From bestselling author Stephanie Rose comes a swoon-worthy sports romance filled with sizzling chemistry, a heart-stealing hero who falls first, and an age-gap love story worth rooting for.
Rachel Manning has her hands full working a demanding job at a PR firm and raising her teenage sister. The only time she makes for romance is in the hours she carves out writing steamy novels. Until she collides with her very own meet cute…
Silas Jones, a recently retired baseball legend turned manager, is gorgeous, divorced, and carrying around enough regret to last a lifetime. One magical night with Rachel gives her a chance to forget her responsibilities while awakening something in him that he hasn’t felt in a long time… if ever.
When fate throws a curveball and brings them together again through work, he’s ready to play for keeps. But a strict no-fraternization clause in Rachel’s contract means being with Silas isn’t just risky—it’s forbidden. And she and her sister need every penny of that paycheck.
Falling in love was never part of the plan. But for a once in a lifetime love, is it worth risking it all?
Author’s Note: A Whole New Ball Game is a steamy standalone romance with a punch-in-the-stomach meet cute, steamy times with a baseball jersey, and a cinnamon roll hero who is even better with his hands than he is with a baseball.
Stephanie Rose is a badass New Yorker, a wife, a mother, and lover of all things chocolate. Most days you'll find her trying to avoid standing on discarded LEGO or deciding which book to read next. Her debut novel, Always You, released in 2015 and since then she's written several more—some of which will never see completion—and has ideas for hundreds to come.
A Whole New Ball Game by Stephanie Rose is a stand alone, baseball romance. This is my first book of Stephanie’s and I am in love. This story contains every one of my favorite tropes, and I decided it was the perfect way to introduce myself to her work. The heroine is a romance author which sold me, as well as a swoony, professional baseball player who is all alpha but also so squishy for the woman he loves.
Rachel Manning is thirty three years old. She holds a day job working for a PR agency and in her spare time, writes romance novels under a pen name. Her books are slowly increasing in popularity but still not enough to support herself and her thirteen year old sister. Because yes, Rachel is also raising her sister, Taylor. Rachel is determined to give Taylor everything she herself never had, a stable loving home, food on the table, and the freedom to just be a teenager. Raising Taylor is her priority in life and she rarely has a moment to herself. Except for that afternoon when she experienced a meet cute right out of a romance book! It put in motion a magical night that she would never forget. With a man she was never supposed to see again. Until their paths very unexpectedly crossed once again.
Silas Jones is forty two years old. He has been a baseball player all his life. He was forced to retire just months earlier with a career ending knee injury. He is still reeling from the ending of his career when shockingly, he gets an offer he can’t refuse to be the team manager for the Brooklyn Bats, a new expansion team. It’s the night before his new position will be revealed to the public and he’s so unsure if he can even do the job when a beautiful woman literally stops him in his tracks, with her fist, accidentally of course! And so it began, a night he never wanted to end. But also a night that both of them knew HAD to end.
Neither could forget that wonderful night. And when Silas’s team hires a PR Agency to help promote the new team, their paths are once again thrown together. Silas can’t believe that he’s being given a second chance to make this woman his for good. Only one problem, her company has a very strict no-fraternization rule. One that Rachel can’t afford to break since she needs her job.
I adored both Silas and Rachel. They were so perfect for each other. Rachel needed someone in her corner and Silas was glad to be that person. Rachel’s sister, Taylor was adorable and a bit of an old soul. These two fell hard and fast while dealing with jobs, taking risks with exposure, and family issues. I loved how they built each other up and also found peace in each other. They were that missing piece neither knew they needed or even wanted. This was a wonderful, swoony book and I loved it. There was a downloadable extended epilogue that gave me a perfect look into their future that made the ending even more wonderful.
I have been thinking about what I want to say about this book-other than-you need to find the time to add this in your reading lineup sooner rather than later because this romance story has everything you want and more!
I love all the things - the hero and the heroine. Their meet-cute. Their attempts at 'being friends'. Their attempts at failing to be friends. The support they give each other as they traverse this thing called life and learn that taking a chance is worth it at any stage.
Okay let's dive into the things I really loved: I love sports romances. I am a big lover of hockey. But there is something about a professional sports player. I mean to get to that level you gotta be good-and deserve to be a bit cocky. When they get leveled by their 'one', swoons happen. However, the one thing I get a bit tired of (and I know I am in the minority) is the long scenes of play by play of the actual sport. I love to watch on TV. For romance, I am here for the love story. Why am I going on about it? Welp, this is one of those books that has the perfect balance. You get the sports, the vibe, the interaction, but the story is more in tune with navigating the celebrity, the impacts of distance that can't be avoided, and most importantly - building of the relationship.
I loved that the hurdle for our lovebirds was something that was going to happen but the flow of the storytelling and them overcoming it was perfection. Again, Silas made me swoon all over because of his genuine concern lept off the page.
Rachel is a heroine for the books. Trying to do the right thing. Be the parent she deserved to her sister. As a reader, we see this side story develop and feel so real.
What I am trying to say is: Buy or Borrow. Read this book even if you aren't a sports fan. It's a wonderful love story that will give you swoons and heart eyes as they make their HEA.
Silas and Rachel gave me all the age gap and found family feels. The connection was immediate when they first bumped into each other. The chemistry grew as the story progressed.
Rachel and her younger sister Taylor are a team and I enjoyed how protective Silas was with them and how his friendship with Taylor grew. His parents were great too and their dynamic with Rachel and Taylor was sweet. These dynamics really made the found family trope shine.
There were some terrific side characters I would like to see more of in maybe future books. I’m talking about Lee but also Rachel’s friend Auden.
A Whole New Ball Game delivered the steam but most of all for me the characters and their interactions were fabulous. I had such a good time with a lot of swooning.
Who doesn’t love a good meet cute?!! Well can you really call it a meet cute when she accidentally punches him in the stomach? Throw in workplace/forbidden romance, single mom/guardian and you’ve got a trifecta for an amazing book! And let me tell you it was unputdownable!
I love Silas and Rachel so much! Like truly obsessed from their meet-cute to ONS and then introduction (again) at work and their friendship growing to falling in love, like there really is nothing better than all of these tropes in one book!
Rachel is a romance author by night and PR writer by day, so when she has to write an article about the amazing man she had a one night stand with well it obviously brings them back together. Her sister Taylor is a huge fan of Silas on social media and so seeing them all interact was amazing!
⚾️Baseball romance 🖤Former baseball legend turned manager ⚾️Romance author with a day job 🖤Magical one night between strangers ⚾️Single mom/guardian 🖤Cinnamon roll hero ⚾️Workplace romance 🖤Secret relationship ⚾️Age gap
This was such an AMAZING story and I was beyond lucky to be able to ARC read this!
5 Stars – A heartfelt, forbidden, slow-burn romance that hit me right in the feels!
A Whole New Ball Game by Stephanie Rose is the ultimate one-night-stand romance with all the delicious tropes I love: friends to lovers, age gap, workplace tension, and a swoony, cinnamon roll hero I couldn’t get enough of.
Silas, a retired pro baseball player turned manager, and Rachel, a part-time romance writer and guardian to her younger sister, share an unforgettable night… and try to pretend that’s all it was. But with undeniable chemistry, emotional baggage, and an impossible-to-ignore connection, their story unfolds in the most beautiful way.
Silas is the blueprint for a supportive, steady, and protective partner. He’s all in—for Rachel and for her sister Taylor. And once Rachel finally allows herself to believe she can have more, their love story takes off.
Stephanie Rose gave us a romance full of longing, heart, and hope. The way these two fight their feelings and then fight for each other? Absolutely unforgettable.
Now, if you need me—I’ll be on Instagram watching baseball reels…
An age-gap sports romance featuring a retired MLB player and an indie romance author...I'm in! I loved every minute of this book, and while A Whole New Ball Game is my first read from Stephanie Rose, it certainly won't be my last!
I immediately fell for Silas. Sinfully attractive, known for having the best butt in the MLB, he is the new manager of the Brooklyn Bats, a young expansion team working to build a fan base. Silas is still mourning the end of his career from a knee injury and isn't confident that he has what it takes to be a manager, but takes the opportunity to stay close to the game that is his life.
Rachel is an indie romance author with a day job writing for a PR firm with a company policy forbidding fraternization with clients forcing Silas and Rachel to keep their relationship secret. Rachel is also the single parent of her thirteen year-old sister whom she has raised since birth. She is sweet, strong, and independent, with a determination to provide her sister the opportunities she didn't have as a child by being a presence that can be counted on. Rachel's dedication to her sister, and the revolving door example from their mother, has kept her from desiring a romantic relationship of her own. Until Silas.
These characters...swoon! Their meet cute was so adorable, leading to Silas giving Rachel the nickname Slugger which she returned by calling him Coach. Silas has all the alpha energy and wants to take care of Rachel, while acknowledging that she is fully capable of taking care of herself. And he's a romance reader! Silas is a total cinnamon roll! He and Rachel are absolutely perfect for each other.
I'm left curious about Nate, one of the players. I'd love to see him get his own story.
4.5 Stars Highly Recommend!
Thank you to the author and Hambright PR for the eARC. My review is honest and voluntary.
A Whole New Ballgame was such a fun and romantic read! I absolutely loved the meet-cute, it was charming and set the tone perfectly for the slow-burn romance that followed. The chemistry between the characters was so natural, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship unfold.
This story features some of my favorite tropes, age gap and forbidden romance and it handled both so well. He’s a retired baseball player turned team manager, and she’s an indie romance author who also works at a PR firm. Their dynamic was everything!
The Brooklyn setting added a cozy, charming backdrop that made the story feel grounded and real. Overall, this was a solid contemporary romance that hit all the right notes for me sweet, romantic, and thoroughly enjoyable.
I did not want to put this book down! I was hooked, from the meet cute on, I was rooting for Silas and Rachel. He is a retired ballplayer, and she is a PR rep by day, and romance novelist by night! After a night together, both are surprised by their feelings.
Later, a no-frat clause, they try to be friends. I will let you guess how well this works out. There is plenty of swoon worthy moments, as Silas and Rachel figure out how to handle their situation. The found family, Rachel trying to balance being there for her sister and Silas add to the appeal of the story.
I fell hard for this book, and I am still thinking about the story days later.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
"Whatever we were, if you're here, it's my name that goes on your back."
Did I laugh when she accidentally hit him in the stomach because she finished her writing goal for the day? Yeah, I did, but she was so shocked, and he didn't mind at all. These two characters, Silas and Rachel, will make you laugh and smile while reading this book. This was such a swoon-worthy book. Silas is a real gentleman, and Rachel needs someone like him. He treats her like a queen. The way they finally meet each other again after the one-night stand is phenomenal. This guy goes out and buys all her books she's written and reads them. She's a romance writer, and he is a romance reader. There was this one scene where Rachel was wearing another teammate's shirt, and Silas did not like that one bit. He went to another vendor and bought her his jersey number, and he made her wear only his name on her back. I giggled with my feet in the air. I wanted them to be together. Ugh, they must be together forever. 😩 This is what I thought whilst reading this book. Silas is such a gentleman; he makes sure she is okay and safe all the time. This steamy romance has everything you want in a book, a cinnamon roll hero, and this hero falls hard and first in love with her. And these characters have a secret relationship with an age gap. This baseball romance is a must-read.
"I don't get much time with you. I wanted those pretty eyes on me and only me."
Release date : 24 April Rating: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶/4
I loved this story! From the hilarious meet-cute to the sexy one-night-stand, then to the rediscovering and all that tension. I just loved it all. These two are so great together, but when you add in the fun with the teenager sister it adds a whole new level of fun and banter and relationship dynamics. Now I just have to wait to see if we can get a couple more stories from Stephanie Rose for some of these side characters.
I thought I had written a review for this book, but apparently I’m losing my mind! 😂
I loved this book. This was my first book by this author and it will definitely not be my last. I really enjoyed her writing style. She kept me engaged the entire time!
As a baseball fan who also loves a good romance novel, this one was definitely for me!
Silas & Rachel had a hilarious little meet-cute, that led to a wonderful “non-date first-date”… It was evident pretty quickly that these two were going to figure it out once they were reunited — and I loved every bit of it. The forbidden aspect of it, always adds to the tension IMO.
Thank you so much to Hambright PR & Stephanie Rose for the gifted copy!
I love mature romances and Stephanie always comes through! Rachel (33) is a romance author and guardian to her little sister. When she runs into Silas Jones, they have a meet cute and amazing one night together. She can’t have a relationship because she prioritizes her sister. Silas (42) is a former baseball player and now a manager.
When the two run into each other, they can’t deny their attraction but now it’s forbidden! Rachel is forbidden to date a client and as a PR company writer, she is writing about Silas.
They begin a secret romance, but their love (and spice) is strong enough for everything! The way Silas loves Rachel and her sister is so sweet! The HEA was well deserved! No miscommunication or third act break up which always makes me happy!
This is hands down my favorite book by Stephanie! Everything was perfect from their unique meet cute, to their soul deep connection. The characters were so loveable, the storyline was compelling, and the spice was excellent. Bravo!!
I immediately fell in love with Silas and Rachel. They have instant chemistry that you can feel through the pages. Silas is at a new and scary place in his life, so naturally he doesn't think he can have a relationship. Rachel is the sole guardian to her young teen sister and also thinks she can't have a relationship. These two have the best meet cute and go on to spend an incredible night together. Watching them fight so hard to not cross any lines, only to fall for one another anyways was everything!
Silas and Rachel encouraged one another in all things, showed up for each other, and loved with all they had. Rachel has done an amazing job raising her sister and watching Silas with her was so sweet. I can't recommend this book enough! If you love your romance sweet, swoony, and spicy, look no further!
“I feel that the right person makes you better. Changes you, but in a good way. I feel more like me when I’m with you than I ever have in my life.”
I adored this book so much. It gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings and the perfect happily ever after. I liked that the FMC was curvy and compared to Jessica Rabbit. I also related to the fact that she was a single mom/guardian due to unforeseen circumstances. She worked hard to provide for her sister and always put her sister’s needs above her own. And then here comes Silas, the perfect man who wants to take care of her even though she didn’t need it 🥰
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really loved this one!! First baseball romance and its a win. Silas is such a cinnamon roll with a possessive side and I loved it 😍 i zipped through it so fast
ok where are the baseball girlie's at? because your going to swoon over this book.
Rachel never thought that whats a normal meet cute like in her books would happen to her. But that all changed when she well hit him. Salis who never thought his baseball career would go this way happens to also after getting punched in the stomach meets her
you would think oh that's it right wrong they happen to have a great night parts way only to be drawn back together with thier day jobs persay
want to know how it all plays out well grab this book and ready how a writer by night and a baseball team manger find thier way to a happy ever after
Rachel Manning is writing her latest romance novel when she throws out a fist in celebration and punches Silas Jones in the stomach. Talk about a meet cute! The two end up spending an amazing evening and night together - their chemistry is off the charts! The two decide they can’t see each other again, but they’re both sad when it comes time to part ways. Fast forward a month later, and the two are surprised to meet again when the PR firm Rachel works for is hired to represent the baseball team Silas manages. The problem? Rachel’s company has a no fraternization policy.
This is such a sweet, fun read. The characters are phenomenal. The plot is great and filled with such angst. The world building is perfect. I really loved this book. Rachel’s devotion to raising her younger sister Taylor is so touching. She’s finally met someone and can enjoy something for herself even though Taylor is her number one priority. Silas is a big cinnamon roll of a male character. He’s sweet and sexy and does everything he can to help Rachel even while falling for her. This book is a standalone, but I would love for it to be a series.
I highly recommend A Whole New Ball Game. Read it and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss!
This story was so cute! Silas has a filthy mind, and Rachel takes it and turns it into her next best seller. Such an odd meet cute, for them to not be able to stop thinking about the one amazing night they spent together before having to go back to their responsibilities. Silas was stopping at nothing to make Rachel his, and Rachel wanted the same, but trying to keep it under wraps because of her job! I truly loved this story so much and loved the way it ended! 4/5 stars and 3/5 chili spices.
#AgeGap #Forbidden #OneNightStand #SingleMom #SecretRomance #Sports #Workplace I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This new full-length standalone romance is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. I am telling you now; this is one of my top reads of the year. These characters embedded into my heart where they will stay forever. I loved that life had thrown them both a lot of garbage, yet they each survived and came out stronger. They have the most adorable meet-cute ever and I was so excited to see their relationship develop. I adored their maturity in how they communicated and handled the challenges that came their way. I loved that they supported each other and made each other better. Silas was something else: and by that, I mean ALL good things. He is a flirty, filthy talker with a marshmallow heart when it comes to Rachel. Rachel is such a strong woman. My admiration for her is so deep. Her ability to set boundaries with her toxic mother and create a safe life for her little sister while still pursuing her dream was inspiring. The heat between Rachel and Silas after all the pining? Holy Moly! This book made me swoon. I couldn’t put it down. (And the door is open for additional characters to have their own books. I am 100% here for that.) Thank you to this author for my first baseball romance of the year. You keep getting better and better.
