I shouldn’t want him. I shouldn’t lie awake at night imagining how his hands would feel on my skin or how his mouth would taste against mine. But Christian Crawford has been my deepest, darkest fantasy since the moment I met him. I’ve tried to bury my feelings for my boyfriend’s father. I’ve tried to pretend that the chemistry between us was one-sided, but every time that cowboy looks at me like I’m already his, I forget who I’m supposed to be loyal to. He’s the one man I should never touch, and I’ve never wanted anything more.
She’s the one line I should never even think about crossing. She’s too young, too wrapped in every kind of wrong. And my son’s girlfriend. But Piper got under my skin the second she stepped into my world. Sweet, stubborn Piper, who's all fire, and a temptation I never saw coming. I told myself it was nothing more than a passing thought. But there’s nothing passing about the way I watch her. There’s nothing innocent about the way I want her. I know it’s wrong. I know touching her would destroy everything. But somewhere between the guilt and the longing, I started falling for her. And now that I have… I don’t know how to stop.
4.5 stars: burn down the world for her? yes please
May women find this type of love 🫶. We all deserve it ❤️❤️❤️.
Also… if you’re a fan of the heroine being with the daddy after a horrible relationship, then this book if for you 😉😮💨.
Piper (early 20s?) grew up in an abusive household (alcoholic mother and absent father) and was raised primarily by her older sister Violet. Months ago, she moved to be closer to her sister and works as a bartender at the Velvet Stag, owned by Callan Crawford, younger to Christian (late 30s?)…
Also known as ZADDY 🥵🫦🫦🫦🫦💦💦💦💦
Christian’s a single father to his annoying, immature, nasty AF son Travis 😒. River sees the way Christian and Piper and decides he’s gonna ruin things for his dad by dating her before him 😒.
Because Christian is a good person, he doesn’t pursue anything with Piper. Travis doesn’t care to be close to his dad because of the way his mom and her family have poisoned him against him.
When Travis convince Piper to go with him to spend two weeks on his family’s farm, owned by his dad, she agrees. Christian wants Travis to take over the family business, but Travis shows little interest in everything related to it (except for the money 🙄).
What no one can count on is how intense the chemistry is between Piper and Christian 👀
And being in close proximity?
Ufff… there’s only so much they can resist 🤣
What I liked/loved: POSSIBLE SPOILERS — the tension 👀. Although they’re both respectful of Piper and Travis’s relationship, you can’t ignore chemistry (just like chemists 🤣).
— the 🔥. We see some solo action early in the book, but before the 50% mark, they kiss and soon after it’s full 🔥. Christian doesn’t mind getting his hands and face dirty 🥵. Anything to make sure he does right by Piper 😉💦
— the way Christian is mesmerized by his 💦 being in or around makes it all even juicier 🫠
— dirty talk? YESSS DADDY 🫦🔥
— JPPPP 😈 and MINEMINEMINE 😉. Everybody needs to know that Piper is his 💁🏻♀️
— OMD 😉. I love it when a daddy steals from his son (when they’re as terrible and as spoiled/conceited as Travis, THEN YOU BET IT’S WELL DESERVED👏🏻💁🏻♀️)
— the “FEEL THAT? That’s what you were gonna walk away from “ scene 😮💨😮💨😮💨🫠🫠🫠🔥🔥🔥
— Christian needing a connection just as much as Piper 🫶. It’s not always women that need this; real men needed as well ❤️ and Christian makes sure that Piper knows this
— you smack me? Or then I’ll break your nose 👏🏻🤷🏻♀️💁🏻♀️.
— how protective he is 🫶🫶🫶. Christian will burn the world down for her 😭
— their connection ❤️🥹. I love it when a man is willing to be vulnerable; it only makes their bond even stronger
— thissss right here: “What I feel for you is the kind of thing that makes men burn their whole world down just to taste it twice.”
— the epilogue 🥹❤️🫶🥹❤️🫶😭😭
What I didn’t like: SPOILERS — Travis 🤬. Besides the fact that he slaps Piper, the way he feels entitled is gross 🥴. And his mom’s family? They make it worse 🥴
— i’m aware that there’s books for the brothers, so maybe I’ll get more of Piper and Christian in those books
— I wouldn’t have minded if Christian had disciplined Travis more 🤣🤣🤣
— I hope his ex has the day she deserves 🤬
Overall, I loved it 🫶

this book had all the ingredients for a deliciously messy, forbidden romance… but it ended up tasting kinda bland.
Here’s the setup: Piper moves to Rosewood Falls and develops a massive crush on Christian, an older, hot cowboy who works at his brother's bar. But thinking he’s not interested, she starts dating his son, Travis, instead. Big mistake. Travis is a total loser… rude, disrespectful and pretty unbearable from the first date.
So when she and Travis finally break up, she almost immediately jumps into a relationship with Christian, the dad she’s been pining for all along. And Christian? He cuts off his own son for her. Sounds dramatic, right? It should’ve been!!
But here’s the letdown: there was barely any angst or tension. The story felt predictable and emotionally flat. For a premise this loaded, crushing on the dad, dating the son, then switching teams. I expected more push-and-pull, more guilt, more something. Instead, it all unfolded a little too smoothly.
Christian and Piper were likeable enough, but their connection lacked spark. Even the spicy scenes, while plentiful, started to feel repetitive and lost their impact. And Travis? He was so over-the-top awful it felt cartoonish, more a plot device than a real person.

HOT DADDY COWBOY!! Ex boyfriend’s dad…. As soon as he said ‘fuck it’ I was🧎🏾♀️
I absolutely devoured this book it was so good. What a power couple! I was so worried there was going to be a miscommunication trope thrown in the middle but they’re too good for that shit 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
It’s official! I’ve entered my cowboy romance era and it’s all thanks to Lea Rose!!
I am a sucker for age gap, especially of the ex’s father variety, so I was already sold on this. When I heard it was going t0 pop my western romance cherry, I was extra intrigued, and Lea did not let me down!!
What I loved about the book: 1. Duh, age gap!! Bonus points for ex’s father and curvy FMC.
2. I loved how hard of a worker Piper was. She came from a really rough background and could have ended up in a really bad position in life. But thanks to her wonderful (and hilarious) sister Violet and her determination and grit, Piper was a wonderful worker not just for Callan at the bar, but during her “time off” helping Christian at the tree farm. I love in age gap romances where the younger FMC is a super capable woman who knows how to handle her own life and doesn’t need the MMC to save her. It definitely helps with not creating a power imbalance and really makes you not even realize there is an age difference based on their personalities and overall places in life (especially when the FMC is forced to grow up early, like Piper and Violet were).
3. Daddy Christian!!! Always trying to be a gentleman and do the right thing, but it was so devastating that he never opened up and let anyone take care of him. I loved that he found Piper who was so willing to do anything and everything to give him the love he so deserved and needed but wouldn’t ask for, and how he had her back every step of the way as well. He was a man who took control of his life and stepped up in every aspect that he needed to, which is incredibly hot. I loved how he fell so hard for her first, and definitely before his son came into the picture, but he stood down letting her go…until he didn’t!!!
4. I really love the small town of Rosewood Falls that these sisters moved to!! I love that it’s full of hot cowboys and fierce women who can keep them in their places. I seriously can’t wait to see more couple of Rosewood Falls!
5. Speaking of, I’m going to need Violet’s and Callan’s story ASAP!!!! These two are fire in the best ways possible, always fighting and creating that incredible tension that you know is going to blaze strong, especially in the bedroom 😉 On the sweeter side, I can’t wait for Colton and Savannah!!
6. The book was incredibly funny. It was not a romcom, don’t get me wrong, but the inner monologues of Piper were downright hilarious and had me laughing loudly at several points. Her sarcasm and quick wit definitely endeared her to me early.
7. The spice was ample and fantastic!! There was so much juicy tension throughout the book that when the f*ck it moment came, it was so delicious and they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other (yay for us readers!)
8. Lastly, I loved that we got to see plenty of Travis, her boyfriend and then ex / Christian’s son. We didn’t just get to hear a one-sided story of events about his terribleness, we got to witness it countless times and we got to see him make the decision very easy for Christian to decide Piper over him. Typically, we like to see the father not choosing anything over the son, but Travis made everything so bad that it would have pissed me off if this book went that direction, so I was glad it didn’t 🤣 Christian definitely struggled with letting him go, but the right call was made.
Thank you to Lea Rose for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
oh this absolutely hit the spot, it had literally everything i love in a romance?! cowboy, age gap, ex boyfriends dad ?! he falls first and oh boy he falls hard, it’s sinful how good this was. Sprinkled with tender moments of love and the building of found family, this series is going to be so so good i can feel it !!
Safety note- FMC moves into town, gets crush on MMC, but because she thinks he’s uninterested in her, she’s starts dating his son - they’re intimate. It continues for the first half of the book.
I was vibing for most of the book but then 50% in they got together and i started to loose interest but kept going. His son was a horrible person and i get christian tried to have a relationship with him but there was no way to repair that.
Piper was an interesting character but the girl needed to stand her ground a lot sooner than she did because her bf did nothing to have her stick around that long.
Now…… a little bit of a spoiler and why this is not rated higher for me.
He proposed to her at someone else’s party and i just dont vibe with that😭😭😭 idk idk idk its a personal problem for me when someone steals thunder.
I’m a sucker for cowboys and age gap, throw in ex boyfriends dad I was sold! This book absolutely hit the spot and I loved every second of it! It had everything I love in a romance, taboo, cowboy, age gap, ex boyfriend’s dad, he falls first and boy he falls hard. When the f*** it moment happened I was 🫠 Cowboy daddy Christian was perfection!
It had tender moments of love and building of found family that I absolutely adored! This series is going to be so good! I can’t wait for Violet and Callen’s story! The tension and banter and fighting it’s going to be so good!
I described this to my friend as “it’s an ex-boyfriend’s dad trope… and he runs a Christmas tree farm…” after she stopped laughing I added, “he’s also a cowboy with a filthy mouth.” She said, “sure, toss in everything.”
But you know what? IT WORKS.
This is the x-rated hallmark version and I was here for it.
Plus the writing was poetic and simply put, lovely.
Where We Burn by @authorlearose Book 1 in Rosewood Falls series Available 08.14.2025 5/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️
I can hardly find the words to describe how much I loved this book, but here goes...
Where We Burn is a beautifully written take on the timeless trope: wanting what you can’t, or maybe shouldn’t have is more like it! It’s forbidden, it’s angsty, it’s filled with mutual pining, and from the very first page, it grabs you and doesn’t let go. Seriously BOTH times I read it I couldn’t put it down!
Rosewood Falls completely stole my heart, but it was Christian Crawford who had me absolutely swooning like a hopeless romantic. I was feral for this dirty-talking, no-nonsense cowboy with a heart of gold, the kind of man who always puts others first... until the moment he finally decides he’s worthy of happiness too. That moment? PERFECTION.
Then there’s Piper. She’s fiery, fierce, and determined. With her sister at her side, she goes after what she wants, and their unbreakable bond (shaped by a difficult past) tugged hard on my heartstrings and I loved their dynamic.
And as for Travis? All I’ll say is: F that punk. Seriously.
I’ve been OBSESSED with this book for months. I love everything about it and cannot wait to dive into Colt and Callan’s stories, seriously these Crawford men are swoon worthy!
So if you’re into scorching tension, heartfelt emotion, and cowboys who know how to talk dirty and love hard, Where We Burn needs to be at the top of your TBR. Run, don’t walk.
Thank you author Lea Rose for the arc. I can’t wait to see what else this series has in store for us!
Huge thank you to Lea Rose for having me be apart of your ARC team! This was an easy 5 star read for me and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did 🤍
This was my first Lea Rose book and it certainly will not be my last! Lea wrote an engaging and fast paced storyline that had me hooked from the first page! I was a woman possessed reading this and I could not put this down.
Leah wrote really great characters! To start, Christian was… daddy. He was just daddy. I don’t know what else to tell you besides the fact that he was daddy. Like big daddy energy. I said what I said 🤷🏼♀️. He was swoon worthy, protective and thoughtful.
Next up was our girl Piper! Piper was everything I love to see in a FMC! Feisty, strong, independent with a good head on her shoulders… add in the fact that she is not a stick figure and is confident in her own skin… I love her. I have no notes.
Christian and Piper’s story was so good. Their chemistry was off the charts. Their dynamic was really well written. Like they both book such good care of one another while working to obtain their happy ending. Their storyline felt unique and I did not expect it to pan out the way it did but I loved it!
Lea also did a great job writing great side characters. I loved every single side character (for the most part cough cough I hope Travis gets glass in the windpipe) and their role in the story. Especially Callan!! This book was the perfect build up for Violet and Callan’s book!… which I am literally foaming at the mouth for. I need it so badly!! Their banter was absolutely killing me!! Overall, this book felt like a great introduction to all the key players of the future books and I can’t wait to see what Lea has in store for this series!!
Would I suggest this to a friend? Yeah. Would I reread? Yeah! Will I continue with the series? Hell yeah!! Do I need a trophy? Oh certainly… don’t tell David 😂😂
⚠️ Here are my unhinged reading notes! Please proceed with caution as there may be minor spoilers ahead! ⚠️
Travis just screams little bitch boy behavior 🤷🏼♀️ Omg the way Travis just handled entering the bar with Violet had my blood boiling. I hope he acquires glass in the windpipe. Christian’s first chapter?? 🫠🫠 I’m locked tf in. I would like to formally punch Travis in the fckn teeth. “Read to me, darling.” I am going to need physical help to get my jaw up off the floor. I want to slap Travis seven ways to Sunday or whatever. Is it wrong that I’m over here all like, “don’t even bother breaking up with Travis… just cheat on him with his hot as sin father,” or like are you thinking that too? No? Okay, weird but okay. I will gladly stab Travis. And I will twist and twist and twist and twist. @ 43% I think my jaw just completely UNHINGED. Chapter 15 says it’s Christian’s chapter but it’s Piper’s and it took me seriously too long to figure that out. Where is my brain cell?? Daddy? Sorry. Daddy? Sorry. Daddy? Sorry. @ 63% that was dirty. The church ain’t gonna want me within a five mile radius on Sundays. This feels like a punch in the gut. Travis is the fucking worst. Ohh I see where we get our title from and I like it 😇 @ 75% I need to be baptized. Again. Idk. Maybe at this point an exorcist would just be better. Lea, it’s me. How about a Callan and Violet book? I want to hear him call her Lettie… while she claws his eyes out with the fury of a thousand winds! Thanks girlypop! I know you got me!! Daddy? Sorry. Daddy? Sorry. Daddy? Let’s be honest I’m not fckn sorry. The mans is hot. Dude, Travis needs to be beaten seven ways to Sunday even at the age of 15 💀 Travis really needs a good hammer to the temple. Please note that I do not condone violence… often. Violet, I got a thing for man buns too… have you seen my husband?? And I’m crying. At 97% I’m crying. I came this far and I am CRYING. GAAAAH IM DONE???!? I’m done?? I don’t want to be done!! Lea… where’s book two?? Where is book two??
i’m sorry but this was actual perfection. alltså. mannen, ge mig en daddy cowboy. like genuinely. sir. give me a daddy cowboy and my entire personality would change overnight. maten hade varit LAGAD, disken hade varit DISKAD, huset hade varit städat hade till och med putsat fkn fönstren, och varje dag hade jag varit på mina knän LIKA A GOOD FUCKING GIRL. I’d be out there cleaning gutters, fixing fences, polishing windows that do not need polishing. I would become the most productive member of society overnight. 🫡
och LYSSNA. give me a man like this and suddenly all my opinions disappear into the void. all my ambitions? gone. my independent spirit? taking a little vacation. because this man could probably ask me to help bury a body and my first question would be "do you need a shovel?" 🤠
and before anyone says anything: yes, I hear myself. no, I will not be taking feedback at this time.
give me an older cowboy. give me the competence. the protectiveness. the quiet confidence. the terrifying capability. the "I can fix literally any problem with my bare hands" energy. DADDYYYYYY I AM BEGGING. 😭
and the worst part is that I can't even pretend I'm joking. this man had me completely gone. absolutely finished. every time he appeared on page I was just nodding along like "yes sir, whatever you say sir." 💆🏼♀️
otrolig. otrolig. wow.
fuck feminism, respectfully. for this specific fictional cowboy I would happily frolic directly back into the nineteenth century. 🤫💅🏼✨🤠😭🫡
Wow! This book consumed me in a way that you guys don't understand! I could stop reading!
Christian Crawford is the daddies of all daddies, he is just superior! He will make you swoon, steal your heart, and make you sweat! This man is everything and more!
Piper is just as amazing, she is strong, independent, sexy, and knows what she wants. I loved her!
Christian and Piper were dynamite together. Their chemistry was explosive, steamy, and perfect! They were made for each other. The road for their HEA wasn't easy, but it was real, relatable, and beautiful.
This book has me in a chokehold, I am obsessed with Christian & Piper! The plot, the characters, the side characters and the spice were so well written that it left me wanting more! I can not wait for the next book, this series is going to be phenomenal! ♥️
This was my first Lea Rose book and it definitely won’t be the last. Where We Burn is a ex-boyfriend’s dad, age gap, cowboy romance brought the heat at every turn and I loved every minute of it!
Christian and Piper bring electric chemistry, emotional connection, tons of yearning and stolen glances throughout the book. After a disastrous relationship with Christian’s son, Travis, Piper finds herself growing even closer to Christian. When they can finally act on their mutual attraction is when the heat in this story reaches a scorching level. And it’s not just about the spice! We get to see the emotional and vulnerable part of their multifaceted story. I really enjoyed visiting Rosewood Falls and I hope we’ll see more of their residents soon.
If you enjoy forbidden age gap romance, this one is a must read!
I would love to thank Lea Rose for the opportunity to read and review Where We Burn.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Such a fast and very spicy romance between Christian and Piper. Interesting start with Travis in the mix and his POS attitude. If you want solid banter and smut with a good storyline.. this is for you.
The way I devoured this book should actually be criminal. Firstly, I am an absolute sucker for a cowboy romance. There is just something about a guy that is built from working hard on the ranch, riding horses and being sweaty all day that just does it for me. Then add on the fact that there is a considerable age gap between our main characters and I was already excited to dive right in. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the ex-boyfriend's dad trope was also in here which is yet another one of my absolute favourite things to read about may I just add. This right here became the ultimate tripple threat and had me devouring this in one sitting.
Our girl Piper has a special place in my heart. She has lived a rough life, she was forced to grow up earlier than she should have and when her older sister relocated, she was determined to work harder so that she could get away from her less than stellar upbringing and living situation. Her sister Violet was determined to have her sister move out to the small town she lives in and even managed to secure her a job at the local bar. This leads Piper to meeting Daddy Christian who she does have a little crush on even though he is nearly twice her age. When things don't turn out the way I was wishing they would in the beginning she starts dating his charming son who is much closer in age. I definitely felt like she was settling for less than she deserved especially because I wanted to break this boy's nose every time he opened his stupid mouth. Let's just say he learnt some life lessons the hard way and he was sent packing particularly when his father found out about the stupid shit he was doing.
This then brings me to daddy Christian. He is always a gentleman who goes out of his way to help his community even when he is flat out running his own ranch and Christmas tree farm. He does spend a lot of his free time at the very same bar Piper works at and as much as he would like to pursue more with her his morals always had him hoping she would settle down with a nice guy closer to her age. It was a bit of a gut punch when he learnt that his estranged son swooped in and stole the attention of the only girl, he considered special in his life. As much as Christian tried to forget about his attraction to Piper he never could quite let it go. When his idiot son does some things that he should be absolutely be ashamed of, Christian steps in and shows her how a real man should treat his woman.
The chemistry between these two was absolutely electric. I know it's a bit taboo to enter a relationship with your ex's dad but he truly was the upgrade and I had exactly zero complaints about this. Christian hypes up Piper especially because she has issues with her image du to being a curvier girl. In return Piper hypes up Christian and shows him that he is worthy of love and opening up to let someone care for him in a way that he has never had before. The quiet moments between these two, the way they perfectly fit together and of course the delicious spice made this a pretty binge worthy read for me. I definitely hope that Piper's sister gets her own book because she was definitely a favourite side character of mine particularly with the colourful way she cursed out Piper's pretty boy ex.
If you need something fun, easy and a little bit sinful to read I would definitely recommend picking up this book.
Quickie Review: This book just revived and restarted my reading life. Life be lifing lately and I haven’t had any interest in reading. Until this book. All when Mr. Christian Crawford walked into my life. I love a fantastic cowboy/mountain man/age gap romance and this one was all that and more. So. Much. More. And just an all around amazing read with equally amazing romance. Very spicy, taboo, amazing romance. I need more from this series and I need it now. 5 Stars.
Was so excited for this one with all the hype around a small-town cowboy romance, but it just didn’t do it for me. The book starts off heavy with talk of childhood abuse, then drops it completely and never circles back??? From there, it just felt like nothing was happening — no real plot, just a lot of inner thoughts about this “forbidden love.”
The romance itself didn’t make sense either. She’s dating the son, catching feelings for the dad, complaining about the son the whole time, then ends up with the dad. It was annoying, plotless, and hard to get through even though it’s only around 270 pages.
So glad it’s over with… I think I can confidently say I’m good on these type of forbidden love stories 🙃
I DNFed this hoe. I just don’t feel like reading it no more. But it was interesting.
I really hated Travis piper’s ex-boyfriend. If I was her, I would’ve dumped his ass months ago, but she was stringing him along. He called her fat on multiple occasions and when they broke up he slapped her. How is he related to Mr. cowboy, don’t ask me because I don’t know??
Mr. cowboy,,he was nice and he was a gentleman that’s all I gotta say.
They will end up together. That’s why I don’t need to read the next 40%.
There could have been be more written detail for the tension. I think I’ve just read too much Lucia Franco, that makes me see what some authors are missing in their writing.
She works at his brother’s bar and has always had a huge crush on him. She thinks he left with someone else and assumes he isn’t interested, so she starts dating his son instead. The son turns out to be a total loser, and she can’t stop thinking about the dad she’s always wanted. After she and the son break up, she starts hooking up with the dad almost immediately. They end up together, and the dad cuts off contact with his son.
The story had so much potential — the setup was perfect for a steamy, forbidden, emotionally intense romance — but it ended up feeling flat. There was no real angst, no tension, and the plot was predictable from start to finish.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The first half of the book was better than the second half. All the tension that was built up just kind of fizzled out for me. I never felt like I knew the characters as well as I would have liked… I had the worst time trying to picture the MMC because he felt like he was described as 40 year old giant cowboy and that was about it. The first half was good so I’ll keep it at a solid 3 stars.
This book was amazing and it had all the feels. Age Gap coqbiy romance novel. Piper is with Travis but it is his father that she really wants. As you can imagine it gets messy. The whole situation is handled with care and it really ends up being a great romance read.
