Detective Carter has a lot going for him. An impeccable career, more medals than any cop can dream of, and a long-term girlfriend. When a tragedy strikes, followed by a reputation-wrecking incident, his world falls apart. He ends up in the Loser’s Division, the last stop for the worst cops, in a town with the highest crime rate in the country. And his new partner is a bit of a problem. The Hawaiian shirt-clad, Viking-lookalike mountain of a man can’t take no for an answer. No, I don’t want a partner. No, I don’t want a friend. Carter keeps saying it, but Tye Thorsen refuses to listen.

Detective Thorsen stepped on a few toes in his career, and most of them were corrupted. The last one got him transferred to the Loser’s Division, and he’s not too happy about it until he meets his new partner. Tall, dark, and brooding happens to be his weakness, and he’s more than willing to get to know Detective Carter better. However, the moody, closed-off man is reluctant to the idea. He's unapproachable and unfriendly, but it doesn’t make him any less bangable. He's also extremely lovable, but Tye knows better than to fall for a straight guy.
When a serial killer strikes, shrouding the soulless town in a fog of misery, only two cops can stop him. But first, they have to learn to help, trust, and like each other. Anything but love each other, because that would be their downfall.

This book is a standalone and it’s the first title in the series called The Loser’s Division. It features themes like straight-to-gay, gay-for-you, and hurt/comfort.
For mature readers 18+.
Each title in this series will feature one of the characters, and the following are:
#2 Bazooka
#3 Scarface.

It was one of those Sunday morning reads when the electricity is out and your phone is dead.🪫
Cheesy. ✅
Fun.✅
And an excruciatingly slow romance:✅
So much so, that I didn’t appreciate the effort of not letting the characters have sex until the very end. It was almost comical how many times they got interrupted. Let them break some bed for god sake.

Tye and Carter embark on a fantastic journey as reluctant partners, facing a harrowing adventure where their lives are at risk. Due to being forced into close proximity, they must confront their growing feelings for each other. This story has a great push-pull dynamic alongside a grumpy sunshine partner duo. All of the above tropes create an addictive, suspenseful romance that I could not put down.

Another element that makes this a great story is the stark personality differences between Tye and Carter. Tye is affectionate, friendly, and completely adorable, while Carter is reserved, standoffish, and grumpy. They are forced to work together, and their partnership quickly evolves and grows in surprising directions that I couldn't get enough of. Watching Carter slowly realize that his affection and feelings for Tye are more than just professional was wonderfully done and made for a fantastic slow-burn romance.

Overall, I could not get enough of these two and look forward to the next entries in this series.

Great idea, not so good execution

Honestly, this book had a lot of potential. The concept is good, and the push and pull sexual tension kept you wanting to see how it would play out. Overall, the main and side characters are good, although sometimes they really are pathetic losers and not in an endearing way. But I wish there was more police/detective work and even just more on the main characters instead of the main focus being the tension and relationship between them. The synopsis talks about a serial killer on the loose, but a good portion of the first half doesn’t really focus on the murder and it doesn’t become serial until after halfway through.

There is also no real concept of time in this story. What you would assume was only a day turns out to be weeks later with a bunch of stuff that happened that you just don’t know about. You think weeks have passed but really it was just a day or two. I genuinely couldn’t tell you how much time passes over the course of this story. And it’s frustrating because apparently the characters have a ton going on in their lives but you just don’t know about it because the main focus is ONLY the sexual tension. What do you mean it wasn’t a day that went by but instead two weeks where an MC got shot at, punched, examined more bodies, and killed people????? We only find that out over a small spoken paragraph??? We get it, there’s sexual tension. But add in the juicy bits from their work lives too! The side plot of the serial killer would be picked up then put back down, then it felt as if the resolution was rushed so it could be quickly addressed before hitting the end.

Over 300 pages and this story has a lot going on but really nothing happening. It can also do with another round of edits. There’s some words missing in sentences that I had to reread multiple times trying to understand what they meant, some of them I still couldn’t figure it out. I’m still interested in book 2, so hoping that one hits better.

♥♥♥ Thank you to Luna Lay for providing this ARC for an honest review! ♥♥♥

Do not let the cover fool you, this is a slooooooooow burn! This story was flawless. I loved the detective/case work. Grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, self discovery & holy angst! Nothing felt rushed, everything fell into place perfectly timed. Loved it!

This was soo good! I’m not usually a slow burn kinda girl and tend to get impatient, but I just loved this book and these two men. There was angst (some kind of it is a must for me), wonderful banter between MC’s, sarcasm that was hitting hard and had me snickering at times and a sweet building love story through out it all. Add in the mystery crime and other side characters and it was right entertaining!

Tye, our Viking really is a great big teddy bear I felt myself physically yearning to hug. The man can be wall of muscle if needed but deep down he’s the sweetest and gives no shits about anything but showing how he feels. Right or possibly wrong. He feels and he shows it. But thing is.. he’s always lovely but is no doormat. Thank you Luna for that.. I can’t stand doormat characters. I want MC’s to know their worth and stand up for themselves even when they are hopelessly in love. 🥰

Carter, I loved his denial, his fight in more ways than one, his utter pissed off regard that he tries to hold on to… and how all of those things come crumbling down. The way he lost was beautiful to see and go through with him. Does that make sense?

Now.. I need to know who the next books are for cause I have my heart set on two couples I was getting major feels for during this book.

Trigger is a wonderful grumpy/sunshine cop romance.

Thorsen and Carter are cops in disgrace and forced to be partners in what has been dubbed the Loser’s Division.

Carter is a black cat, broody with a hot temper. He wants nothing to do with his new golden retriever partner Thorsen.

After being trapped together due to a collar gone wrong for a few days it is obvious there are feelings present whether Carter wants them or not. After all Carter is straight isn’t he???

Thorsen has an immediate attraction to his surly partner but this only makes him more interested.

After some delicious banter and will they won’t they tension these partners manage to solve a local murder mystery.

I read this as an ARC and really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next installments.

Gosh - okay. This was my first book by the author.

I never knew who's point of view I was reading. The two main characters' voices read the exact same despite them being opposite in personalities. Plus, the switching POV in the middle of the chapters sometimes threw me off, and I'd have to flip back.

The writing felt all over the place, and the story flow was super choppy.

There were so many holes in the story, random facts and thoughts thrown in that never had any relevance, and story lines that never went anywhere.

I finished this with more questions than answers.

I'll end with the spice was well written when they actually did get together, but it wasn't enough to keep me engaged in the book or outweigh the above.

This maybe a slow burn but when the spice hits damn does it hit hot 🔥 Tye is one big walking viking god with a flirty and sweet disposition well Dom is angry and more then a little ruff around the edges. But even his grump exterior can't hold up to sweet Tye.
There are so many side characters in this book, and I can't wait to read all their stories.

“Carter is a loaded gun hanging over the fireplace in the first chapter. Don’t be his victim when it fires in the end.”

2.5 stars rounded down to 2.

what a hot mess of a book. genuinely. this felt like it barely was edited or beta-read. so many things didn't make sense. HOWEVER: was it very hot at certain parts? yes. will i read the next book and subsequent ones? ....yes.

I had my ups and downs with this. I really liked the idea and the world-building of the LD. Not only that, but I enjoyed the MMC's when they were together, mostly. I didn't like that the GF of one of the MMC's was there almost till the end. It felt that they flirted more with the women in this book, than with each other. There was just too much drama with the women for my personal liking overall. There's a lot of hot-and-cold between the two MMC's. I couldn't grab Carter for a long time. I still really like the word-building. The Cover is great too.

I loved the idea of a Gotham City like kind of setting but the execution left a lot to be desired.
Way too horny, the number of mentions of them being hard is ridiculous. Even a times when it felt out of place.
It's a series so it might be resolved later but the original sept up is barely ever brought up and it felt like there wasn't much development there.

The back and forth between Carter and Thorsen was a little too repetitive sometimes.

‼️Check TW’s before reading‼️

What an amazingly brilliant book, the banter and heat between them was so wonderful to read. I really felt for Tye with his longing for Carter and being unsure whether it would ever truly work out for him. I mean Carters straight!

The tension, push ‘n’ pull and buildup between Carter and Tye went on for a lot of the book, with their touches and interactions getting a little more hotter each time, only to be interrupted by someone “every time”!!
It would get you all worked up as you read about them getting hot ‘n’ heavy only for it to all stop! Such a tease Luna!!

Tye was such a wonderful character, so charming, flirtatious and down right endearing. He had his heart set on Carter and his teasing banter and gentle touches were so sweet and very hot!! I really loved how Tye bought joy and laughter back into Carters life, it was all so brilliantly written, especially reading how Carter wrestles with his sexuality. But in the end he can’t resist the obvious pull connection between them.

I just loved every minute of this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Detective Carter otherwise known as "The Trigger"
* Volatile. Driven. Lonely.
* Cold as ice. Dangerous.
* Straight!!
Detective Thorsen otherwise known as "The Viking"
* Disciplined. Chill. Collected.
* Flirtatious. Bisexual.
* Relentless.

Carter had a set path for his life, work hard catch criminals and date Vicky. Someone he didn’t really love but just went along with their relationship and her plans she’s set out for their and his future. He knew he had anger issues ever since loosing his partner, he just can’t forgive himself for not being able to stop his death. He was just numb to the world now but all that changes with an infuriating flirtatious Hawaiian shirt wearing Viking of a man walked in to their office as his new partner, a partner he doesn’t want!

Tye has been transferred to the LD department (Looser division) in Smitsville or ‘’Shítsvílle’ as he calls it, after sleeping with the Mayors daughter and booted here. Still he was going to make the most of it, get to know new people, have fun and solve crime, which there was a lot of. That is until he meets his handsome, gorgeous, sexy and as sin grumpy angry new partner.

There is a serial killer on the loose and Carter and Tye have to work together to find the murdered. When they are knocked out and left for dead in a locked bunker, Carter is forced for three days to let down a tiny bit of his wall and get to know Tye a little more.

Tye can’t let go of his intense need to be with Carter, Carter determined to resist the pull, I mean he can’t be attracted to a man right?

5 stars, to my favorites top 10 because it's been a while since a book made me like this one.

And even when this year I've discovered some gems, not one compares to this one, I was just giggling and trying to keep me awake at 4:30AM just to read a little bit more, this just hit the right spots from the start with such amazing flawed mature characters, and of course this is the kind of smut that I can't skim, it's integrated so well into the story and had me flustered all the time.
Thorsen being the flirty/joking character made me afraid because usually they end up being so childish, but Tye doesn't feel like that at all, it still shows a high level of maturity and kindness that made me feall in love with him instantly, the way he soothed Carter, the way he was playful around him, the way he protected him, the way his feels kept pouring during all the book is such a beautiful read, those feels including the jealousy that really spiced up the character.
Carter is the kind of char that I love, and he didn't dissapoint me, I wanted to cry when his rage couldn't be controled, how his girlfriend treated him, and it also made me afraid when he kept shoving that damn gun in everyone faces haha, reading how he felt when Thorsen opened his way into his heart was also amazing, him not even noticing how Tye was already so integrated on his life in such a small time, him being straight and almost 40yo was a big obstacle but even when he wasn't aware he keep accepting all the big and small gestures from the big boy, knowing what happened to his past partner was also devastating, almost at the end I wanted to slap him a little for what he did to my boy Thorsen but from there it was an easy ride (pun intended).

The end was also perfect for these two, we didn't get to know much from Bazooka and Scarface was a pain in the ass in the bad way but I'm gonna wait for their books too.

Dominic Carter has landed himself in the Loser’s Division of the police department after an unfortunate tragedy befalls his partner. Determined to work alone, he is less than thrilled to be saddled with Tye Thorsen as his new partner. Thorsen is everything Carter is not: funny, charismatic, carefree. But for some reason Tye takes a liking to him, and no matter what Carter does, he can’t seem to shake him off. Even with a series of murders drawing them out of the office and putting them in danger, Carter can’t deny there is something about Tye that draws him in, that makes his heart race and his body react in ways he doesn’t understand. Carter is straight, at least he thinks so, but his attraction to Tye is undeniable, and if he’s learned one thing on the job it’s not to take anything for granted.

This was a fun read! I loved Tye. He was hilarious and kind of a himbo but also not. I loved his attitude and that he was just the epitome of a golden retriever. I loved that he never gave up on Carter even when he tried to push him away. Carter was interesting too. I think he had the more realistic depiction, with his confusion and reluctance to trust other people. I liked seeing him flustered by Tye’s presence even before he knew he liked him.

There were some places in this book that were rather cheesy, and I felt like the plot could have been drawn out a bit more. I think there were some scenes in the final showdown that skipped over some of the timeline that I wish had been included. Also, I’m not sure how these guys got anything done when all their blood was in the wrong head. I’m not a guy, so maybe I just can’t empathize, but it seemed to me they were hard pretty much the entire time, and I maybe could have done with a little less of that.

I did enjoy the inclusion of Bazooka and Luz, and I hope to see them in a future book! Loved the concept of the Loser’s Division and hope to see that continued as well. Overall I give this one 4/5 stars.

When cops go rogue, they get pushed to the Loser's division. Dominic Carson has been there a while and how good he was as a detective I was curious about what he did to get there. One thing I did know was that he had a temper and the most superficial girlfriend that I have read about in a while.
Tye Thorsen, their latest recruit was there due to him p**sing off the powers that be. I liked him straight away. Larger than life, had a way of controlling the room and had me laughing with some of comments and antics, but one thing he did have was a big heart and an obsession with Carter who was just his type.
This was a slow burn as we watch these two get closer together and when they finally made that decision their chemistry was electric. Tye was good for Dom giving him what he didn't know he needed, added to that they had a group of gruesome murders to solve showing how good they were at their job.
The secondary character gave them their found family and showed just how close they all were. With the titles revealed for the next two in the series I am excited to read them, especially if they get together with who I hope they do.

Grumpy/Sunshine

This book was hilarious & these guys … There was points when I just wanted them to kiss like the tension was 👀

Carters nickname was ‘Trigger’ and we see why this is because every time he was annoyed he would just wip his gun out 😂

Thorson was the sunshine to Carters Grump 😂 he was ALWAYS happy!

I was getting a partner whether I liked it or not, and it was a bummer. Worse than that. It was a disaster. And of all people, it had to be the cross between a surfer dude and Mount Everest.
First, he was an offense to fashion, and it was a fact. Second, he was a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The banter & one liners in this book were hilarious. I also loved how these guys came together, took Carter a little while to come to terms with himself being attracted to Thorson .. “It’s the Taye effect” but once he gave in, these guys hit it off and the spice .. was spiceing!

I really hope there are more books to come in this little world! Wouldn’t mind bazooka & Luz & Adam & Jordan 😉😉

This book was absolutely amazing I couldn't bring myself to put it down for a minute! I'm not going to lie I'm a little obsessed with Tye I love how fun, ridiculous and over the top cute he is. And Dominic! don't get me started on him hell I wanted to give the prickly big guy a hug you can tell he's been through a lot but he's a survivor that you can route for to find his happy ending. The anticipation of the ups and downs through out the entire book will keep you on you toes as it keeps you guessing. This is probably the spiciest and most intense book I've read to date! The author has a way of bringing the story to life in your mind to the point where you will need to take multiple cold showers and you probably shouldn't read it in public! Truly an amazing book that I already can't wait to read again!

Fine line between hate and love!

I seriously love the concept of the Loser Division I love so many side characters in this book!

This book is definitely a slow burn in the best way, you could see how much Carter was falling for Thorsen throughout the book and he was seriously the only one oblivious!

I loved Thorsen so much! The way he was always there for Carter and knew just what he needed when his anger would get the best of him! He also was able to stand up for himself and what he wanted which I absolutely loved!! It took Carter I while to come to terms with everything but i truly enjoyed when it finally happened!

This book was filled with a good mystery and great side characters that made this book complete!

Love me some great banter too and this had it in tons!

I can’t wait for the next in the series and to catch up with everyone!!

This was an enjoyable read. Carter and Thorsen were both dumped into the department for cops who messed up in the line of duty, but in both cases are good cops that made a mistake. Thorsen is immediately enamoured by Carter, but as far as Carter knows, he's totally straight and also in a relationship. This is a slow burn as Carter gradually becomes aware of his feelings, and meanwhile, they're under pressure to catch a serial killer.

I enjoyed the romance part of it, and the banter between Carter and Thorsen was pretty cute and funny. Their internal monologue was also pretty funny. The spice level was decent. But the detective part was a bit lackluster, and the dialogue was a bit stilted at times. There were a few grammatical errors and typos as well.

I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book is pure and unashamed entertainment! It’s over-the-top, ridiculous, funny, sweet and hot and fast-paced and has almost like a comic book-like feel to it. Based on the blurb, I actually expected something darker and more serious but this was a very welcome light read instead, funny without trying too hard. So, once it slotted into the dysfunctional superhero flick category in my mind, I didn’t mind some inconsistencies and lack of logic. I loved our heroes - both big strong clueless alpha males who get hit by feelings out of the blue as well as the motley crew of other colourful characters. This will definitely go into my rather small “to be re-read” pile and I can’t wait for the next books in the series. 5 stars!

Good start to a new series. The characters in the team were a riot and I am looking forward to some of their books. The MCs were good together although for the length of the book they didn't feel as rounded as they could have been.

I found there was some issues in the book in terms of timelines seeming to be incorrect with comments making it seem like a night had passed but implying weeks had passed and vice versa.
The story was very focused on the tension between the MCs which is fine but possibly too focussed when the blurb implies its detective story as well which was pretty thin.

I would also question mark there being no cheating in this book overall the story was good and I will read the next one.

I loved this book. Carter and Tye were two awesome guys and I have a soft spot for detective stories so this really grabbed my attention.

I’ve never read this author before so at the 30% mark a stopped to check I haven’t missed any triggers (har har - that was an accident). So glad this was an amazing MM story without any surprises.

Slow burn is my firehouse and this one was so good. The story itself, great build up and emotionally grabbing with so very hot scenes. Altogether tied this book together into an amazing read.

There’s so many intriguing characters (Jordan, Adam, Levi … Luz?) - I can’t wait to read the next one

This is book one in a series of three.

Detective Dominic Carter has been reassigned to The Losers Division, where he us partnered up with Tye Thorsen. Thorsen is a recent transfer himself after being videoed in a compromising position with the mayors daughter. Right from the beginning, Carter doesn't like Tye and sparks fly.

I really liked Carter and Tye's dynamic. Their characters played off well with each other.

I'm looking forward to the utter choas that Bazooka will have to endure in book two. He won't know what hit him.

a fun read

3.75 This is my first book by Luna and it was a great intro. I loved the characters and plot. My heart hurt a few times for Tye and I wasn’t so sure he was going to get his HEA. Dom was such a sweetie just trying to feel things after experiencing so much heartache. I thought these two were so perfect for each other. I loved how their relationship progressed. The ending was the most precious thing. The side characters were very intriguing and I can’t wait to hopefully read more about this group. All in all, I felt like this was a pretty good read.

The angst and slow burn between Tye and Dominic was so worth it when they finally got together. I loved the chemistry they shared and how they supported each other through their trauma. The spice was spicing. I loved Tye’s golden retriever but touch him and pay personality and how he broke down Dom’s walls. Dominic was so grumpy I love that he was only sweet towards Tye and the way he took care of him when he was sick. Just the bond these two shared was unmatched.

I like the push and pull but perhaps it was a bit overdone here, which frustrated me quite a bit and the reason why I am not giving it a 4*. I wanted to like Carter but he made it really difficult and I did not enjoy that it took him so long to see what's right in front of his nose. I did like Tye but sometimes the jokes were a bit OTT.
The POVs got a bit messy here and there but overall, it was not a bad book.

Absolutely IN LOVE!!!

Hoping they’ll marry me, too. OMG!!!! I loved this book!!! LOVED it!!!!! Characters, perfect. Writing, great. Plot, phenomenal. Less smut than I would have liked, especially since I’m in love with Carter and Tye, but, this was absolutely amazing!!!!! I can’t say that Dom’s awakening was believable or really the ‘norm’ …I guess it just wasn’t what I expected from a guy like him. Sooooo in love with these characters.
