The Scarlet Eye

Rate this book
In the explosive final book of The Warehouse District Series, the Scarlet Resistance takes its boldest step yet, confronting the state with fire, strategy, and an unwavering demand to be seen.

With their network growing and the world watching, Oakland, Christine, and the rest of the resistance must push past survival and step into true leadership. From hidden bunkers to viral broadcasts, their message is clear. They will not be erased.

As the movement gains traction, the cost of rebellion climbs higher. Loyalties fracture, grief hardens, and love is tested in the crucible of revolution. The resistance gains unexpected momentum thanks to a surprising new adversary, one whose ambition may end up serving their cause more than the state’s.

The Scarlet Eye is more than a symbol. It is a reckoning.

Because when the state comes for your voice, your story, your right to exist, you do not run.

You rise.

Unfortunately for me this last book of the series was a disappointment. I started questioning a bit during the second one, but this one actually made me lower the rating of the first book.

There was a lot of extra explanation in some parts of the book, while there was zero explanation in other parts. I noticed a few errors throughout that were missed.

It felt like this book was wrote mainly for the sex scenes, because that’s what I read the most instead of the actual storyline.

Things were just…. extreme. It got to the point where it felt too unreal. This is set to be a dystopian novel, with lots of fighting, shooting, and not ONE of the 8 main characters were killed although multiple ones were on the brink of death. I’m not saying any needed to, but the way it was set up, at least one shouldn’t have survived their wounds.

I was just disappointed overall, I was hoping for a better final book, but I think all three of the books could have been put into only two with a bit more focus into the storyline, even the characters didn’t stick after awhile.

The characters even ended up falling flat, they were wrote to be a certain way but then it didn’t stay that way?

I don’t regret reading the series but I wish that there had been more focus to the story itself because the idea is amazing.

Read as an ARC and I’m still thinking about it. Book three focuses more on Selene and Eden’s … situationship? , which gets intense in all the best ways, but we still get great moments from Oakland and Christine, plus my chaotic faves Spencer and Silver.

The pacing is fast, the spice is turned up a bit, and somehow it balances gut-punch moments with real warmth. Also, Gruit? Absolute icon. Best fictional dog I’ve read in maybe ever. This was such a strong ending to a bold, queer trilogy.

2.5 stars. I just can't get past the fact that all the characters are basically the same, and the final couple in this just makes no sense at all.

This trilogy really delivered. The world feels real, the characters are messy in a good way, and by the time you get to the last book, it’s clear how much they’ve all grown. The final one goes harder than the others for sure. It’s more intense, a little darker, and definitely spicier too. But it still keeps that heart the whole way through.

If you’re into queer stories with something to say, solid pacing, and characters that stick with you, this is one to check out. I can’t wait to see what this author does next.

I give two stars based on the characters and world building, which are the only reasons I continued to hate-read this series.

I don't make this accusation lightly, but I heavily suspect the use of AI based on the extreme overuse of certain patterns, for example "it's not x, it's y" (that's the biggest example I could think of - sometimes it happened 3-4 times within half a page).

I don't mind a little spice but it got in the way of the story, in my opinion, and didn't make sense most of the time. And like someone else said in another review of the series, why is everyone always smirking?

I am a huge supporter and consumer of Sapphic literature, but this was a HARD read.

okay wow. This was a RIDE.. the spice scenes?? phenomenal. I legit had to stop a couple times just to breathe lol. the ending felt earned and I really loved how it all came together.

all 6 MCs had amazing journeys but I gotta say I have the biggest soft spot for Eden and Selene because… wow. like their whole deal was intense and messy and perfect.

I do kinda wish the last two books had audiobooks because I loved the narrator experience so much, but it was still a great ride just reading. things are still a little open ended too, but maybe that means we get more?? fingers crossed.

SO good. The story was so interesting, it didn’t even feel like 400+ pages. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in less than a day. I loved all the character arcs throughout the series, especially Selene’s. This final book in the trilogy was probably my favorite, but they were all great. I would definitely reread them in the future. And someone needs to make this into a tv series asap!

!!!!!!

I NEED THIS TO CONTINUE!!! Amazing writing, epic storyline and strong characters. It cannot end like this though, there has to be more. I almost walked around with a red contact for Halloween.

Enjoyed the trilogy. For a 2015 written story I was drawn to the parallels to today’s politics relevant to the LGBTQ community. I would like a follow-up. I recommended to friends, both straight and gay.

This was a mostly satisfying finale and there’s significantly more spice versus book 1. It wasnt an issue for me because I love spice and the payoffs for the main characters and couples felt so well earned after all the build up, and it was really fun to finally see those moments play out. I also really loved Christine’s dog and the role he plays. Especially when he takes a liking to Selene, which just goes to show what good boys know haha. At the same time, I can’t help but feel like there’s still more to the story, which honestly just makes me wish I had another book to dive into right away.
