FELL SO FLAT. At the end our man girl fucking embarrassed me. Sorry but after what he did and she begged and kept trying like LORD woman. But yeah the plot went to shit. The characters went to shit. There was the occasional cute scene and then a crazy gore scene but besides that we lost the plot. We lost the story. The smut was lame af too. That last scene was insane tho. Poor gal but then also I could not relate to her whatsoever with her reactions. Yeah this was a mess. The vibes weren’t vibing. The thought process was lost. IM BUMMED I WAS EXCITED UGH. Idk if I will read the next but I’m so very let down

thank you so much Veronica for the advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

AHH !!! mafia romance with ex-nun...and a mystery. this book brings all the emotional tension, slow unraveling of secrets, and so much pain...!! It broke my heart 10% in, barely patched me up, and then absolutely destroyed me by the end. I’m obsessed with Sisi and Vlad. Their chemistry, their stories, their personalities...all their broken pieces fit together in the most devastatingly beautiful way.

I need the second book right now to heal me pls. Nobody contact me until June 18th, I am in mourning of too many things in this book.

The Cute Psycho – A Dark Mafia Romance That Will Haunt You 🔥

If you haven’t yet stepped into the twisted, intoxicating world Veronica has crafted, The Cute Psycho is your gateway. This first book in a dark romance duet is not for the faint-hearted—it’s raw, brutal, and unflinchingly real. And I devoured every word.

A year ago, Vlad and Sisi’s story wrecked me. This new version? It destroyed me in the best way. Vlad is the kind of broken hero who claws at your soul—a lonely, misunderstood man drowning in violence - yet you’ll want to protect him at all costs. Enter Sisi, an ex-nun with a darkness that mirrors his own. Their chemistry is electrifying, a twisted dance of pain and solace that’s as addictive as it is devastating

But don’t mistake this for a love story with sunshine. Veronica doesn’t shy away from the grotesque or the taboo. She paints scenes so vividly, so viscerally, that I had literal chills. The trigger warnings? Heed them. This book exposes the cruellest edges of humanity—and yet, like a flicker of light in the abyss, it dares you to hope.

That cliffhanger, though?! I’m still reeling. The ending blindsided me, and now I’m desperate for the next book.

I received an ARC of this book voluntarily, and this review reflects my unfiltered obsession. If you’re ready to be ruined by dark romance, meet Vlad and Sisi. Just… brace yourself.

This was the very first book I read by Veronica — and it might still be my absolute favorite.

The Cute Psycho is the first part of the Morally Ambiguous duet (previously published as a standalone titled Morally Ambiguous).

It definitely explores dark and heavy themes, so please check the trigger warnings and take care of yourself.

First of all, the book ends with a cliffhanger. Be prepared to scream into your pillow because WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?! (Let’s pretend I didn’t read Morally Ambiguous two years ago and totally don’t know what happens next🤣)

Second — this might seem like typical dark mafia romance, but trust me, it’s not.

Vlad and Assisi are two broken, lonely souls who had no idea how much they needed each other. But their connection feels like it was written on the stars. The idea of them being apart is simply unreal.

🥷🏼 Vlad is a killer, a true psycho (well, a typical Vlad🥱). He doesn’t mind bathed in blood, but sometimes blood itself becomes a trigger — leading to certain breakdowns. But there is someone who can deal with them and bring Vlad back to a normal state of being.

🧸 Assisi — Sisi 🥹 — spent her whole life in a monastery, preparing to become a nun (not by choice). But deep down, she always knew: this wasn’t her path. She’s drawn to different things. Like dead bodies.
Suddenly, she’s faced with a choice: stay or leave🫣

And so, despite the warnings of her family and friends, Asisi starts hanging with Vlad. He shows her a world she has never seen before. And it's cute, humorous, and comfortable.🥹

I love Veronica, I love her characters, and I love this story with all my heart.
My sincere recommendation to you! 🫶🏻

what did I just read

Everything was fine until I hit the 80% mark, and then a 7 y/o is giving head. WT@.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, and I promise I’m not trying to be hateful—but PLEASE, authors, be explicit when your book contains graphic sexual abuse of minors on page. A warning for “grooming” alone is not sufficient. Grooming refers to the process , not the abuse itself.

It was deeply upsetting and absolutely should have come with a clear, specific content warning!

Yani…

Keyifli okumalar

Wow. When I tell you that this is without a doubt the darkest romance I have ever read, I am not being dramatic. I felt a plethora of emotions while reading this book. Veronica does an amazing job of taking you from being deeply disturbed to smitten and giggly over these two characters in a matter of seconds.

Vlad and Sisi are entirely unhinged and I could not look away. Vlad is such a complex MMC with a severely traumatic past and an unclear future. The only thing that is clear to me, is the way he feels about Sisi. How can this man be so deranged but also such a cutie when it comes to her? It’s a character combination that had me locked in. The book itself is fast paced, full of action, and held my interest the entire time. I practically devoured this book. And that ending? I NEED book two right now!

Like I previously said, this is a dark, DARK book. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you check those trigger warnings and then check them again just to make sure you can handle it. This is not a book for the faint of heart or easily squeamish. But for those who can handle it, get ready for an insane ride.

What you'll get:
Dark romance
An unhinged psychopath
Ex nun
Touch her and die
Gore galore
Hilarious banter
Nickname
Forbidden romance

Okay, this book had me hooked. I think my favorite part about this entire book is the FMC, Sisi. She is feisty, a nun, hot, and her banter was my favorite part of this whole book!

Vlad, the MMC, has one traumatic past. The back story is shown throughout the book and it really made me so sad for him. But when he meets Sisi I know it will get better for him.

The writing is amazing and Veronica knows how to hook you in!

If you enjoy a good dark romance I would definitely recommend this book! It's full of triggers so visit the author for more details. There are very graphic scenes that may be triggering to some, please know your mental health matters.

Oh where to begin?…maybe at the end where I’m once again thoroughly gutted 🥺 How does she (Veronica) do this to me every time?! I mean I know how she does it, she makes me fall for the characters and then enjoys destroying me. Just kidding…. I know there’s more Sisi and Vlad story to come, and I’m so here for it!!

And now that I’ve mentioned the lovingly bloodthirsty couple, let’s talk about them. I seriously can’t love Sisi enough. Now, she grew up in a convent and was on her way to taking her nun vows, only to leave that life, fall for a mob boss and go on to commit many, many, morally questionable crimes. 🖤 However, I think she is really a saint in disguise, because man, the care she shows for her clinically psychotic boyfriend, should send her straight to the pearly gates. 🙏🏻 And how can you not also have all the feelings for Vlad with all his anger and trauma issues, going out for revenge every chance he gets.

While the heart of this story is the passionate romance, with its fair share of spice, it’s got such an intriguing plot that definitely keeps you on edge. It’s my first mafia romance, and I really got into it. It’s got a fast paced story and is very, very dark. Definitely need to check the content warnings before proceeding. But if you like it dark, I think you will really enjoy it!

Favorite Quotes:

Sisi-
“He’s talking about killing me and keeping my corpse, and the only thing I’m feeling is an intense tingling in my tummy.”

“And in a wicked way, we complement each other. He feeds my need for destruction and I feed his need for sanity.”

Vlad-
“You know I love it when you talk corpse to me.”

Veronica Lancet.

Yalan yok kitabın ilk %60-70' i çok güzeldi.

Neyse biraz Vlad' in sürünmesini okumaya gidiyorum.

It’s been a while since a book left me so confused… Did I love it? Did I hate it? I’m not sure.

Let’s talk about the positives:

• The horror element was written to perfection. Some of the scenes (specifically the bamboo one) will forever remain in my catalog as the grossest thing I’ve ever read.
• The meet-cute was AMAZING—and honestly, pretty epic.
• The MMC and FMC had excellent chemistry. Every single scene they were in together was good. I kept reading because I wanted more crumbs of their relationship.
• I loved the mystery element going on behind the scenes, and I’m sensing a supernatural angle coming into play. (Can a physiological engineer human be considered supernatural?? Maybe??)
• This book toed the line between dark romance and erotic horror… and I was kind of here for it. Maybe?

Now the negatives:

• The background characters had me EXTREMELY confused. It almost felt like I was missing a book. The author seemed to assume we already knew who these people were, but after doing some research, I could only find a book about Bianca (the only character I wasn’t confused about).
• How old were these side characters? Claudia was supposed to be a child, but she’s getting tutored by the same person as the 21-year-old FMC?
• Don’t get me started on the FMC’s brother’s storyline… How did he betray Lina? WHY did he want to unalive himself??? I’m still confused. It felt like the author was avoiding spoilers for another book, but bringing it up like this just felt sloppy.

Final thoughts:

I’m not sure if I’m going to read the next book… and if I do, it’s probably because I want to know what really happened to the MMC and his sisters, and who’s behind it all.

I’m usually all for an HEA, but honestly, I kind of want Sisi to be done with all this drama and just go live her life. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

What happens when you pair a man engineered to have no emotions... a man that is a true killing machine living a solitary life with a fierce nun? Absolutely not what you think! Vlad Kuznetsov and Assisi Lastra's connection defies logic. A dark and intense journey is what they are on in The Cute Psycho by Veronica Lancet. This is the first book in the Morally Ambiguous Duet Series. The sequel, His Hell Girl, is set to release on June 28, 2025.

Let me start by saying, this book is not for the faint of heart. It’s a deep dive into the darkest corners of human emotion and behavior. If you're not into dark romance, this might not be your cup of tea. But if you are, buckle up. Dark books are my thing. At some point in the book, I thought to myself... this is kinda dark.

Vlad is a complex character. Devoid of emotion yet oddly captivating. Assisi is a beacon of light in his dark world. Their interactions are intense, and the chemistry is palpable. The writing sucks you into their twisted world.

I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish. The plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat, and the emotional depth of the characters added layers to the story. It's a five-star read for me.

The Vibes it Brings:
🔥 Dark Romance
🖤 Morally Ambiguous Characters
🔪 Psychological Thrills
💔 Emotional Turmoil
⛪ Forbidden Love
🧠 Mind Games
💣 Explosive Chemistry
🧬 Experimental Past
📖 Cliffhanger Ending

The Cute Psycho is a masterclass in very dark romance. Veronica Lancet doesn't shy away from exploring the complexities of her characters. This is a gripping and totally unforgettable read. If you're ready to explore the darker side of love, this book is a must-read. I received a copy from Veronica Lancet and The Smuthood. The opinions are all my own.

To sum it all up—this book is hands down the most unapologetically wild and intense read I’ve come across this year. Seriously, what did I just read?! It left me completely stunned, and I’m honestly questioning my morals now... or maybe I’ve just thrown them out the window entirely.
As someone who only occasionally dips into the world of dark romance, I’ve read just a handful of books in the genre—but none of them even come close to this one.

Veronica Lancet did not hold back with her words. This book is a whole experience, and I strongly recommend reading it with caution.

What I really loved is how Lancet masterfully blends extremely dark and brutal themes with just the right amount of twisted chemistry and chaotic fun between the characters.

The intensity of the story had me stopping several times just to process everything—and even then, I couldn’t tear myself away. Every minute of reading it was captivating.

In conclusion, this book is bold, intense, and wildly unforgettable. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for a dark romance that really pushes boundaries while still keeping you hooked—this one's an absolute must-read.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book was so dark and unhinged and I loved every second of it. Make sure to look at trigger warnings before reading this. I loved Vlad and Sisi so much. They are both unhinged. They commit so many crimes together, I love it. I can’t wait for book 2.

Vlad and Sisi’s story is dark dark dark!

Please take the trigger warnings seriously because my pregnant emotional ass had to skim through certain stuff which is a rarity for me.

Vlad lost his entire family at an early age. For a boy who never felt anything, the loss of his sisters hit him hard. Dead, his twin haunts his daily life. The younger was kidnapped and has been missing for years.
But he never stopped trying to find out what happened to her.
He dives deep into the sex trafficking world trying to find her.

Vlad is a killer. He does it as a job and for fun. He enjoys bathing in blood. Literally. And possibly eating them?! It makes him go on a berserker rampage and he blacks out and utterly destroys anything and anyone until he’s tranq’d.
He’s a twisted man and a twisted villain.

Sisi is Vlad’s friends sister who’s lived her entire life in a convent. Until a serial killer broke the safety and trust of the place, she went to live with her brother and Sisi and Vlad became very unlikely partners..

Sisi is pretty unhinged and lacks any type of emotional reaction.. just like Vlad. They both have psychotic tendencies. But she can hide it much better.
What I absolutely enjoyed was Sisi learning to understand Vlad and Vlad going slow with Sisi. They both found a friendship and slight obsession with one another that turned into I guess romance? Lol.

I wouldn’t know what to call their relationship after the cliffhanger of this book. They both have some really intense mental issues and I’m a little speechless.

Now this book is very heavy on sex trafficking, which highlights the evil of child sex trafficking and abuse. There’s a few scenes that are very intense. Especially when you go back to Vlad‘s childhood. Please heed the warnings!
Oh and cannibalism…

Overall, I’m obsessed with this author. There’s nothing that she has written that I haven’t loved and I truly enjoyed their story and I cannot wait for part two.

This shit is too effed up for me, they're too frustrating for me to deal with. There's descriptive child se*ual abuse around the end and the way the scene was told is down right traumatic...
They also talk like they're in the regency era while the book being contemporary??? That makes no effing sense and the writing seems juvenile bc of that.
I will not read book 2 bc both characters are childish and immature. I don’t like how Sisi tries to moralize his actions. She's kind but at the same time heartless, which makes no fucking sense???

I have seen so many great reviews for this book, but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. We were warned how dark and graphic this was, and I thought I could handle it, but a lot of the gory details and torturing seemed to be unnecessary. It was almost constant and I had to take breaks. Finally I just stopped the book a little after half way through and couldn’t finish. This was my first DNF book and I’m disappointed I didn’t like this like a lot of people seemed to have.

🎶 Tell all of your friends that I'm crazy and drive you mad. That I'm such a stalker, a watcher, a psychopath 🎶

Vlad Kuznetsov (H) was made to kill. The product of brutal experimentation and a childhood stripped of humanity, he feels nothing—no pain, no remorse, no guilt. A ghost in the criminal underworld, Vlad lives by one rule: stay in control, stay alone. It’s the only way to keep the monster caged. Until he meets her.

"I'm yours," she says, "always and forever." Her fingers caress my hair, her chin resting on top of my head. "Just like you are mine," she continues, her arms tightening around me.

Vlad shutting her out was my last straw!!!!It was the cruelest form of torture in the entire book, and considering the unhinged, twisted things this man does, that is saying a lot. He pushed her away to save face because he hurt the one person he wanted to protect. But in doing so, he hurt her more deeply than any physical wound ever could. Sisi asked for one thing—for Vlad not to leave her—and he did it anyway. And not just with a simple goodbye, but with silence and distance that cut her down. Whether he regrets it remains to be seen. It was painful, to say the least. Sisi stood by him, saw him, and accepted him, but he did not match her energy in the end.

"I went to a psychiatrist," I tell her

"Always come to me." She raises her head to look me in the eye, "Always."

"Yes," I say, "always.

Sisi is just as twisted as he is. She was still willing to stay, even after he lost control during that blackout. She wanted to bring him back from it. But when he hurt her, it broke something in him again. He shut her out, turned off the part of himself that could feel, even for her. And so he felt nothing. Vlad is a psychopath to the highest degree. He was experimented on as a child, shaped into something unfeeling. And yet, he cared for Sisi. He never claimed to be a good person. He never promised to change. Maybe this was always going to happen. Vlad has been through hell and back. He is not redeemable. But he has a sliver of softness where Sisi is concerned, and he does not even understand why. He only wanted her. She grounded him, balanced him, made him feel somewhat human. Still, it was not enough in the end. I am holding out hope for a Vlad and Sisi comeback. And heavy groveling. But Sisi had her breaking point too, and she snapped.

"This." He motions between the two of us, his voice almost robotic. "I kept you around because I thought you could help me with my episodes, but clearly, it's not working."

Their connection was physical, yes, but it went far beyond that. It was emotional in a twisted, raw way. Sisi needed freedom, and Vlad was the first one to show her what was really out there. Her brother told her to stay away from him. She didn’t listen. Vlad and Sisi built something on chaos, violence, obsession, and somehow it still felt like love. Vlad is the definition of an unhinged golden retriever. He went above and beyond for her in the most depraved ways. He is not a good person. Do not mistake him for a misunderstood guy. He is not. But there is more to him. I feel for him because of what he lost and what he could have had if he had not been turned into this. Sisi understands that. She never expected him to change. She liked him exactly as he was, even with his twisted mind and taste for torture. She has her own darkness too. Her past still needs to be explored, and I am waiting for her rage-filled meltdown moment.

This story is not for everyone. It is dark. It is disturbing . It is filled with questionable choices and heavy material. But Vlad never lies to Sisi. He tells her exactly what he is, what he feels - or does not feel. His actions are not meant to be morally acceptable. He simply is what he is.Read it or don’t. That is up to you. But I love Vlad and Sisi. I really do.

I received an ARC for this book, and I kid you not, I was over the moon when I received the mail. Vlad and Sisi have always been close to my heart, especially Vlad throughout the morally questionable series. If you have a weak heart, this book isn't for you. I loved how Sisi got to discover herself again and Vlad was just there for her, with her taking in every inch of madness with her. Vlad's childhood broke my heart, I tell you. I love Catalina, Claudia and Sisi together so much and also Marcello and Vlad too. The story never bored me for once, and I loved every bit of it, and I can't wait for book 2 to release already. Vladsisi are my babies, and I love them.

The book is very dark, and if you can't stomach the gore and get triggered easily, this isn't for you.
