Déjà vu of the Total Eclipse of the Heart

Rate this book
In this sweeping romantic historical fiction novel, love, loss, and fate intertwine across four pivotal historical events—Pompeii at the time of the Vesuvius eruption, the Viking attack at Lindisfarne, the Port Royal earthquake, and the January 6th Capitol breach in Washington, D.C. Each timeline follows two soulmates reincarnated across centuries, struggling to reunite amidst the chaos of world-shattering events.

In Pompeii, a battle-hardened Roman soldier, Marcellus, and the resilient and adaptable enslaved prostitute, Claudia, are caught in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, their love enduring even as ash and fire consume their world. Centuries later, in Lindisfarne, a monk-turned-warrior, Hildwulf, and a compassionate healer, Bricthled, fight for survival during a brutal Viking raid, drawn together by an inexplicable bond.

In Port Royal, the "Wickedest City in the World," a reformed pirate, William Cowper, and a wealthy debutante, Elizabeth Hargrove, navigate love, betrayal, and the devastating earthquake that devastates the city. Finally, in modern-day Washington, D.C., introspective author Doug Matterson grapples with love, loss, self-doubt, and the January 6th Insurrection while uncovering the echoes of past lives.

As history repeats in tragedy and triumph, the novel explores the timeless power of love and the soul’s unbreakable yearning to find its counterpart across lifetimes.
This novel blends historical fiction, romance, and supernatural elements.

What a voyage! It starts in two of my favorite places: Massada and Pompéi. The stories, yes with an "s", are full of twists and turns. Enjoyable reading. Well written by someone who does it's research.
