In a divided America, the deadliest weapon isn't a gun or a bomb but an algorithm.
Stone by stone, former military operative Frank Kane rebuilds a lighthouse on Maine's savage coast. A worn-out relic trying to bury a violent past. Then his former handler appears at his door, eyes cold with purpose. One last mission. Save America from itself. No choice just duty.
Behind the glass walls of Helix, one of Washington's elite think tanks, lurks Fulcrum—an AI system designed to predict civil unrest. But Mitchel Reed, a brilliant and ruthless former intelligence developer, has secretly weaponized Fulcrum to not just predict societal fractures, but to engineer them. Where Frank sought escape from violence, Reed embraces its potential.
Reed's vision is to crush America's enemies without ever firing a shot. Victory without war. In his calculated mind, American civil discord is merely collateral damage—a necessary demonstration of Fulcrum's power before deploying it against foreign adversaries. A small price to pay for ending all future wars.
As Frank infiltrates Helix, he navigates a labyrinth of corporate security and lethal AI safeguards. Each step brings him closer to Fulcrum's core systems—and to Reed. But as Reed activates Fulcrum's most aggressive protocols, violence erupts like wildfire across the nation within days. Neighbors turn against neighbors. Riots consume city centers as the country spirals toward chaos.
To stop Reed before it’s too late, Frank faces an impossible remain the broken man hiding from his past or become the weapon America desperately needs. Where Reed would sacrifice American lives for his vision of peace, Frank must sacrifice his hard-won peace to save American lives.
America's greatest threat isn't the enemy outside its borders, but the chaos engineered within.
I am a Hollywood screenwriter turned novelist. I am also a nomad.
Four years ago, I sold or gave away just about everything I owned and set myself adrift in the world. I lived out of my backpack and circumnavigated the earth three times. My journey has changed me and I am strangely unafraid. I have no plans to end my quest to see far corners of our planet. I figure life will take care of itself.
It has been a wild ride. I search for great stories and characters as I travel, many of which end up in my novels. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
Powerful cautionary tale of what may occur if we use AI recklessly. Once again Frank is able to stop man's thirst for power and control. Really good story and the concept behind it is quite frankly terrifying.
