The main purpose of this book is to provide the student with a clear and thorough presentation of the theory and applications of engineering mechanics. To achieve this objective the author has by no means worked alone; to a large extent, this book, through its 11 editions has been shaped by the comments and suggestions of hundreds of reviewers in the teaching profession as well as many of the author's students
I didn't read the chapters of this book so thoroughly, but the question bank of this book is very extensive and consists good problems. Completed a summer assignment from this book consisting of more than a 100 questions for my Engineering Mechanics assignment in my first year of BE.
As far as I know, this is the best textbook to use for learning statics. Quite a few foundational concepts are just lightly touched upon, likely because the authors assume you've been exposed to them before.
It helped me to understand the basics of statics, however, the explanation is often quite hard to follow and you need a lot of other background information that the book just expects you to know.
While not the easiest read, it's arguably the most effective statics textbook available. The author's approach of building concepts systematically makes even complex topics digestible. However, it demands dedication - you can't just skim through it. Worth noting: The homework problems are particularly well-crafted, ranging from straightforward to challengingly complex. This gradual progression is invaluable for building confidence and competence.
It is actually for civil engineering. I am mechanical engineer and I was bored while I was studying it. The auditors of the book are also civil engineer.
