Taj, the New Empire's haunted soul trapped in energy form, finally has hope. Song's Crystal device might be on Planet Three, holding his husband's consciousness. But Song wasn't just Taj's soulmate. He was a famous army Commander and a weapon inventor whose creations are still not surpassed. Song's Crystal itself contains enough power to be weaponized.
Planet Three has been sealed for years until a young scientist named Tian does the impossible: he opens the Gate. Everyone begins hunting for Song's Crystal, so Taj must reach the device first.
But how can Taj do it without destroying the entire planet? And will Song remember him after a century locked in darkness?
SVL YISANLIU writes and illustrates MM romance fantasy (no AI art). ◊ Complete series: The Taj and Song Trilogy. Chaotic queer characters navigating love and energy politics in a climate-disrupted world. ◊ Coming soon: The First Crystaler. Set in the same world years earlier, right when the energies were discovered. Three men, a desperate invention, a dangerous obsession, and a love that escaped control.
After 200 years, Taj and Song's story concludes. We GET to see them together again! The pacing is tighter compared to Books 1-2's slow burn. Tian opening the Gate happens fast, the hunt for Song's Crystal escalates quickly, and then suddenly we're at the climax. The weapon designs subplot (Song's inventions being sought after) created good tension. Tian's story here shined, in my opinion. That said, the emotional payoff worked. Song grappling with who he is after a century as a trapped consciousness and Taj finally getting what he wanted but realizing it's complicated. That's the good stuff. The happy ending feels earned. Multiple POVs (Taj, Song, Tian, Avery, Risa). MM romance payoff. Author's art throughout. Book 3 is my favorite.
