My name is Jason Scott, but the few people close to me call me Jase. It is 2002. I am twenty-five, born and raised on the island of Jersey, or “the rock” as it is sometimes affectionately known. I am currently single. There is not yet a man who has broken through my defences and I’m not looking to change that. I recently got the job as an assistant to a private investigator. I thought it would be interesting, a change from the usual odd jobs. It definitely was. Then last week I saw someone die in front of me.

In November 1982, Janet Richmond disappeared. Her husband Pete was the prime suspect but with no evidence and no body, the case went cold and remained unsolved. Years later she was declared dead in absentia.

In the summer of 2002, sick and with only a few months to live, Pete Richmond hires Jase to find out what happened to Janet. He insists he was not involved and wants to clear his name once and for all before he dies.

Jase is determined to find out what happened to Janet and begins to unearth long-buried secrets, but not everyone is happy to have the past dug up, especially if someone has been getting away with murder for twenty years…
