1.5 spoon-fed ⭐️

This was something… but it wasn’t good.

I read 24960 years ago, and I remember it vividly because it was dark, serious and unexpected, and I couldn’t put it down. So I was excited to read this. I was a fool.
Another unique author took a popular BookTok trope/cliché and turned it into a safe, spoon fed version of what ever this is.

Plot:
Graydon wants revenge on Marian because of a lie, but Marian is snatched up by a secret order and assaulted and abused before he can get his own revenge, and he’s really bummed about that 😭
Because Graydon suddenly loves her so much, he decides to go to the secret order to rescue her. In order to free her, the leader of the order demands that he must marry her 😂 because they have “awesome bloodlines.”
THE END.
🙇‍♀️

There is so much wrong with this book.
The characters are constantly aware of every feeling they have at all times, which results in zero tension or angst. They also don’t have real choices laid out for them, so we’re being spoon fed both the romance and the cruelty of the order.

I am in pursuit of feelings, and they were not engaging with the spoon-feeding!

If Graydon hadn’t had his own POV, I might have suspected he was complicit with the order. I was hoping for a plot twist, but dual POV strikes again. Nothing happens.

Graydon is a lovesick puppy from the beginning, and the only darkness in this story is the grape in the underground. It was completely unnecessary and added only to call the story “dark.”
It serves no purpose for the characters or the plot, it literally is the plot 🤦‍♀️
There is no dark atmosphere or world building around the order, and then trying to add a Disney romance seemed like an odd choice.

Having read 24960, this was not as shocking and by no means as dark. This is a watered down version with an added golden retriever hero, because that’s what BookTok wants?

I don’t know what this story wanted to be. It’s not romantic, and it’s not suspense. Graydon is a plot device a “performance hero” with all the right phrases.

We are told Marian is a shark running multiple businesses, but she’s whining and screaming through the whole book. She comes dangerously close to TSTL (I never use that term, but today it’s all that comes to mind).

Her revenge against the guards was a little hasty. It was gore, but I didn’t feel vindicated. Again, in 24960, the revenge and female rage were cathartic, this felt like, “Oh, it’s time to wrap up, let’s add a revenge scene.”

So it was not dark. It wasn’t a romance. But there was gore and grape, but that is not a plot.

0/5 ❤️‍🩹 Emotionally devastating
0/5 ❤️ Tension between MCs
1/5 ❤️‍🔥 Spice
1/5 📖 Did the plot serve the romance

Should you read it? No.

Who would like it? I don’t know. someone with low expectations who doesn’t need a plot.

Drayton and Marion we in love when she was 18 almost 19 years old and he was a senior in college that Marion’s mother was a professor. When her brilliant but conniving mother interferes it is all downhill from there. No one knew that they were being manipulated except for one man and it wasn't until the student became the teacher. Marion knew there was something about her mother that was very deceiving. When the man that Marion loves is destroyed because of a vendetta that she had no idea that existed she soon finds out that she is again in the middle of vengeance.

Drayton has been exiled and stripped of the "heir" title to his family's legacy due to a betrayal in the darkest and most devious way. He was sent to the belly of the beast so to speak and has been named The Devil of Hollywood. A name he has made for himself in the pits of hell in the darkest part of Hollywood.

Drayton has been biding his time to seek his revenge and when he learns that the very person who turned his world upside down will be back the states he makes his move. What a move it is. He is coming and death won't come swiftly. Only darkness and torment will. This is a book that has been rated static white in the A.A. Dark, Alaska Angelini world and the 3 tiers of darkness scale and it is not to be taken lightly. Read with caution as this is the darkness book so far under the A.A Dark and so much more graphic detail than the Alaska Angelini version. Bravo A.A. Dark. This was one for the record books. I loved every dark and horror filled detail.

I told myself that I was gonna give myself some time to process. That I needed to wrap my head around some of the dynamics of the elite world because it left my mind in a whirlwind. However what is clear and evident in this story was AA Dark writing I know and love. The Mad girl publishing rating for this story is oblivion and I know better term to describe where this story leads to.

The crossover characters and the reminder of the type of people we are dealing with gave me goosebumps. The book was nostalgic as I revisited the reasons why I am fan of AA Dark. Her ability to tell a story in the most devastating, eye squinting blink a few times to ensure that really y just happened kinda of way .

This story is absolutely grim and grasping all at once and there must be something severely wrong with me to be lured to keep reading those pages but I did and don’t regret a single minute.

Please read responsibly…

I still need to process some of this world tho cause 🤔 huh.

Standing ovation for the OG Queen of pitch-black reads.
This book is officially rated OBLIVION on her 3 Tiers of Darkness Scale, and honestly? That tracks. I haven't seen her put a heroine through this much since Anna Monroe.

If you’re not familiar with the In Another Life series, think choose-your-own-adventure for adults. Alaska Angelini writes two versions of the same story: her Alaska Angelini version is dark romance, while the A.A. Dark version leans fully into horror. Both start the same—the opening chapters are identical—but then the story splits and becomes something entirely different depending on which path you choose. Alternate realities. Same characters. Very different fates. (And yes, read both. Trust me.)

If you loved the 24690 series and Garden of the Gods, the A.A. Dark version of Devil of Hollywood dives even deeper into her horror universe. You first meet Drayton in Garden of the Gods, and if you’ve read the Gardens, then you already know exactly who Marian is—the red-headed doctor’s daughter.

You can go into this book blind and read it as a standalone, but it hits so much harder if you’re familiar with her world and its twisted lore.

Without giving too much away: Drayton was destroyed by a lie Marian told when they were young and in love. Marian was taken away to London, while Drayton lost everything—his heir status, his family, his name. Cast aside and reborn as punishment, he became The Devil of Hollywood. And he never forgot the girl who ruined him.

Years pass. The obsession festers. The revenge grows darker.

When Drayton finally gets his chance, everything unravels. Marian is pulled into horrors even he couldn’t have imagined.

With lies, manipulation, obsession, revenge, and carefully laid plans colliding, the question becomes: can the love they once shared survive… or will they burn in the underground world they were never meant to escape?

⭐ 10 fucked-up, OBLIVION-level, you-need-to-read-this-now stars.

I really love A.A. Dark. The pure darkness in these books is amazing and I love that things are often not as they seem. It's very satisfying, even though it can be very hard to read.

I also loved that she expanded the world, which means we'll be getting more books in the future and that's super exciting. This series is special since you can choose to read the dark romance version of the book or the horror version. This was horror. Definitely recommend, but check your triggers.

Favorite quotes:

> Love doesn’t always manifest in a positive way. Sometimes love becomes tainted and dark. It warps into something deadly.

> “It’s not good to see you. I have a meeting in ten minutes. Can I help you with something? Perhaps the direction of the door so you can see yourself out?”

> “Ask me if I would walk through hell to protect her. Ask me if I would bring war on the entire world if it meant saving her. Ask me about anything but love.”

> “There he is. There’s the real Dray. Don’t hold back because this pain didn’t come at your hand. We both know you wished it did. Congratulations. Karma did what you couldn’t. It’s not your revenge, but it was gifted to you anyway. Happy Wedding Day, Drayton. This is everything I’ve ever wanted and more.”

So dark but so good

Please be aware going into the story that it is not for everyone. Go to the author’s website, check the triggers and proceed with caution because there are many dark elements in the story that might be too much for some.

I am constantly in awe of the mind AA Dark. I have yet to find a story of hers that has not completely wrecked me in all the best possible ways.

Without giving too much away, this story is a combination of second chance romance, revenge and horror.

Like all of AA Dark’s FMCs, Marion becomes a forced to be reckoned with.
Circumstances may have cast her in the role of victim, but she refuses to play that part and rises above the trauma to carve out her own version of happily ever after. Where others would cower and cave, Marion becomes something to be feared.

I cannot recommend this book enough. Both versions are amazing, but I have a special place in my heart for the AA Dark version as, in the story, a whole new world of darkness is introduced.

What a Wild Ride!!!

Oh Wow is all I can say!!! This book had me in all kinds of feelings. And the ending… Adding to AA Dark’s amazing world!!! All I can see is I would love to see a Book with Marian, Everleigh and Ana. I need to see the women all band together and take over!! But I digress.. I was pulling for Drayton, and although I didn’t love him at times, I understood his feelings. The torment Marian had to endure was horrific and dark. But the ending has me stunned and amazed at how strong she became and look forward to hopefully seeing her again. This author truly knows how to write beyond pitch black and is always able to weave a story that pulls at you and keeps you entranced! And omg, the Audio was phenomenal!!!! Teddy Hamilton and Andi Eloise had me sucked in from the beginning and had me feeling all the emotions! Amazing story and the narrators made it even more real! 5 STARS all around! Highly recommend but Please read the TW,s before going in if you aren’t sure about how dark you can read.

This book knocked my socks off. Here are some things to look forward to that I enjoyed:
This book is for dark readers with no triggers.
Don't be fooled. Drayton and Marian are not who they appear to be.
Drayton has plans for her but those get derailed. Badly.
Marian endures some things that change her forever (I had to pause to breath and cry a few times).
Buckle up for The Order and The Unavowed. The monsters here are the worst of the worst.
Be prepared for character cameos from this authors universe (there's a few that had me screaming), a glimpse at the past of one of my favorite characters from her GotG series (I was giddy, kicking my feet) as well as a past glimpse on my most hated villain from GotG (I loathe this character so much).
The twists in this are amazing, I didn't see them coming. I guessed wrong every time.
And the ending blew my mind.

Whew! I went into this book with an expectation that I’m taking another hit of the classic tropes that I expect from this writer. We start with a “classic” Aa dark and then we get something slightly different, we get heisty feel, mystery, and twists that change the game and tone.

But I couldn’t have prepared myself for how much bigger our world is going to get and the dots are connecting and the reveals that get me excited and curiosities sated. There’s loss, angst, revenge, mystery, and more with some new and old faces!

This one feels like something we’ve been working towards for years and we finally made it. It’s like there was a roadmap in place that Aa Dark has been planning and leading us on to open us up and we need to know more.

This is one you are going to want to check your triggers before you proceed. If you feel you're ready for it, pull up your bootstraps and settle in for an incredibly wild ride! You will meet some well fleshed out new characters, see some favorite characters that you wouldn't have ever expected to see together. Yes, this book turns the A.A Dark world upside down. Fast paced, impeccable writing, fascinating world building and characters, this is definitely a don't miss book. I highly recommend this book!

While the story is engaging, it didn’t fully work for me. Up until the kidnapping, I really loved it, but after that it went downhill because some plot choices felt excessive. When Drayton goes after Marian, the relationship leans heavily into manipulation and control, making it hard to emotionally connect with them. Instead of growth, the romance often felt like an acceptance of dysfunction rather than a transformation of it

Oooh this is oblivion, pitched, dark than darker dark romance/erotica horror.

Many trigger warnings that you absolutely need to comprehend before getting into this one but so freaking good.

A.A. Dark knows how to create extreme spicy scenes that are so morally wrong but so good. I’m not giving more details as this masterpiece need to be read and enjoyed without knowing (except trigger warnings)

Happy reading :)

Drayton and Marian are both really well fleshed out characters here. I’ve been all up in revenge reads here and this one definitely takes the cake.

There is so much betrayal and twists it’s hard to correlate them into words. Between the manipulation at the top and how Marian was unaware, to her mom and how Drayton lost his title, my mind was blown!

As always with Alaska Angelini and AA Dark’s books, make sure to check your triggers before diving in. Your mental health matters!

This book was amazing. Very graphic scenes but you get to know the characters and if you been the MFC shoes you will be routing her on. This book felt good to read because of the retribution I would never be able to get. This book healed me in so many ways. Also it kind of reminded me of 24690 with all the graphic scenes which I also loved. This book is rated Oblivion so please check trigger warnings.

I honestly choose this audiobook solely for the Narrator Teddy Hamilton. I didn’t even read the description. That being said going in blind and not knowing this was a book five probably wasn’t the best. This gave the feel of a Rina Kent God of Legacy series. You have powerful families controlling everything, choosing and demanding everyone stay in line. There are some serious dark moments in this as the FMC gets kidnapped while our FMC is trying to kidnap her. Yes you heard that right. However, she is brutally assaulted and tormented and it broke me. It was to real for me trying to use books to escape. So personally for me I enjoyed the first half of the book. The more romanticized version of the story and the planning and backstory. The second half of focusing on the writing and emotions that it enabled was well written and definitely made me think and hurt for the world. The end was not what I was expecting and I think having read the first four books and continuing with the series would definitely make a difference. I think this series is too dark for me. That being said I would recommend this to those who can handle the triggers and who love a dark romance with unhinged MMC. The narrators by Andi Eloise, Teddy Hamilton especially Teddy did an amazing job. Andi made me feel her pain and torture. I cried for her. I wanted revenge for her. Exceptional narration. So only read this one if you want darker dark romance.

The Devil of Hollywood Review

So, you haven’t met the devil yet? Let me introduce you to the darker side of Drayton and Marion. He and Marion were in love, but fate never intended them to be together. In this Oblivion version, A.A. Dark takes us deep into the darkest corners of the three tiers, Pitch Black, Static White, and Oblivion where the story takes a turn far darker and way more brutal than the Alaska version.
The beginning starts out the same but the endings are very different. This is a twisted love story that proves (yet again) how brilliant A.A.s mind truly is. This one is dark, raw, and unforgettable, just what we’d expect from an A.A. Dark book. Brilliant Alaska! 💋
